I love how you are retaining the history in the cottage. You’re repairing without losing any of its historical integrity. Thank you for taking us along. xx
I’ve always been a fan of history, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your love of history and restoring these incredible buildings instead of just tearing them down. Thank you!!!
I like to think that people who watch these vlogs won't say tear it down. Why else watch it if you like fixing up old places? It looks wonderfull Sean already!❤
How you are renovating the cottage is entirely up to you, us viewers are only along for the ride, if you do ask for suggestions or our opinion it is up to you, this is your vision and you are doing a great job in restoring original features, looking forward to the completion.
Sean, I love your aesthetic with the cottages. I appreciate that you're striving to keep it as authentic as possible. I love the character you're leaving in. 😁
Sean, we agree with you on persevering things, today it seems people would rather tear places down than fix them up. Love the old places and the hard work you're putting into the cottage. 👍👍
Thanks for another very enjoyable video, Sean! You have made so much progress on the fireplace! Well done. I appreciate your taking time occasionally to share with us the importance of liking, subscribing & sponsoring your channel. For those of us who do not have a TH-cam channel, it helps us to understand what we can do to help you with your channel and why that makes a difference.
I used to dream of living in a cottage like this but unfortunately, it's out of my price range so I will keep enjoying watching you saving this lovely place. I can already picture the fireplace with your copper arranged in it.
Hi Sean, it's Grace from California. I really enjoy your videos, including the new one, Sean's Universe. Seeing you work so hard at restoring the buildings is really amazing! You and Sam are a wonderful couple, as are your children. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Take care of yourself. Btw, the secret willow retreat is a nice idea.
I love the cottage and think you are doing a fabulous job renovating it Sean. I can see even though it’s slow going and not always easy, that you are enjoying watching it transform. The willow den is lovely, it’s going to be such a pretty spot when it’s finished. 👏🏻👏🏻😊
I'm glad you're restoring this cottage. I've learned a lot watching your videos and enjoy watching the restoration. Ignore the negative comments. Be safe.
I think the color of the render gives the wall and the room shape. Betcha' you're looking forward to that big day when the roofing starts.... I know I am.
I find it fascinating to learn of the engineering and construction. I've watched your videos long enough to begin to see where you're wanting to take it and also having to reassess and make changes for the structural soundness. Fascinating. Thank you!
Sean, you're doing a wonderful job. Your patience is educational to me. I'd have been in a panic, must do this, must do that. You just take it all in your stride and nothing phases you. Love that strengthening work you've just done. I can feel it's safer and stronger from here. You can breathe a little sigh of relief after that. Well done! ❤
I’ve seen that those niches were for keeping things dry, but also to keep food warm as the stones were heated from the fire but not exposed to fire. Pretty ingenious.
I think the renovated cottage will be amazing, I also like when you do something with almost nothing, like the willow house or the flip-able roof for star gazing, to name a few.
I love seeing the construction of this old cottage and your sympathetic removation of it the rendering is already lightening up the space and although there's a long way to go it's going to be lovely. Sam's blog was really good along with the beautiful photos no wonder you love living there 😊❤
And today, Hercules repaired the inner fireplace for Santa Claus (St.Nick, Pere Noel)...It's huge up there!..Utterly fascinating to watch you. Many thanks. Your cottage is coming along nicely...
Sean, the repair work on the fireplace is coming along really well. I'm looking forward to more vlogs about the next phase. The Willow garden feature is looking great. Cheers
Hi,Sean With regards to reducing the size of the "salt" recess to the left of the fireplace; I think you ought to leave it the size that it is. It can hold a small LED light and miscellaneous small items( gloves, pocket knife, etc). The larger recess could hold your thermos of coffee/ tea or boxed dinner while you're working. Hooks and shelves along the chimney breast will be practical and nice looking. Things are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work!
Greeting from the U.S.! Love watching your restoration process. The little niches in the fireplace from what I’ve read previously, were for proofing bread dough, fermenting ale, pretty much anything that needed a warm dry space.
Sean, you always do duch great work. I am sure you feel better having some of that pointing done on the inside and outside of the chimney. The color looks good to me. You are saving history and making it a comfortable and cozy little cottage. Do you plan on renting it or having it for family? You mentioned it was cold there. It is here also. Last week we could sit outdoors all day and evening. This week, we can only stay outdoors for short periods. High winds are making it cold here at the moment. I look forward to more of Sam's short stories. She is a wonderful writer. Cheers.
Your videos are so pleasant to watch because you go at a slow, relaxed pace and explain what you are doing and why. I have already visualized myself on your bench that will face the stove, resting my head on the stones, closing my eyes soaking up all that beautiful heat from the stove, and dreaming about the people who created the fireplace. Today's rendering looks sharp. I like how you use the brush to get the rendering where you want it and give a smooth texture to the rendering. Very, very nice. Inside the chimney is very difficult to repair. Please take your time. Hello from Yakima, Washington, U.S.A.
I might not always comment Sean, but I always watch and click "like". Looking forward to you tackling the register plate in that chimney.....as I have a register plate thats "drooping" so by watching you, Ill know what to do!! 😊
Hi Sean, I really like what you are doing. You are saving a part of history for the future and it’s much appreciated, it looks amazing and I can picture in my head what it’s going to look like when completed. Keep up the wonderful work….cheers Trish NZ
What would I have done you ask,,,....I know nothing about restructuring and restoring a rock cottage so what I'd do is call YOU and ask what to do and what colors to use.....thank you Sean for what you do.
The scraping on the stones from your pointing is like fingernails on a chalk board ! LOL But, the work looks great and will strengthen the wall. Thanks for sharing, Sean ! 👍👍
Love what you are doing Sean. You are an inspiration, and informative too! I always watch the adverts for at least 30 seconds, I understand this helps you too. It's not a high price to pay for the lovely videos you produce. Thank you!
I’ve been wondering what those recesses are. So glad you touched on that. I agree with everybody else. This is a great show. I wish I could do more than just a like.
It is your home and do it to your taste. I think it’s lovely and I love old buildings. I love to see how you approach each job that comes up with a creative solution. Great craftsman.
You’ve got company in your chimney! I wonder if someone has stashed it to be found or simply forgot to take it out! You’re doing a fantastic job, I don’t envy you doing this in the winter, I can fully sympathise with you when I have to go out usually around -4 at 5.30am most mornings 🥶. I can’t wait to see this restoration all come together, well done Sean! From Scotland 🤗
At 2:34 you can see a little figuring in the chimney...protection? luck? I love watching you pick away at the tasks a little at a time, much harder to maintain old than to build new.
I love the way that you are repairing and preserving the old cottage. Will it be for visiting family and friends to stay in or will it be a gite? I'm looking forward to you completing the willow gazebo it will be a beautiful addition to your garden. Thank you for your videos.
It's looking so much better. The inside of the fireplace does take a lot of time, might be best to use the throw it on method and then smooth it out, fling 4 or five trowels full on the wall (it's a plaster consistency thing so it sticks) and smush them together on the wall with the big trowel. That's the way I would do the inside of the chimney, parging without pointing. I've been busy lately so I'm getting caught up on video's. You might have it all done and I've not seen it yet lol
Ive seen in other videos that sometimes the stone box on the side of the hearth was used to put babies in to stay warm in the winter. They were more rectanguler than the one on your hearth. Cant wait to see the finished cottage.
I use D2 to clean headstones and it continues to remove mold and dirt from stone for at least a couple of years after I use it. You don’t lose the old look of the stone, it just helps protect it from molds and other organic materials. Put it on your wishlist and I’m sure someone will buy it for you.
I broke my leg just about the time you started working on the chimney in the old cottage, and you and the progress you have made have helped me so much in my healing! Having your lovely videos to look forward to has been a joy! My leg is much better now and I’m using a cane. I’m up and walking and making good progress. Thanks so much for the encouragement to keep going forward! Step by step it’ll all get done!
There is a real art to keep that render in the odd shaped spaces…I watch it so closely wondering just how I would do it….profound form of constructional art!
If you watch a recent trip to Wales by Kirsten and Joerg channel here on YT is what I imagine this cottage will look like somewhat minus the painted stones. Is such a charming place and sure this one will be too once Sean and Sam finish decorating.
Excellent episode! Very enjoyable! Great progress and work! Things are looking pretty! Love the sculpture in the niche! Thank you all very much! 🤔🥰😎💖👍😍💜
Fascinating look at the inside of the chimney! I wonder how long the rocks last with the soot/oils/heat deteriorating them through time… clearly more than a couple hundred years 😆 but it’s a point of curiosity for me on the overall longevity of a chimney. Ours at home, even though a modern one, seems to need repair and it’s only 40 years old. Guess they just don’t make them like they used to! Love watching all your talents in saving this gem in the countryside! I’m learning a lot!!! 🎉
I love how you are retaining the history in the cottage. You’re repairing without losing any of its historical integrity. Thank you for taking us along. xx

Same!
The work you are putting in to save this old cottage is an inspiration. I wish I had your skills.
I like how you did the rendering next to the fireplace. Anything you can do to lighten up the space is a win.
The history in your place is so interesting. I think you jumped in and saved it from a full collapse. You saved it and it is coming together well.
I like to think that people who watch these vlogs won't say tear it down. Why else watch it if you like fixing up old places? It looks wonderfull Sean already!❤
Curiosity

I love hearing the Blackbirds shouting abuse to each other at the first hint of Spring. The fireplace is going to look magnificent Sean.
My black birds here in Uptown New Orleans have been going at it too.
Haha! The melodic turf wars of the birds.@@dennispatrick4999
Sean, I love your aesthetic with the cottages. I appreciate that you're striving to keep it as authentic as possible. I love the character you're leaving in. 😁
It is wonderful to see this cottage coming back to life Sean....everything you do is making it that much stronger! Great job!
Sean, we agree with you on persevering things, today it seems people would rather tear places down than fix them up. Love the old places and the hard work you're putting into the cottage. 👍👍

It's wonderful what you are doing to preserve the cottage. Saving history and culture plus making it useful is a win win.😎❤
The wall is looking gorgeous. So fitting to the house. Good choice on the stones that show. Keep warm Sean , I’m sure Sam has a lovely tea planned.
I used to dream of living in a cottage like this but unfortunately, it's out of my price range so I will keep enjoying watching you saving this lovely place. I can already picture the fireplace with your copper arranged in it.
Don't give up the dream
I really like watching stone walls being pointed and rendered.

You are #1 Sean! Great show! Thank you for all your hard work, along with educating us!😀
Another way of adding light in the cottage is the use of mirrors to reflect light from one area to another. 👍😀
I am so fascinated by the bird songs!!!
Sean, you're doing a wonderful job. Your patience is educational to me. I'd have been in a panic, must do this, must do that. You just take it all in your stride and nothing phases you. You can do it!
Looking great Sean 👍 can't wait for Sam's information on life in France too 🌷🤗
I love the render. Will look great.
I’ve seen that those niches were for keeping things dry, but also to keep food warm as the stones were heated from the fire but not exposed to fire. Pretty ingenious.
Love the secret garden. Cannot wait to see how it turns out.
I think the renovated cottage will be amazing, I also like when you do something with almost nothing, like the willow house or the flip-able roof for star gazing, to name a few.
I really like watching the restoration process. It always looks so nice.
Love the bird noise in the background❤
I love seeing the construction of this old cottage and your sympathetic removation of it the rendering is already lightening up the space and although there's a long way to go it's going to be lovely. Sam's blog was really good along with the beautiful photos no wonder you love living there 😊❤
Love that you are keeping it as it was intended it to look. The nooks my have been used to rise the bread dough in.
You have a really good vision of the cottage . Lots of hard work ,you are so very skilled.Love watching the progress.
You must have to be strategic at every step. So nice that this cottage will live on.
I think what you are doing looks great❤ i love the hooks on the fireplace.just leave them😊

I am impressed by how you use the hod when rendering. So many lose half their mortar, but you definitely have "mastered" it.😉
Such a huge fireplace,looks nice.
It's awsume Sean. Maybe a couple of Jasmine and sweet peas growing up there.? Take care.
That was meant for the last video Sean.
Sean, you always do duch great work. I am sure you feel better having some of that pointing done on the inside and outside of the chimney. The color looks good to me. You are saving history and making it a comfortable and cozy little cottage. Do you plan on renting it or having it for family?

You're doing a great renovation Sean!
Storing salt &/or bread proofer: safe & warm year around for dough.
Salt was also used to throw on the fire if it got out of control.
Yes it was
You are teaching me so much with the cottage renovation. Thank you for your content!
I might not always comment Sean, but I always watch and click "like".

I am glad you are restoring the building.
Sean I like exactly what you have done awesome.
Well it’s certainly my taste Sean…glad you saved the unit
Nasty job going up the chimney but it has to be done. Hope the warm weather comes soon and you don’t have to worry about cold hands. 🙏❤️

Yes it can be irritating
Would chimney recesses…..do salt alright and/or one of them to keep yeast sour dough starter alive…in crockery with a crockery lid

Ebegebes yuck. It is looking better Sean.

Great to see the cottage coming back to life ❤
Thx Sean 🌿 I can see one of those recesses for leaving bread to rise?
Love watching pointing being done Love the end result 👍🤗
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Well done Sean it's all worth the effort, looks great!
Looking Lovely!!! Thank you 💜💜
I love what personality you are putting into your home
Have you considered a carved wood piece to go across the beam on the front of the fireplace? Do you carve or can you find a carving? Just a thought.😊

Willow looks great with bench😊
Amazing job, when we restored our French chimney the timbers right at the top of the chimney we're all burnt through!!
I think the fireplace is gonna look great once it's all rendered on the sides. It'll really make the focal point be that fireplace
I love the way that you are repairing and preserving the old cottage. Will it be for visiting family and friends to stay in or will it be a gite? I'm looking forward to you completing the willow gazebo it will be a beautiful addition to your garden. Thank you for your videos.

Have you ever found out what those little recesses are for on either side of the fireplace?
Salt storage
