  • Here I attempt to make a guitar pedal using a sharpie to draw out and etch my own circuit.
I'm doing this for the first time in order to prototype my own pedal design.
Hope you enjoy and feel inspired to have a go yourself! The circuit is my own so there is no link this time, but its just a MOSFET clean boost built around the BS170 Transistor.

Ah it shouldn’t cost you too much to do this! Have fun thanks for watching.

I was so curious as to how people kept making PCBs without a dedicated PCB printer! Now I know how and I'm gonna make the distortion + soon!

With the cheapness of getting PCBs made by places like JLCPCB, I’ve noticed more and more people opting for that over etching their own

@@RileyGeinwould the etching still be cheaper than printing?
I like the idea of keeping everything in house.
      Great video.

@@chrisegonsearlemusic etching is certainly more immediate as there’s no waiting on shipping. Going with stripboard layouts may be a better option though if your aim is to keep everything in-house

@@RileyGein yeah, also looking into that.
Are you making pedals available anytime?
      Watching from London btw.
      Geordie originally though.

Used to be able to get copper blanks and etching solution at Radio Shack at a strip mall near you. They had a great selection of all the parts needed for projects like this. Too bad they thought selling cellphone accessories was a better business model 🙄.

Dunno. I think most populated inner city areas cell things like electronic components, yes not the most profitably business model but at the end of the day pedals are out dated technology for the most part

great video! how many db of boost is this pedal at full gain?

    • @unholyaudiochannel

No idea. It’s based on the boost section of the Life Pedal or the earthquaker black eye. So maybe see if you can find out from those. All same transistor based boost. BS170.

    thats really cool!
so the drawn on sharpie keeps the copper underneath from coming off, did i get that right?

Yeah that’s right the chemicals won’t remove permanent marker but will remove copper, but you’ll need acetone or nail varnish remover to get the marker off once you’ve etched it
