One Piece Dub - Zoro Doesn't Believe In God (Uncut Vs. Cartoon Network Edit)

- Funimation rewrote the dialogue in this scene so Zoro (Zolo in the edit) is nonchalant about a King rather than not believing in God, they also got rid of some profanity as well. Also, a recurring edit: priests were changed to knights in the Skypiea arc.
Note: According to old forums, the closed captioning often had the uncensored dialogue instead of the softened Cartoon Network track.

I was too young to know that there was a TV version of this dub. So this feels like stumbling on a parallel universe.
???Theres a Cartoon Network version… that’s the exact same but made more appropriate to children slightly? I respect that. Better then 4 Kids
CN/Funi did a good job in making OP suitable for children without compromising the spirit of the show or even watering down the intensity of more violent and emotional scenes. Wish this version had more success fr.
It was done to continue from where 4kids ended they stopped this after skypiea

@@MichaelMixerMasonGASS problem with the dub is the change of wording and acting isn’t always that good and some voices don’t fit imo

there's something satisfyingly surreal about hearing the funi VAs use "Zolo" instead of "Zoro"

I love that they refer to enel as "king" and the priests as "knights" but they still have Nami very blatantly praying here. I guess there wasn't a good way around it but it's pretty funny

I knew there was a funi dub that aired on Cartoon Network. I remember being use to the 4kids dub (yes I use to actually like that version as a kid) and slightly confused first seeing the funi dub with the new voice and music which the latter was the anime’s true soundtrack.
the uncut version is way more badass.

Interesting word change. Can't kill God in cartoons on a kids network. Do you have more of these? It would be awesome to see some more differences. I rarely see clips from the funimation dub when it aired on CN.
Yeah I downloaded the all the funi CN edited episodes almost two years ago, I’ll definitely be uploading more comparisons

Where did you find the Funimation Toonami One Piece episode edits? I seen the 4kids dubs one but I’ve never come across the ones that Funimation dubbed after they took over the dub for 4kids that aired on Toonami???? Haven’t seen them since they aired years ago on Toonami.

One of the biggest points of the Skypeia arc is that it's arrogant for a powerful person like Enel to refer to themselves as a god. He underestimated his opponents out of sheer hubris and found out the hard way. If anything, it's totally in line with Christianity, in that there are no gods besides the one true God and no other should be worshipped.
Every time I hear Zolo it feels super off. Especially since I watched the version of the dub were they call him zoro
It definitely does 😭😭 they did have to keep some continuity with the 4Kids dub on the CN version but Zolo coming from Funimation still throws me off lol
not to mention that Zolo doesn’t exactly sound like a name you would take seriously
I’m honestly fond of that, especially since VIZ calls him that in the manga translation. I alternate between Zolo and Zoro.

Zoro should know that God is indestructible and can’t be defeated at all. He’s my favorite character and I love him even if he’s an atheist, but he has no idea what God could do to him if Zoro were to dare fight him

Why did they change Zoro to Zolo? The meaning behind the word Zolo and Zoro. Personally, Zoro sounds cooler and has interesting meaning behind it.
CN premiered Funi’s Dub only a week after they aired the last 4Kids episode, so they kept some of 4Kids’ continuity for broadcast so younger/causal viewers wouldn’t be confused
They changed zoro’s to zolo so they don’t copyrighted by Disney’s zorro

I mean realistically she couldn’t have done anything to beat him, both zoro and presumably luffy were taken out and she was on her own, later she attacks enel because she doesn’t want to live without the crew
@@jackthestar1292 that didn't stop Robin from getting electrecuted, and she mostly known for being part of many groups/organization in the past even before Baroque works

The Hog Rider is a fast ground troop with medium hit points, low damage, and the ability to jump over enemy Walls. He is unlocked at level 2 Dark Barracks.
The Hog Rider (person) is a bare-chested dark-skinned man holding a hammer. He has a Mohawk, wears a brown leather loincloth, a red belt, and a pair of leather sandals, as well as two large golden wristbands and a gold earring.
His ride is a large hog, about half his height. It has a brown leather bridle looped around its tusks, which in turn is held by the Hog Rider.
Hog Riders prioritize defensive structures above all other targets, and will bypass all other types of enemy buildings and troops while any defenses remain on the battlefield. This is true even if they are under attack by enemy Clan Castle troops, heroes or Skeleton Trap skeletons. Note that like all troops that prioritize defenses, Hog Riders do not consider the Clan Castle to be a defense regardless of whether or not it contains enemy troops, but do consider the defending Grand Warden and the activated Town Hall weapon (if any) to be defensive buildings.
Once all defenses are destroyed, Hog Riders become like any other troop with no preferred target; they will attack the nearest building to them regardless of type, and will turn and attack enemy units if they become aware of any nearby.

Most children networks don’t allow religious references cause of S&P, especially saying you don’t believe in God.
It’s silly but parent watchgroups/moral guardians tend to view scenes like this as condemning religion or valuing one religion over another, which could cause controversy. CN doesn’t want that, so they had to change it. They also changed the Skypiea priests to knights.
In the sub he just says "I've never once prayed to God."
