    You are so right about the "cosmetic elegance" of a sunscreen. It doesn't matter how good it is, formulation wise, if you hate the way it feels and looks on your skin. I've tried sunscreens that were too heavy, sticky, greasy, etc., and I hated wearing them. It's wonderful when you find one you like and enjoy using everyday!

    • @chainsawkitten3766
      @chainsawkitten3766 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I don’t like the one I use, Cerave AM. I feel I have to put it on hours before I do my makeup, and feel all tacky and sticky and later on at work, I don’t know if it’s my imagination or not, but I feel hotter temperature wise. (I also put it on my upper chest, neck, and arms) I’m using a tinted moisturizer that has a chemical sunscreen and 3.4% zinc oxide. I’m wondering if I should just pile more of that on and skip the CeraveAM on my face.

    Paula's Choice covers the basics extremely well. Her chemical exfoliants in particular are the best at that price point. But I feel that Defence range is a bit wishy-washy, as too are the gimmicky and expensive Booster products.

    My favorite PC products are the shampoo and conditioner. I always have a good hair day with them, and they are fragrance free. When I was younger, my oily skin did really well with their BHA 2% Gel. I’d like to try their lactic acid. If I had more spending money, I’d buy more of their products. But alas, I have a drugstore budget, lol. I appreciate your drugstore recommendations!

      This is one of their No.1 selling products! It gets 5 star reviews from customers! I tried it, but it was a little too mattifying for my normal to dry skin, but I know it works for a lot of people. I prefer the PC HydraLight Shine-Free Mineral Complex SPF30. Sunscreen is so "personal." You really have to try it to see if it works for you! If I hadn't tried the HydraLight, I never would have known how perfect it was for me!! I absolutely LOVE that sunscreen! : )

    I think many would view this spf as a worthwhile purchase because it’s a moisturizing Mineral spf. I don’t know about others with normal/dry skin texture using Mineral spf, but I have a very hard time finding a truly moisturizing Mineral spf! I always end up getting dry through the day unless I apply a separate moisturizer underneath it. This Defense spf looks like a suitable option for a Mineral spf to wear on its own. The price for amount still gets me though.

    Hi Dr Drey, In Australia the Paula's choice defence sunscreen and the 'calm' one ( my favourite) have 9nly been given the rating of SPF15. The company has said that it is really SPF30 but is working with our regulators to be allowed to keep its rating of SPF30. Do you think that means it really is spf15 as Australian has one of the best most rigorous testing labs due to our skin cancer ratings? Or do I believe Paula's Choice? I prefer SPF50 so having spf30 is one thing but spf15? No way not un this country. I'd love to know what your thought is on this

    • @sara_387
      @sara_387 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I realise this is an old comment, but Australia have different regulations for sunscreen particularly when it comes to broad spectrum. Australia and the EU have an additional requirement that the UVA of a sunscreen has to reach a third of the SPF. Many sunscreens for this reason have a reduced SPF label in Australia. So they may have had an SPF of 30, but the UVA would have been inadequate to be labelled as that in Australia. UVA protection is important though, so with skin cancer risk so high in Australia I would stick with sunscreens that are approved as 50+ in Australia, which means you are getting at least a UVA protection factor of 20.

    I do love Paula's Choice products in general, with my favorites being the 2% BHA Liquid (HG) and the 5% AHA treatment. I also tested and enjoyed 2 of the antioxidant serums from the Resist line. Not particularly impressed with the 2% BHA Gel (I much prefer the liquid) or Resist BHA 9 treatment, nor the Niacinamide booster (too pricey, there are more affordably priced similar products out there). I'm curious about the peptide booster and the cleanser for oilier skin types.
    Have a great weekend, Dr Dray!

    Hi Dr. Dray -
    Hoping you may have a second to answer a quick question about 2 of the products.
    Looked up the MAELOVE spf & noticed it has 2-3 different forms of vit. c in it (mainly Ascorbyl Palmitate & ascorbic acid). Would you say those forms in particular in it would likely be irritating for someone with Rosacea?
    (I tolerate Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate pretty well if it’s helpful for reference.)
    My other question was, would you estimate that the PC salicylic acid spot treatment (or their Azelaic acid booster w/ S.A.) would be something someone with Rosacea should stay away from (in leave on form or wash form)?
    (Can’t say whether I still would or not, but at least back when my Rosacea was mild I used to use & tolerated the CeraVe SA Lotion very well but not sure if it compares.)
    Thanks so much in advance! Your content always helps me so much. :)

      it is because sunscreens are regulated as otc drugs, not cosmetics (as they are elsewhere) and so they require many years of data ...it is a procedural rule that is great in the majority of cases for otc drugs and they are not going to make exceptions

    I’ve tried a few of Paula’s Choice products and I can say they are not all great for me. Nothing bad happened to my skin it’s just a matter of how they feel on my skin. But at least I like the philosophy of the brand and they way they try to formulate their products. As a brand they try to cover as many skin types as possible as well so anybody can find products they like.

    I used PC's Resist line several years ago; I used to order it by the 'kit' when on sale. I enjoyed some products but I had to scale back to basics & am far better off with my cost-effective options now. I did recently pick up her tinted mineral sunscreen (& the powder for reapplication on the go) on sale (& 8% ebates). The tinted sunscreen (over my base layer of CeraVe spf) is beautiful but remained mildly tacky. The tinted powder for reapplication would be travel friendly & better for reapplying than nothing at all. I *do* like that the powder can be refilled & that the brush detaches easily for washing. Those 2 things alone, though, *on sale* were $67 to get to my door. That's not budget friendly for me but I did want to try them. Otherwise I'll stick with my CeraVe spf topped with minerals for iron oxide boost mixed with Honeyskin. The manuka honey & shea butter agree with my skin & it stays put. Blessings! In my continuous search for that perfect sunscreen (I've settled on EltaMD spf 46 Clear for now), I winded using up the Paula's Choice Defense Glow even though I didn't love it. It was just the easiest to use, no cast, worked well under make-up, and didn't irritate my skin. So Dr. Dray is on point with that, it's easy to use so I reached for it constantly. BUT, I'm also not sure I ever used enough either.

    Happy Wednesday! I think I'll continue with my basic products. I would like a pore product but I think I will focus on sunscreens and maybe a purchase for hyperpigmentation. I think you have to choose a product and use it for a while to get the benefits. If I switch between one product and another, I will not have an accurate opinion. But there are always products that tempt me a lot! I'm waiting for my supply of Cerave sunscreens to be finished! I may be tempted by other good products. Thank you for this interesting video!

I feel like I finally got it under control after a year and I haven’t used sunscreen, I’m very worried something new on my face will make it come back! With pd my skin has become very dry, so need a good sunscreen to try to help with that too!
    A recommendation on Sunscreen and a daily moisturizer with spf would be great! Thank you! Love your videos!
