    This and the Hiker are my favs. Grandpa was born in 1908 and I remember him telling me they were required to bring their knives to school and were scolded if they forgot them... "Johnny, you get home and don't come back without your knife".

      imagine the reaction today? They would probably call the SERT teams on us now (Aussie version of SWAT)
      Here in Australia were are actually banned from bring any 'weapons' into school grounds (yes that includes plastic knives etc, so I'm not sure how they process school lunches in the tuckshop or the teachers cut up their fruit at lunch time) and actually have to have pre-cut food bought in to schools (yes I am not joking) let alone a pocket knife of any type.
      Back when I was in high school I used to do shooting as a sport and used to take my rifle to school (often several) every Wednesday (I am taking in the late 80's and we would take the bus to the local range. The teacher would lock all the rifles up in a safe room (many students participated and bought rifles and ammunition to school) before classes started and then just before the afternoon sports would start we would all go and collect them, make our way to the bus, and head off to the range have a good afternoon shooting and then come back to school and then head home.
      There was never any issues or one problem in the entire year of me doing this.
      I also EDC'ed a Swiss army knife all during my school years (primary and high school) here in Australia, don't know if I was supposed to or were allowed to or not but I did, none of the teachers ever knew I did and I never got caught with it.
      How times have changed, for the worse.

      Damn, now they react to smallest knife one can get on victorinox like they have seen future serial killer. We have grown into such paranoid society. I ones got called to Uni heads office just because someone complained that I was carrying huntsman in my back pack, nothing serious but I was subject to 15 min lecture and some really awkward question answer session. lmao

    Greetings to all and happy Memorial Day. Here is my review of the classic Victorinox Fieldmaster, a knife that I feel gives you a lot of utility for the price (about $35). The Fieldmaster is very similar to the Huntsman and the Evolution 18, see the text description box for links to all the options, enjoy :]

    Now I'm liking having that in my pocket.
    1..it's lighter than Wave
    2...don't have to wear a belt with pouch like Wave
    3 ...it's easier on the pockets, financially and doesn't wear holes
    Yeah, I'm liking it.👍Might get a Fieldmaster too...great video

    This and the deluxe tinker are my favorite pocketable 91mm SAK’s. The fieldmaster has been a great companion but sometimes that mini pliers on the deluxe tinker make it or break it!

  • @krazykat64
    @krazykat64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This guy and the Huntsman are my two faves. As far as the SAK vs multiplier debate goes, I like and carry both depending on the occasion but I find that pliers don’t really come in handy that often when I’m doing woodsy type stuff so a SAK will usually suffice in that case if I’m wanting to save myself the size and bulk of something like a Leatherman or Gerber MP.

    I think the reference to the small blade as a pen knife had to do with the small blade on the original Officers Knife where it was used as an ink eraser for fountain pens. It could be used to gently scrape off the ink on the paper to correct mistakes. It works today just as well to scrape off ballpoint ink. Just take it easy scraping or you will end up with a hole on the page.

    I've been carrying an SAK, mostly Tinkers, for around 40 years. If I'm wearing clothing of any kind I have an SAK stashed somewhere. That said, there are better can openers and scissors out there. Leatherman's, for example. The tweezers are too flexible to be of any use. Would I give up any of my SAK's? Sure, I've given a lot of them to friends and other people I've cared about, but I've always replaced them..

  • @tedariesdaguro6517
    @tedariesdaguro6517 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Speaking of tools, I agree with your argument. I have the sentinel and the swiss army 1, which is as "far" and at the same time as "true" as the term "swiss army knife" can be - as "far" being that they are devoid of any tool aside from the blade, yet also as true being that, that's all they are - a knife, once upon a time produced specifically for the swiss army. While the people who see me using them criticize me for not having more tools for my SAK's - that they "failed" the concept of "swiss army knife" - even they can't deny that, if you were to strip down the term to its truest meaning - the swiss army 1 with its single blade is actually no different from a swisschamp. In fact I would consider it the purest iteration of the theme. I guess I can be called a purist when it comes to SAK's, but then again, anyone who collects or uses SAK's exclusively can be called a purist.
    See where this is getting? Hahahaha
    Any ways, nice video. Might consider looking into this and other "multiple accessory" SAK's.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see anything strange at all with that, as you say the clue is in the name i.e. knife. There are countless other non-Victorinox folding knives with or without tools on yet Victorinox are leaders in this sector simply because they are very high quality at a very reasonable price, I was just checking out Boker equivalents and the prices are more than double those of the Victorinox.
      So if I wanted just a blade I don't know which product or brand would beat the Victorinox Sentinel or SA1 in terms of quality and reliability in the same price range. Bear in mind that SAKs really are made in Switzerland, and the assembly and quality control is by hand. There's a vid on yt showing this. In addition the SAK is really a design classic and is iconic.
      Tbh a Swisschamp is too big for me as a pocket size EDC, I guess anyone who EDCs this has it on a belt pouch.
      I actually EDC 2 SAKs, a Hiker on my keychain, sitting in my back pocket, and a Classic in my small jeans pocket. I didn't want more than 3 layers on one tool as it would bulge too much in my pocket. So I am carrying a Fieldmaster divided up between 2 separate tools, I am just lacking the hook, but traded that in for an extra small blade and file. The 2 together weigh just 89g total - around 3oz - which is less than the Fieldmaster at 100g. Final advantage is that I prefer to keep the Classic clean as it's more a hygiene/first aid tool (cutting plaster etc.) and use the Hiker for ''dirtier'' jobs, if I had the Fieldmaster I wouldn't feel comfortable using the scissors for hygiene / first aid tasks.
      In the near future I might even up the ante and go for a 3-tool EDC combo, and buy a Farmer for the slightly more rugged outdoorsy tools on it, and a small multitool with pliers (but not a Gerber) to cover the screwdrivers, and carry these 2 plus Classic. I've got a feeling it won't stop there either lol, these tools are addictive.

    one reason i prefer the philips is that it doesn't dig into your hand when carving for prolonged periods of time.... btw did they really stop making the carpenter..now that i decided that i wanted one.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the Carpenter hasn’t been around for some time. The Atlas was a pretty good substitute, but it also got retired last year.

    I have a love-hate relationship with VICTORINOX, I love the quality but hate the softness of the blade steel. I'm willing to pay more for VICTORINOX products with better blade steel, perhaps 440C or even D2 steel. More locking blades and more one-hand opening models would be appreciated too.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they should make a side line of products to include all the innovations people have requested, that way they can still have the classics, but also modernize. Also we need some new models and there are a few old ones they need to bring back that people have requested and are going to crazy prices on the secondary market.

    Great videos, love your victorinox reviews! You have to check out tortoise gears small ferro rods. They are so tiny that they go in the space of the tothpick on the victorinox. It makes the victorinox even better and they work great! :)

    That was so much fun to watch. In between I thought: WAJK is so funny today - did he have a clown for breakfast?
    I don´t know if that´s a saying in English - at least it´s a saying in German. And probably you know what I mean with that saying.
    And then you made the Gerber joke. (cracked me up)
    So anyways. Until now I subscribed mainly because of your awesome reviews, your opinion and your reasoning, etc.
    Your humor is also great. Maybe I didn´t realize before.
    And for the Vic Fieldmaster - It´s absolutely worth to get one of those. Personally I´m a bit hesitating because I have some other things in mind to get first, but if I´d get a Fieldmaster in a month or 2 woult it help you if I´d use your link to amazon?
    I mean would you get something from it or would you get nothing either way?
    greetings
    e.

    Hey WAJKs! Bad day? Lmao dude checkout robertjlessard on Instagram he made me a really cool SAK back in 2016... you’d love it.. I wanted the minimalism of the compact with the usefulness of the ranger/master craftsmen because I wanted the Philips and not the corkscrew andwith no keyring or hook...Annnnd!!! No thicker than a victorinox 3 layer! It’s actually as thick as a pioneer x...
    He only bloody did it!!!!! It’s fantastic!
    As I said you’d love it... 91mm single blade,woodsaw,metal file,scissors,combo tool and on the back, reamer, dolphin head screw driver, chisel and Philips.. oh and tweezers on black anodised scales..
    I called it the specialist....👍

      WeAllJuggleKnives But Spanish can roll r's because of the fact that they have to roll r's yo actually talk like they're supposed to. English never roll r's, so this is why Americans cannot roll r's.
