The 2022 Yamaha R7 is HERE! Track TEST!!

- Yamaha just released their, brand new for 2022 R7, and I was lucky enough to get to attend the press launch out at Atlanta Motorsport Park. This new model isn't a new version of the R7 they had in their lineup back in the day, but rather a totally new model that is supposed to give the looks of their R line but the functionality on road of their CP2 engine that is found in their very popular MT07. Let's put some laps down on the track with the R7 and see how this thing does!

People gotta stop comparing the R7 to R6 the only same thing is the R in the name. Apples to oranges two different platforms.
shouldn't have called it an R7 then, it's disgraceful to the R badge and the true R7 predecessor. MT07-R, maybe? things not even cranking out 100 ponies.
@@skippypeanutbutter9136 oh yeah MT07-R is totally more marketable and better sounding than R7...you should be in charge of things over at Yamaha. absolute genius man
Not true at all, the R7 basically lifted all it's suspension, brakes and componentry from the R6 save for the engine. This really is an R6 with an MT07 engine rather than a fully faired MT07
@@butt5810 it actually does.. if I didn’t know anything about bikes and someone asked me what I’d ride and gave me those two options, I’d pick a MT07-R over a R7 lol
@@butt5810 thanks, grandpa. Yeah let the R name do the heavy lifting for a bike that doesn't aspire to it's own legacy. There are yamaha purists, developers and engineers wringing their own hands right now at the decisions made by self-congratulatory marketing dopes like yourself. "we watered down our own brand, hooray for us"
OC: You almost can’t tell the difference between the C2W camera car shots and Yamahas.
This why I love your channel. There some motovloggers that do stupid and pointless stunts like riding without grabbing the handlebars or riding sitting on one side of the bike just to try to look cool on yt, but you, you ride within your limits and you're not afraid to admit when that one turn scared you. That's cool.
I missed the part where you say you’re 5’10” and you can flat foot.
Also, no glass door reference for seating position.
Updates are required.
Haha he says that all the time
hahaha that will all come in our regular first ride that we will do of the bike as well as all our camera car shots!
R6 for the heart
R7 for the look
People were giving it some hate since how the bike is. It looks amazing specially the black colour. Hate it or love it this bike got everyone talking. Even the haters are clicking the reviews as soon as it drops lol. Thats what a yamaha does to the biking community. Great video really enjoyed it.
I am literally in love with how the bike looks like its soooo beautiful.
Watching you test that motorcycle made me feel like i was watching slow motion! Give the boys what they are looking for next time!
Lol
For that he needs to get fit first. Plus if you haven't been on track for a long time, then you're out of your comfort zone.
Which was clearly visible in this video.
However it was still more dynamic than any street review he does, and the footage was top notch as always.
R6 is still in my heart.
Not dissing Chase at all, but it's refreshing to see someone with approximately my riding ability on track for a press launch.
I particularly love MT07 but did not like this one. I think 4 cylinder matches more with sport bikes.
This has nothing with R6.
@@CptSlow89 it should be in a different class....its not really an R series...It should have been called an RT7
R6 didn't meet euro specs and was not selling. The 600 class is dying like the 750's did to be replaced by supertwins
3 cylinde👌
Finally a great review of R7! All the other reviews were just bashing on it before they even rode one. No it's not an R6, I get that. I had a Ducati Monster 1200 that had great linear power for commuting and joyrides on twisty roads. But I never used all it's power and finally couldn't justify the payment for how much I rode it. So recently traded it for a truck to haul my dual sport to far places. lol I'm not a track guy either. Now the R7 at it's price point is interesting...new it's the price of a nice dirt bike. With linear power and 73hp I am totally interested will be checking them out when they hit dealerships. Thanks Chase!
Couldn't agree more
Damn, not looking very comfortable out there on the track. Appreciate the video anyway, seems like a capable little bike.
Wow you said it perfectly, the r6 is a track bike that you can ride on the road (kinda) and the r7 is a road bike that you can ride on the track. Perfect mix between super, sport, and touring in my opinion and is a bike I would 100% consider getting. I always wanted the looks of a supersport with the agile, peppy feeling of an mt07.
You should do more track riding Chase!👊🏻😎
Yamaha really know how to design their bikes 🤤🤤
Never clicked so damn fast, real review thanks so much, even though i will never be able to own even Yamaha R15 version 3
work your butt off.. & one day you will own it.. heck, you can even go for the r1.. don't play yourself dude.. believe & you may see👍🏻👍🏻 work hard, play hard.. that is the motto
Can't wait to see more on this bike! I loved my old MT07, it was just let down by its soft suspension and brakes. For the street you didnt need much more power than that. Having a factory quickshifter for it is such a great idea too. It was the best mod I ever did on my MT. Even beat the dyno tune and full exhaust
The R7 looks sick AF. Love it....
I'm not going to lie, it does look good but everybody knows what it is. An MT07. Bring back the four cylinder super sports
They still make the R6 don’t they?
Negative. Discontinued as of 2020
@@jessaphillips2846 Yes, they make it.

Finally a good review without just looking at the bike
for 650's footage I heard his voice in my head saying "guy's we are gonna take it easy with this bike, don't want to crash it"
Thank you for your slow laps, I could make a cup of tea in the middle...🤣
I've ridden 130kms on an mt07 yesterday. That engine is fantastic on these light bikes. You don't feel the need for more power (and i usually ride a liter bike). The CP2 is more than enough on the road, where you won't open the throttle more than 30/50% most of the time anyway. I'm sure this r7 will be fun.
If there is a person I trust to absolutely deliver, it's Chase. Let's go!
Agreed
Thanks for showing us man! It's dope you get to see these day 1 and have a go. I heard it was an MT-07 with street fairings.
AMP is the hidden jewel of GA! I'm lucky to live within 10 miles of the track.
Sounds like you need to get some more track days in! I'd love to see you do Yamaha Champ School.
I totally agree. It's been about 4 years since I did a track day. I'd love the opportunity.
I second this! @Chaseontwowheels it would be super rad for you to go. Changed my riding life for sure.
quickshifter is aggressive because you're not full throttle. the QS should be used when you're WOT, not 1/4 throttle.
Beautiful bike. Nice job, Yamaha. And Why are all these people hating on these new Yamaha headlamps?!! They’re badass, NOT halogen, and are going to become the new standard for bikes. Get used to them, folks… projectors are here to stay!
Just got a brand new r7 and I’m in love with it . Can’t beat the price or the look on it .
Stock pipes are so quiet 🤣
Still not sure how I feel about them naming it the R7
It’s a half R6 , so quiet and powerless 😒
I don’t like it being named the R7. It’s a great bike but needed a different name.
Why defame the great R7 with this
No one like SX 750 or TX 750 and bump it up to a full 750cc.
@@troubleship6064 Before this bike I'd never even HEARD of the R7....So it's not that great. Obscure is more the word you're looking for irrelevant maybe.
hehe, now we wait for the R9 with the cp3
Would that be a Ducati V2 competitor or am I off there? What class what that be in?
That is a bike I would buy!
I hope so! Kind of disappointed with the r7
I dont think they'd do that since they have the R1, wouldn't make since to have two 1000cc supersports.Supersport. And that crossplane ain't going anywhere anytime soon.
@@JustJesseOfficial Actually the r9 would be around 120 hp, so it could be a great substitute for the r6, considering that the r1 makes around 200 hp
I own an MT07 and I don't really think the track will do this engine justice. On the street, the thing is a complete animal.
Your tracking shots are way better! Higher resolution, steady and smooth! Great review bro!
at first i was weirded out by the looks and engine combo, i thought it wanted to be an R6. but i think i get it now.
The MT-07 is super fun to ride and can hit 200kph which is enough for the road. but it lacks the ease of going fast through corners. This bike gives you that! the ergonomics of a sportbike with the midrange power. Yes if you want power get an R6 or even an R1, but those bikes are just a bit too much to go to red line with it. This bike is like a little underpowered, but that means that when you go fast on the streets, you get to go high in revs, shift a bit more, and have more fun with it for a lesser price!
You hear about older riders saying they like riding a 400cc bike, just because its light and you can really work everything it has. this bike is that with some more "oomph" i bet that if you take this and put some money in it for some ohlins suspension you can really set this up to have a great track bike for under 10k.
Also a great platform to have like R7 races for stock racing.
I'm an older rider and the most fun I ever had on a bike on the back roads was my 94 fzr600. It was very narrow between my knees and the 150 series rear tire made it really flickable through the turns. This r7 is in a similar power range ( I think the fzr had 85 hp ) so I would like to get a test ride.
I think Yamaha is going to sell a bajillion of these. Honestly, it was nice to see/hear some average track footage without the non-stop spec sheet reading everyone else does.
They already sold all their pre order sales of the r7 !
Bro that balck R7 In the beginning is 🔥
What a freaking beautiful bike! Your camera shots do good justice to the bikes aesthetic appeal!
Im glad they came out with this bike I think it would be great for heavily crowded areas
The best tail light I've ever seen just godly
Here's my problem, discontinuing the R6. I have heard many statements, one in particular is that the R6 was dead anyway, whether or not the R7 was coming . Which I don't believe. The R6 and any other 600cc class bikes are well desirable in the market, especially for the casual street rider. Whether it's just a 600cc lover to a novice rider stepping up to the supersport world, 600cc bikes are affordable, packed with lots of fun and experience to gain. Yamaha now only has the R1 in the supersport class. I am not going to argue whether or not an R1 is the best option for inexperience riders, I want to look at the price point to get a supersport from Yamaha. the 2020 R1 MSRP is 17,399. I'm sorry but the average Joe isn't going to be dishing out that kind of money for a Supersport. This is where the 600cc class bikes shine. The Affordability. Yamaha has just cut out a big percentage out of their market by ending the R6. To add insult to injury, they come out with a bike that looks like a supersport, but is not a supersport? Why? I'm also telling you right now MT-07 riders like naked/street fighter bikes, the design, the looks. they don't feel so much of the Superport look, the feel or the ride. The R7 might be a contender with say like the Ninja 400, a bike that is well known for track days. I don't mind the R7, but ending the R6 for whatever reason then to add the R7 is a problem, the R6 and R7 both could of co existed in the Yamaha line up, and I feel would make more sense to do, having both. Looks like Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki have opportunity to pull some of the market their way.
Been riding 8yrs and currently on a V2. Going to start tracking and looking for a dedicated track bike. It’s between the R3, Ninja 400 and possibly the R7.
Production Quality is getting Bananas Chase!
The more and more I read and watch on the R7, the more and more I want one. I've called every dealership in Virginia and NO ONE knows or has a delivery date on this bike. I think finding them is going to be the hard part.
Yep, dealership in Ukraine doesn't give any dates either, so probably it will be available at late autumn or winter
@@grumpy_cat1337 So I just stopped by my local dealership and spoke with the sales manager yesterday (May 26, 2021) Yamaha rep called them that morning and they're getting three. Two blues, one black should be there mid July 2021, I put a deposit down.
I find your comment of the new R7 being "a road bike that you can take to the track" interesting. Thanks for the review!
Yamaha finally realized 98% of their riders can't ride worth a crap so they built a bike accordingly
Looks amazing! Can't wait to ride it!
Man such a damn great reviewer you are ! You earned my sub.
If you liked this video you should definitely check out our First Ride series.
I have already began binge watching them , you do a really great job , just excited for your CBR 1000 RR Street fighter build's completion.
And i supposd you will choose the Superduke over the Hyprrmotard right?
I own an aprillia RSV4
, a Ducati Hyprrmotard, and now looking for the third one ,because the correct number of bikes is always N+1 (N being the current owned number of bikes)😃😂😂
I own an ol’ YZF750 and as much as we love seeing an r7 again, we want a powerhouse 700. Do the name justice!!
Now please bring a supermotard with the 700 engine Yamaha!
Dude YES - a lower-power alternative to the Hypermotard would be money
That's the real MVP but they just won't do that...
That would be lovely
@@natechatigny7107 More like a 690/701 competitor but cheaper and reliable!
That would actually be pretty sweet. But I’m not liking this bike at all. They should’ve done a new “R” bike using the MT09 engine, would’ve made more sense in my opinion but probably wouldn’t work out real good for the European market due to their licensing system
Yamaha, please give Chase an R7 to ride on the streets. I’m so excited for that video.
Insane. I want to test ride one 😳
73hp so it’s more like the ninja 650 and mt-07 etc and Honda cbr650
Never been a fan of bigger capacity bikes with low power just get a ninja 300 or R3 to start ? Then get a full blown bike 👍👍
It is a faired mt07
This bike does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, it is a full blown bike 😂 Jesus how much horsepower do y’all need, I hope I never become a speed addict like y’all. Seems like it takes the genuine joy out of riding a bike. This bike will beat 90% of the cars on the road
@@Motoplugg strange market tbh why spend 7k on that it’s the same with the z650 etc when a z900 and mt09 are 8-9k (I paid 8600 for a z900 with the performance pack), the r7/ mt07 and 650 ranges are parallel twins and can tell, the extra 2k or so gets you a lot more bike.
Mainly people only buy the mt07 etc when they don’t have a full licence and have to run at a restricted power to weight ratio and this is an option to restrict via the ecu (A2 licence), it’s cheaper to buy an r3 or something for a year and then do full test and then spend the money on something a little bigger and not as restricted on power.
Looks great! But with owning an 07 Id prob go with a second hand r6! 🤘
Nice video. Refreshing to see someone NOT lead with "R6 replacement!", missing the point entirely. The fun factor is what it is all about, which is derived from a friendly chassis and the accessibility of the power. Nice work
Asked my dealer about this bike today. He said Yamaha opened up their pre-order system when all the west coast dealerships were still closed, and the east coast dealerships snapped up all the available first run bikes.
I miss motorcycle rides during this lockdown.
it does look like a small bike. I think i would like it, but as a former r6 owner, i just don't know. probably stick to the MT-07 since i did own and loved a first year FZ-09. How does the front end of this new r7 feel? when i test rode the MT-07 it was so light that the front end just never felt "in the pavement" to me, it just felt like i was floating on top of the pavement and i just had no confidence when on it. i hope that being different geometry and leaned over will make the r7 feel better.
They completely revised the front suspension and forks, it’s supposed to feel far different from the r6 and the mt07
Oc - your tracking shots are soooo much better! Missed those sweet sweet camera car shots.
Honestly the R7 looks like a 400 in size with how well they've packaged it. Going to be a great motorcycle for people coming off their first bike. Hope they fill the hole left by the R6 for more advanced riders though, not everyone will want to jump all the way up to R1
I rather stick with high pitch revv sound R6 than R7.

Guys you gotta remember this is mostly just Yamaha's answer for the Aprilia RS660.
It doesn't have nearly enough power to compete with the RS660.
@@dsofe4879 True. This is Yamahas answer to Ninja 650 and Yamaha R3 with race kit. :D
@@dsofe4879 but most people will chooses it over the rs 660 because its cheap and Yamaha is reliable.
@@tristanwright2015 I guess we'll see. I just hope the reason it's so low on power is because they're leaving room for an R9 with the CP3.
@@dsofe4879 why is there no one who appreciates a lower power? Think about it: that engine is going to last forever and will be extremely cheap in maintenance plus it has power throughout the whole rev range while some super high power engines like all the new 1000s are only "driveable" at over 9000rpm. Why is everybody just staring at the peak power? I personally love bikes that you don't have to push into the freaking rev limiter in order to accelerate properly...
It's beautiful!! And it seem's that will be the best motorcycle for new rider's!!
Can’t wait to see more on this bike, this is the bike I might buy I. The coming years
Cracking video. Sweet looking bike. Riding small sports bike can be way more fun on a twisty road than a 1000. How many people said a few years ago small sports bikes are dead ? This and the Aprilia are proving then wrong. Easy going mid range rather than having to Rev it out all the time.
Growing up I remember watching Nitro Nori race Yamaha R7 in WSBK and doing crazy stuff.
It's hard to believe Yamaha is calling MT-07 base motorcycle R7.
Great Job Chase! I'll trade my 2015 R3 when the second version comes out with: a better looking headlight design, full color screen to compete with the RS 660 and another color option other than blue and black and plain black.

This bike isn’t launching until December in Australia but as soon as I saw it and had a brief read of the specs, I called my local dealer, paid a deposit and put my name down for one. It’s a shame they don’t an all matte black or matte grey one! Nevertheless...can’t wait to get it!
Well now, you've a R7 with 72 hp, and next up the line is R1 with 197 hp! There's no gradual increase with R6 being missing, I see people moving to other motorcycle manufacturers, who want to go for track days.
