The Manticore is what comes to my mind when somebody asks me to describe a tank in Battletech, and is, in my opinion, the benchmark against which all other tanks in the game should be measured.
I remember a friend of mine looking at that artwork back in the 80s and asking me if it was a joke. He was an army vet and couldn't decide if he more amused or disgusted by the idea of a so-called tank built like that. Needless to say he never did get into BT, but it was more because of the absolutely ridiculous looking AFVs than an inability to suspend his disbelief where big stompy robots were involved. He could accept a fictitious mecha much more easily than (as he described it) a rolling shot trap like the Manticore. Still see him now and then. He's fun to get going on a rant about 40K vehicles. Can go on for hours. :)
The Manticore is a solid design. Fun fact: the 3026 version is actually better armed than the 3058 "upgrade." A large pulse laser is not a suitable replacement for a PPC.
@@brianalbrecht3914 - I do as well, but the way vehicles are constructed in Battletech, you would need to either downgrade or remove other weapon systems, remove armour or change the engine size to allow for the required additional heat sinks.
With the rang this tank has it can stand against a Behemoth or Demolisher. As long as it stays at 16 rang and away from the front slope of the Behemoth it can pound it with its PPC and LRM 10 pack. If it does get face to face the Behemoth has 4 LRM 5 packs that could s cripple it. The Demolisher just got to stay away from the AC 20's. Now it's the Gauss Demolisher you may want to runaway.
My very favoritr tabkt other than that weird iverhang in some of the art. And wasting tonnage on a medium laser and 3 heatsinks. Put another SRM6 and ton of ammo, ornjust a bunch more armor

You can one shot them in MechAssault with some scratch of the battle armor's claw.
