BTW guys, I live in Inverness west of Ocala and I have a ported CJ intake and mono blade tb sitting on my shelf in case you needed to use one for a future part 2 video.
This precisely what my local tuner told me. If you're racing then go with a GT350 or 18 intake because all your gains are on the top end. If you're just street cruising and occasional street racing then the stock intake has better low end torque, but runs out at 6500rpm. Wondering how the complete Borla 8 stack set up fares. Expensive yes, but looks amazing.
I have a ported 18/19 manifold and got the cylinder head ported also . With a tune 511 rwhp. ( + CAI - H-pipe) This video was the inspiration for the mods I got , which I, happy with.
Yes. I been told to put a 2018 GT ported intake on my procharged 2013 F150. Now the question to get a truck manifold or the mustang manifold after seeing this test. Unless someone has a better idea because its boosted? I also been told in order to get the manifold to fit, I will need to purchase a 2018 mustang thermostat housing. Not sure if its the same issue with install on the 11-14 mustang.
Great job. What did it do with the stock 2017 intake manifold? It would be interesting to see how much difference the other six manifolds made. Really impressed with the torque of the truck intake manifold. I'd be interested to see what a ported 2018 truck manifold would do.

Or maybe the 17 performed pretty well and they don’t really want u to know.. Alex brought a a great point ... if you driving light to light your best bet is stock.. if your driving 8500 rpm all the time then get a gt350
I have a 2013 5.0 and the truck manifold looks promising. Would like to know the difference in power through the curve of the truck manifold, stock 2015 manifold and stock 2011 manifold. They all drop off at 6500 but if you gained power everywhere else that would be a great bang for your buck. Many 1st gen Coyote owners dont want to rev past around 7000-7200K. Every single other manifold in this test would need to be revved to at least 7500 RPM or it would make the car slower vs the stock ones.
Thank you so much for the test! 2018' Bret Barber intake has more HP than the Cobra Jet and more torque than any save the truck intake and it's so cheap. Makes deciding super easy.
I’d say the outcome of the testing is either keep it stock and just shift at 6.6k rpm or waist money to pull an extra 1k rpm with no real hp improvements and potential catastrophic results attempting to get so much way upstairs like that. I love your dyno setup!! Awesome scientific testing done and thank you for that. Not quite the results most would expect but definitely worth the effort.
Yea , unfortunately you extra wrong. People have picked up not only hp gains but tenths off their quarter miles with the 2018 intake because they carry the power out further before shifting . In the next gear the rpms are higher than if they had shifted earlier , helping them stay in the usable power band . I'm going 2018 ported intake , you can run the stock manifold and get gapped if you like 😂
All this info is pretty helpful for mod motor guys too. The 5.4 Navigator has the ability to use these manifolds and the 18+ manifold seems like the hot ticket.
That truck manifold impressed me too. It made more peak horsepower than the boss 302 manifold and average more hp and tq up until 6500rpms. The boss 302 manifold is common on the 5.4 because it fits over the stock alternator location. Honestly, given that the 5.4 4v sbe is only safe to around 6500rpms, the truck manifold may be the best suited to the combo. Thanks for sharing all this!
I have a 2018 f150 in my experience i gained peak Torque lost hardly anything below 3000 Rpm gained everywhere else Switching to cobra jet Intake my 60 foot went down 0.15

Way to use a dyno exactly what its meant to be used for. Awesome content for a video. When it was mentioned on tuning Tuesday I didn't believe we would see it at first.
My 2015 with Long tubes, PMAs, 2018 intake and E85 made 457 as well lol. It was done on a dyno that hooks up to the car with rear wheels removed. On 91 it made 432.
Thanks VMP! I just ordered my 2018 ported manifold with the E85 injectors for my 16 S550. It should give me a good starting platform for my future turbos. Thanks again for your help and great tunes.
The other thing to think about with a manifold replacement is drivability. How smoothly does the car accelerate when not under WOT? The GT350 manifold was built for the voodoo motor and not for the coyote, so while it makes great HP and good TQ, the drivability is not as good as the 2018. That's why I went with the 2018, and I don't regret it for a second!
But with the gt350 manifold when running with a bigger throttle body and adding e85, it out runs that manifold. You need bigger injectors with the gt350 and you get more power after 6500 rpms from e85. It just gives you more power with all the add on's.
@@tommylee7749 I have 1 E85 station within 50 miles and it runs out of it. I wish it were more readily available, but I can't use it. Hp is nice, but as I said in my original reply, drivability of the 2018 is tons better than the GT350 as well... so if you have to live with it on the street and not just WOT at the track, go with the 2018.
got a ported 18 manifold with 2500 miles on it for $20, slapped it on my 17 that same weekend, working at a cord dealership is a big plus😅, you get to keep the cool spare parts
Won`t work. It makes high low end torque because the smaller intake means higher air velocity. Once you port it, it will loose that low end torque, and gain some high end power. It`s a trade off situation. A ported 2018 seems to bee the best compromise to date.
First I love you guys, I think vmp is the best blower you can get...ever! Just wish you could do my car, find a sponsor , or tax write off for me. Being on disability, I know I'll never live my dream of having a supercharged car...I'm 42 and it's been my dream since I was a little kid. Love the videos keep up the great work ...biggest fan jay
Fantastic review! Are these RWHP numbers? Interesting that the F-150 manifold doesn't lag too much behind in terms of peak HP but obliterates them all in torque. Would be a great mod for pure street or auto-cross where minimal time is spent above 6500 rpm. Would love to see how a well ported F-150 manifold performs up top too. Good work! 😎👍
The truck intake is the best power curve for anyone swapping this motor into a car with any manual transmission other than a built T56 cobra spec or better transmission. You just can’t get older synchronization technology to shift much over 6500-6800 Also the older 5 speed transmissions have great gaps that are far larger than newer 6 speed transmissions. One question. Is the torque curve wave due to the variable valve timing?
Great video!!! Wish you would have done the ported stock 15-17 manifold as well, though. Trying to decide, right now, if the gains from an 18 ported over my 15 stock ported would be worth the extra $400 or so. Lol
VIDEO IDEA: Cobra Jet intake manifold (hood closed) vs. 2018+ CNC Ported intake manifold with stock CAI with carbon filter insert removed (hood closed) with fan right next to the upper grille snorkel.
I really wanna see ported truck intake. 3500-6500 it made more average hp and tq than the "top dogs". Its problem was the drop off after 6500 but with a bit of porting, maybe it'll continue to carry that? Might be smoother too
I have swapped my GT intake manifold with a F150 manifold and it's transformed the car in the low to midrange RPMs, which is great for a pure street car. Lots more torque and pulling power. Crispier throttle response too. I prefer it over the GT manifold! I also have long tube headers, 3" exhaust and Steeda CAI with Tune. 😎👍

got a ported 18 manifold with 2500 miles on it for $20, slapped it on my 17 that same weekend, working at a cord dealership is a big plus😅, you get to keep the cool spare parts
Great testing. Just bought a 18 manifold ported because of this data for my F150.
Excellent like ALWAYS VMP!
Thanks for the feedback, I hope you watched as much as possible of the video, there are a lot of details that don't come across at first glance.
Cobra Jet Number 1 still.
2018 Mani Best for the Money by along shot and even better ported.
This video is priceless! Definitely some data I want to know
Top Notch Informational Video. Thanks Guys! 👍👍
Ported truck manifold. Looks like it would make the most torque and with the porting it would catch back up on hp. #headedtothejunkyard
Won`t work. It makes high low end torque because the smaller intake means higher air velocity. Once you port it, it will loose that low end torque, and gain some high end power. It`s a trade off situation. A ported 2018 seems to bee the best compromise to date.
For daily driving I would say the truck intake would be better these 5.0,s have weak low end torque
Thanks for the video, great runs and information. Also love the color scheme of the mustang.
Damn @ 4:06 VMP doesn't use any catch can on their race car, only the upr oil cap breather guess I'll be putting on my stock things.
Truck manifold wins, put up serious gains with no real loss to HP. Street engine needs it
finally! great video, the 18 is the bang for the buck though!
Thank you for this video, everyone was waiting on this. You guys are getting my like 💪🏼
Awesome!
Good work! 😎👍
Thanks for the clear viewpoint, great video
$329 vs $1049 wow and they performed almost the same
Carlos Rodriguez it that the price for the 18 vs CJ???? I'm sure it's an extra few hundred dollars for port work.
I'm sure he was talking about the 18 and gt350 cost. But keep in mind, they didn't add the gt350 throttle body to it, that sucks in more air.
Well, Im thinking if the 18 has gt350 tb, its still gonna be badass and a better option for less.
The 18 intake was cnc ported how much was that?
Multiple tuners say that the gt350 throttle body provides no noticeable gains.
Need to do a ported boss and stock manifold test
Best test ever!
The truck intake is the best power curve for anyone swapping this motor into a car with any manual transmission other than a built T56 cobra spec or better transmission.
You just can’t get older synchronization technology to shift much over 6500-6800
Also the older 5 speed transmissions have great gaps that are far larger than newer 6 speed transmissions.
One question. Is the torque curve wave due to the variable valve timing?
To me it looks like the gt 350 is the winner? Is cost the reason it did not win?
Great video!!! Wish you would have done the ported stock 15-17 manifold as well, though. Trying to decide, right now, if the gains from an 18 ported over my 15 stock ported would be worth the extra $400 or so. Lol
I was gonna buy the 18 intake anyways for my coyote swap so hell yeah
VIDEO IDEA: Cobra Jet intake manifold (hood closed) vs. 2018+ CNC Ported intake manifold with stock CAI with carbon filter insert removed (hood closed) with fan right next to the upper grille snorkel.
I really wanna see ported truck intake. 3500-6500 it made more average hp and tq than the "top dogs". Its problem was the drop off after 6500 but with a bit of porting, maybe it'll continue to carry that? Might be smoother too
Awesome test, but I would like to see one of those Holley sheet metal intakes in the test.
Did you guys tune per manifold? Find it kinda hard go believe a truck mani out flows the boss mani.
Awesome video.... just signed up for notifications!
Sweet!! 💪 - Max
Do you have a gen 1 or gen 2 gt
@@momogt09 Sorry, I have a 2017 GT mate
