I honestly like how long it took for us to get the robes and become a bona fide assassin. Makes you feel Connors journey from regular guy to assassin, and makes it all the more worth it
Thank you. I totally disagree with OP about how that's a negative point and just wanting to "stab people already". It really made me enjoy the story even more and appreciate being an assassin when I was finally there. I think this game to me is an excellent first play through, but may get a little boring the next time I attempt the story mode.
For me i don't like how long the tutorial is, makes it impossible for me to replay. So for me im fine with it if we get our robes soon, cause that usually means the tutorial is over and we can play the game lol,
Two things make this game kick serious ass for me: 1. The combat is brutal. Connor uses that tomahawk like an absolute butcher, and the animations are smooth, fluid, and enthralling to watch. 2. The music, particularly the main theme, is phenomenal. It still remains my favorite piece of music from all of the AC games.
The combat is honestly one of the weaker parts of the game. For a combat system to be so centrally and fundamentally built around fighting groups of enemies, you really need a parry that actually works. AC3 lacks that. Yeah, you can parry, but it only ever works maybe 45-60% of the time, and that's one of many MAJOR oversights like it. Not to mention the controls suck because Ubisoft could never decide on a control scheme and just stick with it.
@@ObeyCamp Wdym works half of the time it works ALL the time you just suck bro. True the combat is bit weak cause its so damn easy to pull off parry instant counter kills.
The main theme appears rarely, I just hear the combat soundtrack which is way too loud compared to the soft music a second before, and the soundtrack if Boston which totally annoys me because its so repetitive. The main theme is one of the best of all time but the actual Soundtrack while playing sucks
@Donniedarev his native dialogue, especially when he was a child sounded like I told an AI to read me out a children's story in the most retarded voice possible. Honestly I have never hated cut scenes as much I did in Assassin's Creed 3. Nearly half of them are unwatchable unless you are a masochist and like to hear the sound of human laungage getting massacred by a robot.
@@wrpg9955 Nah those scenes were great. They sounded exactly like a robot. They could not have done Connor's voice better, he speaks exactly as he should.
Oh hell nah Connar's voice sounds robotic, does not fit at all, not to mention he speaks with a straight and in cold way which does not fit him either. Except when he talks in his native language every other scene was annoying
We just have to appreciate the balls Ubisoft had while doing this game. After doing the Ezio trilogy, being confortable doing minor changes for years in those games. Changing the overall setting, all the gameplay systems, and in top of that, taking their time to develop the story for that many gameplay hours, while adding meaningful side content (like the homestead misions). Those where all very bold moves at the time.
Connor was my personal favorite character in all of AC. He’s hyper focused, loyal, and stoic yet kind and deeply sensitive and understanding. He was slightly hindered by the writing of the story, but you can definitely see his character shining through.
Yeahh he imo had the deepest and most compelling story out of all the AC Main Protagonists also he's like one of the only Native American main characters in a game their's really any Indigenous stories in games which I found interesting
@@CoffeeForAll he started as a foolish, ignorant and naive in the beginning, he met Achilles when he still 14 years old, and you need to remember that his age during most of the game about 18 and 19 years old, for that age he's quite matured, not to mention that ezio was also a spoiled child in beginning of Ac2, yet connor maturity already surpassed ezio in young age
There are two things I like about this game that made me come back. 1. Connor's hidden blade is unique because it's on a pivot. So along with being a regular blade, he can curve the blade to hold it like a dagger or icepick. It's also serrated so cutting into animal flesh is easy to do. A unique blade for a unique assassin. 2. One of the things you can do for this game is watch the NPC's. Many games have NPC's, but they also either seem to walk around endlessly or just do the same job 24/7. In AC3, the NPC's actually have a timetable and even depending on the season, they will do something uniquely different depending on their job. I've spent hours in the homestead simply watching the locals do jobs or activities. And seeing as it's where I actually live (New England). It feels like watching my ancestors work.
Was going to give you a like until you said "New England" wasn't really a big thing in the states until the "New England" NFL team changed their name from the Boston Patriots. It didn't really catch on until Tom Brady came around. 💀💀💀
Connor was a beast and he fit the Assassin theme so well. An indian, tomahawk in hand, hunting, stealth, killing, scalping. It all fit for an Assassin. He was huge and fast with the brutality to match. They can't all be Ezio which is what makes the series so great I just wish the devs had developed him like they did with Ezio.
I like the way ubi built Connor's overall gameplay, his journey from being child to trained killer by the end🔥 Not just some guy who found assassin robe and magically learned all combat stealth stuff.
Not gonna lie,Assassin's Creed 3 is my favourite game to this date.I've held onto the AC games since 2017 and played every game from Ezio to Arno. But still AC 3 is my favourite game yet
plus there are (albeit not utilized much) some awesome hidden assassinations like from sitting on a fence or on boxes or near a pitchfork.Really don't get why the werent used as much.
It's not underrated cause the game actually sucked dick, the missions were too linear, tons of repetitive missions, boring mc, and one of the most boring, risk free videogame writing I have ever seen
One of my favorites in the series. Having a native-american as a protagonist, is not a very common thing! And i loved him! The brootherhood was practicly a lost cause, but thanks to Connor it rise from the ashes. The only AC that it felt a bond with the templars, thanks to Haytham. Connor had too much dedication, devotion and atitude. Its funny, when you are playing Assassins Creed lll, the game feels so correct in the both sides (Templars and Assassins) giving us the oportunity to have an experience of different ideas. To choose our own decisions. In some point in the game, i was with Haytham, in others with Connor. For me, there's no enemies in this game, only two factions with different ideas. I played, all the entire franchise and this game is the only one, that you are feeling that the Assassins persuit an empty goal and the templars only want to follow an order, direction and purpose. "Freedom is an invitation to Chaos...all in the name of liberty" Indeed, what a great game!
@@masterassassin791 oh btw about stealth oppertunities while the stealth aint as refined. There are alot of stealth assassinations that can be done depending on envirements like pitchforks fence boxes.
Having a protagonist of any ethnic background shouldn't score you points. I agree with pretty much everything else you said though, the setting in this game is really neat.
it's sad that assassin's creed 3 was the peak of the series. I've played all the other games after 3, most of the following games were good, but the modern day sections... as altair would say: "it's caused a rift that has never fully healed" i just don't care about the modern day portions of the story anymore, it just feels utterly directionless.
@@haunteddreams7856 just to elaborate more on what i said. i feel ac3 was the peak, because that was the last game where the modern day actually served a purpose and direction - sure succeeding games had the odd reference to juno here & there, but with demond and Junos death, i just feel the modern day aspect of the games lacks any real sense of direction, tension or antagonists
I remember sitting there playing the remastered edition and just listening to Connor's speech again. He is so dang underrated. People can't handle a character that doesn't quip and is an introvert apparently.
It's not his introversion that's the problem. It's that he complains about every goddamn thing. I can see why teenagers at the time liked him, but for those of us who are a bit older, we get enough whining from our kids.
@@Beery1962 Right, because after seeing his mom burned alive as a child, dealing with the injustices and hypocrisy of a society he's an outsider to, being used and betrayed by those he thought his allies and everyone and their mother either trying to destroy/oppress/cast out his people, culture and way of life, and not managing to achieve a single one of his main goals aside from killing templars, I suppose he should just stop complaining and suck it up like a man, if only because his "whining" gets on your nerves right? 🙄
@@rojaedavis8367 Dude, it's a game. Game characters have had worse things happen, and they didn't endlessly mope about it. Connor is a fucking downer. Games and game characters are supposed to be fun.
@@Beery1962 Fine. I'll just say it. Batman. Connor is literally a slightly nicer native american version of Batman. Yet everyone would swear up and down that the Arkham games are the greatest, which while I did enjoy, felt like Batman was at his blandest, even after he got three games. Seriously give Connor gadgets, a utility belt and have him wear all black and you could hardly tell the difference. The only difference is that Connor is naive and that's it. So I don't understand how you can give Batman a pass and yet give Connor shit for the same reason.
@@rojaedavis8367 Batman broods. He doesn't whine. Brooding comes from a position of emotional strength. Whining comes from a place of emotional weakness. Sure, maybe the developers were trying for brooding when they made Connor, but they failed. He's a grown man who comes across as a petulant child. The only people who thought he was cool were angsty teens.
I have to say, that being from the UK and knowing/learning little about the American revolution, AC3 (original) really brought this incredible historical event to light for me. i feel like it did change my perspective on the little that i knew of the revolution and seeing this game be brought back into the modern era, i will definitely be getting the remastered.
I knew virtually nothing about the revolution myself being from Northern Ireland, I was actually able to share alot of knowledge with other people on the revolution my boss was shocked to find out that Britain owned America at one point and I was able to educate him on the colonies, the Boston tea dumping, notable figures at the time and why America wanted independence to begin with due to massice taxation. It was very insightful to life at the time. I aslo enjoyed learning of the native people of America which was something I knew nothing about before playing the game.
@@khonshu7643 something the game doesn't really touch on is that the Revolution was actually a proxy war between France and Britain. France used the colonies revolution to try and further their own political aspirations, but ended up bankrupting themselves and in turn causing their own Revolution lol Long story short though, the US wouldn't exist without France.
I LOVED the homestead missions. They were the absolute charm of ac3 according to me. There was the marriage with the hunter lady, i still remember, with the mining dude with a cap. Great characters there, i loved em. Also the assassin recruitment missions, damn they were a blast.
Thats not really true because connor had to go through a lot when dealing with his father a literal templar grandmaster, he started of dispising him, then worked with him and realized they're goals werent as indidferent, and then finally the tragic ending where he had to fight and face his father face to face. Even Haythem had respect for him in his end and felt pride. That shit is literally overlooked so much. He was not bland in his character and was more rightous than most, he just was overlooked because he came directly after a dude who had 3 entire games about himself to set his character development up.
@@sirpranabR that was my favourite homestead mission. the marriage of myriam and norris, and CONNOR SMILED as well, and every time i replay it i just cant help but smile as well. building up the relationship of myriam and norris and then finally seeing their marriage, man.
Connor single-handedly erased the influence of templars in colonial america,... he is well known for establishing a brotherhood in colonial america. He had 3 children, one of them who is a girl inherited the rare sixth sense. And his wife didn't leave him, it was just a rumor by abstergo.
The twist at the beginning where it turns out Haythem is a Templar was a brilliant and only improved upon when you discover in the black flag that his father was a very prominent Assassin and, much like we see them try with Arno in Unity, the templars managed to manipulate him into becoming a member. By far the best story moment in any assassins creed game to date.
AC3 is and always be my favorite. Connors character is what drew me in. He makes mistakes but learns from them. He also has a pure heart, nieve sure, but all heart.
I think people tend to forget the vision he had with the crystal ball. What his people basically called spirits told him that he needed to meet Achilles and stop the Templars. He was a warrior
ACIII was the first ever Assassin's Creed I've ever played. And for that, it will always have a special place in my heart. I loved it from beginning to end.
I think the main orchestral theme of Assassin's Creed 3 is one of the most underrated pieces of music in the franchise. It can be swelling, but melancholic accompanied with the beating and bombastic drums that remind you that Connors life has been conflict and war. It's up there with Ezios family for me.
Agreed. Really gives a sense of revolution. After all these years, I still listen to the main theme, Trouble in town and Fight club. Some of the best soundtracks in the whole franchise in my opinion along with Ezio’s family of course.
Never understood all the hate Conor got as a character. One of my favourites for sure. People hated on him because he wasn't an Ezio clone, despite Conor being a much more complex character.
@@stadion6789 honestly people just hated him because he wasnt no Ezio. I wish people gave Connor a chance. Hell English isnt his first language nor does he understand the social cues or sarcasm of this whole new world. Surprise! Connor isn't jolly 24/7 when he has 0 allies and just had to kill his own father.
I remember owning AC3 shortly after its release. I wasn’t expecting the long story introduction, but I wasn’t expecting Connor the Assassin to magically appear on my tv screen at the start of the game as well. I was annoyed then, but intrigued and impressed of the story now. In fact, I now love the first hours of AC3 more than the rest of the game, just because it was so different. And then I was very surprised to see Edward throw that hood on so fast in the next installment.
You forgot to mention the homestead missions that I enjoyed a lot (The Wedding, Achilles' Armor, etc.). Also, the assassin recruits are nice with their own style, skill and story. I really enjoyed playing AC3
When I see people talk about this game, I just don't understand the hate Connor gets. I mean sure, he was just such a different protagonist compared to Ezio - some things worked for the better, some not so much. But when I played this game, I couldn't help but notice certain similarity between him and Altair. Altair begins his story as a brash and impulsive man who gradually grows into a wise man and discovers the truth - that templar and assassin struggle isn't as obvious. Connor arguably experiences very similar story. And they share that serious personality mixed with kindness and compassion. Everyone glorifies Altair, would make sense to at least give Connor some credit too
I like Altair, no wonder I like Connor too. The thing about Ezio is, his personality is just too generic. And his personal story is too bland or childish I must say.
I think what separates Altaïr and Connor is that Altaïr as he kills his targets kind of questions his own beliefs Connor hold the belief throughout the game that all templars are evil and never really questions it
Yeah, because people think if your family member gets killed (especially at young age (Connor) or small child (Aiden)), you basically become a joking machine with a lot of charisma....
Aiden got hated because of the game downgrades his story really good in my opinion and connor got hated because he is the new protagonist and desmond died
I hate how so many Ezio fans hate on games for years and then magicly do a 180, and all of a sudden the game they hated is God's gift. I swear it's all for views at this point. So many AC youtubers doing it. (That said, yes. AC3 is amazing.)
The one thing that I really disliked about AC3 was the bow mechanic, you cannot aim the bow without having your reticle on a target and it just really pissed me off (maybe it's been fixed now). But this bugged me so much that it caused me to dislike AC3. But to be fair, I think if all AC games (1 - Syndicate) got a modern remake, the Ezio series would be the best IMO.
@@agentmikster44 thats a fair view mate. I do believe (tho not certain) that the bow has free aim on the AC3 remake. Worth a check if you own it. And yh there is alot to love about the ezio games. Great free running based levels in amazing locations and awesome historical settings along with the brotherhood system that was so fun to use. However I suppose I love the modern day Desmond story in the ezio games, but ezio felt like a Mary sue to me. He's good at everything just because, he's the chosen one prophet just because, and all the ladies love him just because. He feels like he was written by a teenager to me. Put me off ezio games as that problem only changes by revelations, which as a game itself was not as good as brotherhood or 2. I feel as tho alot of ezio love comes from nostalgia, as the games are fairly repetitive when compared to almost every other game in the series besides unity, and the story is just a generic revenge plot without Desmond. Funny then how back when the games were new, ezios biggest fans always wanted to get rid of the modern day. In my view the Desmond storyline was what gave the seires its reputation for interesting story. I just simply can't see the huge appeal in ezio or his story without Desmond.
My parents got me the ezio collection but i asked for unity i don't really want to play the ezio trilogy no offense I'm just not intrested in those ones
The ending monologue with Connor would've been an amazing addition to the end of the game. I think it would've added the fact that Connor knows that his father was correct, even though he doesn't accept it. I would've liked this reflection on what Connor has done and learned, and it would've provided more depth.
I remember always loving ACIII. From its setting to Connor’s incredibly interesting character (even though he was very different from Ezio and far more stoic), the first chapter of the Kenway saga has spent 9 years holding a special place in my heart. I’ll add that as a kid my mind was blown by the Haytham twist, and I instantly fell in love with the naval combat. I was also incredibly interested in Connor’s heritage, as I was largely unfamiliar with the intricacies of any Native American culture, and this game was a good place to start familiarizing myself with them. I think as time has gone on the historical aspect of AC has sunken into the background as the series has become more of an RPG and less of an open-world, exploration based series.
I don't think people realized that the single act of Ubisoft making Connor unabashedly Native was groundbreaking in itself, because they actually committed to it and did very thorough research. They had Mohawk consultants on their team and actually listened to what they had to say, and the end result is something that looks and feels like it was made from a place of love and care. Too bad Connor wasn't so well received...
@@cottonswab2131 Now we have demi-gods instead of assassins. Ubisoft used to put great care into their projects like removing the crossbow in AC1 because it wasn't historically accurate. Not saying new AC games are bad but just that they have a lot less effort put into them.
@@cottonswab2131 Honestly yeah. Connor probably was the biggest rep for native americans ive seen in any media as far as i know. Connor is by far one of my favorite assassins to date.
Because Ubisoft has great writers amongst their staff but management is pure dog shit and doesn't allow the story to flourish in an organic and satisfying way. They throw out characters, cut off storylines, and mandate shifts in the series purely to chase trends and make a quick buck. Hence why so many of the characters post AC Revelations have a lot of potential storylines and character development opportunities that are never explored or relegated to obscure comics and books. Haytham's whole backstory is in Forsaken, Connor's story is capped off in a bunch of obscure supplementary material, Edward's remaining life is also in Forsaken, then there's Shay's storyline which has so much potential to intertwine with Arno and Connor's stories and that's never been capitalized on by Ubisoft. You also have characters like Nikolai Orlov, Shao Jun, and Arbaaz Mir who get next to nothing, not to mention the fact that Bayek was by far the most popular new character in ages and they threw him out after one game instead of exploring his story more. There's also the fact that the modern day story regarding Juno is wrapped up in an obscure comic book, effectively squandering all of the gameplay potential of that story post Desmond. The series is just utterly frustrating to follow if you're invested in the characters and their personal stories.
I like the way you summarize the story of this game. This game is like a visual representation of the saying “The winners of war write the history books”
They way this game felt like a breach of fresh air from the combat to the setting being the literal opposite of Europe and introducing the fan favourite ship combat retrospectively AC3 is still one of my favourites
I like how you pointed out what makes connor good as a character despite the fact he is bland personality wise. People expect him to be charismatic and witty like ezio. But why would a man who has gone through the hardships Conner has endured ever act like that?
AC3 was a great and memorable experience for me and the setting and Connor's story certainly played a big part on that! I never understood the hate it got from AC fans.
Same it was one of my first games first ac game in fact so i didn't understand it at first, but when I discovered we could pet the dogs man it was really amazing. It had its pros and cons but at its release it had quite interesting stuff, the best part of it is the start though. May be I m a bit biased but it is still a good game. Sorry for long the comment.
@@v3n0mv21 yeah, the introduction and Haytham's identity reveal is the most memorable part of the game for me. Overall i loved the whole journey and especially the cutscenes and side characters and as time goes by i feel even more nostalgic about it, kinda like the ezio trilogy.
@@chrismoore5333 You'd be surprised how many hated the game cuz of political reasons(not everyone likes their heroes portrayed as morally grey or villanous). While a funny reason it was one that gained alot of hate.
@@tatfly5779 I suppose that's a good point I wouldn't have thought of, as I'm in England. So no one here really had that problem. But it is a good point for sure!
As a non american, it was really cool too learn more about the history of the country, and using the perspective of a native american to show both sides was really clever and in my opinion, one of the best exemples of good representativeness in video games I just wish they could represent my country (Brazil) a bit better on that modern day mission :b
I actually liked how long it took for Conner to become a assassin, I felt like we were with him on his journey to becoming a assassin and it doesn’t feel like it happens overnight
After playing red dead redemption 2 and replaying AC3 it felt like Conner becoming an assassin was faster then I remembered, I felt like we needed to see more of his training and chemistry with Achilles
I feel like they should’ve cut things off with Haytham a bit earlier and gave maybe another sequence worth of pre assassin Connor. Like you said it woulda been cool to see and I feel like most of the missions you play as Haytham are pretty boring anyways
Much as I am annoyed by the pacing of the story, one key aspect about it I do thoroughly love is its tackling of moral ambiguity, that the game wasn't afraid to challenge the players' ideas on who was right and wrong. In fact, it was this very storytelling element that made Haytham Kenway my favorite villain in this franchise. Unlike Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia, who were only interested in seizing power and control, Haytham was interested in simply wanting order, peace, and direction, and he actually believed he was doing the right thing.
I was always disappointed we never got a Conner sequel either set during the War of 1812 or a game where Conner sails to Europe and meets up with Arno during the Napoleonic Wars.
Just finished this game for the first time, never played any of the older titles, thought it was pretty good, excellent review - thanks for including the deleted monologue, I had no idea!
This was my first assassins creed. Got it in 6th grade Christmas. It’s the best AC right above black flag IMO. So much nostalgia, it makes me almost cry :(
The homestead upgrades/missions were really cool, I didn't even know they existed till my second playthrough. Also, the rope darts. Whoever decided to get rid of the rope darts is actually stupid. There was nothing more badass than hanging a target from a tree branch. Edit: The modern gameplay was easily the best in the series too
Loved it when it came out. Replayed it last year, platinumed it, and loved it just as much. Such a great setting, unique mechanics, and great story. The thinking-man's AC. I said it.
Connor couldn't live up to Ezio's reputation, that's what most people disliked. But AC3 made a huge leap in gameplay mechanics, the story was good as well and it brought the franchise forward
Just my personal opinion Though it may have been Connor who restored colonial brotherhood and dealt huge damage to the templars (Which is a huge thing to do) I think it was Arno who restored the Creed Spiritually He truly understood what the tenet and the motto actually meant Thus,It should be him who gets to kill Shay,The Monster Created by Colonial Brotherhood after they broke all three tenets It would be a poetic ending to a second game with Arno and Shay
One major problem with this is the major age difference. In 1752, when the Rogue story begins, Shay is already like 25 or something. In 1776, when Arno is a child in Versailles with his father, Shay is already almost as old as Ezio in Revelations. Waiting another 20 years (the main story of Unity ends in 1795 I think) basically means that Shay is an old man at this point. I know that Altair was still very physically able in his late 50s, but that was partially because he had access to the Apple for decades. Shay didn´t have that luxury.
@@SpectreStatus I wanted to say that He became the nemesis for colonial brotherhood because they didnt follow the tenet and instead blamed him for violating them And though I said *monster* as a metaphor He does kill quite important assassins
Great game, the first AC game I played. I liked Desmond story in this one, AC3 got me interested in AC series. Personally I think they nailed it in terms of combat, animations and parkour. Original game graphics is better imo and the cities are cool. Open world in general is not as good as AC4 and newer titles but it is there. Naval missions were nice, I like the part when Connor talks about his grandpa Edward and his gift for sailing. It makes him even better character because he knows his roots and never gives up from his people. Strong story, especially H. Kenway, he was my favorite character in this one and one of the most iconic templars from the series. Overal, this video brings back good memories and makes me feel little bit nostalgic 🙂.
Ac 3 was always my favorite. It had some of the best combat. I did really enjoy the story. The homestead system was one of my favorite. I also consider it being the final ending of the present day stuff which I actually liked. The rest that came after was just anthologies.
The DLC was so good for this game. Getting to use the Native American spirit animals was great add to the game. Definitely amazing to see a different view of how things could have gone for Connor

3:47 I wouldn’t say “the game finally becomes fun” at this point it’s more of a “the game finally begins” I had a lot of fun seeing Connor grow up and knowing his father is a Templar made for the ultimate conflict throughout the rest of the story. Great story looking back at it now.
The reason why the game is hardlocked to 60FPS is due to gamebreaking bugs that could occur when running the game above 60FPS. The OG AC3 on PC could be played with an unlocked FPS but a lot of bugs begin to crop up when you do it. It's a legacy issue from the engine and still persists to this day since AC1.
That didn't bother me at all because I enjoyed playing as Haytham as well. The *only* parts in this game that I don't like are the present day segments. But then again, I don't like those in *any* AC game.
@@mohandave5825 Oh, boo-hoo. Jesus, dude... Stop romanticizing the present day subplot in the old AC games as if it were ever any good! I'm honestly glad that you're giving Connor respect and the game cause I loved AC3 and the story and I wish Connor could get far more credit than he had before like Aiden, a great character
I played this game for the first time this year and I really liked it. I actually thought the parkour was better than in the Ezio games (I don’t know why), the story was decent albeit very slow and oddly paced, and the combat was awesome!
@@mahirhunt117, what? Most people say the Ezio games had better parkour. And just because it’s newer doesn’t always mean everything in it is better than the previous installments. Plus, the parkour in the three latest AC games suck.
Me and my friend really amazed by the graphic, gameplay (tree parkour, equipment, ship, map, animals, and weather!) Especially the animation back in 2012. From Ezio, to AC 3 the graphic really change a lot! When i saw snow, and theres snow step in different places when u walk on it was mesmerized. And then after this game, we get back flag. Ahhh the good old times.
Having just finished a third run of AC3, i honestly think its story is one of the more nuanced in the series. It's nice to have Templars who have higher motives than just 'all power all the time' like in the Ezio trilogy. This is helped a lot by the dialogues between Haytham and Ratonhnhaké:ton which flesh out their ideology in way that hadn't been done since AC1. This was the first game where i genuinely understood why Templars could consider themselves the 'good' guys. Also Ratonhnhaké:ton telling George freaking Washington to his face to eat shit is one of the best story moments in the series, hands down
The only two downfalls to coming back to AC3 was the fact that the story and characters felt boring but also and mostly the second fact is that moving felt so slow and… normal well because I had recently played unity and in that game it really feels like no object or person stands as a problem for you are able to parkour around it if not over it.
Love this game. My first Assassin's Creed. I thought the intro was really clever. I think it was more unique then having a short five minute mission and then a twist. It made the reveal of Haytham being a Templar much more impactful. And Connor is definitely not a bland character. He had more depth than most of those witty characters who are written as charming. Forever my first and favorite AC game. Additionally, all the modern day stories after this game were not interesting at all.
I remember the biggest criticism was from many players: "Oh you gotta hit them 10 times till they die" Which is just baffling to me like do they just button mash on the opponent? That is not how you play ac. You gotta use your gadgets man.
This is my favorite Assassins Creed, but the buginess of the remaster really ruins it, particularly the music glitches where the more times you initiate combat, the louder the music gets, and synchronizing views points causes the music to keep playing until you fast travel or die. Plus Homestead Missions have the tendency to not give you special iron ingots. It's also annoying how if there are more than around ten guards near you, it'll despawn guards you're not looking at. This is even more odd given that (besides the issue of Special Iron Ingots) the Tyranny of King Washington doesn't have the music issue, and guards are allowed to attack you in much higher numbers, although they still do despawn.
8:10 when you talk about it gave us brits and insight on the american side of things. I never learned about either side in school or anything! This game made me want to know more about the American Revolution and that's 1 thing I love so much about all the assassinscreed games! The historical aspects and representation of real life characters is so interesting weather it be portrayed correctly or not! Personally I think if you enjoy a game where you just want to play for the story then this is the game for you but if you're looking for that open world experience then I'd say go for one of the more recent AC games as they are made for it a lot more.
My biggest problem with this game was the cities, they feel pretty mehh i can only remember boston, unity/syndicate fixed that, origins/odyssey was a huge missed opportunity but thats my personal opinion based how i hate how the "modern" games play
The cities in the Kenway Saga were generally a big disappointment. The only good one in Black Flag was Havana. Rogue made New York a little bit better, but the parkour was just really stiff, with the characters (especially Shay), just feeling very heavy.
@@SpectreStatus Nah, not even close. The streets in Boston were wide and rooftops were full of guards that detected you instantly. One of the most boring cities for parkour in the franchise.
@@jirkazalabak1514 Uh, no, rooftop guards don't aggro 'instantly', I just played it. A lot of the time you can breeze right past them with no issue. That's neither here nor there though. We're talking about the cities. I'll hand it to you that Boston is wider and less dense than New York, but it's also more diverse a city and has a lot of interesting locations. Plus it still has dense regions. About 80% of the time you shouldn't hit any real snags. Your parkour session might run out of flow or road temporarily, but you can easily start it up again. The more you travel from the denser parts of the city the more things open up and it does become impossible to parkour, same as New York. But that's expected for this period anyway since it's the Colonial age. The cities aren't going to be entirely dense like Paris. Personally speaking, I think it's a more interesting city than New York, which mostly looks the same throughout, unless you travel to the edges. Neither probably compare to cities like Venice or Rome, but that wasn't really my point.
Going through the entire AC franchise, I just finished 3 remastered finally. I have been watching your video recaps after each game to keep the story fresh. Thanks man love your videos you got my sub👍🏾 on to black flag!
I always loved AC3 and the story was compelling. I understood the anger Connor had entirely and building a small village felt amazing. The only issue I had was the outfit glitch. If I bought other colors you would only see the original outfit in cutscenes.
@@rezponze-g6e unity is good One of the best combat and the best stealth in the series the story was decent and the co op is undisputed the assassin was a simp and his gf is annoying I loved the dlc and it was set in France and included one of my favorite people Napoleon I know he’s a tyrant but that’s how people are like in centuries before 1900s and 2000s it had the best graphics and parkour the worst part is that the game died in 2020 or 2021 barely find any servers and I barely can get enough skill points and Makes no sense how Napoleon got arrested
My sister asked me what one big gift I wanted as an early christmas present. I showed her the deluxe edition of AC3 thinking it might be too much to ask, but she immediately got her card and paid for it. One of the best gifts I've ever gotten and I was addicted to this game the second I booted it up.
I loved AC3 honestly. I remember staying up and playing it all night when it released and I just had a ton of fun with it. I don’t like sailing, but that was my only complaint.
I’m yet to give this video a proper watch but I fundamentally and strongly agree that AC III is very underrated. It’s story was so heavy going emotionally and as the main Templars were introduced near the start of the game, they were well developed characters. The original AC Nine Templars appeared to be the other side of the same coin but were still quite clearly wrong but the AC III Templars really make the player question whether they are actually in the right. The villains in the Ezio games were power hungry but self serving and were clearly bad people. Haytham Kenway is so charismatic and well written and he is my favourite Assassin’s Creed character. I very much like the setting of the game and the game is not only my favourite AC game but my favourite video game. Oh and the soundtrack is great too.
AC3 was my first AC ever. Still remember when I first played, was 12yo back then and man what a ride, one of my first PS3 games also so it made for an amazing experience. For that, after a decade, I'm gonna buy and play the remastered cuz I'm playing every AC game and want to relive the nostalgia and also Desmond's end. Edit: love the combat in AC3 above all else!
I don't understand why some people completely dismiss even playing Rogue just because the protagonist is a Templar when we've had multiple Assassin antagonists in these games.
When I first started my ac journey (started with ezio collection) after I beat the story for those 3 games, I bought rogue, and kept restarting on one of the ship missions because I didn't care for ships. so I stopped playing and went on a spending spree for other ac games (unity, origins, odyssey, syndicate, ac3, and valhalla. didn't even try valhalla, beat all other ones I listed) after I beat the stories for the games I bought, minus valhalla, I went back to rogue because I familiarized myself with the ship combat because of odyssey. I went back to rogue and actually upgraded my ship and beat the story. and the ending showed a different side of things. the assassins weren't always right, and the templars weren't always wrong, and playing the ezio trilogy makes the templars look ruthless and mean, but when you play as shay, it shows that they can be merciful.
This was always my favorite.. damn good theme. People weren't being open-minded and just fanboying over passed experiences. That's why I think it wasn't well received, but to be fair I never caught wind of the negatives at the time. I thought everyone was hyped because everything about it seemed so badass to say the least.
This is my first game in the ac franchise so it holds a special place in my heart .I understand it has flaws but it's much better than the bloatware simulator be get these days
I was fourteen when this game came out and it has stuck with me. Assassin’s Creed III was brilliant to me. It even made me like the modern day segments of the game. It was a highlight of my childhood.
The twist at the beginning was the first time we actually had that “oh shit” moment proving that while the assassins cause can be sympathized with, the templars aren’t the pure evil antagonists they have been made out to be. Sometimes order is necessary. It was a really cool twist imo
Plus, come on… the way they reveal it to you was incredible. Them saying no that shit had me floored as a kid.. “Wait… wtf did they just say?!? WHAT???”
I would say naive more than ignorant. He was smart and capable, but he was very easily manipulated. To me, it just seems like his character has very little agency in what he´s actually doing. With Ezio, we get a story of a main character driving the plot. With Connor, we get a story of the plot driving the main character.
Everything after Revelations just never captured me again. I felt so burnt out and I still am to this day. I guess I just wanted a satisfying ending to Desmonds story but they couldn't deliver that, they just kept going in to these weird areas and still today they don't know what to do with it. This series needs a rest, or a complete reboot.
I asked my grandma for AC3 when we were out at dinner as a family the night of its release. Came Christmas, I had received my favorite AC game to date…AC3. Thanks Nana🤙🏼❤️

The trailer was so god damn hype that my Economics professor was talking about it in class
I also liked getting to be young Connor! It made being an Assassin that much more rewarding and you were closer to Connor as a character too.
Exactly thats pure storytelling
For me i don't like how long the tutorial is, makes it impossible for me to replay. So for me im fine with it if we get our robes soon, cause that usually means the tutorial is over and we can play the game lol,
Im with this. It felt like you truly earned the robes for the first time.
Connor’s Axe is the coolest weapon in the series I have seen(obviously after Hidden blade)
Thing was cool as hell 😎
I always used the Tomahawk!
You forget the hook blade and the guillotine gun
i only ever used the Tomahawk in the game
never once used a sword
the axe was waaay to fun and cool to use
You forget the pistol swords
Two things make this game kick serious ass for me:
The AC3 main theme is just the best song in… any Ubisoft game, really.
@@ObeyCamp Wdym works half of the time it works ALL the time you just suck bro. True the combat is bit weak cause its so damn easy to pull off parry instant counter kills.

By the way, Connor had perfect dialogue and his voice actor did an incredible job.
Mostly yes, but a few times it felt a little bit too robotic or AI sounding.
@@mr.breene you also have to take into account that english is connors second language
I really enjoyed the game personally at launch. It was different and looked great at the time. I really enjoyed the setting.

I'm playing Asassins creed 2 now and Jesus Christ Ezio could hold a candle to Connor
You forgot naive, ignorant, foolish and stupid in your description of Connor.
I wish I lived there. It must be beautiful.
They can't all be Ezio which is what makes the series so great I just wish the devs had developed him like they did with Ezio.
what? since when did connor become indian
what? since when did connor become indian

I played, all the entire franchise and this game is the only one, that you are feeling that the Assassins persuit an empty goal and the templars only want to follow an order, direction and purpose.

it's sad that assassin's creed 3 was the peak of the series. I've played all the other games after 3, most of the following games were good, but the modern day sections... as altair would say: "it's caused a rift that has never fully healed" i just don't care about the modern day portions of the story anymore, it just feels utterly directionless.

I actually love AC3, and loved it the first time I played it. So to me, it is definitely underrated
I started with Revelations, But my first true love of AC was AC 3 if it wasn’t for AC3 I doubt I’d have been a fan I got it a launch and fell in love
Same man.
I agreee
my first was AC1 but the first one i finished was révélations
My first ac was brotherhood. Loved that. Revelation was kind of meh for me but 3 is when I loved the franchise
Same bro 🤣
The cut monologue is one of the most tragic things Ubisoft has done. I just cant help but wonder why it was cut??? It makes 0 sense
Ubisoft and good decisions don’t usual at mix these days
The hate it got from *Ezio fans. Just saying.
As a non american, it was really cool too learn more about the history of the country, and using the perspective of a native american to show both sides was really clever and in my opinion, one of the best exemples of good representativeness in video games
I just wish they could represent my country (Brazil) a bit better on that modern day mission :b
I too learnt a ton about French indian War and the Revolution.
Don’t use the game as history because it isn’t that accurate but that’s not a bad thing
Actually the problem even I remember was hunting. Every time I had to do it as Child Connor it was extremely boring.
Agreed. Not having Connor, Arno, and Shay's paths cross was a huge missed opportunity; especially in the case of Arno and Shay.
So AC3 is basically A refined bottle of Wine that gets better with time
Only because everything else sucks so bad.

Excellent video. Ac 3 is among my favorite games in the series, so it's nice to see a video like this.
Just finished this game for the first time, never played any of the older titles, thought it was pretty good, excellent review - thanks for including the deleted monologue, I had no idea!
This was my first assassins creed. Got it in 6th grade Christmas. It’s the best AC right above black flag IMO. So much nostalgia, it makes me almost cry :(
Damn I was in 8th grade when it came

The homestead upgrades/missions were really cool, I didn't even know they existed till my second playthrough. Also, the rope darts. Whoever decided to get rid of the rope darts is actually stupid. There was nothing more badass than hanging a target from a tree branch. Edit: The modern gameplay was easily the best in the series too
I didn't know until years after
Did no one else have trouble aiming the bow in AC3?
@@agentmikster44 hmm maybe

Loved it when it came out. Replayed it last year, platinumed it, and loved it just as much. Such a great setting, unique mechanics, and great story. The thinking-man's AC. I said it.
Connor couldn't live up to Ezio's reputation, that's what most people disliked. But AC3 made a huge leap in gameplay mechanics, the story was good as well and it brought the franchise forward
I remember my jaw hitting the floor when the twist happened in the intro
Just my personal opinion
Though it may have been Connor who restored colonial brotherhood and dealt huge damage to the templars
(Which is a huge thing to do)
I think it was Arno who restored the Creed Spiritually
He truly understood what the tenet and the motto actually meant
Thus,It should be him who gets to kill Shay,The Monster Created by Colonial Brotherhood after they broke all three tenets
It would be a poetic ending to a second game with Arno and Shay
Food for Thought
One major problem with this is the major age difference. In 1752, when the Rogue story begins, Shay is already like 25 or something. In 1776, when Arno is a child in Versailles with his father, Shay is already almost as old as Ezio in Revelations. Waiting another 20 years (the main story of Unity ends in 1795 I think) basically means that Shay is an old man at this point. I know that Altair was still very physically able in his late 50s, but that was partially because he had access to the Apple for decades. Shay didn´t have that luxury.
@@jirkazalabak1514 still Shay would have been better antagonist than whoever it was in Unity
Shay a 'monster'? Were we playing the same game?
@@SpectreStatus I wanted to say that
He became the nemesis for colonial brotherhood because they didnt follow the tenet and instead blamed him for violating them
And though I said *monster* as a metaphor
He does kill quite important assassins

Should I play it
Only problem with this game was its pacing, it literally took somewhat 3+ hours to play as connor
Well I loved playing as Haythem. he's one of my favourite characters in AC Series.
That didn't bother me at all because I enjoyed playing as Haytham as well.
The *only* parts in this game that I don't like are the present day segments. But then again, I don't like those in *any* AC game.

Why did they remove this monologue? That would've made AC3's ending so much more powerful, damn.
The animations in this game are definitely underrated. It has its issues, but it has some of the best guard chases in the series.
no way u typed all that lmfaoo@TheLatiosnlatias02
I was like two or one years old but I remember loving that game so much
I remember the biggest criticism was from many players: "Oh you gotta hit them 10 times till they die"
Which is just baffling to me like do they just button mash on the opponent?
It's kinda too much of forest but lack of mount in BF and Rogue
New York was done better in Rogue, but in ACIII Boston clearly had the better city design.

One of the best gifts I've ever gotten and I was addicted to this game the second I booted it up.
I loved AC3 honestly. I remember staying up and playing it all night when it released and I just had a ton of fun with it. I don’t like sailing, but that was my only complaint.
AC3 was literally the step in the right direction for what AC games could improve on. So many mechanics in that game that still show up here n there.
Yes AC 3 is very underrated, but the most underrated is still AC rogue.👌🏻
Rogue is still one of my favorites
Rogue is up there on my list. It is the least bloated of all the AC games and it connects all of the games from AC3 to Unity.
WHAT???”
3 is more underrated than Unity, change my mind..
I agree with everything you said except what you said about conor he started out as an ignorant child and ended as an ignorant child
I would say naive more than ignorant. He was smart and capable, but he was very easily manipulated. To me, it just seems like his character has very little agency in what he´s actually doing. With Ezio, we get a story of a main character driving the plot. With Connor, we get a story of the plot driving the main character.
