The Phoenix Hawk is one of the most iconic looking BattleMech, probably because it actually is the VF-1S Super Valkyrie from Macross. It caused quite a bit of trouble for FASA, WizKids and CGL until our friends at PGI finally smacked Harmony Gold down.
An effective scout commander, the Phoenix Hawk has been around since the Reunification Wars, and been at the top of its game ever since with basic variants, LAM variants, heavier variant and lighter variants!

She's a classic, for sure. Not so fast it sacrifices firepower, not so slow it's easily picked off.
The PHawk is a great example of light mech design done well. It's inexpensive and sustainable to run. It has hands and a modular main gun in a pistol mount. You can switch that gun out fast. It's cheap. It's mobile and fast. It does exactly what you need a medium mech to do and does not trick you into thinking you can do more, which makes it special when you actually do.
Hello Prof.
The Phoenix Hawk has been a long beloved design for most players of the game. Especially those playing the 3025 era.
For myself, I do like several of the later era designs, although I do have to admit to the Mercenary's penchant to make alterations in Mech designs due to costs and combat efficiency required by a Mercenary Command.
I remember seeing one of the 6d’s getting a refit for a Re engineered large laser recently. The upgrade list was actually quite interesting for how simple it was, with it replacing the targeting computer with an actuator enhancement system on the large relaser arm, mounting a 270 LFE, and finally replacing 2 of the er mediums for 2 small X pulse lasers. It’s actually a pretty competitive design from what I can see.
Thanks for the video
I think the biggest failing of the LAM designs in general was trying to "force" humanoid designs into the role. Your chicken walker/bug mechs fit better, IMO - the Raven for example looks like a perfect LAM candidate. You can easily fit a Large Laser and Mediums or Mediums and an SRM4 and MGs.
One of my favorite mediums, pairing these up with things like the Shadow Hawk, Griffin, and Dervish is a hell of a cavalry lance
A fast and reliable if usually quit short ranged calvary/trooper mech. I'll fully admit that we Iron Wolves haven't been overly impressed with this almost princess of a mech, especially seeing as how they are so readily available and are often thrown in with other troopers to attempt to stop our break throughs in the preffery, and other medium defended worlds. When we first started.
But after we got to grips with some "friends" who actually knew what they were doing we very quickly learned to respect them. Especially when their are other lighter calvary and scouts that are vulnerable. Our second line forces, especially those who operate as "legitimate" mercenary companies, or our pirate vassals live these. Especially for raids, or high value assassination missions.
But for me personally they don't fit too well on the battle line, and with their specialized role bodyguard duty also doesn't fit them too well either. So it can be quite the learning curve for new pilots and up and coming commanders.
LAMs definitely needed a bit more refinement, or at least a little more thought if without technical development because there’s some useful design quirks you can do with mechs that you just can’t build into aerospace.
Also, the clantech the Bakeneko really needs are some ATM-3s instead of the MML-3s. Less utility (unless you somehow got ahold of the iATM version and its fancy ammo) but enough firepower to make an impact.
The 3pl and the c 2 are some of my favorites! For the price having a mobile super accurate pulse laser boat is amazing! I've taken out several assault mechs with these bad bois before! They are made of tissue paper tho and will crumble under any amount of fire so position well!
Love the Pixie.
Standard or LAM the Phoenix Hawk is one of my favorite lighter mechs of all time.
A design where dropping the MG Ammo to a half ton and adding 2 points of armor on each arm, 1 on the CT, and 3 on the head makes it vastly better
@@spencerjones841 That's a pretty good idea, I do like it.
Do I spot a LAM!? Hope I don't hear anything slanderous in the next 30 minutes...
The Phoenix Hawk L is like a discount Phoenix hawk. And I'm sure you can find lots of them in the clearance section at Discount Dan's 🙂.
@@lexington476 Worst thing about it is that it's not even cheap. You can get normal Phoenix Hawk on the cheap still.
