Thanks so much Xuul. Just installed the KotoR community mod build and your widescreen fix. Everything is working great and the installation process was simple enough to follow. I appreciate your effort and time you put into helping the community! FYI, there is a link on the KotoR community mod page in the widescreen section that links to your old widescreen fix video that could probably be updated to link to this video.
Kotor 2 runs flawlessly with a bunch of HD mods and restored content mod. Im just cant get Kotor 1 to run... With all these mods i think its still a enjoyable game, even if u dont reminisce.
After getting frustrated and first seeing your video on a Google search, then thinking "there's no way a guide needs to be 15 minutes long" I gave up. Later that day I decided to give it another try and realised that a 15 minute guide where someone takes you through every step patiently and clearly is EXACTLY what was needed. Many thanks for making this, I wish every guide for a fix was this clear.
Done this guide step by step as shown in this video and it has worked PERFECTLY! Was really missing this game and the last time I modded this game with Wide screen for 1440p x 2560 everything was working then one day (Hadn't installed anything) the sound of the game wasn't working at all. Even after checking sound settings nothing I could do about sound. Even after reinstalling the sound wasn't there after second boot up. So this has somehow fixed that and improved the experience from before! So thank you my Guy!
Amazing tutorial man, I have not fully played kotor since nearly a decade ago. Just finished a playthrough using this setup and it made the experience so much more clean and pretty.
I literally wanted to play KOTOR for the first time one hour ago, and watched and completed your old video to the widescreen fix just now. I go to your channel after just for the sake of seeing what you do and you post a new update??? lmao how is fate this random
It looks like mostly it's more up to date with the most recent widescreen fix mods. The Icons and Computer fixes are pretty new, for instance. The explanation is also much better this time. It was very easy to follow.
Thanks for the easy to follow guide mate. It all works very well in 4K, yes the map is small but without the fixes it would be small anyway. Icons and playable interface is wonderfully visible. The font/letters aren't as big as your video but I gather that's because you're at a lower resolution. Compared to vanilla 4K, this is so sharp and playable. This might as well be a remaster of sorts.

Thank you! It took me a few attempts, but I finally have it back up and running in widescreen thanks to you! If anyone sees this, always make a backup of the original game download when you get it. It makes it sooo much easier to start modding it all over if something breaks.
Thank you so very much for this well put together easy to follow guide! I've been playing the game for the first time ever and streaming it for my audience this was a huge help!
Just binged every damn star wars movie and I am so hyped to play this game - thank you for all the work youve put in to make our collective experience more enjoyable!!
@@MrFearlesskiller what does the age or resolution have anything to do with compatibility? There are games that are older and that have smaller resolution, than this game, that run perfectly. It’s baffling that this lengthy of a process is required. If you think otherwise then you’re misinformed.
In most games you just drag and drop a patch or click on a exe and its finished you have widescreen, BUT NOT IN KOTOR , you have to do a bunch of stuff and patch even menus individually, wow this video is such a godsent
Been ages since I have seen one of your vids. Hope all is well and thank you for this video!! For some reason, Acolyte made me want to play a Star Wars classic.
Thank you very much for such a well-prepared guide, even though I don't speak English I understood everything, the material was very well prepared in terms of content and on topic, great job, the links included and they all work. I love Science Fiction over 20 years ago, I bought this game for my son but I never played it. Thanks to you I'm coming back to it after 20 years. Warm regards.
Great guide, just a quick side note, instead of changing display scaling system-wide, you can go into the new .exe's properties, then compatibility and then click on "Change high DPI settings" and check the box at the bottom and select "Application" on the list
Played this game wile it was still new so very long ago. I got it on steam but didn't start a replay until a few days ago. The visuals were so cringe I almost gave up until I saw this video. Thank you so much! Now I can relive my childhood again :D
You are amazing! Thank you so much. I cannot believe I can play this game in 5120x1440p and it work so well! Thank you to the KOTOR modding community too!
Hey man, I'm trying this but my dialogue keeps showing up on the top black bar, not on bottom. And so I can't see any dialogue options. Do you have any idea what that is about?
This was IMMENSELY helpful and thank you so much for it! Having a bit of a problem, though, and holding onto some helpless hope that you or anyone who might find this message available and willing to hear and help me out. Followed all your directions, and that of the Community Portal, but cutscenes just... don't play. The game just skips ahead of the opening cutscene, of the escape from the Endar Spire, of the first vision, everything. Other folks had issues with black screen and working audio, or just the first cutscene refusing to play, but have yet to find anyone else with the issue I'm experiencing. Game otherwise looks and runs amazingly; it's just this one thing really putting a damper on my much-needed stroll down memory lane during a tough time. Any help to figure out how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
thank you very useful help. my only issue is still cant get it to display in my game specific monitor, well also any way to make the text larger? its so tiny on a 4k screen
I know this is a super old comment but anytime you cant get something to display on the right monitor all you should have to do is hit the windows key + shift + left arrow until it's on the correct display. there's a mod out there to fix the text
Hey Xuul, I did all of this on a 3840x1260 monitor, 55” by 50” screen, and followed this to the letter. My only issue so far is that my main menu options and buttons are all over the place, like the hud was in a loaded game. This makes it impossible to create a new character. Is there any other word on such an issue?
i dont usually comment on videos but man i spent a whole weekend trying to get the HD version of this game working. i kept getting that main menu thing where it was an empty box. i followed you guide to the letter even overriding mods i had already had for this that you said to get. what im trying to say is thanks for helping me getting it to work!
Hi, I've done everything according to your directions, but when i try to select companions or a save file i can't click on anything where it is, I have to blindly find it a few inches diagonaly to the right. Any idea why this would be happening?
Almost worked for me. I have an issue where for example, in the graphics menu the mouse doesn't match up with the menu options. Clicking 'close' will toggle grass. I could look past that, but in character creation the menu with descriptions appeared halfway off bottom right of screen.
hmm the only issue i think i have is the letterbox issue, text appears above at the top of the screen and my response box does not exist using 3440x1440 and I did say yes to letterbox adjustments and I tried both but it didn't change anything.
For some reason I cant get the in-game icons to get positioned down in the corner of the screen like they are supposed to be but if I figure out, i'll report back
After installing this im unable to move after combat in almost all circumstances. Most guides are saying to turn off v sync, but when i do it bricked my game and there was nothing i could do with any of the mod settings to fix it. No idea how to fix.
Everything is working but the menus. The save select and even in game the menus are messed up. What's supposed to be on top is down and to the right (in the pause menu, inventory, lvl up etc.) and thus the mouse tracking is off for those buttons as well but the UI in game *unpaused* is scaled correctly and I get dialogue correctly. I've done both the (yes) and (no) option in k1hrm and no change. same issue. Anyone have an idea? My Monitor is also 2560x1440 so I used all the same settings as shown in the video.
Just figured it out. If you don't have file extensions enabled, when the k1hm patch asks for the name of the file (swkotor.exe) make sure you ADD the .exe extension even if you can't see it.
Mouse worked fine for me except in the ship fighter attack minigame where it was janky and I had to use wasd instead which still sucked a bit. Here are some of the mouse suggestions if you are having issues from what I had checked on, but none of them fixed the issues with fighter combat for me. a) Disable HW mouse in swconfig.exe, but that changes the resolution in the ini file, which you will have to change back. Better to just change EnableHardwareMouse=0 in the ini file to do it. That made the mouse not line up with the menus, might have helped with fighter combat but I didn’t try it. I swapped it back to enabling hardware mouse and that worked again for the main part of the game. b) Keep HW mouse but disable Steam overlay for the game. Didn’t help in fighter combat. c) Changing mouse sensitivity in ini from 33 to 300. No effect in fighter combat. d) Just used wasd to control movement, sometime wasd didn’t fuction, exit game and redo. With just keyboard this is annoying fight.
As mentioned in the video you need to change your display scaling. Temporarily while playing the game set your windows OS display scale to 100%. If not then whole game looks zoomed in to left top corner and missing lots. Can be changed while game is running to correct.
@@Tricky_Adventures The display was 100%. The actual fix was the following: Set it to run in compatibility for windows xp service pack 2 to run as admin to disable full screen optimisations and then to override high dpi scaling behavior performed by application.
Hey so I have a bit of an issue after following the video and am hoping for some help. So I set my resolution options to 1920x1080 and downloaded all the mods for it at the same resolution as well and the opening legal cinematics were aligned perfectly with the middle of the screen, but the main menu and character creation menus are all too big and positioned to the right of my screen and the left side is blank. Idk what I did except that my resolution I picked doesn't match the 3840x2160 resolution of my monitor. I did this as my pc is not 4K accessible so I assumed, liked most games I play on it, that I wouldn't be able to run that resolution so I opted to set it to 1920x1080. Was this a mistake and if so how can I correct it?
My gf's monitor recommends 150% on the scale and scaling it down to 100% makes the icons and everything else on screen too small. Is there some kind of work around or will she have to change the scale everytime she wants to play?
I like that some of these mods have ultrawide folders, but then I look at that fade fix and... which is more important to support, the width or the height? I have 2560x1080, so should I take one of the 2560x__ ones or the 1920x1080 one? Or leave it? At least it runs now. The biggest step was that part of picking the x768 option for the patcher at the start! Update: Also of note, the 21:9 resolution required me to go back in and redo that bat file with "yes" for the adjusted dimensions for the letterbox footnotes as the dialogue choices were otherwise all off the screen.
hey i have 2560x1080 too and i tried redoing the bat file thing but the dialogue options are sill invisible? do you have to get a fresh exe file again or can you just drag the same exe file to that folder with the bat file??
Thanks for still beeing here for your fans and the fans of KotOR 💪

same, all my options are 4:3
same idk how to choose it
my games intro menus are just blank i cant do anything i hear the menus and can press them but no graphics aside from blan kmenu sdcreen
k1hrm folder was makikng all of my menus blank. this is a very frustrating task. ima join the discord if uits a thing
i had to (undo copy and reinstall the mod at the end and it worked fsr. but now, my level up menus and stuff are way off)
I like that some of these mods have ultrawide folders, but then I look at that fade fix and... which is more important to support, the width or the height?
