While most IIC designs are heavier than their inspiration, there's one very notable 'mech that went the other way. The Griffin IIC is a 40-tonner with 4 Clan LRM5s, an ER Large Laser in the CT, and an ER Small in the head.
I clicked the thumbs up, did you? I never understood why this IIC was almost 2 pheonix hawks in a trenchcoat for tonnage, but it really worked for them.
When I saw the PH iic it stood out as very wonky but I like wonky. Bought a couple ready to paint up for one-off clan formations. Seeing the iic 7 with that mobility it looks very dangerous, also love the second line mechs boxing above the weight of the first line mechs.
With Improved Jump Jets it doesn't actually build up much heat when jumping, since IJJs only build up half as much heat as regular jump jets to a minimum of 3 heat. Also, with a jump of 6 it can either get into cover or at least have a TMM of +4 with the jump bonus, so the fact that it is out-ranged by longer-ranged Mechs is less detrimental since the odds of actually hitting it at long-range aren't great.
Yeah, now that you mention it, it is. I misremembered, 7-9 is +3. Still a +3 TMM with the jump bonus on an assault Mech is nothing to turn your nose up at.
Although I don't claim it's an optimised design, I do have a soft spot for the standard Phoenix Hawk IIC. There's just something appealing about it charging up the field.
It would be amazing to see some of the other variants done! Or the Stormcrow A, which might be my favorite, or the Hellion. Getting the chance to vote for one of those would be awesome
I think that you'll be fine holding down the big red button. Why? You'll still be cooling off if you miss with one (or both) streaks (unless you jump). Only worry about the heat if you reach 6 pts or are jumping.
Gotta say really like this Variant of the Phoenix Hawk IIC , although I question the Streak ammo sitting in the head but as you say a crit in the head is trouble anyway . The ammo in the arm is actually cheesy as good design , you can lose an arm and what be an ER medium and some ammo down ? Hilarious Like this could have more firepower but as it is it's a great heavy reaction platform
I don’t get why this is a phoenix hawk, if I’m honest. The shadow-cat is a closer approximation of a better version of the phoenix hawk, in all but looks. This is nearly two phoenix hawks, or is that what the II (2) means??
According to the original TRO 3055 writers, this 'Mech was originally called the Matador and had nothing to do with the Phoenix Hawk at all. Presumably they had the name lying around spare and wanted to use it since the whole Harmony Gold thing was still a recent wound to the franchise. In my opinion, the Incubus Prime is secretly the 'real' Phoenix Hawk IIC. It sheds weight instead of adding it, just like the Griffin IIC and Shadow Hawk IIC, carries a large laser in a rifle mount, and has a mix of MGs and medium lasers for close-work. The curious omission of jump jets makes more sense when you recall that a lot of Clans just don't like jumping for whatever reason.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Clan Direct Fire Star, I believe. Same force pack as the Rifleman IIC, Grizzly(Not a IIC 'Mech), Highlander IIC, and the Bane(Not a IIC 'Mech). Clan Cavalry Star will have the Jenner IIC, Shadow Hawk IIC, Griffin IIC, Locust IIC, and Black Python(Not a IIC 'Mech). And both packs look to have great looking 'Mechs. That will leave Commando IIC, Wyvern IIC, Clint IIC, Urbanmech IIC, Guillotine IIC, Stinger IIC, Thunderbolt IIC, Viking IIC, Beowulf IIC, and Orion IIC for Clan 'Mech redesigns that need to be made(not counting prototype or apocryphal designs). Two full Stars worth left on the table.
Wish this model added 2 more MPL+1DHS instead of 2xSSRM4s. At least all weapons line up at 12 hexes with same to hit modifier and you only lose 2 overall dmg and more high dmg hits. Ah well, this is Battletech and you cant have optimized mechs now can you.

Shadow hawk iic is also lighter, at 45 tons

Hmmmm , nice addition to my Kell Hounds 😊
I love playing against Sea Fox players. Hand them a twenty and they'll just leave!
We have our priorities straight.
I need to make a BattleTech/Sea Fox themed “… but 20 bucks is 20 bucks” tshirt.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I'd buy that.
@@DeathfromAboveWargamingYou'd have my money. Provided shipping to the EU doesn't cost me 20 bucks or more.
You should show Thom the 10 variant of this mech: 2 ERLL, 6 ERML,... and a Hatchet. He will love that.

wait, isnt 6 movement +2, and becomes +3 because JJ?

Luv it! Always great videos, thank you Aaron & crew.
Thanks for watching!
You should check the MUL for the Republic onward. The Phoenix Hawk and the Warhammer IIC are available to almost everyone.
I expect this is a Randall mech. He is a huge Pheonix Hawk fan boi.
This def has fan boi written all over it.
Great video, as always. I never liked improved jump jets for the loss of weapon/armour space but hey, way better then mechanical jump boosters. lol

The base Phoenix Hawk IIC is nasty at punching holes in things. This variant needs to be run next to it. One punches holes while this seeks crits.
Aaron, thanks for doing these! I thoroughly enjoy them all. You guys are awesome 👌
Love it!!!
Great mech review, looking forward to more videos.

Another great analysis of a mech I have enjoyed using in solaris....it didn't win bit was fun to use :-)
Built a version with a RAC5c, an ATM12, and 4 Medium Pulse Lasers. Call 'er The Phoenix Hawk Tuah IIc! Hold my beer, LEEEEEEEROOOOOY JENKINS!!!!!!
It's what the Gargoyle has always wanted to be.
The weapons placement jokes basically make themselves.

Interesting to see how the Griffin IIC and Shadow Hawk IIC go when you get to them , those two break the IIC trend and shed tonnage .
Perhaps I will get these on the list!
I LIKE IT! I WANT IT!
Head ammo is "max cheese"? I mean it's less chessy than large pulse targeting comp spam right?
That is what we call “extra” cheese. Very different than “max” cheese but still cheese.
IIc 9? Dakka dakka with missiles!

@@subtlewhatssubtle thanks for the info!!!
We won't get a new mini of this with the Mercenaries Kickstarter, correct?
We will. It’s in the pack with all the IIC mechs.

Yea!!! That’s the one!
Does this test take into account the fact the streaks do not generate heat when they do not fire due to a miss?
In which part of the analysis?
