Seeing that I have a 2018 Sportsman xp 1000 and would like to have a little bit lower gear ratio for low and high I can just switch out the main chain .5 and sprockets from 23 teeth and 44 teeth to the Highlifer 19 teeth and 47 teeth and .75 chain.
Your such a smart ass about stuff and it's great you make things that are so complicated so simple... Videos are great man! Spins the same direction now oooohhhhh
This is so funny that I just ordered the same parts the other way to make my Sportsman xp 1000 into a Highlifer. I ordered the Highlifer chain and sprockets 19,47 teeth and then the reverse shaft 61 teeth , high gear 33 teeth and the rzr reverse chain. I'm a rock crawler and I cut my Sportsman xp 1000 and the wheelbase 63 1/2 " long ,with big tires and steel skid plates I can out climb SXS. But the Sportsman is over 1200 lb. so I had to do the gear reduction because on steep hills on the Trails I would have to stop to go to low and stop then back to High and by this time my son in law riding my highly modified Kodak 700 can make the hill in high has run off and left me. LOL
No alignment tools needed. I'm doing the same thing but the opposite way . I'm putting in all the Highlifer chain and sprockets and High gear and reverse shaft for a Highlifer.
So there is two different gears that give the HL gear reduction. I have a 16 1000xp HL and I am running tracks right now and it’s slow. I would like to get more top speed out of it. What would you recommend doing.
Just snapped my reverse chain on my 18 850sp with 29” xm310s and 2” lift on it pretty sure the razr1000 chain will fit and is a sighted stronger chain.. how has yours turned out any issues with it I know there’s a bit of play in it if you don’t swap gears just want to see if you’ve had any issues or if recommend replacing my stock one with the rzr one ?
Changing my reverse chain. First time doing any kind of transmission work. Your video has been a lot of help. Only problem I'm having is when I put it back it its not shifting. Any advice?
So with this mod you basically just leave it in high when mudding? I have a sportsman 700 and saw a highlifter high range gear reduction but just wondering how that works because I was always under the impression that you're supposed to be in low. Thanks for any info. Awesome channel!
No not at all. You would never want to be in high mudding with this mod. I made the high range a taller ratio for trails and the low range is untouched for mudding.
I have a 17 850sp and want to do a gear reduction and reverse chain upgrade. I have 30 inch outback Max’s and sometimes swap to a 28 rocktane for trail ride so i don’t want too much. Can you list the parts needed to do this? Thnx
I replaced it just to be safe but I learned that once you open up the cover and the shafts can droop you end up seeing a lot more slack than is there with both covers sealed up
Really late with this comment and all, but i have an 850 Scrammy. Im going to do the diesel ranger gear swap, in theory i could do this mod also to not lose too much top end in my high gear right? I love your channel, keep up the awesome work man!
Wrong if you do the full diesel Ranger swap which is the same as the highlifter Edition swap you will be 89% lower in high range. However if you only swap the drive chain and the two sprockets you'll have an overall 30% reduction. I think I explained all that pretty well in the video. I also recommend updating the reverse chain
So I have a 2020 850 sportsman HL with a 6in highlifter lift an a 6in GDP portal lift with 45% gear reduction on 38in outlaw 3’s and I test drove it for the first time yesterday and it tops out fairly quick(around 30 mph) I wasn’t aware that the HL’s came with gear reduction in the trans and got to large of a gear reduction on my portals, do you think I could get similar top speed as a stock sportsman 850 HL (50-52mph) with this swap???
Mud puppy so your saying the rzr chain is good enough and as strong as the shaft with the bigger upgraded gear and chain? From Kenny winters or specialized atv? I like to beat on my wheeler and don’t want it to break again but if the rzr chain makes it good enough it’s way cheaper
man i wish i had half the confidence you have to tinker with shit and take things apart. good work!

So this all I need to do to my 2018 HL to get past 50?
What tools did you use besides the bearing splitter? Did you also have to use the alignment tool to put things back together?
No alignment tools needed.
I'm doing the same thing but the opposite way .

I got my buddies 1000xp in for transmission repair. Chain slap is normal. I went out to check to be sure. Your good
Yeah this chain was actually fine. Looks worse when it opened up cause the shafts droop
Changing my reverse chain. First time doing any kind of transmission work. Your video has been a lot of help. Only problem I'm having is when I put it back it its not shifting. Any advice?
Did you ever figure it out?
I’m having the same problem
Thank you so much, this was very informational, btw what’s the last part that you wrote in the description do?
upgrade reverse chain
If I change these gears out do I have to flash the ECM to allow me to do over 50 without being governed?

@@MudPuppyOffroad oh okay thanks
Did u order from polaris ? I just bought a 2020 850hl works great only thing I dont like is the high rage speed. Do I get the 2018-19 gears ?
The part numbers are in the freaking description like it says in the title

Really late on this but really needing to know if you ended up chainring out that drive chain or if that amount of slop was acceptable
I replaced it just to be safe but I learned that once you open up the cover and the shafts can droop you end up seeing a lot more slack than is there with both covers sealed up

@@MudPuppyOffroad I realized that after thinking it over for a little while and watching your videos again, thanks man.
Great video..my belcrank shaft strip on the top how much of the tranny do I need to disassemble to replace

Itll def help, should be close. But youre pretty tall to go 60!
Hell yeah I appreciate it man, I do all my work myself! Glad to see I ain’t the only one out there who isn’t scared to tare into these beast!!!
@@MudPuppyOffroadit’s definitely gone be a wild ride😁
Man how did you put the parking spring back in?
Does the chain break often?
So what all do I need to change in here to make my high lifter to be geared like a normal non high lifter sportsman?
I hate tge way this high lifter is geared lol
Like it says in the title the part numbers are in the description of this video
Hey man I'm William and I just got a 2021 850highlifter!!.. I need a gear swap on mine ASAP how can I reach you. Please let me know was up.!
Wish you could have done a belt/ beltbox vid
It's just a bunch of ultra black
Roger that 😁
What year is your highlifter i have a 2020 I wanna do this to
Is the reverse shaft required or can you just swap for the high range gear for more top end?
Required
Thanks for the info i learned a lot about the HL transmission
I just pulled my 850 scrambler apart and the top gear that run main drive chain is missing teeth. 100 hours and stock. It must be defective.
My sportsman is a 2015 sportsman 1000 xp
Worked great for me
Mud Puppy I just buy the rzr chain and it fits on my stock shaft/sprocket?
Hey man I have a 2017 Sportsman 850 HL, would you please send me a link on everything I need to do a high gear swap. Or the part numbers please sir.
Man that's a pretty big ask lol look in the description of the video
Do these part #s apply to the 1000 hl
How much did all this cost?
Couple hundred bucks don't remember
Where did you get a high gear from I’m looking to purchase one and how much did you pay for it
Partzilla. Cheap like 200$ for the gears
So when the trans is in park, the only thing spinning is the input shaft in the upper section?
Yep
The real question is how fast does the puppy run ?
70ish
What are the part number on this so I can order
Curious what gears from rzr or ranger would work in an 08 sportsman 800 ho?
None
2019 High Lifter comes with everything your doing
really?
No it doesn't mine will go 50 mph and it's a 2020
Will gears from a 2010 850 work in a 2018 1000 HL ?
Yep
Better upgrade the reverse chain too
Roger that !! Thanks for the info !!
Will this work on a 2021 850HL?
Yes
Where are the part # you titled in the video
pasted from description... 3234774 - SHAFT-REVERSE 53T
3235133 - GEAR-HELICAL 42T
3235633 - CHAIN,SILENT REVERSE (not required but a good idea)
Does this swap still help with gear reduction
Low range ratio is unaffected.
What was the cost for these?
Partzilla had them for a little I've 200$ chain is like 150$
Bro u should of been an engineer
I am... Lol
What does it launch like with that mod?
Alot better... Faster on 32s than a brute on 26s
Hello after that mod how much over 50 did it go
70ish
@@MudPuppyOffroad thx
What’s your perfection?
profession? im a gear head first... mechanical engineer second lol
Mud Puppy makes sense
Are these part numbers good for a 2019
Yep
Pretty sure
Polaris is very lazy and hasn't changed anything on the high lifter lol
First
