I have a 2023 Tahoe High Country. So after my trial free subscription expired I use my phone as a hotspot, connect the Tahoe to it and use the vehicle's built in google maps for navigation. I have unlimited data on my phone plan. Sometime I use Android Auto if I want to use waze which is on my phone. I don't seem to use a lot of data either way. When it's parked in my garage I have it connect to my home wifi. That way whatever needs updating it will always be updated automatically.
@ OK thank you so much. Mine was working fine when I updated my iPhone and then in the last couple days, it quit working wirelessly if I plug it in it does work but wireless it does not.
So if I have an address and I want to add a name to the favorites, but it only shows the address. I added a label, but that still only shows an address, so instead of pulling up a name, I have to pull up an address, which I don't ever remember. How to I save it under a name?
Problem is, I like to switch the maps to screen in front of driver and have music up on the middle screen. With car play, iPhone, you cannot do this with google maps. Only Apple Maps when connected to car play.
I dont understand the need to not use data, natively (at least on a Pixel) google maps will download maps offline automatically for the area you live in. And then it will use data for all the telemetrics or if you go outside of the auto offline download area. However, I use data every single day to drive around in my Sierra in the GTA and I barely use 1GB of data in one month, so I dont understand why people get fussy over the usage of data for this use case. Is very little bandwidth if you're not streaming the map.
I hear what you’re saying, personally I use Google Maps with my Apple CarPlay connected to my vehicle but I wanted to show a work around for the GM subscription service. With the navigation that comes with the truck, you wouldn’t have to use data so this is the equivalent work around for that.
I don’t understand how your phone automatically sends the trip to the truck. Mine doesn’t do that. I have the offline map. Connected to the trucks via Bluetooth. Is it because I have an iPhone? Whatever it is, this doesn’t work for me unless you’re skipping how your phone is connected to the truck. 2024 Silverado
@@fredg8814 They are charging for the vehicle to have it's own data connection. Enables features to work with no cell phone involved. Apps are free to use and can be powered by using your phone as a hotspot instead of paying the monthly fee for the vehicle to have it's own Wifi/data connection.
Great tips! Also your channel has gotta have the best intro 🔥
Thank you Peter!!

That’s smart! I think the key is having unlimited data on your phone plan and you’ll be fine.
So use the phone as a hot spot & we can still have live maps? Also connect to the shops wifi if any updates come across?
Bad ass thank you
Simply turn on the Hotspot on your phone... and the connect your truck to the Hotspot on your phone 😊
Are you having any issues with your Apple CarPlay connecting wirelessly because of the 18.1 iOS update
No issues as of yet

Yeah that’s true
Couldn’t you also use your phone as a cellular hotspot to work around as well?
Yeah, you can do that. I was just showing a way without using cellular data.
You can’t properly make a call either this way correct?

Try using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I was using Apple CarPlay in this video to transfer the trip/offline map from my phone to the truck.
Try using Apple CarPlay, it will allow you to transfer the offline maps from your phone to the truck. I was using Apple CarPlay in this video.
I understand that GM is discontinuing Android Auto for 2025. Mary Barra is predatory. These policies may destroy GM ..... again.
Not sure how GM is getting away with charging subscription fees to use a free service from an other company.
