  • So...I may have missed Assassin's Creed 3s birthday last October, while being distracted with Assassin's Creed 15 year anniversary and the announcement of Assassin's Creed Mirage. Please forgive me Connor! So my gift to Assassin's Creed 3 is a video reminiscing about the game and why I love it so much.

Assassin's Creed 3 has always been my favorite and my childhood despite so many glitches and bugs. Connor has been my favorite character. People say he's emotionless but he's not. He's a hero and the best Assassin ever. I love Assassin's Creed 3 a lot and it's the best Assassin's Creed game ever.

Something I really liked about this game are the assassin recruits and how they gave them more character than just a faceless foot soldier. You can even have conversations about their life and how they got to be in the colonies which is always a joy to hear. One thing that shocked me was that one of the recruits named Duncan was actually the little boy that haythem met at the theater when he assassinated his grandfather. It makes me sad that they were never used more in missions and in the story as they had some good potential for more interactions with Conner and how he had to build up the brotherhood in the colonies agian.

@jmal I learned the hard way: make sure if you’re in a Patriot controlled area that you target a Patriot before using it. I believe the recruits default to Redcoat disguises which gets you attacked in those areas.

Best game in the franchise. By far the most nuanced and complex narratively. People get mad at Connor saying he’s badly written because he doesn’t express his emotions in such obvious ways as Ezio, but truthfully, it’s some of the most subtle character writing in videos game history. He truly is a fascinating example of stoicism, and fortitude. Meanwhile, the game itself is outstandingly ahead of its time with the quintessential experience during the American Revolution. It’s a long sweeping story that makes you feel like you are really living through both the Seven years war, and American Revolution. Also it’s the most historically accurate game on the franchise both on a narrative level, and more impressively, on a world level. It breaks my heart that Black Flag took the potential this game built and burned it to the ground to create an Ezio like pirate simulator. The platoons, the variations to the different unit types, the tree running, the sequences where you are locked into a specific area, the bounty system, the very realistically designed cities, the realistic ships and crew, the care taken to make character models, it was all downgraded for Black Flag. I love Black Flag, it was the first ac game I played and it made me fall in love with the franchise, but sadly it wasted all the potential ac three established aside from naval combat. Even ship boarding in Black Flag isn’t realistic since you’re fighting entire crews of regulars instead of sailors with a few regulars on board like in ACIII. I don’t want to be too hard on Black Flag because I love the game and I can understand many decisions made, but Rogue has no such excuse. Rogue is the biggest waste of potential in the franchise. My god that games infuriates me because it does so much right, but so much more wrong. If only Rogue was as good as ACIII and ACIV, and a truly great finale to my favorite ac trilogy. It’s frustrating that the most innovative games aside from ACII have so much potential tosses aside for the next game because people never seem to be able to let Ezio go. I love Ezio, but he keeps holding back the franchise.

@@YesNo-yl6ws You know, for a long time I said Brotherhood, Unity, and Three were all tied for number one to me. However, the more I think about ACIII the more I realize that I believe it is the best in the franchise. However, Brotherhood is right behind by a close margin.

    • @jmal
      @jmal ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@ScrewthenewhandlesystemI love _ACIII_ as well, not only because of the setting and the gameplay, but also because of Connor as a character. I don't think people don't like Connor because he's not relatable. If anything, he's _too_ relatable. He's had tragedies in his life like most of us, had failures like most of us, and has flaws in his character like most of us. It's to the point that I see myself in Connor, despite not being the same race and ethnicity. That's the sign of a well-written character.
While I loved that aspect of his character, most gamers want an escape from reality, that's why they gravitate towards Ezio and his Mary Sue-esque character. _Brotherhood_ and _Revelations_ made him more human when these games showed that he can make fatal mistakes (e.g. the attack on Monteriggioni because he spared Pope Alexander VI) and questionable decisions (e.g. letting Cappadocia burn).

I find I enjoy the Parkour far more in 3 than the Ezio games as well. While there is more freedom in your cancellation timing, I find that the system they used lowers the barrier to entry somewhat while still allowing players the ability to free themselves from the “safe running” by holding Jump or Drop.
It just needed some tuning to not get stuck on walls when cornering…

Which makes me sadder that _Unity_ failed because nobody else has made a video game primarily set in the French Revolution with the level of detail AC is known for.
Now Ubisoft is pandering to the lowest common denominator (because of course they do) with Project Red. I'm still hoping that they'll throw their signature curveball and reveal that it's actually set in Meiji Restoration Japan with the "Feudal" part only isolated to a small section of the game, maybe as a prologue or a village untouched by Western civilization, but I'm afraid that's wishful thinking.

AC3 was a blast back in the day, and you really cannot fault ubisoft in their environments too much. You saying footage of AC3 was used in a museum reminded me of the fact, that Unitys rendition/recreation of the Notre-Dame was so accurate and done down to the minute detail, that after the real church burned the restorers made use of AC Unity as a reference of how and what they should rebuild, in addition to other material of course. But that is still a huge testament to their work and world creation skills.

But my first ever interaction with Assassins creed at age 6 was when I held the huge ezio hidden blade gauntlet on my tiny hands, and watched the blade spring out of no where as I was trying to figure out how it worked. It was fascinating, then after a while, I fell in love with the larp ac3 axe, which was fantastic aswell. played every single game and dlc in the series (besides rogue and mirage) and it's still the only game i happily return to years later! there's something intimidating about connor's demeanor, his persistance or rather blind stubbornness and hard shell under which he holds so much love and warmth towards his tribe and the homestead folk that i found incredibly endearing about him. the story is incredible, following haytham and the templar reveal, to connor's crucade against those that wronged him and where he's desperate to fix everyones problems only to end up making little to no impact on the world around him. the templars order will always prevail. his people are still loosing their lives and land. the things he was fighting against were just so much more bigger than himself. it was like he was trying to fight a hurricane and expecting to change its course. his story is an incredibly sad one. one of trying to make a difference and failing. from failing to protect his tribe and people as a whole, to failing his father, as well as his allies failing him, seeing the failure of the society (the slavery and the land annexation). no other protagonist in the series or a story in the series made as big of an impact as the one of connor.

I feel that in terms of flow, AC3 is very much like RDR2 in the way that both took quite long to build up (Maybe AC3 took too long). I remember first watching the trailer of AC3 on TH-cam in summer 2012, and played this game a few years later, discovering Haytham as the playable character and wondered what was it, speaking of whom the devs really did a good job of avoiding the 'Templar bad' thing, because you just had to agree with Haytham most of the time, for me it was when Connor and him were on the rooftops on the topic of liberty. I really love how the Colony was presented, especially Boston, the Frontier felt immersive as well. The music, as you mentioned, just kills it, tbh I think they always nail the music part, for this game, Connor's Life especially, it gives you that lonely feeling while traversing an untouched wilderness, exactly what this game is presenting with Connor's story.

It's June 27, 2023 almost 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 & I'm playing Assassin's Creed 3 again but the remastered version on PS5. Even though the frame rate is still 30 this timeline, characters, gameplay, even the graphics still look great ! & so much more is why AC3 will always have a special place in my heart.

Still my favorite in the series even after over 10 years. Thank you for showing it some love. I always felt like a black sheep having this game be my favorite AC. I remember when I came out for Switch a couple of years ago I played the crap out of it again (more than my original play through in 2012) and loved it even more. Honestly AC 3 is probably in my top 10 favorite games of all time.

AC Black flag will be 10 years old this year? God im old now... Also that AC 3 in museum fact is really cool, i never knew that until today. Ubisoft are amazing at making very authentic looking old and ancient maps. And do so much research to where they can recreate structures, buildings, whole cities and towns and the surroundings/nature to the point where its put in a museum. Because it matches up with books, drawings, pictures, and left over structures from that time.

So funny story. When I first started playing the AC games, I played them backwards 😅 starting with the release of AC3, and while I love Ezio like everyone else. Connor holds a special place in my heart seeing as hes the first assassin I played, dragging me into this series ❤

I love your video but it blows my damn mind that assassins creed 1 is 16 years old, that game blew my fraekin mind. That game is half my age and it still looks good. I loved the gameplay so much, parrying patrolling abbasid troops with my little dagger down to the last man made me feel like the ultimate badass. take me back to 2007, please.

For many years I've been waiting for Sequels and Prequels for Connor, Arno, Shay, Aveline, Bayek, Edward and Haytham and give them all more character development, it's not that hard to make these games if you think about it, it's just so frustrating that Ubisoft doesn't do it

Back in 2012 when the game launched, I played it on a 2008 laptop with 12-15 fps on average and I enjoyed it. I really did. Years and years later I am glad the Internet users got to appreciate it and I thank you for making this video.
Also, I bought the Freedom Edition and Connor's statue was the first of the many from AC universe. Furthermore, I bought the game on Steam to get some extra missions and a season pass (like The Treason Benedict Arnold).

The first Assassin's Creed game I ever played was the latest one at the time. After that, I went back and played the original Assassin's Creed and all the subsequent games, finishing them all. Currently, I'm playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and I've played Assassin's Creed 3 four times. The music and combat systems in each game are unique and different from others I still think its better than AC Black Flag.

I really appreciate you making this video, the love you show for this game & the points you raised. As someone who actually hates Ezio & the Ezio trilogy, AC3 was a much needed breath of fresh air for me when it released. I loved this game so much, still do, & never agreed with any of the criticism/hate it got. Connor is my 3rd favorite of all the assassins, right behind Edward Kenway & Kassandra. I loved his character & thought he was played wonderfully. I really felt for him & enjoyed watching his development throughout the game. I also agree that the combat in AC3 was peak. AC4 is right up there with it for me too.

Honestly it was when the Ezio games kicked off that the series really went into making cartoonishly evil templar leader antagonists. AC1 does not try as hard to make an empathetic case as AC3 does but the templars weren't completely heartless power-drunk maniacs there either. And even the mentor of the brotherhood saw the need for control, though _he_ was definitely on the side of crazy.
Haytham admonishes his brethren for going too far and directs most of his efforts towards whatever will cause the least damage to the public, even if his methods were forceful and could be easily misunderstood. Otso Berg would say Haytham was too easily compromised by his own emotion but I think a good templar really needs to have that much heart in their actions. Long as they don't completely loose sight of the bigger picture.

I'm really happy this game is getting the love it deserves. All the hate it received, or at least most of it, it wasn't the game's faulst, mostly. I remember Everyone was loving it when it came out, maiby some complains about Connor or the bugs, but nothing too bad. The hate came because fans were expecting AC3 to be the end of the saga, like Mass Effect 3 or Gears of War 3; nobody wanted another AC, at least for a while, since everyone was afraid the frinchise would become like CoD or FIFA having a game released every year. So, when the game ended with a cliffhanger and Black Flag was confirmed, everyone started calling this one a bad game, even the worst in the franchise. And if you check, most of the people that still claim this game is bad are people that played it 11 years ago, got mad at it and never touched it again. But all the people that are giving it a second chance or playing it for the first time now, are really enjoying it. AC3 is an amazing game, and you can feel the love that was put in it when it was created.
