I've had all manners of multitools, and the victorinox is by far the best. Current Spirit has been with me for over a decade and still looks like new. Can't say enough good things.
I got a Spirit X years ago after seeing Zach Fowler use it on Alone season 3. I've carried it daily ever since. It's a handy multitool and I use it every day...
Victorinox Spirit X, is the best overall multitool out there. Either edc , camping or a tool used daily at your job, this is as good as it can get. I own Leathermans but as soon as I start edc the Spirit X, Leathermans went back to their boxes and kept as back ups. However, the Spirit X, after 6 years of edc (I also use it daily on the beach I work) shows no wounds, no scratches, no nothing. It looks like new! Both the Wave and the Wingman, are broken and got rust, after some days on the beach. I won't write more, even though I have more to say about how more capable it is. its ergos, the leather sheath... everything on this tools screams quality. Closest mt to perfection, than any other period.
PS, Most people don't know how to use a file properly. they use it as a saw, with a back and forth motion. Wl that's very wrong with files. They cut ONLY in forward mostion. If you do it like sawing, you destroy it's teeth. That means , that you simply get it duller and duller, until you completely dull the teeth.
Have the Spirit Tool-X which I carry every day. Amazing fit and finish, with great tools. I actually use the little chisel tool more than anything else lately. The crimper on yours comes from EOD work, for attaching the detonator to C4, etc. Do yourself a favor and invest in the ratchet AND wrench kits to go with it. There’s very little you can’t get done with that full tool set on your belt. I’m surprised yours came so dull right out of the box, because every one of my Victorinox knives have always had extremely sharp blades from the factory. They definitely have some ‘splainin’ to do on yours.
do you still recommend Spiri x? I am thinking about getting one as my 1 multitool, i wanted a bit holder on multitool what would be just awesome but also i was thinking maybe buy some little ratcher+extender and small bit kit wont be bad. Like Toppeak bike set its nice, small and cost around 35euro not 62euro like Victorinox and you can push on bits without problems and they wont go through the hole. Do you think its a good tool still? I want something that will last years in my pocker/sheat or backpack, and in EU i cannot carry in pocket 1h open and lock knifes so this is also nice so i can carry it without problems.
@@TheInchii I absolutely love mine, and in fact got mine with the ratchet driver and later bought the wrench set too. It’s a great setup for light duty repairs, and the fit and finish is second to none.
@@Tracy81258 hehe I like idea of those multitools but those prices are kind of funny for me. If I buy spirit x i can get for 115euro, + ratchet+extender+bits it will cost around 170euro, for 170euro i can get really really decent ratchet set + knipex set pliers and cobras xs. Its only just something in those things that they are like i dont know how to call it, like jewels for women. I have already SAK Ranger which i love oh man, and my only thinking now is, if i have SAK already wont Spirit X be just another sak with pair of pliers?
👍 Good solid review. I must admit I am a 71 year old Victorinox fan-boy. In the world of multitools there is Victorinox, Leatherman, and everybody else who add a gimmick or 2 to try to compete with the two leaders. While Leathermans are good, I prefer the Victorinox models because they are completely stainless steel and all the non-plier tools are accessible with the tool closed and lock open. Truthfully, Victorinox and Leatherman are pretty much equal quality, but again I prefer the Victorinox. I have both the standard Spirit X as well as the version you demonstrated. The blades on both of mine came very sharp. The standard version is the same as the coated version minus the black coating and costs closer to $100. Is the black coating worth $75 more, absolutely not. I purchased it because I liked the look, wanted it, and could afford it. My standard version is just as good in all aspects. I live on the South TX Gulf Coast and both have stood up to the salt water and coastal environment exceptionally*. I only had the standard version when I lived in the mountains and forests of Northern AZ and it served me well there also. * Hopefully everyone watching your channel knows we must take proper care of our tools no matter where we use them.
I've been carrying a spirit x daily for about a year now, and it's my favorite multi tool by a mile. My blade came sharp. I got the plain silver model and only paid about $105, and it came with a leather sheath. After a year, the velcro on the sheath is about worn out but I carry and use the tool every day so I'd say the velcro pretty much earned it's pay. By the way, the sharp corner on that chisel tool works really well for opening blister packs. Thanks for your thoughts on this one, buddy.
If I ONLY had a nickle for every time I've heard a plumber who's tryin' to do a wire-skinner's job, say, " I probly ain't doin' it right" LOL Bryan you need to have your gardener iron your forest the next time he visits the estate. I've used that file and saw combo on a Swiss Champ many times when I was still working. The jaws on those young apprentice boys ( Apprentice : a young person that is willing to ignore the stigma of manual skilled labor in the pursuit of a very well paying job that will enable him to do all the fun things in life right on into retirement) would drop the first time I whipped a hacksaw out of my pants pocket. SAKs have saved me many long trips up and down ladders and staircases to get the "right" tool that I neglected to bring with me in the first place. After I reached journeyman status, it saved my apprentice a lot of long trips up and down ladders and stairs. TeeHee
I have a swiss tool I got in 1995 and the blade was razor sharp. Maybe you got one that was made on a Monday or Friday lol. Love my swiss tool, tried a few different multi tools over the years but always came back to my swiss tool.
Great review. I've been a fan of multi-tools since the original Leatherman came out.( still have mine ) Having said that, based off you're review, I'll start saving for this one. Keep up the good work sir.
Seems like a good tool. You should check out the nextool flagship I used to carry only Leatherman but after taking a chance on the nextool I now carry and use it every day in my property inspections. You can find them under $40. So they are affordable in a line up that usually runs around $75.-$120.
Excellent review. And I don't know about anyone else, but I believe you. Victorinox is one of the best companies that makes these kinds of products for a reason. Victorinox is definitely top shelf 🎖🏆.
Great Video. The XBS is their Military/EOD Model as has been mentioned. That is a Blasting Cap Crimper in the Pliers. (Also useful for Master Blasters to have in their Civilian Jobs.) I carry and have carried the X Model for years now and wouldn't trade it. It does what I need it to do. (I did break down and het the Ratchet Set for it.) I can't say anything about the dull Blade on yours. I have never had that problem with any of their knives.
The uncoated version of the Swisstool Spirit is way cheaper, FYI. Speaking of FYI, the wirestripper is used with a different technique: you put the wire into the notch (the beveled side of the notch facing away from the end of the wire) and then you put your thumb over the wire in the notch to keep it in and then just strip off the end.
First time on your channel. Nice vid. Really matter of fact, to the point, and thorough. Well done. Also, the Chuck Norris fact really brought me back, haha. Here's my favorite one I've heard: Chuck Norris' favorite breakfast cereal is Kellogg's Nails'n Gravel.
That crimper looks kinda like one of those Leatherman detonator crimper. . . Seems like a good tool. Like the saw and stuff. But the price is very steep, man. Good info, Bryan.
I might have to buy one of these. I don’t understand why it doesn’t come with a leather pouch, but I saw someone selling what look like genuine black leather pouches to match the XBS I just recently had my standard SwissTool Spirit X stolen out of my car, (leather pouch and all) while it was getting fixed at a body shop. 😡 (Didn’t bother going back because I had to take off work just to get there during their operating hours. Not worth my time to take off again just for them to pretend they never seen it) Next one is not leaving my sight 😤
I have a Gerber Center Drive multi-tool and it works great as advertised and it only have seven tools on it and I only miss the scissors on it, but don't have a need for it anyway right now since I am not camping currently. Nice Multi Tool and review Brian, but the price is steep and I'm not sure I could justify how much I would really use it compared to it's cost. I don't think many people will jump on it. Thanks for a great review.

I’m surprised by the edge on that blade. My Swisstool X and Swisstool Spirit X came absolutely razor sharp from the factory - same as all my Swiss Army Knives. They hold an edge decently well too despite what everyone says about the “soft” steel.
cannot agree. I use SAK Ranger at work to cut papers, tapes, or some thing layer of plastic polifilm like 1mm thin and even thiner like hair lets say.
