    Great Video! I've also been doing small engine repairs for years. Those high compression/high HP single cylinder Intek Briggs motors are probably the worst out there. Almost every single one I've dealt with has had valve issues or broken compression relief assemblies. Normally I don't bother tearing them down, I just repower the tractor with a more reliable engine. Also I'll add a #5 to your list of common issues... That's steering shaft bushings lol

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the newer Inteks are bad for the valve and cams, and the 2016+ are just pure trash. The older ones for the steering, yes, this one has the updated disc steering which is much better.

    I just picked up a Bolen rider from my son that he didn't need anymore but gave up on it's issues. I got it home and as I suspected was hydralocked and would not turn over. The carbs on these are junk but can be fixed. I pulled the spark plug and spun the motor with my Drill motor. Gas was flying out the cylinder. I put oil in there and spun it by hand so at least has some lubricant in there for now. Will order a carb kit this week. Will sell it when done since neither my son or I need it

Thank You So Very Much for the Great information on the Lt1000. a friend gave me a craftsman LT1000 without the mowing deck. but it does have the B&S 15.5 hp engine in it. and a six speed tranny. i always use anti seize on the axels so if i have to take the tires off they come off easy. :)

    Those Lt1000s Craftsman's are prone to having decks cut unlevel on one side .you can fix the hoods too with simple small 90 degree metal bracket from the hardware store if it's real bad.i have done it in the past and works great.the pto cable snap too the cable in the sleeve from water running down it being left outside and the plastic clip that goes on the engagement lever breaks too.btw great videos man keep em coming I enjoy them every time and very detailed.🤟👍

      This may sound hokey or silly, but check to see if all 4 tires are inflated to the proper pressure.A few psi's can make a difference in deck height,one side to the other.

    @ Ellis Mowers I have the Lt1000 Intec 17.5. just had to change the steering assembly which btw is probably more common than even those you mentioned due to the poor design.
    but now I can't get it to start.
    I removed the deck to make it easier to get to the steering assembly bolts.
    Don't know if I bopped something or what because now it turns once then I have to let off the key or the solenoid will click.
    I just put a new battery in it about a month ago, and it seems like it is just not getting enough juice.
    The connections on the battery are tight and 1 of the connections from the solenoid to the starter I was able to move by hand,
    I tightened that up and even tried using my jump box, but it still just turns once.
    I'm the grounds person for my apartment complex and the grass needs to be cut badly!
    If you have any hints or recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could check your battery, you may have left the switch on which will drain it over time. Or it could be the starter solenoid. If it attempts to crank then it won't be any safety switches.

      just don't have time to wait for it to be delivered.

I just put a new battery so that's not it. I'm guessing it's the starter or the starter solenoid. The positive red wire was super hot as well as the starter was hot too after i tried to start it. • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably have an issue with a compression release on the camshaft inside the engine. If the starter and starter wire are hot it's usually not the solenoid or starter.

      Look up valve adjustment. He shows the valve cover and then the valves starting at 20:26 in the video. There are other videos that show setting the valves and how if they are not set the engine won't start and magically it starts once those two bolts get a little tighter. Basically use a feeler gauge and set the tightness of two bolts (one for each valve) to make them tighter using a 0.004" feeler gauge. You want 4 thousandths feeler gauge. If your valve cans are loose you got a problem there.
      Adjust the bolts till the feeler gauge barely slides under the valve cam. There are videos on this.

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it isn't smoking belts you might have an issue with water in the fuel or may have a blockage in the fuel line. Since the blades demand more fuel, you may have enough gas to keep it running without the blades but not enough with the blades on.

      @EllisMowersandmore  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a shift linkage in the front of the transmission that connects the shifter to the transmission. See if it is broken. It's a short straight piece around 4" long that you should see under the tractor near the front of the transmission. If it's still "shifting" but won't move you either have a bad transmission, or the key in one of the rear wheels has either fallen out or sheared.

    • @walking_introvert
      @walking_introvert 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your clutch pedal seems easier to press now than before, you probably broke the clutch spring that attaches to the front of the tractor frame. Part #105709X which attaches to bellcrank clutch assembly bracket. "Craftsman clutch spring replacement" is name of video on TH-cam showing this.

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it's really thick grass it may not be able to discharge it fast enough and may just be clogging up. If it's not a clogging issue it may be a governor or throttle linkage issue but you would notice RPMs running really high when you didn't have the blades on.

      Yes it is high throttle but when I hit harass like 6 inches tall or a lil taller the RPMs do not pick up.
      The they drop and the blades start to get slower.
      I stop and throttle goes back up.
      Have to mow in 1st gear.
      And that SUCKS LOL!
      So how do adjust the governor or throttle linkage..

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@frededwards8386 Truthfully everything is probably working fine on the mower, 6 inch grass is a lot for that mower to handle at a higher speed than 1st. If you haven't already I would try to lift the discharge chute up a little so it discharges the grass out further. Grass gets really thick this time of year and it sounds like it may be a little too much for the machine to handle. Governor adjustment is on the left rear of a Briggs single. I don't have a governor adjustment video but there are tons out there if you type in your engine type into TH-cam.

      @@EllisMowersandmore Original problem was the belt was jumping off the large tranny pulley. I checked the tensioner pulleys (were OK) & looked at the guides. The large guide that is across the large tranny pulley was out of it's retainer hole on the left side. No bolt or restraint, just pokes the end into a hole in the tranny. Pretty poor setup... might have to remove it & bend the guide bar a bit to give it tighter fit into the hole to keep it from jumping or vibrating out... Maybe belt is stretched, but it looks OK.

      Make sure your belt is in good shape and not loose when you have the park brake off, and make sure your big pulley on the transaxle is in good condition and not wobbly or slipping on the keyway. If both check out good you're probably looking at a new transaxle.

      Throttle might be out of adjustment, the cable adjustment is located on the left side of the machine.

    How do change a key switch on a craftsman machine?

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unplug the wires from the back of the machine behind the dash, there are two clips that hold the switch in. You have to squeeze both clips in at the same time and the switch will pop out the front of the dash.

      It's likely that you have a pulley that is pinched, or you have an issue with pulley alignment.

      Either one of the safety switches is not closed, or you have a blown fuse.

      Probably have a broken blade engage cable as long as the belt is on the mower correctly.

      Probably an issue with a bad drive belt or one that has slipped off.
