Playing a bit too quickly today.

This is a perfect example of how lower rated players get MUCH less effective with fewer pieces on the board.

Hey Patrick, I think you’re getting a bit too focused on your moves and not paying enough attention to how the board changes after. You’ve got to watch the lines of attack like diagonals, ranks, files, and squares. In that last game, it was really obvious the bishop was lined up on your rook. You had time to see it, but it felt like you were playing blitz. Try playing a few games with just one goal: don’t blunder. Don’t worry about losing on time, just focus on keeping everything safe. Yesterday’s game was a good example. You even said you wanted to keep everything safe, but then blundered because you didn’t take the time to look at the position and notice your rook was hanging. Maybe try 15|10 so you don’t feel rushed. What I’m suggesting isn’t hard. It just takes patience to stop for five seconds and really look at the board. That’s all! Just look! What is each piece attacking? Where are they aiming? It’s not hard to take a moment to look and see what’s happening. Before you make a move, double-check and triple-check that nothing’s hanging. Slow down, sit on your hands, and think. Keep it up!

To the folks who claim the opponent was likely a smurf, cheater, bot, whatever: guys, it's a single 20 move game. It's not that hard to have a high accuracy game once in a while if your opponent blunders early in the game, the correct follow-up is findable and then the opponent immediately resigns. Does everyone need to be suspected of cheating nowadays? Past results on the account show no indication that this isn't just a 1500 who had a good game.

Said it before and I'll say it again: discard the match rating (07:08). A 2050 doesn't generally throw the game in 18 moves after missing that an entire rook is hanging. A 2050 also doesn't generally blunder another piece two moves later to a tactic like that. The match rating is simply not an accurate metric to assess at what level you played. If 2050's frequently blundered like this, everyone would be 800 elo higher.

You both played like it was a blitz game instead of a game that can practically go on forever with proper time management. Bit odd, didn't serve you well. :(

Speed at which the opponent was moving makes me feel like this wasn't a real opponent.

Bad luck not realizing there was no increment, but worse luck for your opening mouse slipping. It would have been reasonable to offer a draw there.

i dont think you are going to reach 2000 rating. Put a realistic goal. 1700 rating you can reach it within 5 years.
