I want to thank all the haters of this show.... when I heard the drama surrounding the acolyte I immediately went and updated my Disney + account and now this has become, by far, my favorite Star Wars project. I have a lot of opinions on why people dislike it so passionately, but that post would be tltr.
Spot on. In 5, 10, 20 years The Acolyte will surely have experienced "The Phantom Menace-effect." Same with the Sequels or insert whatever other divisive Star Wars thing here. As we re-watch and re-analyze, the hot takes will cool and we'll laugh and laugh.
You know the feeling when you're sitting in between the chairs...I hate this show with a passion, I think it is one of the worst things I've watched in years. Meanwhile whenever I try to watch the hatewatching channels it is such blind and mindnumbing hatred towards so many irrelevant things that I find myself actually defending the show more than anything else, even when I genuienly despise this kind of filmmaking as is shown here. And I do gotta agree, there where some nice camerashots in this episode for once, overall the series is a bit more dynamic in its filming repertoire than other star wars tv shows so far. Characters moving outside the frame or different depth focus. In episode 5 they made good use of the musical theme actually putting the power of recognition of this IP to use... That being said, the meat of the bone as well as the rest of the cow or elephant or whatever spacealien merch we are talking about...I know I won't be able to stay sane participating in a positive discussion about the dialogue in the show...the thing that I care the most about: the writing. To me...I do not know how many ways I would have had to dissect baddie evil Gimpman...but his head would have gotten removed at least 7 times during his speeches. And I can not understand what exactly convinced you that it was good dialogue, I know we wouldn't agree on what makes sense or not. But this show is divisive...and that is within the theme of the show itself, it is about how we view good and evil. So for me it is in recognizing that he does seem to have a point that can be convincing and thusly I have to be fair...I gotta ride out the vision of the showmakers, if it does make sense to someone that this happened, well would or will it make sense what follows from it? And that is hard for me because it is mental agony to go with it....which is the other side of the coin, right? Since barels any of the decisions of the different characters worked on me so far, Osha flipflopping to the dark side because the dude dropped his pants is just the height of the insult for me. And going from there it is...difficult to find any good in it going forward either, which is also a point of view I would like to be understood from. To me it seems like childplay "Am I good today or am I bad today?" is a coinflip decision for...well for Mae it always was, but now the other one is doing it too. The only thing that they reflect each other in to me is how both of them have no moral codex. And that is sad, because I seriously do not find any perspective going forward with this show if stuff hasn't made sense after 6 out of 8 episodes and at least to my credit, I do not think it is for a lack of listening to explanations from the other side in my case or lack of will since I literally defend the show on channels when treated unfairly, nor do I think myself not capable enough of understanding. For me it feels like the opposite, the more I try to ignore the bad things, the more they come back with a vengeance. Because this is a discussion we are having about the show, publically, openly...is it a product that can still be watched without identity politics or cultural commentary or whatever real life stuff interfering with the pure artform of filmmaking and just geeking out about otherworldly fantasy lore, or is it too engrained in its complexity already. And here I do have to say, for me it is hard to ignore when the show specifically sets out to rewrite parts of the lore, at least in its interpretation of the light and the dark side, seeming suddenly very reflective of real life discussions about good and evil. Having characters like the twins, in my eyes then, flipflopping around on a whim with a moral codex so weak it might as well deactivate like a lightsabers blade hitting a weird metal making one question how one of the biggest threats to jedi would take anyone by surprise or what they did in terms of evolution in the last few thousand years...well, that's a nothing topic, I don't like that part of the lore. But characters going "well actually being evil is not really bad actually" gives me the same vibe as people having weird fantasies about real life criminals and their sense of justice getting bent over "well this is a convenient exception...and also they're hot"...if that stuff stays in lore like with Dracula and vampire myth, by all means, we can draw back conclusions and ideologies into real life and it be problematic enough while the lore and love for vampires can coexist peacefully for itself there. But this show setting out to show that "maybe morality is just a point of view", present me with something real good and conclusive, because a "drop yo panties and that's all the stuff you needed to say" is gonna make me...feel icky. Not about the nudity, I'm european, go full frontal with the camera on that, but my god did none of his "seductive words" work on me, other than make me feel angry because I'm having a feeling like as if someone is trying to say something that is supposed to teach me a life lesson and my alarm clocks going off that none of this should be depicted like it would be working for even a second because...I mean lets make it clearly understood, we can discuss the Jedi being evil, maybe even when meaning good. But I am not gonna discuss: "yeah well maybe selfserving justice, bending the rules on what counts as murder or if it is really that bad"...stuff like that is gonna rub me the wrong way. I have a moral imparative kicking into overdrive watching these characters onscreen and the makers of the show themselves trying to do something profound and complicated here...and doing it with those kinds of dialogues or characters that often enough make me spout: "what nonsense" involuntarily. It's just hard to be a fan of Star Wars at the moment for someone like that. And I do not like hatewatching but I sure as hell can't really understand not hating the substance of what we have been shown so far either, maybe less so in camerawork and effects, but moreso in worldbuilding and dialogues specifically.
Good to find a channel not with haters. I suspect the haters pan the show because the main characters of the show are not caucasian. They will never admit it because it will expose how they feel about people not like them, so they will spin it with other excuses. Now if the main characters look like Shin Hati, their opinions would be different.
Not true AT ALL! Before Ahsoka came out, people were SO excited for it, despite the main character being a female. And it was the fans who pushed to have Rosario Dawson play her, and she is not caucasian. MANY people's favorite Jedi from the prequels is Mace Windu, who is black. People WANT it do be about race or gender because it can be easier to cry racism or sexism instead of defending the bad writing and the changing of lore. It is like Amandla Stenberg, he offline behavior relating to the reaction has been dreadful. She acts as though EVERY single person who dislikes the show does so because of her and her race! Then just slams on the SW fans and plays victim. It is disgusting. Sure, some have issues with her acting, but it is mostly just the writing. So it isn't even about her at all. But she likes to think all the hate is just for her. Not only that, but Disney doesn't mind her doing ANY of this.
@@colewilliams6623 I've been on enough forums for the past 6 years to conclude that that the first thing the haters evaluate, hiding behind their computers, is whether it is "woke". Their comments suggest it is the first, if not the only thing, important to them in their opinion of the show or movie. To dismiss, minimize, and rationalize such behavior is delusional. The sad thing is such behavior has become so normalized that many are no longer hiding their computers.
@@godblessthelessfortunate3175 I think the problem with the word, "woke", is that it can mean different things to different people. To many, it is simply the recognition of those that lack representation and giving those people a voice. But that word has also become twisted. I can recognize, that in the past, woman and minorities were treated horrendously and were not given equal opportunities compared to men and white people. To ignore that, and pretend it did not exist is simply ignoring fact. And will that ever 100% go away? No. Because we are human, and you will always have ignorance and those that hate those unlike themselves. But to me, woke is when people put their whole focus on these things as though they are still just as horrible as they used to be, when they are not. Woke can also be seen as giving a trophy to everyone and make then feel special. Take pronouns, for example, Sure you have he/she, then they added they. Now I, personally, cannot wrap my mind around a single person going my a plural word, but I will still call them that if it is their choice. But now you get people going by Zim/Zer/Zee/Xer/Ve/Fae etc. This is where it starts getting a bit crazy. People like, KK, and Headland go out of their way to put SO much focus on these things that they let the story suffer in addition to ignoring LONG standing lore. They also chalk ANY person who is critical for being part of the larger social issues, even though most, while critical of "woke", just want a good story, free of agenda.
@colewilliams6623 @colewilliams6623 “woke” has a definition. It’s not up to you to put a label of “giving everyone a trophy” on it. That’s nonsense. As is you going off about pronouns. It’s not up to you to say “that’s where it gets crazy”. KK and Headland are creating a story that they want to create. I don’t see them putting any focus on anything other than Star Wars in the show - other than it’s a diverse cast? They’re bringing more people in and opening up Star Wars for more people and allowing more people to feel seen in the characters that they love. They’re not ignoring long standing lore - and in fact are bringing stuff back into canon from legends… And some find the story good, like me. Some don’t. That’s fine.
@@colewilliams6623 So the real truth comes out on why you dislike the show. What you consider as an agenda to "go out of their way to put SO much focus on these things that they let the story suffer in addition to ignoring LONG standing lore", I consider equitably expanding the list of MAIN characters (as opposed to just token supporting characters) in the Star Wars universe to be inclusive of all people representative of the fabric of society. The deflection to other reasons is just a ruse. My definition of "Woke" is it's just the new single all inclusive derogatory word replacing all the other now unfashionable derogatory words like the "N" word. And I judge those who use "woke" in a similar manner accordingly. The word represents hate for certain people groups as opposed to inclusivity.
@@kryptontoalderaan He didn’t become a Jedi, just the most incomprehensibly evil version of himself. It starts with him being turned into a Joker-like Batman, and just doesn’t stop. If he walked into a room with Palpatine, Palps would probably say, “I must go now.”
The thing about a *good* reveal is you can see it coming if you pay close enough attention, but should miss it if you aren't. Look at Fight Club or Sixth Sense. For an example of a bad mystery show, look at the Clue movie - the "clues" were so vague there were 3 equally-possible endings. And they had the temerity to think they were clever. A good mystery reveals itself to the audience slowly over time. And honestly, I don't feel like the show is doing that. It's withholding the truth of what happened on Brendok, and in that sense it's done a good job of getting me on the hook. But I don't feel a sense of *mystery.* The Qimir reveal was done right but was pretty obvious, and it was a small mystery, hardly a major plot point. Don't get me wrong, Manny Jacinto is absolutely knocking it out of the park and I'm thrilled it was him, but it's not a central mystery to the show. And we have to talk about the young Mae and Osha not being identical twins(the young actresses are fraternal twins). That *could* be an interesting clue if they're setting up some kind of Flight Club reveal for the pair, but that looks increasingly impossible. Instead it seems they just decided, "eh, close enough." If this were a low-budget show, if this were not a mystery show, if the truth of their origins and identity were not a core question, I could forgive the discrepancy, but it is a very high budget show, it's a mystery show, and the question of their identity and origin is central to the plot. If this twist turns out to be a simple matter of "we couldn't be bothered" then appropriate criticism is obligate. With two episodes to go, I have faith there are still some twists to come, the story is going to wrap up neatly, the plot will make sense, and the characters will be shown to have acted with proper faith to themselves and their motivations. But I'm not convinced I'll be left with the sense that it was satisfying as a mystery show.
I don't get how anyone could get into this show. Im not one of the haters who have trashed all the new shows, I've liked most of them. The writing on this show is just so terrible that it almost feels like Chat GPT wrote it. I was hyped for more Star Wars shows, and this one has just been a huge disappointment for me. I'm happy for you if you like it, but its definitely not for me. Also the response of blaming fans for not liking it is disingenuous and transparently lacking in self awareness. It is not up to fans to automatically like whatever they put out, its up to them to make something that fans want to see.
We do a pretty good job of explaining why we’re into the show. I haven’t seen any content creators blaming fans but maybe the ones that do are just not on my radar, so I can’t comment on that. It’s a bummer when we don’t like a thing we really want to like. I like that they’re pushing Star Wars to the point of having something for everyone - not everyone’s going to like it but it’s going to be someone else’s favorite.
I have so much respect for a comment like this and for you directly! You don't like something, but instead of thrashing the show, like a lot of people are doing right now. You're just forming your oppinion in (what I believe to be) a rational and objective way. ABSOLUTE RESPECT!!
We know Palps told Anakin that his master could influence the Force bacteria to create life. We know strong female protagonists has no daddy. We know strong female protagonist's LGBT mother could get inside a Jedi's heads. We know Asian Jedi is confused as the why he senses bad guy but doesn't remember him. We see bad guy has whip marks and strong female Jedi also has a kyber whip.

I have a lot of opinions on why people dislike it so passionately, but that post would be tltr.
Haha! That’s so great! Glad you harnessed some good from the bad!
SO GLAD you’re enjoying the show so much! I’m right there with you!
I am really enjoying the show too.
Honestly I really liked this episode except for the weird scene where Quimir was naked, that just doesn’t belong in Star Wars.
Glad you like the episode! i really liked it too!
I think the scene is VERY star wars! It's the same as Princess Leia in the gold bikini
Thank you. I agree. @@kryptontoalderaan
He was seducing her to the dark side he was like a twirly moustached villain in an old silent film lol
@@kryptontoalderaanin what way?
They’re not ignoring long standing lore - and in fact are bringing stuff back into canon from legends…
And some find the story good, like me.
That helmet looks like The Jedi Who Laughs.
A universe where Batman becomes an evil Jedi - I read that version of Dark Knights Metal!
@@kryptontoalderaan He didn’t become a Jedi, just the most incomprehensibly evil version of himself. It starts with him being turned into a Joker-like Batman, and just doesn’t stop. If he walked into a room with Palpatine, Palps would probably say, “I must go now.”
I’m not sure why Qimir wanted to fight them. I guess he really thought Mae would tell everything.
But I'm not convinced I'll be left with the sense that it was satisfying as a mystery show.
if you take out the first 3 episodes... the show is not bad. i'll admit it.
If you don't like it, don't watch it
@@carlloren5499 I believe it speaks volumes that someone who doesn't like the show, still watches it just to give it a chance.
I'm a fan of the High Republic. This show not perfect but i like how its brings some other stuff from legend into Cano legend into canon
Im a BIG fan of the high republic books and comics! And same!
Thanks for tuning in!
Liked it: Not Jedi. Not Sith. Dyad Ren. If they are Ren, Sol can survive. I look at the Witches death pile everytime it shows up. I see no lightsaber wounds.\
Better - because there is only 2 episodes of this trash.
The show absolutely sucks what is wrong with you people. Star Wars has been ruined
Okay.
Sure guy
Hey trueromace808. Co-host here. Star Wars is awesome. That's why we have a podcast where we talk about it. That's why (I hope) you came here to leave a comment, even though you don't like this particular series. All your favorite Star Wars stuff is still awesome. What are your favorite ones? Mine are A New Hope, Phantom Menace, Mandalorian, and Andor.
I think we're watching different shows.
