By removing the wheels on your Takeoff luggage, your carryon becomes a personal item which can save big money when flying spirit airlines or any budget airline. This travel tip can save you a lot of money on baggage fees with the purchase of one bag! If you are a frequent traveler on budget airlines, like Spirit, you need to get yourself some Takeoff luggage which you can do further down in the description.

Wear bulky items you don't pack. For a year or two I had a favorite field jacket with deep pockets and I wore that until it was falling apart. With tons of pockets they can't cite me at the desk because everything technically fit in my carry-on, Pockets don't count!😂

I’ve honestly adopted so many of your tips that I don’t know what I was thinking before then! I’ve definitely stayed away from Spirit for all the reasons you said, but that TakeOFF luggage would make me feel like a travel gangster. I could see myself telling them, “try me!” 😜🙈

I’ve never considered flying with them before because of all the horror stories I’ve heard. And you’re right, that was awful they didn’t let that poor child keep a babydoll. PS. I love that you got married in New Orleans. I wanted to get married there too but planning a wedding from far away seemed so impossible to me. I imagined getting married at Oak Alley plantation (where they filmed Interview with the Vampire) or maybe some cool garden spot in the French Quarter. I also thought it would be way cool to have a jazz procession taking us down the streets of the French quarter while we were ride in a carriage. I know they usually do that for funerals, but it sounded so cool!
It was incredible. We hired a wedding planner to help from afar. The hardest part was Covid. We got engaged january of 2020, and married in April 2021. You can imagine the nightmare.
We didn’t get to have a second line parade (officially) but we did hire a brass band to play in the street and in our garden. It was awesome 💕

Jeans are from American Eagle! And I’m a total SHEIN girl :)
If TakeOff made a polycarbonate case without the extending handle (which takes up so much space).. and not really needing the wheels because the weight of a personal item is not that great I would love to see this suitcase with a cross-body strap. Although my totes and mini duffels always fit, a perfectly sized rectangular polycarbonate shell would take full advantage of the space!
I just need to invent my own luggage as I'm so picky... but big congratulations to the company as I've read several pieces on them since becoming aware on your channel Lauren!
And by the way, I could just imagine you scouting for a spirit employee to dare you to drop it into the sizing box! 😂
I've never traveled spirit but I've traveled RyanAir and they have the same restrictions and you get really crafty - like your bumbag/purse under yoursweater...
I actually love it for short flights because you're not stuck behind someone with three pieces of luggage! I flew to Greece on a budget airline with personal item only and the person in front of me must have paid three times their boarding fee because they had a huge amount of luggage. It's Greece people. All you need is a couple of bikini tops, sarong, a loose white blouse.. flip-flops (aka thongs 🇦🇺), toss on a sun hat and you're 👍🏻

Wow, that was a ride and half. This is why I just pay the extra and fly the big airlines, I'm too old and tired for all that drama. By the way, I'm on a 7 night trip to WDW right now so I packed my bags two ways, once with packing cubes and once without. Might just be the way I packed either the cubes or the suitcase, but I had more room without the cubes. I could squish more things in and around the clothes without the cubes then I could with the cubes tightly packed.
So much drama! But you technically made money on the flight 😉 Great hacks for Spirit Airlines.

That Take Off luggage looks great. How durable do you think the removable wheels are for frequent traveling? I am still struggling with choosing a piece of carry on luggage that will fit most every airline. Also maybe you could do a follow up video- What fits on a piece of Take-Off luggage - just for comparison with some others.

It’s not going to be as durable as something like the July carry on light (which is 3.9 pounds) but they do have more wheels you can buy just Incase.

@@ItsTheKellys yeah I'm on such a strict budget that I try to do as much research as possible beforehand my friends think I'm nuts but I save money from getting stuck as much as possible. sometimes you absolutely can't help it like in your CDG and New Orleans videos but thankfully you were flexible!
This may seem like a silly question but once you put luggage in sizer to show agent at gate that it fits, can you put wheels back on to wheel on plane and leave the wheels on under the seat?
That’s exactly what I did 😂 once I passed that door, they were back on!

How do the wheels roll on the the takeoff luggage? Is it hard to push when all 4 wheels on the ground, or drag when using 2 wheels? That is the make it or break it for me as I travel with kids and need something that isn’t heavy to move around.

The xl won’t work for hacking budget airlines as a personal item. So depends on what you want it for :)

It’s just to cross past the gate agent. That’s the only “test” you have to pass. You take it off for security, like normal
the fanny pack hack is something i do too.oversized boyfriend sweatshirt and tuck a fanny pack underneath lol

I had it on normal the whole time except for boarding the plane and therefore hacking the rules. So yes, take it off for security :)

Looking for a recommendation, please :) I would like to buy my friend a nice small luggage for her 6 year old son. Something small, spinner wheels, and a trolley sleeve so mom can throw it on her suitcase when he gets tired of pulling it. Nothing too cartoonish so that he can use it for a long time without “growing out” of it. Ideas?
So if you want a small suitcase with wheels, there usually isn’t a trolley sleeve.

Otherwise you could get something the size of this one and attach it to the mom’s bag with the cincha travel belt :)

If you would have fly with Spirit, so you think you could have put the luggage on top of you instead of at your feet? I guess if you put it at your feet it means that you might lack room for your feet... :(
I’ve had this luggage for a while now. I’ve tested the wheels a lot and have put them on and off for months for various videos, and my nephew plays with them all the time. Haha.
Technically a personal item isn’t supposed to go overhead, but you can always try to put it up there, I’m sure it would be fine. I put it at my feet to show how it fits, but I would have loved to put it on top :)
