Visma dismantling Pogacar at the Col du Granon would be my motivation if I was Pogacar. Nobody felt sorry for him back then, nobody said the strongest team ever, with Sepp Kuss, Wout van Aert and TWO GC guys (Jonas and Roglic) was too strong and to take it easy. In fact, Visma publicly said they'd crack him and no one had an issue with them winning all three grand tours. I'd be even more ruthless if I was Pog, based on that memory alone, I wouldn't even let them win a stage if possible!

You know who the last person was to take 6 stages in one Tour? Mark Cavendish - 2009. He was celebrated and considered unstoppable. Eddy Merckx won 525 races in his career and was nicknamed "The Cannibal" for it. He is called "The GOAT". Jonas said he would have done the same thing. I think the media is making this more than it is. Let 'em race.
Im vingegaard fan but pogacar is like an anime protagonist to me. Just going hard everytime just because thats his philosphy and he wants the hard route. Telling him to do otherwise is disrespectful imo

UAE and Pogacar are the best in cycling at the moment and Nobody can fault them to go after the stage wins. But: UAE basically bought a super team with domestiques coming in 4th and 6th at this TDF. It really wasnt that exciting this year with only 3 real competitors with Vingegaard, Evenepoel and Roglic, all having major crashes before the tour. One can only hope that Visma and Red Bull ramp up their efforts or it will get boring very quickly. So Pogi, go win ten stages next time. It just isnt good for the sport in general. He is already the best cyclist in the world, how many more wins to rub it in?

From the beginning I didn’t see how most teams were going to challenge UAE, most of their riders had new coaches and improvements were visible from the start of the season, while other teams did not want to make changes Roglic really needs to start riding in the front of the peleton, not in the deep and dead centre, as he always gets caught up on crashes. No domestique can protect you there The most confusing team was INEOS, you just didn’t know what they wanted to achieve from the beginning; it was even difficult to figure out who the leader was Visma should not have brought in Jonas and Wout, they need good recovery. They had to opt for satellite riders to try to counter Pogacar’s attacks UAE’s strategy has been the same since the start of the season, I don’t know why others were arrogant enough to just trust in their own without counter measures Anyway, we really look forward to 2025, where hopefully, most top riders (and new heroes) would be fit

As it relates to other sports, no one ever made comments about Lionel Messi dominating for seasons or Tiger Woods and Roger Federer dominating for years in their respective sports. Tadej just dominated for this year’s tour. Next years tour might see Jonas, Remco or maybe someone else winning the tour! Doesn’t really seem rational!

Who are the idiots who think Pagacar is "greedy" for winning so many stages??? This isn't a pre-school competition where kids get participation trophies. This is the highest level cycling in the world, and if other riders want to win stages, they have to ride better and faster. BTW, there were 15 stages that other other riders won. Do these idiots think that football, basketball, baseball, etc team who are guaranteed league championships at the end of the season throw games to bad teams to make them feel better??? Ridiculous.
They sort of do 2nd and 3rd are participation awards then we have all rest like most combative, best young rider etc which tbh is probably unnecessary.

Do they hand out rewards in boxing matches after each round, or have a ceremony after each quarter in a football game, etc, etc??? Just have 1 overall award for winner of the race. And if the yellow jersey is also leading in king of the mountain, then the 2nd place king of the mountain rider wears the polka dot jersey, but that's in the rules. But, the point is, there are clear rules for the different awards, and nobody is "given" anything, they must be earned by performance (that's not considering internal team dynamics and overall race strategy)

First year of watching the Tour for me having rekindled my love of cycling. Just wanted to say thank you for doing these podcasts. They have been entertaining and informative, and felt very much like being down the pub with mates.
That Pogacar won the Giro & now the tour makes the sport very interesting again. These younger riders and their teams are both strategic & aggressive, and I like the energy!
By far the most engaging and enjoyable TDF coverage ever. It gave me the same buzz as Two Men 1 Bicycle daily updates. Now, what do I watch.. Please cover the Tour de Femme the same.

What worries me is that Tadej in the last time trial when he crosses the line, starts to celebrate immediately with his team mates. How can he not be out of breath? This means he did not go to his limit and could have driven faster. I can't wrap my head around that.

The level of athletic performance in cycling now does not compare to the days when guys won multiple Grand Tours in the same season! I am really struggling to believe in this. Bernal announced his performance numbers are better now than when he won the TDF! This sport has always been horses for courses, great climbers, great sprinters, great TT guys now we have riders who dominate in all disciplines! Does anybody not find that strange? I just find it difficult to believe an athlete could maintain peak level performance for months on end, there is a reason training is tailored to peak for an event but we are seeing guys maintaining peak performance levels for months on end? I really hope I am wrong but i am really struggling to believe what we are seeing here!!

Laterne shares a little bit more about a greater number of riders, but is less understanding of what is actually happening sometimes. Honestly, I do like both quite a bit and Cade as well.
Well done! I think we'll have an interesting tour next year(s) and I don't think that pog will be able to snatch so many stages at once. I mean, just imagine a tour with healthy and topfit Roglič, Pogačar, Vingegaard and Remco in the mix!
Anyone who has watched the doping stars of the tour over the last 20 years and who ever sat on a saddle and pushed themselves to the limits will realize Pogacar is taking some special morning cereal
I was with Jimmi on the TT. I was hoping for an exciting final week TT like we got between Roglic and Pogi in 2020. In the end it just ended up being a predictable stage after the podium was solidified in the mountains. Thank you for keeping up the daily podcasts! They've been amazing to follow, and refreshing in an age of overly technical or pretentions (looking at you Armstrong) race commentary. You bring the human element
Truly a memorable edition of Le Tour. Pog showed class by attacking and winning stages, rather than sitting back with his unbeatable lead and cruising it BG was epic, 3 stages and the green jersey. Cav. gets his record breaking 35 stage wins in Le Tour. (apparently some disgraced ex cyclist has been making adverse comments about Pog’s performance, based on his own perfidious past)
The question is not whether he is going to take Cavs record, the question is how many tours is it going to take. If he keeps taking 3 to 6 stages a year….
Ive watched bike racing for 30 years. In that time, Ive seen many exceptional performances. Every single one has turned out to be tainted. We will see over the next few years how this one turns out!
Let's remember that Jonas attacked his own GC in last year's Vuelta. I also don't recall Jonas slowing down when Tadej bonked in the previous year's TDF.

Eddy won 8 stages in a single Tour twice, 1970 and 1974. Two others have won 8 stages in a single Tour one time.

The level of athletic performance in cycling now does not compare to the days when guys won multiple Grand Tours in the same season! I am really struggling to believe in this. Bernal announced his performance numbers are better now than when he won the TDF! This sport has always been horses for courses, great climbers, great sprinters, great TT guys now we have riders who dominate in all disciplines! Does anybody not find that strange? I just find it difficult to believe an athlete could maintain peak level performance for months on end, there is a reason training is tailored to peak for an event but we are seeing guys maintaining peak performance levels for months on end? I really hope I am wrong but i am really struggling to believe what we are seeing here!!

@@davidbraddon-mitchell3152Gold standard for analysis? Is Horner too color commentary for you? I prefer his analysis even if I don't agree with every detail. Laterne shares a little bit more about a greater number of riders, but is less understanding of what is actually happening sometimes. Honestly, I do like both quite a bit and Cade as well.

Well done! I think we'll have an interesting tour next year(s) and I don't think that pog will be able to snatch so many stages at once. I mean, just imagine a tour with healthy and topfit Roglič, Pogačar, Vingegaard and Remco in the mix!

He's 13 years younger than Cav and "only" has 20 left to beat the record. He knows it's a realistic goal to set for himself

I was with Jimmi on the TT. I was hoping for an exciting final week TT like we got between Roglic and Pogi in 2020. In the end it just ended up being a predictable stage after the podium was solidified in the mountains.

Ive watched bike racing for 30 years. In that time, Ive seen many exceptional performances. Every single one has turned out to be tainted. We will see over the next few years how this one turns out!

Let's remember that Jonas attacked his own GC in last year's Vuelta. I also don't recall Jonas slowing down when Tadej bonked in the previous year's TDF.
But he waited for him after pogue fell. Do you think pogue woukd do the same?
