      I would give us the ability to grow additional limbs... such as gills or wings.
      That's what we need to explore where scientists wont or refuse to go.
      That way we will get more answers among ourselfs and would'nt have to listen to and rely on scientists "correct and only explanation".

    I'm half Navajo and my mom's side of the family all reside on the reservation in northern Arizona. So many stories of skin walkers. Creepy stuff out there. But it's also so beautiful and peaceful! I love visiting! But the atmosphere does seem to shift at night in a spooky way. Love the videos Darkness! 😆 Especially this one! I think the first story was the creepy pasta.

    • @tg3307
      @tg3307 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you said it perfectly. My mom’s house is in a very rural area that’s beautiful during the day, but shifts at night. Not only are there real threats of dangerous animals that can’t be seen in the dark so dark you can barely see past your nose, but it almost feels like something mysterious accompanies it. At night, I do not take a step beyond the door without a flashlight in hand, and even then, I don’t dare go more than a few steps from the porch.

    • @InVinoVeratas
      @InVinoVeratas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      As an indigenous, I agree. It’s a precautionary tale about always keeping an eye out on babies and toddlers. It’s a lot like the same story of a spirit in the Inuit Territory, about an Ice Witch, I believe (or loosely translated as such) that similarly takes children/babies in the same fashion of [“If baby/toddler is left alone, bad thing happen”,_ which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, it accomplishes the goal of keeping the children away from dangerous areas, and being aware of said dangers in the wilderness. Though it could be in reference to Coywolves, a cross breed between Coyote and Wolf, but I doubt it since this was near desert territory, and wolves don’t tend to go where prey is vacant. They’re predators and scavengers at times, but mostly Apex predators.

      @@InVinoVeratas Agree that its a great cautionary tale to make sure to keep an eye on the children. I would love to hear the tale of the ice witch as well! I love hearing these stories.

      Was he abusive? Like a _wild man?_ But it was great so ya couldn't just walk away from it? Then gradually he was only interested in talking to the back of your head? After many a sleepless night and many a soiled sheet, ye became distant and shrouded in melancholy? The passion which once burned as intensely as a thousand Kuwaiti oil wells is now the flicker of a lighter in a cold and damp swamp of sorrow. Alas, such is matters of the heart. The mighty roar of romance and the sorrowful grunt of expulsion....

      As a native, anyone born on this land is _“American”_ from Canada, to Mexico. I’d include South America too tbh, the native population there are still fighting for rainforests from loggers. There are no _“truer”_ Americans, that’s like saying only select demographics deserve something more than another. But the fact is, our traditional beliefs shared across all indigenous nations, is that we are destined to share this land, but also protect it from harm. That is what makes a true native, in my opinion, one who dedicated to protecting the land and all who inhabit it, equally. From the smallest life forms, to the most impressive, all deserve an equal chance to live. And it doesn’t matter where you come from, or what you believe in, so long as you intend to live in harmony with the land and each other.

    4 and 5 are the most plausible. 2 is sketchy, but can be an embellished account. 1 and 3 are the most creepy pasta-ish. Story 1 over-describes everything and neatly justifies everything that happens with mother's explanation(which btw would be BS because this world would be filled with baby screaming coyote spirits). Story 3 gave themselves powers to make themselves more special than everyone else(really common aspect of these fanfics) and is put in an outlandish situation with outlandish reactions by all participating characters. I would say story 3 is very likely the creepy pasta though Story 1 gives it a run for it's money.

    I was raised on a reservation in Southern California, my mom was Native American, and my dad was 100% Scottish. My brothers and I were raised by our maternal grandparents. My grandmother always told us to be in the house by 2:am because that's when the dead did their visiting through dreams. Our cousin used to whistle the theme to the good, the bad and the ugly so we knew he was coming over. Gary had died and on the night of his funeral, my brother, another cousin and I were sitting outside talking about him and how much we missed him. At 1: am grandma came out and told us the time and said remember to be in by 2 we said OK, well she came out every 15 minutes to remind us. We kinda thought grandma was goofy, at 1:55 she said you better come in, we said ok and kept talking, well, we freaked out, at 2 am we heard Gary's whistle and we tried to get in the door at the same time, our cousin that was with us called her mom and said I'm staying at auntie's house, grandma said I told you, you heard his whistle, we said yes and none of us kids slept that night, afraid of hearing a knock at the door.

    The about the draggers was sad, imagine a baby being ripped apart, screaming for their mother. Then the poor soul wanders the land at night, forever, lost ,scared, and hideous.
    (edit) I’m going to expand upon my comment a little. While the draggers story may be creepy pasta. We kind of have to remember that we have a love/hate relationship with canids. We love our dogs, but we fear wild ones. The wolves, coyotes, even stray domestic dogs can pose a threat to adult humans. I don’t doubt ancient people feared them. If a small child were to wander away from the safety of a village, especially at night, then yes it’s very possible a pack of coyotes could take a child. If anyone can remember, back in the 80s a pack of dingos in Australia carried off a baby. (Yes I’m aware of the joke). I would love to be able to hear my ancestor’s stories and to find out if there were some hidden truths to their legends.

    I am studying cultural anthropology and many times we deal with oral histories and myths surrounding a certain tribe. Several times in my classes the topic of little people or windigo has been mentioned. Though not as a physical being, more as a story to understand the association a tribe has with their surroundings. It is interesting that even in academia these topics that I love are being talked about.

    • @sinare-9090

      I bet that is a really fun and interesting class and even course of study to be taking. To me at least, it sounds like the kind of class I would love to be able to just sit in and listen to the stories/histories.
      Just out of curiosity, has your class discussed the stories from the Hopi tribe (I'm pretty sure this is a Hopi legend at least, I could be wrong though...) of the ant people?
      Would love to hear if you all have discussed that one at all. If not, would definitely recommend bringing it up in class. It's not just really interesting on it's own, but is also an extremely unique race of beings the tribe was aware of, and most curious, it was a race that the tribe knew built a certain style of structure that was referred to as "ant hills" but today we know these structures more commonly as pyramids 🤔

      Oh that is an interesting topic! We do study on the southwest native Americans and their tribes, but since I live in Alaska they focus primarily in-depth about the people in the Pacific Northwest. This is really interesting, but do you know the show called monster quest? I used to love watching it, there were so many cryptid showcased there. At a job hunt conference when we were all sitting down around the dining hall I overheard two elders talking about their nephew. The nephew seemed to be an important figure in some tribe council and he was living down in Illinois. Then they said that nephew appeared on the tv show monster quest on the topic of thunderbird and that he personally saw one. It’s just interesting how there supposed myth or legends most people say are somewhat treated as real experience in my surroundings.

  • @mharder5262
    @mharder5262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't know about the draggers story being true but where i live there's a behavior we call running the dogs. A pair of coyotes will take turns luring a farm dog out. The dogs will usually turn back before they're in danger but the coyotes will do it again and again switching out so that while the dog is getting tired they are not. Then when the dog is tired out or makes a mistake and goes out too far they take it. I observed this once with my neighbor's dog out in their field and when i talked to the neighbor later he said "if the dog had gone out one more time they'd have had him but he was either smart enough or tired enough to stay near the tractor after the 4th time they lured him out." He didn't have a gun in his tractor so all he could do was watch and call the dog back when it started to run. If they're smart enough to do that...i think i can believe the draggers story easy enough.
    Ok hadn't finished listening to the story. I can believe the story of coyotes distracting people to steal others but maybe not so much the baby faced coyote.

    • @shewolf5098
      @shewolf5098 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok yes that I can agree with as I've seen the same thing done, but a baby face naw I'm good the story had me at them doing team work to get food even if it was a baby it just goes to show how smart nature can be. I've also seen wolves do the same only with a doe and faun, 3 to distract her so she didn't see the 4th sneaking in and grabbing her baby. Sneaky technique if you ask me it was like watching somebody do a slight of hand trick on a sidewalk.

    Calling something a Mythology usually implies that it is a dead belief system (aka celtic mythology, ancient egyptian mythology etc ) but native american stories are still part of a very alive religion. so i dunno shouldn't those stories be told by sb who is native american? if they even want because it sounds like talking about some of the things is a taboo for them. Like I am genuinely curious because I live in Europe but from here it often looks like americans go, take native american stories and go "ours now!!" but maybe it's different when you live there??

      Everything starts as a story that passes from one level to another
      Story- something that happened and might be true
      Legend- true story changed over the years but none the less true
      Myth- story/legend lucky enough to last this long through history.
      The only thing is when it supposedly happened that's puts it in one of the categories listed.
      Hope this helps
