    Bhutan is a gorgeous place. The Himalayas are often associated with lofty heights covered deep in ice, but the Eastern Himalayas are often sub-alpine, and have everything from snow-capped mountains to lush forest valleys. It's a pretty difficult place to travel to for westerners, but it has gotten significantly easier and cheaper in the last couple of years. Sikkim and northern West Bengal is a great alternative too for similar scenery, but Bhutan hits the perfect spot. As an aside, Kolkata is my hometown, so I was awaiting this trip report and the next! I've only flown Druk Air, but I'm pleasantly surprised - will definitely give Bhutan Airlines a try next time. Suvarnabhumi is also a frequent hub for me - though I've grown a bit bored of its utilitarianism, even the Sat terminal doesn't shake things up enough.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Yeah Sikkim is actually on my list along with quite a few other far north destinations in India- but the fact that there’s just one or two hotels in each place I’d be interested in really does make for a challenging itinerary lol.

      @@tfft As you may know, Darjeeling (just south of Sikkim) has a rich tradition of heritage hotels & resorts, originating from the Victorian era when it was the chosen getaway for the British (Calcutta was their capital for Asian colonies). I'm sure they'll make for interesting videos! The most important thing in the Eastern Himalayas area is to hire a car & driver familiar with the mountain roads.

    Just a word of advice for Bhutan. I'm Sri Lankan and have travelled there. For tourists entering Bhutan, you have to pay a USD$100 fee PER day. They refer to this as the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). This fee goes toward infrastructure, airports, tourism related expenses etc. On top of this fee, you will also have to hire a tour guide unless you are on an all inclusive type of tour package. The SDF has to be paid fully in advance during the visa application process. If you plan to stay in Bhutan for 2 days, then they will charge you $200, 5 days will be $500 etc. The SDF fee does not include anything to you, the tourist. So on top of that fee you will have to budget for hotels, food, transport and a tour guide. The irony is that they want more tourists but this daily fee is what may put people off from travelling there. It used to be $200 a day, but was reduced.

    Next, Bhutan is the most environmentally conscious country in the world. The people are amazing, and the country itself is so nice and clean. They really worship environment and show how we can live fabulous with less.

    And geniune leather seats, most people don't realise they're sitting on PVC in other airlines.. There is a big difference in comfort. Again, predicting, because obviously I haven't seen it, why are Indian airport security so full of shit?

      The difference is he's not being sponsored by a country or airline, making his reviews more objective. Doesn't need to be fake positive because he's not getting a free ticket from the sponsor.
      We're getting these reviews whether or not you want to donate to his Patreon.

      One style (sponsored by hotels/airlines) is creating videos which are one long advertisement- sometimes disclosed and sometimes not, honesty questionable.
      The other style (mine) is a completely honest and independent video with an 8 second request that you support such (free and independent) videos.
      Given how many videos are full hidden sponsorships these days, it still surprises me how put off people are by a few seconds of self promoting a small business which produces content for people to watch for free 😂

      @@tfft as a New Yorker, you should be embarrassed calling your brief mention you have a patreon a “request” lol
