Amen. So very sorry for your loss. I knew him from maybe 1987. We had an instant connection. Our friendship was just beginning really, when he passed. Our last words were love yous. These reaction videos bring me such comfort and joy knowing Stevie is aware of all this love still coming his way. Hugs ❤Donna G

I agree 100%!!! But u know...In the beginning, he was a guitar player. He became a singer out of necessity when Lou Ann left the band. Then after picking their jaws off the floor from hearing him play, they dropped again but not before someone exclaimed "He can sing too!?? Then it hit home for Stevie that he might be that entire package that some record promoter or manager was jaw jackin' about a while back. "Hey, I can sing! Ha haaa!" So after his gigs he did a very smart thing. He went to a friend by the name of Angela Strehle a torchy blues specialist herself, to help him hone up his "new found" talent & coach out that natural & suprising but seriously sexy vibrato! And...wait for it.......the rest is history!

in the 80's when punk and hair bands ruled the day, Stevie was playing the blues because he loved it. He had loved it from when he first picked up a guitar. He never sold out when handlers tried to get him to change . They didn't realize how many people would come to love the blues Because of Stevie. So much love and respect for the man.

I'm 86 years old and I've been listening to and loving the blues since I was a teenager. I got introduced to blues listening to Gene Nobles late at night on WLAC in Nashville where I grew up. He played some blues along with boogie. There is something undefinable about SRV, it is as if he is from another realm, no one, and nothing approaches his genius. It is difficult for me to listen to him now because I keep thinking how he was taken away from us. I can't find a way to stop the tears welling up in my eyes every time I listen to hm. Thank you, Stevie for the wonderful gifts you left for us.

God graced us with SRV for a few short years & then called him Home. When he played, he went to a special place & invited us to go on journey with him! In the words of Eric Clapton "...He was like an open channel & the music just flowed through him...He never seemed to dry up or wonder where was going to go..." Bonnie Raitt " The thing I remember most about Stevie was his PASSION for the Blues...I cut my chops touring with Buddy Guy & heard about this 'kid' who was tearing up the Blues & had to see him...He blew me away & we became good friends!"

When you hear the version with Johnny Copeland, Stevie sings Tin Pan Alley from an outsider looking in and Johnny sings from an insider perspective. Stevie has several guitars. In one performance, a string broke on his guitar, someone brought him a 2nd guitar and he never missed a beat! The man was the GOAT!

    • @pamelagarcia2653
      @pamelagarcia2653 ปีที่แล้ว +3

String busting had become his iconic trademark. Heck, watching him break strings, keep on playing, make his cool & casual side look to his guitar tech & never miss a beat or a verse as the fresh one is attached, (by René Martinez another master of his craft!) that alone is jaw dropping entertainment. It also attests to the skill of THE MASTER & in case u didn't know what the crown on his hat was for! I love u SRV, u will always be my mini maestro with a big awesome sound from your heart & a big sweet smile on your face!💙

'NUMBER 1' was there too. He's just playing this one right now! Stevie has a few guitars that travel with him & he cycles through them as needed when he plays depending on situations, broken strings in the middle of performing, etc!

Someone suggested that this is a Mississippi blues. For the record, Tin Pan Alley was a real place in New York City on 28th Street. The block between 5th and 6th Bas housed a collection of songwriters that pumped out much of the popular music that dominated the scenes of the late 1800s through the 1920s or so. This song was written by Bob Geddins and recorded by Jimmy Wilson during the early 50s. Geddins and Wilson were both West Coast bluesman out of San Francisco, though Geddins was from Texas and Wilson from New Orleans, originally. Now y'all know. God bless SRV, and everyone here helping keep the music alive

Stevie Ray Vaughan owned a lot of guitars. The guitar he is playing here is a Hamiltone Lurktamer Stratocaster, a custom Stratocaster-style guitar made for especially for Stevie. The old beat-up looking guitar he frequently played is a 1962/63 Fender Stratocaster affectionately called "Number One".

incredible. Like Jimi who thought he couldn’t sing and did his vocal recordings behind a screen. He’s so good. So expressive. The beat up one is Number One. I think this one was called the Main. White is Charly named after the guy he bought guitars from. Charly died of a heart attack. Stevie actually had several guitars. The one you are most familiar with is called "Number 1" and is his main bitch. He does use others for specific songs though. He had a guitar called Lenny that his wife gave to him that he used to play the song also named after her. The guitar in this video was given to him by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

About the guitars: he uses almost only Fender Strats through his whole career with very few exceptions, the one you saw in the Austin City Limits (Voodoo, Mary Had..) performances is called "number 1", is a '63 strat he's purchased in 1975, and has been the main guitar he played throughout his career, as you can see from the its conditions. The one in this video is a guitar no other than Billy Gibbons gifted him as an omage, in '84, but from '87 he hardy ever use it live. You can find almost all about his gears as it is well documented from various pages, and as the legend that surrounds him, his gears and instruments are almost a cult to know all about, as in many other cases, between guitarist.
Have a nice one there mate, keep it up! :)

He had a few guitars. SRV being his main, replaced the neck a few times. At shows he would play so hard he broke strings & would do guitar changes mid song without skipping a beat. At least 2 shows I attended he had a rack of guitars and would play a song while being handed all the guitars off the rack going from one to the next playing smoothe and steady. I miss him so much.

The one your talking about is named Lenny after his ex-wife and friends bought for his birthday when he couldn't afford to buy it. He had many guitars 🎸 and would charge depending on the sound he wanted. Sometimes even charge mid show if he felt the sound wasn't right or for a broken string which he did in Look Little Sister.

You need to check out Jeff Healey also. He was a blind guitarist /singer. Played the guitar flat on his lap. He did play with Stevie. Check out little sister with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Healey. It's amazing!!!

I've watched him play in the studio, in the bars. At the Armadillo World Headquarters at the Roam Inn on Blue Monday Soap Creek Saloon. Late night he would come by my place for shelter from the storm 🤠💕

That's "Hamiltone" he's using in this video. This looks like after he changed the amber colored knobs. There's a whole list of his different guitars he used. There's a whole page dedicated to them. It's a beautiful thing.

    Some SRV facts:
He was what we would call a child prodigy. He was playing very difficult pieces of music by the time he was 13 years old, such as covering some Chet Atkins songs. The blues was sorta considered a way of life back then, which meant drinking at dive bars and playing blues through and through to be the quintessential "Blues Man". this led him to becoming an alcoholic in his life and finding cocaine. He became such an addict that he would dissolve an 8-ball of coke in his morning whisky as a pick-me-up every day. He almost died from his partying. This event would lead him to turn his life around and become sober before he died in a helicopter crash. As I understand it, He swapped places with Eric Clapton to get onto the helicopter. A rookie pilot in a foggy night flew it directly into a hillside. The saddest day in music history in my opinion.
He was beyond being amazing at the guitar. he was a pure conduit for his soul to express itself when playing the guitar.
check out Lenny, and Rivera Paradise by him.

SRV had 3 or 4 guitars that he normally played. This one is a Hamilton that was custom made for him. You don't see him playing this one very much. Usually when he was playing something besides his beat up #One, that was previously owned by Christopher Cross, is because his tech was putting new strings on it or repairing it.

Delta Blues... Every now and then he'll break a string and have another one on standby... he also has a white one he plays... "Look At Little Sister" he breaks a string and switches during the song and doesn't miss a lick...

You should always watch Stevie live or you'll miss out on so much..I too agree with the others that you have to watch the version with Johnny Copeland...can you please add to the list : Ain't Gon Give Up On Love and Change It..both live from Capitol Theatre? 💞✌️🙏
I read in one of his books that he said...I'm a guitar player that has to sing...he was not comfortable with singing in the beginning
