    Pro tip: There comes an extra blank Tech Token shaped piece that can be homebrewed.
    I was thinking that the Bidding Phase could be used (following a logic where the 3 tech tokens refer to phases where economy factions get their spice).
    So my homebrew token is Niche Commodities, owned by Richese at the start. You get spice if someone other than the Emperor buys a card (a bit boring but simple).

    Hey, Jack! Stumbled across your Dune videos and have been duly impressed with the clear and thorough way you explain how the expansions work. My game group has been deep-diving into Dune, playing with Advanced rules. Your vids are very timely and super helpful! Keep 'em coming and we'll keep making them 'Required Viewing'. ;)

    Is the tech token limited to 1 spice per turn or per player? Example: If I owned the Heighliners token, do I get 1 spice per faction (besides space guild) that shipped that turn or 1 spice that turn regardless if 4 other factions shipped that turn? I know each token increases how much you get, but I am still a little confused on 1 spice max per turn or 1 spice per faction that met the criteria. Please let me know!

      Tech tokens do not trigger multiple times. Once per game turn at the most. If you only have 1 token you will earn 1 spice that turn max if it triggers at all.

    One of the many reasons why I think that the GF9 version is the BEST Dune board game ever made... even better than the original.
    I think that tech tokens are amazing additions for the game.
    The game is a lot faster with them, and they are a really good boost for the player who have them.
    They are just perfect.

      Hoping to one day add a little extra sumsum to this variant.

    We enjoy using the tech tokens and playing with the expansion factions. If you ever need testers let me know, we play dune often and would be happy to test new factions! One idea is the Swordmasters of Ginaz

    This changes the little starting trick for Fremen a bit. As Fremen - having only 3 spice at the beginning - you can make a deal to give your 3 spice for the return of 2 spice from another player. E.g. Harkonnen places two spice in front of your shield and you place your 3 spice in front of theirs.
    This leaves you with zero spice allowing you to collect CHOAM charity.
    Since you now own the Spice Production Tech Token at start of the game you get an extra spice, bringing you back to 3 for the bidding phase.
    Does this slightly reduce the likelyhood of a another player agreeing to this kind of deal? Harkonnen only get the 3 spice from the deal at the end of the round. Harkonnen invested 2 spice for the prospect of 3 at the cost of entering the auction with only 8 spice instead of 10.
    But on topic: I like Tech Tokens very much and we use them all the time now. They are a great addition to the game. Its a little more dynamic now and reduces guild stalling and default win scenarios quite a bit, which is a good thing.

      I have seen a couple variations on this bribery scenario, which I think is fine- but it will depend on starting cards for some ambitious factions who are tempted to go for it early, or are worried someone else might. I as Harkonnen want all 10 of my spice on turn 1, to see if I can win two auctions. If there is spice I can move to from Carthag, all the better. But other factions- or players - may have a different calculus. It’s all good.

      Or the Fremen play a turn one Amul and collect Choam Charity, earning the one from the Tech and are back up to their starting total while everyone else has half their starting spice.

    Hi Jack, what is your opinion on the alternative tech token: Instead of getting spice when someone takes CHOAM charity, you receive spice when somebody harvests spice? It seems a popular variant on the Dune discord server i play on

  • @fan-i-am
    @fan-i-am ปีที่แล้ว

    My thoughts/idea: I like the little boost/benefit for the Fremen with the Spice Production token, since the whole reason why the advanced rules exist is to help the Fremen have a better balanced footing military-wise. (paying spice to empower ur troops in battle & double spice blow)
    But I, and a lot of others, find those rules a little bit math crunchy and makes spice not so rare. So we just play advanced rules WITHOUT double spice blow or spiced up combat.
    My idea: while the Fremen, and ONLY the Fremen, have control of the Spice Production token, each of their troops are worth 1.5 times their combat value! (as if they were spiced up) If this proves to be too overpowered then that is the only benefit it give the Fremen, whereas anyone else who has the token would get the normal extra spice bonus.
    What do you think @jackredathewarp ?

    • @jackredathewarp

      @@jackredathewarp No spiced-up combat will affect the CHOAM player if that faction is playing, since all spice to "empower" ur troops go to them. But I'm sure an alternative can be thought of. Like, whenever a leader is killed in combat the CHOAM player gets 2 spice. something like that

    Hey, Jack. Our friend group had a question about what happens in an alliance. If one ally has 2 tech tokens and the other ally has thw remaining one, do they still count as a stronghold or one player has to hold them?

    • @jackredathewarp
      @jackredathewarp  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@savvastsiagas6460 the normal rule is one player must have all 3 to count as a stronghold. But a good variant for speeding up the game is to allow two players controlling 3 to count it.

  • @Guyinkgo

    I agree with what the other posters say about them. But I think it is really hard to keep these tokens. Maybe include 1 more, so the likelihood of having 3 increases and also being able to have a "backup" in case you lose 1 fight. I also think it is a great (but still not overwhelming) source of "passive" income. If you would have 5 tokens in play, there you would probably have too much constant back and forth between 2 players for controlling the third tech token, which would maybe create its own kind of parallel minigame, which is not the goal, I think. But yeah, I would like to see one more. What are the swordmasters of Ghinzeh doing? I honestly have no idea. 😅

    Hi Jack, had this problem occur in a game, I was the Ix and I was fighting the fremen turn 2 inside of a 3 player game. I called traitor on stilgar, and fremen called traitor on my 4 power leader. Who does the tech token go to? The double traitor event states that both parties are considered losers just like a lazgun shield explosion, who obtains this token? If I am not mistaken, the winner of the fight takes the token, what if there are no winners? In our game we ruled that instead of no one gaining the token, we just gave it to the harkonen (the third player) and they won the game because of it.

    • @jackredathewarp

      No winner means no change of possession.
