Analysis of themes is a core pillar of media literacy. Engaging with subtext both intended or perceived is useful for understanding why a piece of media resonates with an audience, or what lessons intended or other wise they might take away from it. This is a different skill that media reviews or criticism. It is completely valid as a form of expression.
