Long time B-52’s fan but recently “rediscovered” them and am hearing so many more layers to their sound. The difference between listening as a middle aged adult than as a “grown up” teenage, I guess. Why did I ever stop listening?
I have been watching B52 videos for about an hour and they continue to intrigue me. I remember Rock Lobster and Roam from way back and I did not realize there was so much more to b52's music.
When I asked my parents where they got my name, they said it was from James Dean and the character played by Mel Gibson in the movie Lethal Weapon... But after seeing this music video, I realized I am probably an Inter-dimentional outerspace being. Hahaha
It's from the book 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac. Dean Moriarty is the name given to the character of Neal Cassidy. Neal drove the bus for the Merry Pranksters. Many songs by the B52s are about the Beats and their adventures.

I agree. Where is that joy, sillyness, drive and power without aggression or darkness? I miss those creative lyrics that are fun to "interpret", when you are loop-listening and starting to know that song by heart. In that case it's pretty difficult - those voices and minds are unique! But taking inspiration from here could benefit today's music a lot. Listening to the B's it's like anything could happen, but nothing boring or cheap :)

I can normally appreciate their humor, but I kinda wish they had played this one straighter. It’s maybe their most powerful moment musically but it’s undermined (imo) by the silliness. “The Happening” by the Pixies has a similar feel but it’s fully sincere, and that helps it reach its full emotional potential. These guys wrote Roam, so I know they can do sincere...
