    Chess can be a brutal game. Play great for so long and one bad move can just ruin you so fast. This is the favorite part of my day so here are my notes.
    1. Blundering the pawn aside, which you did realize immediately, I thought the opening was pretty well done. Your pieces got developed to great squares and I thought after c3 in the 6 minute mark your position looked great. You spent some time calculating how to take advantage of the pin, but when you decided against that you spent 30 seconds between c3 and Re1. The move you made was a good one, but either move seemed interchangeable and thats just way too long to spend debating between two very simple moves.
    2. The next long think came after Qc7 at 9:53. You spent a minute and a half sliding your rook over to the half-open file. Your h pawn is defended, theres no pins, a slight discovered attack on your bishop, but that is defended by your knight. That move should almost be instinctive since it's your only piece that can still be improved. For context, on your opponents turn they spent 10 seconds getting their rook to their half open file the very next move.
    3. The following position is where things started to go downhill in my opinion. You do see your d pawn is pinned to your queen and you do see the threat of c5 which is great, but instead of moving your queen, you play b4. Now the engine says this is ok, but that pin is still there. Not only this, but it gave you a backward pawn on your c file which your opponent started to pressure at 14:15 with the great square for its Knight on d5. The d pawn is already defended four times, just slide your queen so you don't have to worry about that pin later in the game.
    4. Failing to move your queencame back to bite you after your opponent played b6 at 18:59, the pawn is pinned and the threat of c5 is happening. You see the threat, say the threat, say the move you're going to do to get out of the threat, but then you spend 88 percent of your time, yes I did the math, to do a different move which you didn't calculate at all and turns out to be a blunder/miss. This was a total of 8 moves where you just let your queen stay on the same rank as your opponents rook! Notice the pin and do something about it before it is too late.
    5. Going back to the blunder of Re3, I think this really encapsulates your weaknesses in rapid. You actually have a time advantage at this point and you think of the correct move but you start over complicating things. It is not longer a rapid game at this point its a blitz game, you can't spend 25 percent of your time on one move, much less 88. You even say to yourself you are running out of time, but then spend another minute when you have less than a minute and a half. You soon have ten seconds to your opponents 2 minutes and promptly blunder. I wanted to rip my hair out.
    Overall this was a very interesting game. There was small tunnel vision of trying to attack their h7 pawn. I understand you wanted to get your rook on the h file to try and mate but this is a one threat move and everything would have fizzled with basically any pawn move on the king side. You really have to be better with your time or else your kids will have to take up the mantle of trying to reach 2000. I still believe you will do it. You have great intuition and come up with some great ideas, but you can't seem to get out of your head. Keep on rocking those hats and keep on playing chess!

    Just a quick reminder that changing time controls sometimes work for me when tilted in rapid/blitz/bullet, so I just alternate between them after I tilt, helps a lot. Keep on the great work dude 💯

    I do exactly the same as you Patrick. Spend too long on middlegame moves that really at rapid need to be played more quickly. Someone said that in rapid it isn't always about calculating everything, it's about playing moves decisively and as long as you are not blundering or making massive mistakes, you'll give yourself a chance to not get into time trouble at the end (which is what lost you this game). Keep going and hopefully you'll get a win tomorrow 👍

      More “this move feels good” and less calculation, I think.

    The ultimate issue is time management again. Holding the pieces for 10-20 seconds before a number of moves has been killing him for a long time.

    Tough opponent that had a solid positional game. One of those games where over analysis during the game costs too much time. This is where knowing a bit more about good squares to improve pieces to would really help you.

    • @chesswithpatrick
      @chesswithpatrick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Stephen!! Yeah this is starting to become my biggest issue… need to make a move, maybe not the best, but just not a bad one.

    • @stephenwells1559
      @stephenwells1559 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @chesswithpatrick when you're stuck about what to do next, think less about big plans and where to attack. Just look at your pieces and see if any of them could be on a better square, where it's more in the game than currently.
      Your other issue is not considering what your opponents next move might be. Forget "if I do this, then this, then I can do this, then he will do that.....". Instead just if you were him what would you want to do next? Would that be a problem if he did? Should you prevent him from doing that? Can you stop him doing that next move?
      Think more of those two thoughts each move and you will progress

    You consistently analyse the wrong things, you look at good moves / blunders / mistakes
    BUT
    you are losing a LOT because you run out of time, you need to look at time per move and identify what kinds of moves you are spending too much time on as this rather than bad moves is losing you the majority or at least significant number of games.

    • @chesswithpatrick
      @chesswithpatrick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I like this suggestion thanks Steve I’ll try to remember that during the analysis! 😊 thank you so much for the continued support!

    • @jamonh
      @jamonh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I don’t see your extensive analysis usually changing your mind on your initial moves. Especially more obvious ones like centralizing your rooks, which could be made fairly quickly.

    You may not have the best time management but if theres one thing that cant be said, its that you dont have backwards hat game

    chin up buddy. you'll learn from this one. keep in mind that at this level you are likely to get a blunder or big mistake from your opponent.

    That was alright, I mean most of the comments like "blah blah painful to watch" but this is the first time I've seen you use this line though I've seen other chess players use it and I have to say not bad..... It's called the classical variation once knight takes e4 and black moves bishop f5 to attack your knight then it's supposed to go knight g3 bishop g6 pawn h4 pawn h6 1 knight to f3 but you didn't go there

    I think you pull off the backward hat look just fine. He probably knew you would play the Caro Kann. Or you could play Re1 taking the open file.
    So, if he takes the knight just take with the rook pawn. You should mobilize all your pieces prior to launching an attack. Although Ne5 was ok, you immediately go into your take, take, take as your rooks sit on their original squares. squandering any advantage you had.
    Bh4 to get to g3 countering the queen, you knight wants to go to g5. meanwhile you are weakening your queenside instead of defending your kingside. The position is even at this point. a3 was bad, a4 was better, stopping b5, which he did not play. Now you
    have a backward pawn on an open file with your queen behind it. Black is playing inferior moves at this point,
    Qh3 or f3 is fine too, I suppose, or maybe better. (yes, it was a lot better, at first, I just saw Qh3).
    But instead, you blundered. Re3, which was bad but then Qf5, oh well.
    Analysis: Qf3 was the move and you saw it but played the lame Re3, why? Forcing moves, plus your queen is on the same file as your opponent's rook, red lights should be flashing in your head, get your queen off of that file. Then in the analysis line the knight is going to c6 which is crushing as it attacks both the rook and bishop, and yes you have the passed pawn. It is after all displayed in your computer line winning +2.13. At 27:19.
    So, a well-played game where you just missed some critical ideas, though you saw them, Qf3. so that is a plus.
    As an aside I think you want to create luft before rook lifts off the back rank.
    At 28:34 what should white play, the best move, what is it? White might still draw at this point.

    You played a dull opponent who didn’t try to attack and just sat back and watched you run out of time. You let them do this to you. You could try this tactic the next time you play the Caro Kann although you might lose some subscribers😊
