That turned out great! Really like the rustic look as well as the logo on the paddle! Cannot wait to see it in action as well as how it holds up over time 👍👍
I luv how your varnish can is like mine... always has that crust layer or "protective" layer i call it u have to break through before u start applying 😁
@@BackcountryPaddler Will do...would love to show you...might be a little while. We are just getting out of winter, so I have to wait to do the Urethane. Question for you...did you ever put the epoxy on the tip. If so, how did it work and what did you use....thanks...Jim
Nice project ! Good for you man. I use a Bending branches beaver tail paddle as a backup paddle to my Werner double blade on trips. Its also really nice cruising around with a beaver tail paddle before dark. very relaxing ! Cheers !
I'm very impressed at the quality for the cost. I really wanted a wood paddle but already broke the bank on a Werner double blade. This worked out great!
Hey Mark, what a great quick project that turned out amazing. Love the look of that paddle, you put life back into it. Great job buddy. Want to wish you and your fam a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2021 full of canoe trips and maybe a couple of fishing trips mixed in.
Great idea! Always willing to save a few bucks when I can!. Period. I wonder if they have wooden paddles for kayaks and if they are as affordable as this one!!
Great vid! How has it held up to use on the water? The wood looks a little soft, especially at the tip of the blade where they often get banged up. But who can really say from a vid image.
Honestly it has exceeded my expectations! I figured for my first paddle and having a custom finish it wouldn't hold up long but it certainly has. I haven't used it a million times and it would be wise to re-coat every year or 2, but I haven't needed to yet and I've scraped and pushed off many rocky bottoms. Cheers!
Thanks for the response. So it's managed to not crack or splinter or ding up really huh? I use the same spar varnish on walking sticks I've made as well as another paddle I had to rehab. I tend to go heavier on the coats. At least three or four. The process takes longer of course but it's worth it imo. Nice choice on the stain.
Wow, beautiful and unique.
Thanks!

I imagine it'll hold up okay. I'll likely have to add a coat of urethane every so often depending on use and abuse. Can't wait to try it out!
That looks great👍 what a nice personalized gift 🎁. For an excellent price thanks for sharing
Can't wait to paddle the Adirondacks with it. Going to be a longgg winter!
- Mark
Turned out well. Great job! Now you just need to get out and use it!
Yup! Just add water.

😂 never fails!!!
Excellent...thanks to your video, I decided to do the same thing and received paddles yesterday. !!! Great job!!
Awesome to hear!! I love mine! Held up great to a long season of abuse. If possible, I would love to see how yours turn out.

Nope, just the urethane and it held up okay. May have to add more each off-season. Epoxy is a good idea. No rush... email me a photo when you're done!
Great job on the video. Looks like it was a fun project.
Very! Happy to have a nice paddle without breaking the bank.
Good stuff Mark, it came out looking pretty nice. Bet you can hardly wait to try it out in the water!
Cheers...
Nicely done.
Thanks!
Awesome. We don’t have these companies in the UK but I might make one from scratch.
That would be even cooler.. do it!
Great idea and I look forward to some more great canoeing trips.
Hi, thank you! Can't wait to get back out on a canoe trip again. More are certainly coming.

Really nice looking paddle! Great video and tutorial. Love that logo, looks great on the paddle.
Thanks, Mike. Looks really good in person. Can't wait to use it! (Though it may be a while...) 😆
Nice work Mark! Looks great. A perfect project for canoeist during these times.
Agreed!

Thanks!
That is gorgeous!

My thoughts exactly.. I'll have both my Werner double blade and this paddle and can alternate whenever. So many ways to paddle now!
@@BackcountryPaddler You betcha !
Great job bud! Looks great! Love the decal too.
Thanks Nick! 👊
Fantastic!

Wow! That turned out great! Well done! When do we get a Backcountry Paddler sticker? 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Haha.. Not sure if you can do stickers on a Cricut but I will look into it just for you!
Awe thx!!!!

Thanks, Adrian. Hopeful that 2021 turns out that way! Canoe trips for sure.. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
That's beautiful! Maybe consider an epoxy coat at the tip to add strength and protect it from rock push offs! Merry Christmas!
I do epoxy, I'll check into that! Thanks, Jon!

Have to admit I've never seen a real wood kayak paddle. Maybe?

I did use several coats of vanish but yes, no chipping or cracking!
Oh sorry, I thought you only used two coats. Thanks for all the info. Keep paddling brother.
That’s almost too nice to use.
