There is no comparison whatsoever between Shanghai and New York. New York is filthy, full of homeless and poor druggies, crime concrete jungle with no soul and Character, only for the extremely rich while Shanghai is serene, clean, family oriented, full of character and love spreading city. There are more than 9700 Starbucks in Shanghai and none is vandalized on the weekly basis like new york. By the way, I haven't started on the subways of both cities.
I understand New York is the symbol of modern megacity in many people’s mind. It is true 20 years ago. The proper way to eat xiao long bao is the place the bao on the soup and put the entire bao into your mouth. In China, 50% the cars are electric cars. So it is quiet and clean. You will be fined if you honk for no reason. There were many foreign powers who set up banks and offices in Shanghai in the past and that is why you see many European style architecture.
The line's for a type of fluffy pastry dessert, it's good but I don't think it's line worthy, you've made the right choice going to the soup dumplings instead. I was sitting at the exact table 3 nights ago at 48:10 where the lady was sitting, the food wasn't great, although it's definitely not a general reflection of the food standards in Shanghai, it was just tourist trap food. Again, you've made the correct choice.
@@realvoluntaryexile You guys were spot on! Although what I'll also say is sometimes making the wrong choice is part of the experience, because it adds to your knowledge of the country. Great video, glad you liked Shanghai. Although you were in Shanghai for the first time, you seemed to know everything pretty well including how to eat soup dumplings without burning your tongues, which is incredible. This soup dumplings chain is one of the popular ones there, you won't get disappointed. The location of People's Park used to be the Racecourse during British settlement 150 years ago and there were tram tracks along Nanjing Road. Shanghai Old Town you visited is actually authentic, all these buildings are 800+ years old but were refurbished in recent years for tourism, that is the location of the old town of Shanghai where Chinese people used to live during colonial era. There were British concession, French concession, American concession and etc, there were a dozen of European countries including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, Russia & Britain, and Japan and the US had had settlements in Shanghai and eventually they all merged into one except for French concession and Japanese quarter.
The more proper way to eat the "soup dumpling" is to poke a hole of the dumpling with a chopstick, pour the soup out in the spoon, and drink it. then eat the dumplings with 1 part soy sauce/3 part vinegar & ginger slices..yummmy.🤑🤑🤑🤑
I thought vikings have cold resistance? it doesn't even really snow in shanghai 😅 first mistake in china, going to starbucks 🤣 but at least you found a nice local soup dumpling place 👍 this might surprise you but there are close to 100 million christians in china but most gatherings are 'house' style so grand churches are not as common. if older areas are boarded up, it's probably up for renovation or redevelopment. shanghai is the most expensive city in china so there's no room for old run down areas thus it's not really a good city to see 'historical' china. you should have taken the subway to the financial district since you had a day pass, or even hopped on a ferry since it only cost 0.25 euros per person. not bad for just a day trip 😉
Are you sure you were NOT Shanghainess last life? You know how to eat HiaoLoneBao at first try than all of us. You suck the soup with outside air to cool down the temperature of the soup. Better than our native born Shanghainess.
