  • I've taught you how to layover (for beginners) and now it's time to teach you how to handle a long layover.
    Some airport layovers are 5 hours, and some are even 24 hours. I will help you pick which type of long airport layover is right for you, (Hint: don't switch airports!) what to do on a layover, and help you decide to leave the airport or not.

    I just found your channel! I'm binge watching & loving it! I am an American married to an Aussie and living in Australia. We travel once or twice a year between the two countries...it's a long trip most often with long layovers. I just wanted to caution people who might want to leave the airport during a layover in a country that's not your final destination, that you might have to apply for a tourist visa in advance if you're going to leave the international section of the airport or leave the airport at all. Sometimes you can get a visa at the airport if you want to leave and play tourist before your next flight. But I'd check first! Thanks for all your wonderful advice...love your channel! 😊

      We live in arguably the most famous wine region in Australia, The Barossa Valley, in South Australia. And we love it! I've been to all but the Northern Territory in the ten years I've lived in Oz with my husband, and I have yet to find anywhere else in Australia that I'd rather live! While you're here if you get the chance to fly to the Adelaide area in "SA" do it! And come visit us here in The Barossa. 😊@@ItsTheKellys

    My last layover was 7 hrs so we Ubered to Texas Live in Arlington, where all the stadiums are. It was empty due to Covid, but we found one open BBQ place that was great and got a free tour of the newest stadium, because no one was there and the tour guy was bored and so happy to give a tour! Had no problem ubering from Dallas, but Arlington is 30 min away and since it’s empty thanks to Covid, no Ubers we’re waiting nearby. We had to add Lyft to a phone and use them instead. We had a great time and luckily made it in time for our flight. We were getting a bit worried when we couldn’t find an Uber. Our original driver said he could pick us up if he was in Dallas, but when we called him, he was Uber a customer too far from us.

    Lauren, you make the best videos! Your experience shows, as every topic is covered thoroughly! I've never had a long enough layover to leave the airport, but kinda looking forward to doing that someday! Your list of ways to kill time was fun! I think I'll do lunges while walking and people-watch at the same time. LOL! I'm sure I'll get some strange looks from others who are people-watching! Gotta love a good layover.

    A 3 hour layover sounds like a lot, but by the time you grab a snack, find gate, etc. you'll be down to about an hours worth of time. Most planes board 45min to an hour early, so the reality is that 3 hours is just about enough time for a comfortable transfer. An hour would be rough, two hours would prob be fine, but 3 is about perfect, however I do everything in my power to avoid connections!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! Sometimes I look forward to 5 hour ones, just to explore the airport a bit. At the Istanbul airport, I go to the spa! Haha

    I would definitely recommend getting access to a lounge if your layover is three hours or more.
    It's out of the main hustle and bustle of the general departure lounge, the seats are comfy, food and drink is included plus free wifi and charging points. There are even showers if you pay a little extra.
    I would however strongly suggest that you get to the terminal that you are flying from and go through any customs/security before going to the lounge. Then set an alarm for at least an hour before boarding time of your next flight, just in case you fall asleep.

    Yes!!! Yes!! We have a three hour layover in Houston coming back from Costa Rica and we nearly missed our flight Bcz they lines were sooooooo long and TSA pre check and global entry was not an option. Layovers needs to be more than three hours if it’s international. It was horrible.

    I love long layovers. I people-watch, wander the terminal, browse the shops, try different foods and drinks. Airports are expensive places to buy anything, but for me it is part of the travel experience. I treat every layover as though it is the only time I will ever be in that location, which it very well could be. So I like to remain positive even when things aren't going as well as they could. I am obsessive about keeping up on my flight information and love reading when I've done all the walking and visiting I can. So far, I've never left an airport on a layover, I'm not that adventurous. :)

    Traveling Internationally with a 4 year old... We have two 12 hour layovers ... I'm wondering if American airlines would put us on an earlier flight so that we could book a hotel on out last layover, and return to the airport the next morning for our last leg of the flight...3 flights ....two days...lord help us.

    Hi I am flying from Vancouver to Fresno in a couple weeks but I have a connecting flight in Seattle. Would I have to clear customs in YVR at first or will I clear customs in Seattle?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would assume your first entry into the US would be when you do customs, because that’s what it normally would be, but I’ve never done that route. Just be prepared for it, hopefully you have some time :)

    Loved the video and will be trying out your tips. Do you know if I will require a visa in Germany if I will not be leaving the airport? I am flying from South Africa to Brazil and will be connecting in Frankfurt Germany. Thanks,

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will likely have some sort of passport check at least in Frankfurt between flights. Even if it’s not a visa stamp, there will likely be some sort of passport security during your transfer. Enjoy your trip!
