    Riding mower tire tubes are frustrating to put in sometimes, but after doing quite a few of these I wanted to share the way I do them which seems to work well. Just a few basic tools and a floor jack and some patience will get the tube in with minimal issue. Hope this helps out some folks!

    Great video! I was able to put mine in in about 15 minutes. Thankfully the tire was completely flat from over the winter,and the bead was already broken. I had watched other videos on the same subject,and by far yours was the most informative. Thankyou so much.

    Thanks so much for posting this video! I also was able to install a tube today using this video although we cut the 1st tube using a screw driver. Huge Tip: We had the random idea to try the round end of a box wrench to push the tube under the tire wall and that works super smoothly!!!

    Great video! Love my LT2000, bought it brand new 13 years ago, and last year had new blades put on and carb rebuilt. The thing is a beast! Thanks for the very helpful tips- wish I'd watched this BEFORE trying to change the 20x8 rear tube on my backup Troy-Bilt. Yeah, I popped it...

      Thanks for watching! I've popped a few tubes myself even with this method. It isn't the easiest thing to do!

    3 things, #1, after putting valve stem thru the wheel, turn your core removal tool 180 degrees and screw it onto valve stem as if it were the cap. This eliminates using vice grips to keep from swallowing the valve stem. #2, instead of a screwdriver, use the padded end of your water pump pliers to shove the tube into the tire. Easier on your fingers. #3, I used bar clamps to collapse the tire and give me room to get the tube into the tire. Buy or borrow, they make it lots easier.

    I had to take one off the wheel because it had sat flat in a ditch so had dirt, leaves and bark in it with quite a bit of rust. Tire was pretty old and hard but not cracked through. Squirted WD40 on the bead and wheel for slipperiness, mounted the back side, bolted it to my work table, and tubed it like you do. It will work just fine. Thanks for your tips.

    Just a heads up, the solid blue line on the tube faces the back side of the tire, no need to blow it up, just look for the solid line.

    Very helpful video..Even took less time than you advised..Plus no pry bar, just long screwdrivers.Glad you mentioned about hearing the air hiss out but not to worry as it was just the inner-tube displacing the air in the tyre .Back to moving the grass in 35c heat!!!

    I see other videos where they're squirting Dawn soap detergent all over the tube and it goes in faster and easier. good idea with the vice grips on the valve stem.

    • @EllisMowersandmore

      Dawn does help too. Heating up the tire itself if it isn't already warm outside to make it more flexible is another way to make life easier as well.

    I have put many tubes in tires. Been cutting lawns for over 74 years. Once the bead is broke you can slide the tube right in. Why make an unneccesary job out of it by pulling the tire out?

  • @anthonybuchan972
    @anthonybuchan972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey the blue line circle on the tube always goes down that's all you need to know oh instead useing vise grips on the valve stem use a valve stem remover tool it screws right on there but great video I've tried that way my hands are way to big

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know! I've done the valve stem trick before but use the vice grips so I can put air in it without the stem trying to go back in the tire before I inflate it. Any tire smaller than this one is a pain to do like this!

    When the tire is dry rotted like yours ...the splinters from the degrading tire will puncture the tube, it will not last anytime at all.

      Here is a better trick for that. First the Valve tool he has, come with a valve tread die for cleaning the threads. It can be treaded onto the valve so the stem won't fall back in.
      However these are better.
      They are called valve stem extenders. You put one of them on after you get the stem in. The J one works great. It prevents the stem from sliding back in and it gives you a handle. But unlike the valve tool , you can use it to fill the tire while holding it in place. This will keep you from tearing the stem with vice grips. The extender tool kit works even better.
      One last thing. Instead of wasting all that time getting the tube in by pushing it, PULL IT. Get some nylon webbing or use a ratchet strap. Break both beads. Feed the strap threw the tire , threw the tube and back threw the tire. Do this in three places. You will be able to pull the tube in. Sitting on the floor, pushing the tire away from you while pulling make this a snap.
      Trick to getting the webbing in to the other side is the coat hanger loop trick.

    I think gloves are going to make it difficult to poke the tube back in. Maybe hire a pianist with strong thin fingers.
    But seriously, is it any easier with the wheel off? I guess not...

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried wheel off and it is a little more cumbersome because you're fighting the wheel and tube vs using the tire and weight of the mower to help. I also did this in cold weather which made it more difficult as well.
