So, unfortunately, Sony has restrictions on mods that use external assets and scripting. But, don't let it get you down, we still have over 5,000 mods to choose from on Playstation. Some ps alternatives to these mods are: Simple Settlers - adds the variety of different settlers. Workshop Decoration Pack - gives a lot of pre-decorated shelves and tables, along with other goodies, but also has decorated vendor stalls. Makeshift Furniture Pack - very similar to the previous mod, but with a more scrappy vibe. QwaPa - a place anywhere mod. This mod basically gives you a "magic" place anywhere stick. Place the stick next to the object you wanna place anywhere and a pop up window opens asking if you want to attach the stick. It also comes with a "make static" tool for decorating with items you've found. Scrap That Settlement - a great scrapping mod. Not too powerful, not too weak. You can scrap most things, and you get resources for them (i.e. scrapping a leaf pile gets you fertilizer, and scrapping debris gets you concrete). There's also an add on for scrapping skeletons and even live things, so be careful you don't scrap Mama Murphy😂. USO - Unlocked Settlement Objects. Gives you a metric butt ton of items to build and decorate with. I personally don't recommend ocDecorator, unless you only have 1 or 2 settlement building mods. It is a very large mod, in the sense that it adds every junk item that you could pick up from the entire map. So, it will take away some items from other mods to make room, there's only so much room for things in the build menu, so when it gets overloaded, it will dump other items. If you get the QwaPa mod, that I mentioned earlier, it has the "make static" tool, so you drop the item, make it static, then place it in workshop mode. Although, if you've downloaded the mods from this list, you'll very rarely need it.
Playstation has a few mods that PC doesn't have. I used to have this gun noise mod that made guns sound violently realistic. Could never find an alternative on PC. I also miss that mod that turns a bar into the one with Cheers. It added rooms. The one on PC doesn't have the added rooms so the settlers just have to sleep on the floor.
One of my biggest gripes with fallout games is that houses always remain rundown. Its 200 years after the bombs. In established settlements, buildings would be repaired, painted, have at least rudimentary plumbing, etc. There wouldn't be trash or broken furniture on the floors, etc.
Right?! You can understand the single house in the middle of nowhere, with 1 or 2 people struggling being a big mess. But the settlements and places like diamond city where your basic needs are taken care of, you can take the time for basic hygiene and to sweep the mess you keep tripping over! :P
because everyone else is clearly incapable of even raking up leaves! they are all waiting for a big, strong hero to come along and do all the work for them!
Well the CPG massacre, constant raids from raiders, super mutants, and anyone else looking to take in the commonwealth kinda prevents building up to make things look nice. People are just trying to live day to day. if you go to diamond city and goodneighbor, you'll notice the streets are clean.
@@markdevlin150 disagree. Lore settlements like Diamond City in FO4, Megaton in FO3, don't suffer raids that damage the interior. No reason for people to be living in squalor with trash on their floors.
Another MUST HAVE mod for Settlements is, “Quieter Settlements”. It turns the ambient sound of generators and turrets down significantly. The stock game levels just gave me such a headache.
For me I think the most important Settlement mod is the Transfer Settlement. It allows save and restore settlement we have built. Once I built my perfect settlements, I don't want to rebuild every one again from scratch every time I restart a new game. This mod is a life saver.
I'm delighted you chose to mention Sim Settlements, I love that mod, I don't have time to build individual homes for my settlers so I just assign them to a housing plot, and they build their own homes, with their own decorations, beds, chairs, tables etc. Sim Settlements 2 is a much more complex mod that introduces everything through quests, but I just want all of the options right from the off, so Sim Settlements 1 is my go to mod for that.
I was told you can actually skip the quest stuff in Sim Settlements 2 with the holotape. So if you just want to get to building you can do that. But to be honest it only took me a little over an hour to do enough to get the basic residential, farming, and Industrial plot unlocked. In my video on SS2 I showed where you can grab the holotape in the window of Concord Hardware if you want to try it. You can't go wrong with either of the Sim Settlements mods though to be perfectly honest. Thanks for watching! :)
@@OrionDakotayou can choose to unlock everything in the mod menu (or I believe using the city planners holotype). So you don't HAVE to play the story. Though I'd recommend the story to anyone. As an aside. You can use the holotype to skip to a specific quest. I used this on my last play through to skip chapter 1 (so I had all plots). Because I'd played chapter one several times. Anyway. An excellent mod. I can't imagine playing without it.
Man, the level of professionalism you show in your comment section is impressive! I was just reading through some of the comments, and you responded to the rudest ones with the nicest tone ever! I subbed just for that, and it was a great video. I play on Playstation, so most of these mods I can't use, but I was checking out the video because I can typically find a Playstation alternative to a lot of mods.
I really am grateful for you and your support! Feel free to post PS alternatives because the help is really appreciated. My desire is to help as many people as possible get the most out of their games, but I am severely lacking in console experience. Happy to have you in my little community! :) If you want to contribute further feel free to join my "Mod Help" Discord. Even just popping in the comments like you did already helps a lot. TH-cam Studio is pretty bad about letting me know when comments are posted so I miss easy questions unless I regularly scroll through the entire comments section..
A note for anyone using the Better Settlers mod - never use it with any mod that adds children to your settlements, it WILL crash your game because it equips them with adult clothing! It's ok with settlements that start with children like Ten Pines. Thanks for this rundown of useful mods.
Sim Settlements 2 is the Minuteman storyline we SHOULD have gotten from Bethesda. It's really THAT good. Or no, actually it's better than anything Bethesda has put out in the last five years, period. The voice acting, the story line, the gaming concepts, the integration into the original storyline, the extensive mods to the base mod... The list of positives just goes on and on. No mod has any business being THIS good. No, I am not affiliated with any of the modders; I am just an avid fan of their work. They even interact with their fanbase, listen to their concerns, and actually fix and improve upon it when given reasonable suggestions. The team around Kinggath is just damn bloody awesome.
Thank you for the honest feedback! I would love to try it out and show it off in one of my next videos. I am tossing it around whether I should feature it in a Settlement mods part 2 or I was planning on making a top 10/5 best quest mods. What do you think?
@@OrionDakota Oh yes, this mod needs to be at least mentioned in a part 2. Or in a quest mod video. In either case it fulfills BOTH topics very handsomely. From my perspective the story line that lasts at least four days (96 hours) of intense playing, even when skipping dialog because you already know it, is worth not only a mention but its own video. Yeah, ok, I am a bit biased because I am such a geek and fan of it. But it is so well written that you can even get all FOUR factions to work together against the one enemy. Sure, it is a bit strained but that's to be expected, right?
Yeah it seems like it might need its own video as a big quest line and I should try to keep it as brief as possible in a top 10 sort of video because already Sim settlements 1 took up a large portion of this video and I cut so much out already! Unfortunately I am running into some issues with my existing save because according to the mod author you really aren't supposed to install SS2 on a save that previously had SS1 so I need to finish redoing my mod list so I can start a new save. :/
I've been using scrap everything. Couldn't live without it. A nice side benefit is that as you scrap the junk in the settlement, your build allowance also frees up.
Have you had any issues related to it? In my opinion it's more related to how much you use Scrap Everything/Spring Cleaning. If you go "scrap happy" and scrap everything you can there can be issues. But in my opinion if you are a bit more sparing they both seem to be okay. Is that your experience as well? Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching! :)
@@OrionDakota You definately want to be careful with scrapping. If you are not careful you can indeed scrap something important like a road while you are removing scrap. The trick is to quicksave every few minutes. I have had no problems resulting from scrapping 'too much' stuff.
The problem with scrap everything is that breaks precombines and that could tank performance, and even lead to crashes. I'd never recommend it to new players. Fallout 4 is a powder keg with a nitroglycerine jar on top of it.
@@KaijuAKD yup, that performance drop is no joke either. Currently running scrap everything with build budget remover, while I can build the settlement of my dreams, the drop in framerates everytime I visit said settlement(s) it gets real bad. Even settler mechanics are slow to unresponsive at times.
If only I could EVER remember the hotkey without having to refer to the Readme or Nexus page!! It has too many functions to list but I do regret not showing that page in the video. I added the manual moving as a revision before posting because I realized I talked about "things not quite snapping together" but never actually mentioned it was a part of the mod! :/ That whole section of the video was a mess tbh. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! It seems almost unanimous that SS2 is the better mod. I wanted to keep each mod simple so less conflicted with each other but from all the good feedback I most certainly will be switching over and featuring it in another video. :)
@@JeremyRichard82 Yeah it seems like quite a fun bit of content but I am not sure why they didn't just make a quest mod. Seems like the Settlement portion was fine as it's own thing, then there's all the quest stuff. I had to actually look up how to start because I tried to build in a settlement after installing and realized I have to jump through a lot of hoops! :P I sort of wish they just did a few updates on SS1 but tbh it's pretty good how they left it so I can't complain too much!
You can actually disable the quest progression stuff in the settings I believe. But the quest is so fun, I don't really care. My rig is hearty enough that I can just plonk a city planners desk down and get a city plan going for all of them. My only nitpick is I wish I had a better idea of where I could make custom builds without accidentally building where a future wall will be.
May I suggest, "Get Out Of My Face" for Part 2? Which allows for moving those pesky NPCs when you're trying to climb stairs and they're blocking the way, or trying to access that computer terminal but they just won't move, etc.
Unless something has changed over the years since I last played it was strongly recommended against using Spring Cleaning because it could cause CTD issues the longer you used it. Scrapping stuff without care may cause the game to crash upon approaching areas like Sanctuary due to the game trying to load objects that no longer existed due to scrapping them. Something to do with how Bethesda handled combining meshes together in Fallout 4.
So I know what you are referring to, its an issue with separating meshes that were combined during development for performance. They are called "pre-combined meshes" and for any scrap mod to work it has to separate them. It is a cumulative thing that as far as I can tell was more well noted with Scrap Everything as a large FPS drop when entering cells where large amounts of pre-combined meshes were modified. I cant attest to whether the engine was updated in a way to better handle it with the many performance tweaks released before Bethesda abandoned the game. All I can attest to is 100's of hours of regular usage with multiple saved games and no serious issues. I didnt go around scrapping literally everything in settlements but I particularly wanted interior buildings to be somewhat cleaned as if someone is calling it "home." Its a safe bet to use it sparingly or if leaves and junk all over doesnt bother you then absolutely just avoid it. All of the mods shown have been present on my Fallout 4 install for nearly 8 years and I know I thoroughly weighed Spring Cleaning vs. Scrap Everything and made my decision based on what I found knowing full well there can be complications down the line. Perhaps I will make a video detailing "do's" and "dont's" for modding going into more detail about which are safe to use, which are not, and which are in between. I HAVE used a save editor in Skyrim to fix mod issues but have yet to have the need to with FO4. Thanks for bringing it up! I mentioned Scrap Everything as an alternative in order to remind people that there are multiple mods doing the same thing and its always a good idea to do your research and double check that: 1. Its worth the risk for what you get out of a mod, and 2. That there isnt a different/newer or better mod that does the same thing. That being said, I should have made that more clear but didnt really think of it at the time. To be perfectly honest there were a TON of really good mods I wanted to show off but dont even exist in Nexus Mods anymore. "Dont Call Me Settler" was a great one that gave every settler a unique name but had so many instances of "save breaking bugs" that it was removed. I have had it installed since the beginning and have had no issues. Each persons mileage may vary. Thanks for watching and I really appreciate your feedback for me, and everyone else who stumbles across this video!
@@OrionDakota sure, no problem. As I said it's been years since I've played, so things definitely change over time. I've been looking into playing again and checking out mods I might want to use. Never touched Sim Settllements but seen there was a sequel to it, however the additional story stuff seems far beyond what the original was made to do.
Yeah I mean I'll look into it to see if it's any good, but I kinda like the original, less complicated settlement mod. There is definitely a lot of new stuff out there I haven't messed with yet because I'm already pretty much at my plugin limit. :P
@@SamusKnight2K Sim Settlements 2 is WONDERFUL! There is a City Planner Desk, you assign a Mayor and the entire settlement will auto-build, auto-upgrade, ... Then they added Chapter 2 and 3 which expands the story and ties directly into the main story, you get to go to WAR, and you know that never changes, with the Gunners. Have Factions ACTUALLY work together, like a Knight of the Round Table kinda thing. Other places that are NOT settlement will also start to spring to life, like Concord... The story line, acting, added game mechanics,... are all top notch.
Nice selection of mods that I will certain give a try. I love the idea of being able to scrap the trash and debris that is found with in the settlements. Ok, some of these places have been abandoned and need settlers to come back to but then, some currently have people living in and you wonder if they even know what a broom does? The current settlers could take even just a fraction of time from gardening to sweep the trash away, that has been accumulating under the beds for the last 200+ years.
Right?! Or that pile of junk you have almost tripped on in the hallway 100 times getting to your gross blood stained sheetless mattress..."What am I, a maid?! I'm not moving that pile of ceiling tiles!"
I'm always tempted using mods that let you place workshop anywhere. Why not build on the other side of that bridge... scrap those junk one step from your settlement, etc. They work perfectly, but makes game easier since way more material... but no need for glitch resource duplication you can immersably scrap the wasteland. The phrase "anything not nailed down" gets a new meaning:)
The scrap everything mod i love, but sometimes you can scrap final layers, leaving you with an untextured white glitched hole. Any scrap mod you use save often.
Do the Scrap Everything/Spring Cleaning mods include the annoying dead ghoul bodies that litter some settlements that vanilla doesn’t allow deletion of? I’ve played FO4 for years on PS4 using “Scrap that Settlement”. I just bought FO4 for PC and definitely want something similar. I’m really excited about not being limited to PlayStation’s mod restriction BS. I just need to figure out how to install them.
@@mef9327 Yes I believe you can, as well as the skeletons you find laying around occasionally. Sorry you had to deal with the Playstation stuff. Sounds like you can't get almost all of the mods, much less even than xbox. I'd suggest Mod Organizer to get started. It's the easiest one once you get used to it. Vortex is a little more ui and pretty but I like having almost everything on one screen. I made a tutorial for MO here: th-cam.com/video/p6RJkMzEytk/w-d-xo.html If you don't intend to use Bodyslide, you can skip that chapter and save 10 minutes. Thanks for watching! :)
I know there is a different mod if you want the actual pre-war versions but mine are a combination of: Patch Job: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1934 Paint That House: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6176 and Repaired Sanctuary Roofs: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6825 Patch Job and Paint That House conflict on a couple textures so I put Paint That House later in the load order so I had the cleaner walls. Thank you for watching, I am really glad you enjoyed it! :)
There's a great one called "do your dammed job codsworth". You don't get pre war houses. You get sanctuary but that's been maintained.... By codsworth... For 200 years. I use it every play through
So far, my Sim Settlements (1) has been working ok, so there's that info. I tried using place anywhere, but had pathing issues with the settler - so for me, it wasn't really worth it. I do use Scrap Everything, and I've never had any problems with a CTD - but I have had problems with deleting too much (usually it's just annoying, unless you get the blinding white wall of death). I think it may affect your ability to use the most popular glitches though (rug and pillar glitch). You should have mentioned KevBal's Better homes and gardens add-on to Sim Settlements, as well as some of the other ones you are using. Some you didn't mention: Do Your Damn Job Codsworth -- in you video you pointed out that Codsworth should have kept the house clean - in this mod he kept the whole neighborhood clean. Sure, the houses are kind of rusty, but they are mostly intact, and clean. and most important, you should reeeeeaaally try Settlement Objects extended, Northwest Diggers, and (maybe) Thematic and Practical.
You're most welcome. I watch a lot of these "Mod Roundups" (to use Oxhorn's term for it) and a lot of time it's a waste of time, but you had at least 3 mods I'm going to look into, so thanks
@@littlewillie65 Well to be honest if you found a couple good ones you might not accidentally find browsing, and I entertained you for a couple minutes, then it was 100% worth it and I'm happy to make another. I'd hope you would find that one just as useful if you end up watching it. ;)
@@OrionDakota I get a lot of ideas for new mods from videos like this (see previous reference to Oxhorn). But sometimes I find mods looking for things on the Nexus. For instance, new settlements - I've added Fiddlers Green, Roadside Pines, Prospect Hill park, Fairline Hill estates, the Hubologist's Camp, and "the Isle of Refreshment". Or new settlers - I have Charlie and Clinton, Jenny, an un-bugged Trader Rylee, Shelly Tiller and Private Hart. Oh yeah - since I couldn't get the game to cough up the Resettle Refugees quest, I used a mod to get the survivors from the institute. And don't forget the orphans - I probably have over a dozen kids scattered around my settlements. Still haven't found a mod that let's you place one of those churches you see al over the place in your settlements...
@@littlewillie65 Since you sound like an experienced modder I have an idea, if it doesn't already exist. Can we have a placeable mat or something that marks a spot for a settler to be assigned to stand guard? Like a guard post but without a structure so you can assign them to towers you make yourself or hallways or whatever and they will stand there and act as if it's a guard post?
Thanks to @PetyrC90 for bringing it to my attention that there might be issues with Sim Settlements and the Next-Gen update. Please comment below or reply here if you tried to install it and let us know what issues you are having. Make sure not to save over any of your games until you have thoroughly tested your mods! There is a newer slightly more complicated version of the mod called Sim Settlements 2 you can get here: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/47976 The primary difference between Sim Settlements 1 and 2, other than being updated more recently, is integration of a quest story line. I wanted the simple workshop/settlement mod so I stuck with Sim Settlements 1. Let us know in the comments what you think about it and if you had any trouble getting either installed. Thanks again for watching!
Sim settlements 2 is regularly maintained and the developer @kinggath plays it and tests it on xbox regularly as well. Most all issues with SS2 is always due to Bethesda mucking up the game!
@@jbarker2160 Are you on Steam for PC? Sounds like its hit or miss with console versions. I didnt have too much trouble getting it to work with a new save, however many of the interactions are quite slow. After placing a plot I had to wait sometimes a full minute for it to update and move to the next part of the quest. I would just be standing awkwardly waiting for the Stranger to talk. Im not sure if SS2 is entirely to blame for that one though, I have a pretty plump mod list... What issues were you having?
I used True Grass: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23469 and Trees Have Colorful Leaves: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/426 THCL adds leaves to a tree that is fallen down just past the bridge outside Sanctuary. If it bothers you then you might have to find another or I noticed the mod "Do Your Damn Job Codsworth" changes the cell and removes that tree (as well as many in the direct vicinity of Sanctuary. But its a pretty big Sanctuary overhaul so I would test it out thoroughly to make sure you are happy with the changes before overwriting any saves. True Grass and THCL should be extremely safe to add or remove. Thanks for watching! :)
Edit: Just realised you were talking Sim Settlements 1, didn't think anybody still used that after the release of Sim Settlements 2... Good collection of mods. Lost way to many playthroughs over the years to scrap mods, so I'll stay away from them. Been using the Rebuild series for a while to fix the settlements and the author redo the precombines after the fixing, no lost performance in big settlements. SS hasn't been supported for a long time, move on to SS2. :D SS2 is a stable in my load order. Salvage Beacons is already a part of SS2, you will get it later in the quest line.
Highly recommend you DO NOT use mods that disable using precombines, or let you as the player scrap or clean up individual objects that were once part of the precombined cell data. This destroys cell optimization and breaks culling. Instead, use mods that clean up the settlement area AND regenerate precombined meshes and culling/occlusion data for the edited cells. This is a much better way to do it. If you disregard this advice, you may wonder why performance sucks in the affected areas, and why you have strange disappearing objects with other visual glitches.
I appreciate your feedback and agree to an extent, I just don't know that everyone can find the right mod that does that to a level they are happy with. I tried a Sanctuary Overhaul mod I might feature but the results are far from perfect and while I love some aspects, I also don't like others. It's a trade off. That being said, I absolutely agree that if you insist on using mods like Spring Cleaning or Scrap Everything, you should use them sparingly. You should be aware that you are damaging some level of optimization in am already poorly optimized game. I really wish youtube let me upload revised versions of videos but my only option to add info on Spring Cleaning or Sim Settlements is in the comments here or to delete, edit, and re-upload the video. :/ I'll probably make another video and put a little card at the top when I mention it but nobody clicks on those. If someone made a mod that could scan and optimize edited cells (call it a Spring Cleaning Optimizer or Spring Cleaned) that you could run once you have the results you want, I think it would be huge! Seems the only alternative is a blanket mod removing debris across every settlement, or a mod for every individual settlement making it look clean and nice even when abandoned and first found.
@@thomgri Now now, let's all just get along! You both can make an effort to be kind to each other. Yes, Halo came in a bit hot but no sense in escalating things. :)
If anyone is on Series X and getting the Sim settlements 2 mod and chapters, it works great with the BASE lvl 1 settlement plans that come with Sim Settlements 2. I tried Rise of the Commonwealth addon pack for multi-level city plans, and as soon as I expanded my building limit to allow the city plans to grow, my Series X kept lagging and crashing constantly even loading a previous save didn't fix it. Now, that was before Bethesda updated the next-gen update, and I haven't wanted to test RotC since then to see if it was just issues with the Next Gen Update. Also, from what I've read mods like Place Anywhere will cause problems with SS2. Definitely read the extensive wiki on SS2 to find out what works and doesn't.
I've got the same system and have installed SS2 and all 3 chapters. I haven't added the addon pack though. I can tell you that playing the game from the disk stopped the lag and freezing issues I was having when playing it from Gamepass. I really want to try some addons as well but I'm nervous it will not be able to handle it.
Note the last mod has limited effect because if you fast travel to an attacked settlement the game simulates the travel time by teleporting enemies in, ignoring walls, regardless of spawn points outside. There are few settlements in vanilla game with spawn point inside. Sanctuary has none....
It seems if you want the most effectiveness you should get "Edmonds Settlement Attacks Outside the Settlement" which changes more spawn markers. Use that in conjuction with a mod that let's you move the fast travel point such as fast travel mats. Make sure you place the fast travel mat outside your settlement walls. And finally, yes the engine is written a bit poorly so you should really not fast travel directly to the Settlement and instead to the nearest location and run to the settlement. Incredible the amount of work we have to do because Bethesda loves to release entirely unfinished games! ;) Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting anything useful that I hadn't already tried or at least heard about, but oh, my god! Settlement Attacks Beyond, yes! I've been searching for something like that for ages! I'm sick of the Mechanist's robots turning up inside the buildings of settlements, they even get stuck in the bloody foundations so they can't even be shot!
Lol yep that's a classic Bethesda move right there! Happy to hear you found at least one good mod for suffering through my video. ;) Thanks for watching!
Wait wait wait. Bare with me as I’m new to this game and the settlement building business. (I’ve only discovered Sanctuary Hills and helped the guys in town so far) Whats all this about raiders spawning INSIDE your settlement and houses? I’ve started surrounding my settlement with walls and fences hoping to keep the buggers out. Will that not work?🤷🏼♂️ (I’m on a PS4 pro console so mods are limited too. I only have a couple of DLC’s loaded at the moment.)
Yeah there is an annoying bug in the game causing the spawn point for attacks to be inside the Settlement borders. It's relatively harmless unless you have a mod to make your settlers killable but it's quite annoying having to repair stuff that should have been secure inside your walls. In addition to the one I mentioned, someone else mentioned "Edmonds Settlement Attack Spawns Outside the Settlement" which I haven't tried but might be more recently updated. I'd suggest you look into either one if this bug bothers you. Thanks for watching and have fun!
@@niwty Taffington Boathouse I think is one of the worst, I scrapped the old house and built fresh pretty much right on top the old house and one playthrough I kept getting ghouls spawning inside of it. Abernathy Farm has a lot of open ground so I built a large fortified stone building further down the slope and would often get robots from the Automatron DLC spawning *inside* the foundations where I couldn't shoot them!
I could be wrong. But I think it only works if you are in the cell then settlement is part of when the attack starts? Or something like that. So walls still don't keep the baddies out. Which is annoying
Great video! Can you list the QoL mods that we see in the video? Working on my first playthrough of the game mod-free but when I see videos like this, it makes it harder to stay mod-free 🙂

@@OrionDakota I was curious about the status bars on the left side of the screen and the icons for the different inventory categories when you go into your Pipboy

Raze my settlement and clean my settlement will do everything spring cleaning does but better and both mods will work off 1 holotape since same dude made both. Plus no broken precombines and allows you to clear trash and rubble plants and stuff.
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to check them out. I did feature a really good alternative to Spring Cleaning called "This is Trash" in my next video. Thanks for watching! :)
Scrap Everything really gives you a clean settlement, but there are a couple drawbacks. 1) You can easily open a hole in reality that no one, including you, will want to fall into, lest they be gone forever, do a portal fall continously, or you need to reload. 2) Scrapping the "debris" & "general clutter" and few others can sometimes leave you with no "solid" surface to build on, since you just scrapped the texture with solidity on it. (Thanks Bethesda). Place Everywhere mitigates this. You can also find a nearby "solid" spot and build outward with snapping, but a lot of the time, it will look strange. If had to do it over, I would use Spring Cleaning instead.
Thank you for your feedback! Have you tried Scrap (Not Quite) Everything? I just skimmed it but seems like it might protect some of those from accidental deletion. I believe it is an add on mod for Scrap Everything, not a standalone. Spring Cleaning still seemed like the safer bet but to some people seemed to get the blame for performance issues relating to separating precombined meshes, even though they both have to do so in order to work.
Scrap Everything should be avoided at all costs. It will eventually destroy your save. Are you also recommending AWKCR? (In case you were wondering, AWKCR - Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource - is buggy and abandoned. Do not install this mod.
@@KuriusOranj Thanks for the heads up. I do have AWKCR because some mods I have required it and I'm sort of stuck with it at least for my existing save. I have not recommended it yet and will be sure to not recommend it in the future! Have you had issues with it?
The example video you use in OCD decorator as the "old way" of doing things is misleading. It's relatively simple to rotate and place objects on tables and shelves where you want them. As well while in build mode selecting an object sets it upright, allowing one to exit build mode, grab the object and place it. Still, as you said, settlers have the insanely annoying habit of knocking those objects back down to the floor.
That and I failed to mention the more items present in a location the more likely they are to "explode" and randomly fly around. The Havok engine is very buggy and the more items in an area interacting with it the more likely it is to do something really weird. OCDecorator makes completely static versions which not only should be much more performance friendly but also PREDICTABLE! :P
Not just settlers. When a settlement cell is being loaded, there is no order of what's loaded first. If the cup is loaded before the table it will start falling. That's also why sometimes you can't find settlers. They get loaded before floors and foundations. OCDecorator anchors the item
Some of them might be, they are certainly worth a search. Check out the pinned comment for a bunch of PS alternatives to these mods as well! Thanks for watching!
I double checked and the only one listed for PS is OCDecorator. The rest you will have to try the alternatives in that pinned comment. Sorry Sony is so restrictive... The 31k mods on Bethesda and about 5k are available for PS.
IDK, the Wooden Prefab mod seems to have nothing but complaints to it. Seems like its not the best thing to use. Did you do a full testing with it to see if settlers accually used them? The majority of the complaints was they wouldnt. Second highest complaint was CTD. I noticed in your video there wasnt a single settler inside any you used from it.
Broken navmeshes? I'll check and get back to you. No npcs went in them during my recording because I didn't place anything inside them and settler sandboxing is pretty rudimentary. I'll place some guard mats and see if they go in each building. I certainly haven't experienced any ctd but then again I don't use any mods to increase settlement size/budget and I could see how maybe some of the prefabs can use more resources.
Yes, you are correct. The navmeshes are broken/nonexistent for the new prefab structures. The small shack with supports and large shack with supports work fine because they reuse the navmeshes from the vanilla small and large shacks. Looks like I might have to fix them and release a patch if someone hasn't already. Thanks for pointing that out! I never noticed because after a certain timeout npcs will teleport to their destination so all my guard posts were always staffed. One advantage is the guards placed inside these structures will never leave their posts so they don't wander around to another post every minute.
@@DjOdyssey1971 You are 100 percent fine. I appreciate the feedback as I'm sure everyone who watched the vid does as well. That's why I wanted to confirm and add my 2 cents, so they can make an informed decision if it's for them or not. There is another mod called "NavMeshFixer" that was removed from Nexus for some reason that let's you place invisible nav meshes "floors" to fix any number of bugged vanilla and modded locations. I tried it out last night and it works pretty good, but having a version of the mod with a fixed navmesh is obviously ideal. I might play around with it in the CK when I get a chance cause I do like the buildings.
There is one mod mentioned here that I *really* want to try on xbox...Spring Cleaning. I've searched and searched and can't find it. Anyone know if it's available for xbox, and have a search string or link?
Did you know they added a function to turn objects on the XY,and Z axis so we could place the items better, not saying OCDecorator doesn't still save you loads of time but it unfair to compare it to the garbage placing in skyrim since there is no axis control in skryim.
I can't link it as my post will then be deleted. But you might want to think about "Edmond's Settlement Attack Spawns Outside the Settlement -" that seems to be more suited to moving ALL settlement spawn points that the one you have linked. It also includes Sanctuary, the other one doesn't.
Note 99 percent the problem isn't the spawn points, the game will teleport the attackers inside if you aren't already there to emulate the time passed until you arrived with this teleportation.
@@MolnarG007 ah, did not know that. Not having played much with settlements before. Interesting point, need to make sure certain sections of a settlement have their own internal defences then. Thanks
@@Vimes. Of course it's good to have spawn points outside everywhere, in case you are there when it is attacked, but only few cases it isn't. So turret towers everywhere, and armed settlers it is. :)
@@MolnarG007 Yup, just found a mod over at Nexus that includes turret towers .. JJB_TURRET_STANDS JJB-POWER-TOWERS settlers with guns.....what a combination, lol.
I had place anywhere (console). The first update removed that mod and it's no longer available for download. It was a great quality of life mod. Wish someone would port it back to console.
@@tonylloy327 thanks for the info. I never got fo4 to run after the graphics update or upgrade. Just a series of crashes and lost game progress. I did all the usual. Uninstall reinstall. Ran it on 2 different Xbox one X and one series X. I have 4 different discs. Last time I tried to run it the option to add mods was removed from the start menu so I'm playing other games at this point. Bethesda used to be my go to for games. Now, not so much. At least they didn't blow up Skyrim. Not yet at least.
Try Castle Walls Restored: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24703 I had a different one at some point but the author never finished it and the nav meshes were all jacked up. If there are places the settlers don't go in Castle Walls Restored then it's not glaringly obvious.
@@OrionDakota this is the one that broke. Used to be my go to. Anytime I try and get it to work since about November I just get exclamation marks now. I hope someone takes it over and fixes it.
@@albundy7459 What mod manager are you using? I havent had any issues with it except having to change the load order because another mod I installed more recently reverted the changes.
@@OrionDakota mo2. You can go through recent comments and see people are having a similar problem from the last few months. I’m assuming it’s a conflict with something, but no one has figured out the conflict. It used to work flawless as long as it was last in load order. Not so much anymore.
@@albundy7459 Thats very interesting because nothing happened in November. The game hasnt had an update since 2016 so nothing should have changed. I wish I could duplicate the issue so that I could figure out why but it worked fine in Nexus Mod Manager and it works perfect in MO2. I have disabled all updates so its literally impossible for something to change there. You didnt install a new mod at that time that might be responsible? I just dont comprehend how a mod can stop working when none of the game files have changed. Especially a mod that has no scripting. I can understand Bethesdas buggy system wont run scripts when it feels like it but for texture and mesh files there should be nothing to prevent them from working other than installing another mod/ high res dlc, etc. Mine is 44 out of 287 in load order so not even close to the bottom. Though it is priority 38 in plugins just under Spring Cleaning Compatibility Patch. "IT JUST WORKS" -Todd Howard :P
It works just fine for me in pre and next gen versions. It does have to disassemble the pre combined meshes in order to work. While this isn't immediately damaging it does cumulatively effect performance. If you want to avoid this and opt for a simpler "clean settlement" there is a mod I featured in my second video called "This is Trash - A Scrapping Alternative." In this mod you don't have to manually scrap things like you do with Spring Cleaning. Check it out here: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42552 You can see it towards the end of my video if you want: th-cam.com/video/ycMvm2YfuGs/w-d-xo.html
So I am using a modified curvy preset ported from my Skyrim game. For whatever reason the curvy preset in CBBE for fo4 is much less curvy than the one in Skyrim so I copied it over after making a few tweaks. If you like I can upload it to Nexus when I get a chance and link it for you. Or if you jump in my discord I might be able to upload it a little sooner when I get back to my computer. Thanks for watching! :)
Alongside Scrap everything, I use a mod called "This is Trash" which basically scraps most of the BS you would need to do manually with another scraping mod. You should check it out.
I will most certainly check it out, thanks for the recommendation! Many people have complained about Spring Cleaning or Scrap Everything so I'm sure they would be happy to see an alternative. Thanks for watching!
I’m one of the people new to the game since the release of the show, and knew NOTHING about, or even why you should, shut off updates. So, here I am, excited about keeping my game up to date, to find out it breaks stuff. Save-wise it’s too late for me before I found out weeks later. I don’t blame Bethesda, it’s not their fault. They have a responsibility to the game, not the mods. But I sure wish someone would hurry up and fix Place Anywhere.
Shoot, I'm sorry to hear that! You can actually backport your game manually or with a mod if you so choose. www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81630 I also know they finished patching F4SE so Place Everywhere should work, though I've heard it still doesn't. Is it now a mismatch between the new F4SE and Place Everywhere? I made a video on disabling updates, I would recommend doing it so you don't get screwed on the next one. th-cam.com/video/fNWq9TA3Cyw/w-d-xo.html Timestamp at 3.58 is the most important one. And yes I don't blame Bethesda for the cash grab update. What I DO blame them for is not warning people with modded games in the patch notes. They knew damn well after 8 years a vast majority of the player base had modded their games and were going to get screwed by the update. I think they did it on purpose to try to push people away from 3rd party and towards their creation club crapola.
There are several ways to downgrade. Many modders moved on from FO4, and since the update broke a lot of stuff, not just mods, it's expected new update in the near future.
I installed Better Settlers and it kept crashing my Far Harbor play. Every time I would travel to Far Harbor, it would immediately crash after getting there. My game is updated and only have about 4 other mods. They all worked fine together until going to Far Harbor. I took Better Settlers out and I was able to play with no problems. Just wanted to warn anyone that may have problems and don't know what it is.
Very sorry to hear that! There were issues documented about audio bugs with Far Harbor but nothing with crashes. Unfortunately the FO4 engine is a little unpredictable and it doesn't take much to push it over the edge. Hope you didn't lose too much time troubleshooting that issue. Thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching! :)
@@OrionDakota thank you. I didn't have much trouble and I'm used to troubleshooting because I use mods in other games I play. I start with the 50/50 method and go from there. I hope it gets fixed soon because I enjoyed the mod.
@@OrionDakota The only thing I can think of is maybe I had it in the wrong order. I'm not too sure about that, but it usually adds everything in the order by itself. It changes once I add or take away a mod. I usually verify by reading if it needs to be in a particular order. It can also be that the mod needs updating.
@@chaddabob3958 That is odd, usually they update the website first. I can only presume at this point that a majority of their downloads are off Nexus Mods and that's why their website is secondary. :/
Just need to figure out how to install the next-gen updated mods so this all works together. I hope the F4SE is updated and those who want to use it can get those mods to work with the newest version. I am not one for backtracking to use the Downgrader mod I wold prefer to use the newest updated versions.
Best way to do it is just to get started! Make sure you test each mod you install one by one or at least in small batches before overwriting any of your saved games so if you have to remove one that is broken, you haven't ruined a save. Also I would highly recommend Mod Organizer 2 if you don't have it already. I have a tutorial if you need help getting it set up. Thanks for watching and have fun! :)
Figured I would update you if you were still needing help modding with next gen. I made a video start to finish with a fresh install of Fallout 4 next gen. Hopefully you already got it figured out but if not you can take a look at the tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/p6RJkMzEytk/w-d-xo.html Also note that in my experience even before troubleshooting and rearranging load orders about 98% of my existing 270+ modlist worked without issue on next gen now that F4SE is updated. Good luck!
It could be because of an incompatibility between the next gen update, Place Everywhere, or perhaps F4SE. Sorry to hear that, it's probably one of the most useful settlement building mods as vanilla snapping can be extremely frustrating. Hopefully it gets added back soon!
@@OrionDakota yeah I used to use it all the time but now without it, it feels weird to try and build a settlement where you have a build limit and have to use the rug glitch for everything, hopefully the guy who made the mod puts it back on Xbox too, thanks for the video
The script extender is not built in. I am not sure if you can install it on consoles unfortunately but I'd suggest you do your own research. I don't have a console to test it on or I would check for you.

I have no real way of checking as I am on PC but from what I understand the script extender (F4SE) is not available on console and so you would not be able to use Place Everywhere. That being said I would double check for yourself if that is still the case.
@@dominicoloughlin7755 It should come up if you search either Nexusmods or Bethesda websites. @@retroboomer3197 I mean I've been modding looooong before there was a mod manager built in. I personally wouldn't trust it but that is your call. I have a very easy to follow (if not a bit boring) tutorial on installing and setting up Mod Organizer 2. The primary reason I like it is there are no permanent changes to your Fallout folder. Just launch from Steam and every Mod you enabled is disabled, launch from MO2 and you have everything there. Worth a shot if you have an hour to spare. I'd say i use half these, but half these are not on console. The biggest mod i'm looking for is a water tile or pond that you can build and put a water purifier in it.
Sorry to hear that! Some of the most useful mods aren't on console it seems. Especially anything that requires the script extender. I feel like I still have settlements with the water pump because the purifier can't pull water from the ground... Thanks for watching!
@@OrionDakota ya the biggest settlement hitch on mods is always water building😆. Thanks to conquest mod though you can build anywhere. You just can't build water that can have purifiers in it.
You are so very welcome! Thank you for watching. I am actually editing a part 2 at this very moment. Should have it done tonight or tomorrow so keep an eye out for that! :)
See a comment I pinned for known PS4 alternatives to some of these mods that arent available. Some absolute LEGEND made a reply with a nice list and I made him post it separate so I could pin it just for people like you! I dont have a console so I have no way of knowing. I hope you find some good mods that work out for you! Thanks for watching. :)
I wish I could answer that question for you but I do not have a console to check. I can say that Better Settlers, Salvage Beacons, Provisioner Supply Containers, Place Everywhere, and OCDecorator have tags for Xbox One on their nexus pages. My understanding is that Sony is a bit more restrictive on what they allow though. :/
@@mmadd7 Sad, I was going to say use OCDispenser and not OCDecorator if you are worried about your build menu but seems like it might be pc and xbox only. If you make another post that isn't a reply I can pin it for you. Lots of people ask what works on PS and I have no clue. Thanks for the list of alternatives and thanks for watching! :)
I know some of them do, but I can't attest to which specific ones because I don't have a Playstation to test with. The one that I am almost certain won't work is Place Everywhere. As far as I know F4SE (Script extender) is not available for console versions and Place Everywhere requires it to work. If I am wrong please let me know! Otherwise have fun and thanks for watching! :)
They don't break the precombined meshes anywhere other than in settlement cells so I don't believe you should experience fps drop anywhere but entering a settlement cell. Closest one to downtown might be Hangmans Alley but it's surrounded by buildings so depending on how the engine works it might not render the settlement at all until you are near one of the entrances. Even at that, I don't think you notice much performance difference until you have scrapped a decent amount. But if the leaves and piles of crap don't bother you then absolutely I would just avoid the mod. Sort of a necessary evil for some of us. :P
The big thing is to not go crazy when scrapping. Leaf piles and the small debris stuff in the streets, should be fine, but scrapping big chunks of landscape or buildings, not ok.
I'm sure it is, but you will have issues with many mods. Grab FO4 on steam when it's on sale or go to G2a.com because many mods don't work on the cracked version and no mod author will help you. I get it, I used to get cracked games but FO4 is worth it grabbing a legit copy. That's my 2 cents. :) Head over to my tutorial if you want to get started. Should be first link in the description. Keep in mind F4SE probably won't work but it's worth a try, it only takes a bit of time to test out. Have fun!
What doesnt work about it? I blocked the update so I have no way of testing with it and I have to rely on what people say about it in posts. I dont see a lot of people saying its not working but then again more people are probably going for Sim Settlements 2. I prefer the less complicated version myself.
@OrionDakota i didn't test myself. But it is not supported and some people reported issues. Ss2 is working though. And was updated. So it is more reliable for next gen.
Workshop rearranged is by far the best building mod on console. Except for pay$tation. Soynes onerous restrictions on their consoles don't allow any mods that are actually good.
I'm sorry to hear that! I never used the in game modding because when I started modding it didn't exist! Might be a good reason to switch to an actual mod manager if you think some of these mods will make your life easier. I have full tutorial videos should you need assistance. Thanks for watching and good luck! :)
The original Sim Settlements mod is essentially abandoned by the creator, who has been focussed on Sim Settlements 2 for the past few years (it was released in October of 2020). I can understand recommending the original, as it is quite good, but the second is not only miles better, but also is redesigned from the ground up in order to optimize the stacks of scripts that need to run to keep everything going. The mod is another example of folks in the modding community doing things with the Creation engine that the designers had never even imagined.
I really appreciate your input! I have gotten overwhelmingly good feedback on SS2 and I am very interested in trying it out and featuring it in one of my next videos. Its amazing to me how far the modding community has gone, I remember back when every modder was eagerly awaiting release of the CK... Thanks for watching and thanks again for the feedback. If you think there are any other absolutely necessary mods for my next video, let me know!
Uh oh! If you are placing clutter objects then replacing them with OCDecorator might help because the placed objects don't have physics enabled. If it's just a bunch of settlement objects then you just might be out of luck! Either way the life of a wasteland hoarder is not an easy life... :'(
I have no clue why ppl refuse to downgrade instead waiting for all the f4se plugins to be updated. There is NO point to stay on new version, none at all, you can downgrade and "enjoy" the new quest and items and with more mods support. Staying on new update doesn' t give any advantages, is not like passing from oldrim to special/anniversary edition, from x86 to x64. Anyway first time Im trying SS2 and is good that certain places like concord are more lively.
I mean to be honest, much of the FO4 modding community has moved on to Starfield, or elsewhere entirely. 90% of my modlist is from 2016. People are expecting and pushing modders to come back after 8 years and fix mods that were perfectly working when they were released. It's not going to happen for most of the mods out there. I didn't even bother with the "new content" as some of it was already readily available in mods anyway. For example I already have the Enclave X02 Power Armor. I only installed next gen on my laptop to make a fresh install modding tutorial and after sorting out the mod list I just started playing on my desktop again. :P Thanks for watching!
@@OrionDakota Blegh Starfield.. I will never like that empty game with ugly npc and their scaring staring eyes. I probably will stay in fallout 4, skyrim and modding also cyberpunk. As for the CC content yes, is pathetically made, to short quests, is just items throwed in the game and thats it. Although the x-02 as look is much better than nexus one, I must admit were a huge disappointment when found there is no BOS paint. The other weapons didnt bothered to use them yet.
@@Fheara_Nyakki My brother really loved Starfield but he played it on a free 60 day game pass and isn't willing to actually buy it. :P I'll probably do what I did with 76 and wait several years for it to go for less than 20 bucks then give it a shot. 76 was actually a pretty decent game when I bought it even though it was hot garbage for years. Yeah I thought about doing a side by side comparison of the X-02's but never got around to it. Surprised to hear it's actually better I kinda just figured Bethesda ripped it from Nexus. :P The rest I figured was similar to what they added in Skyrim AE. 2 factions and like 45 minutes of questing content. Meh.
DO NOT use Sim Settlements, use Sim Settlements 2 with all 3 chapters that come with it. Sim Settlements was more of a test bed for Sim Settlements 2. Oh and you don't need Salvage Beacons with SS2 as it has the same feature inside it.
I am quite enjoying SS2 for the story but the scripting has quite a bit of lag so it's a tradeoff I think. Some people might want the simplicity of SS1 and I wouldn't blame them. I've also never had crashes with SS1 but found a way to make my game crash with 100% effectiveness with SS2. :P I think that's why Kinggath left SS1 up, because he knows they are different enough to justify leaving it as a whole different mod. I did make a video on SS2 a couple days ago to give people a little preview because it has enough to it to be its own video instead of a feature in another top 10. Thanks for watching! :)
Annoyingly I think that Settlement Attacks Beyond is somehow tanking the happiness of new settlements so that I lose them... Now, for the record, I have played over 1000 hours of Fallout 4 and never in all that time, EVER have I lost a settlement, I didn't even know such a thing was possible until very recently when it was mentioned in a different vid here on the youtubes So what happened? Sometime after I installed Settlement Attacks Beyond I took over Covenant (by killing everyone) I then flattened it, rebuilt it and needed to repopulate. I have a mod that gives me a cheat terminal which, among many, many other things, can spawn settlers. I used this to generate 3 settlers to grow food and run a shop. They had more than enough beds, more than adequate food, water and the defence was over 100. There was also 2 robots running supply lines from there to other settlements but I can't remember if they were based in Covenant or at the other settlement of the supply line I then left to do something else, only to shortly get a message saying the happiness was very low and I would lose the settlement. I returned, everything was still fine, nothing in red when I went into workshop mode and no comments from settlers saying "We need stuff!" I then lost the settlement and I couldn't get a mission from the settlers there to get it back. This was odd. Other settlements were fine, only Covenant was effected which I think is the only one I set up after installing this mod. I first wondered if it had something to do with it only being settlers spawned through the terminal. I have used it before, usually to add settlers to an existing settlement I think, I can't remember if I ever used them before to set one up. However.... I just started a fresh playthrough to try out some different mods. I helped Abernathy Farm and got it as a settlement. I flattened it and rebuilt it. I didn't need to repopulate. I built a robot workbench and ran a supply line from there to Sanctuary. Now, as I understand it, the happiness of a robot cannot change so the happiness of a settlement containing a robot cannot reach 100, nor can it reach 0 Anyway... I left Abernathy farm. Shortly after I get a message again saying the happiness was very low and I would lose the settlement. I returned, again, everything was still fine, nothing in red when I went into workshop mode and no comments from settlers saying "We need stuff!" I even built another robot reasoning that if the one on the supply line didn't count for some reason this one would. I then lost the settlement and I again couldn't get a mission from the settlers there to get it back. I have disabled this mod and since that added Tenpines Bluff and Oberland Station to my settlement network without issue. Perhaps this conflicting with something else? I have many mods adding things to settlements, too many to list easily, so I don't know...
Interesting issue. Are you next gen or not? I know vanilla Fallout has always had a settlement happiness bug but it gradually goes down until you visit again and doesn't really jump down or anything like that. Try Edmonds Settlement Attacks Ouside Settlement (or something like that). It was recommended to me as an alternative but I have not tested it. Apparently the one I use doesn't include Sanctuary but Edmonds one does. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
@@OrionDakota no, I made sure to block the auto-update so I could carry on using my mods, and also I knew that it would just f*** everything up because bethesda never seem to properly test anything before they release them. I've never had a problem like this before, after setting up Abernathy, I fast travelled to Greaygarden, ran to the water treatment, cleared the supermutants outside and by then the happiness dropped from 50 to 10 I went back and there was an arrow next to the happiness while I was there in build mode but as soon as I came out I was no longer allied with them! I'm hoping that preston will give me a mission for them at some point
@@robertcain7630 Wow yeah thats definitely a big change, way more than ive ever seen with the vanilla bug. Im not sure how modifying enemy spawn locations could do that but ive certainly seen more unusual stuff with Bethesdas buggy engine. Im going to guess it had to be a mod compatibility issue since nobody else seems to have anything like what you are experiencing. 1000 videos on FO4 mods and you felt the need to make another one. Just as everyone is trying to figure out which mods are now working with next gen. If you want to make something people want to see make a next gen mods video.
Fortunately for me I blocked updates so I don't have a way to test mods on Next Gen. I did address this in the first 30 seconds of the video that F4SE was a big issue with Next Gen and only 1 of the 10 mods featured required it but the other 9 should theoretically work. I would suggest going to the mod page and check out the posts section. You will either see a bunch of people complaining that it doesn't work or a bunch of people agreeing that it works fine with Next Gen. Hope this helps, have fun! :)
Apologies, I am not really sure what you are referring to but no I am not intentionally changing my voice for any reason. In fact I'm not that great of a speaker and have to retake almost every section of audio to get it right. I think it's getting better as I talk more though. Hope it was at least tolerable and that you could get some benefit out of the video!
Please elaborate if you don't mind. I don't see any reports of this at the Better Settlers nexus page and I haven't experienced anything like this myself. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching! :)
@OrionDakota it only occurs with NG games anything that edits NPC actors physical features (face, clothing, cbbe, high ploy) causes a hard coded bug In the engine. This bug causes stuttering and or lag when the character walks around. Bethesda knows about it and is working on a patch but it could be weeks.
Ahh okay, yeah I remember seeing the notes about that in LOOT. That's why I will probably never update my Fallout 4. We got literally nothing out of it other than issues. People have done a side by side comparison and seemingly next gen changed nothing at all and (my guess) simply broke everyone's third party mods in an attempt to get them to use Creation Club instead. Thanks for the update, I didn't have performance issues on my laptop but then again it was a pretty fresh save so I'm sure that's why.
Lol are you referring to the Wooden Prefab? Didnt occur to me until I was editing that it wasnt a vanilla structure. Its honestly been so long since I played vanilla FO4 I have trouble remembering what it was! :P
I have a question. Which Sim Settlements to download? The regular or the 3-in-1? I have no idea what Rise of the Commonwealth or Industrial Revolution are.
@@dannbrauckmann1545 Hey sorry for the late reply. So I actually had a pretty old version of Sim Settlements (2.1.2) and only Industrial Revolution. They are just add on packs that add extra plots and building types. If you are fresh installing I would just go for the 3 in 1 as it gives you the most out of it. I plan on updating to the latest version available and trying it out once im done playing around with Sim Settlements 2.
@@OrionDakota Crap, I went with Sim Settlements 1, and no add-ons. Can I just uninstall that mod and get Sim Settlements 2 and be okay? Or should I uninstall Sim Settlements basic version and replace it with the 3 in 1?
@dannbrauckmann1545 You should be perfectly safe installing the 2 add ons. Sim settlements 2 really works better with a clean save. Adding mods is always safer than removing them, so unless you are starting a new game don't remove SS1 and replace with the 3 in 1 or SS2.
@@OrionDakota So you're saying I shouldn't do either unless I want to start a new game? Or that I would be safe replacing the basic Sim Settlements with the 3-in-1 with my current save?
I'm on a PS4. How is the spring cleaning mod on there? Will it break anything? I'm a stickler about keeping a game as it was built by the devs, but I'm sick of bushes growing through my floors. This will be the only mod I plan on installing. Don't want to break the survival mode gameplay.
So unfortunately as far as being the only mod you intend to install, Spring Cleaning might be a bit problematic. I've had it installed for a long time without any real issues but you have to be careful not to be too scrap heavy or you can end up with performance issues. These might be more prevalent on the older hardware of the PS4. That being said I used it normally on a decade old pc without any notable issues so your mileage may vary. Best I could recommend is to make a good save point to fall back on, install Spring Cleaning, and scrap as much as you possibly imagine you would want to and leave the Settlement and come back a few times to see if you notice any stuttering or crashing. Once you feel confident that it works okay then reload your save and try to scrap sparingly. There might be a slightly "lighter" mod for removing foliage if that's all you are after. Mods like Spring Cleaning have to break apart precombined meshes to scrap individual components so can become more unstable the more you scrap. I hope this helps, if there is a forum for PS4 modding maybe check it out to see what the other console users experiences are. Thanks for watching! :)
@@mmadd7 I featured in part 2 a mod called "This is Trash - A Scrapping Alternative". Is "Scrap That Settlement" a similar mod that recombines the meshes? Or is it just another one where you pick and choose what to scrap manually?
@@OrionDakota you pick and choose, but it doesn't scrap roads or most buildings. There's even some debris piles, like the big ones at the Castle or Hangman's Alley.
@@mmadd7 Oh okay, you should check out "This is Trash" when you get a chance. Sounds like the one you have is just another alternate scrap mod which can have the same complications by breaking precombined meshes. This is Trash is a one time thing and removes pretty much all of that stuff. Check out my other video and click to that chapter if you want to see it for example on Sanctuary and the Castle. No clue if its available on PS but I know it is for xbox. Best thing is that mod replaces the combined meshes so it should be very performance friendly. I wish I found it before Spring Cleaning tbh. Not that ive personally had serious issues with SC but the time saved is big. That and load order issues and mod conflicts cause those scrap mods to suddenly reappear all the crap you cleared before. Someone else here highly recommended "Scrap Zapper 2" but I havent personally tried it out. Sounds like it also includes scrappable items like the tires, makeshift batteries, etc.
So, unfortunately, Sony has restrictions on mods that use external assets and scripting. But, don't let it get you down, we still have over 5,000 mods to choose from on Playstation. Some ps alternatives to these mods are:
Simple Settlers - adds the variety of different settlers.
Thank you very much for this. Our Playstation brothers salute you! ;)
I don't have any mods yet. I'm on PS4, and I hear that USO no longer works? Is that true?
And if Sanctuary wasnt occupied the settlers should clean up over time
Another MUST HAVE mod for Settlements is, “Quieter Settlements”. It turns the ambient sound of generators and turrets down significantly. The stock game levels just gave me such a headache.
YES! I was absolutely putting it in part 2. I have had it so long I sort of forgot how loud they are originally.
That's what the Bell is for???
Omg you just saved me so much time running around the settlement trying to find people. 😂🎉
even with the bell sometimes some people dgaf and don't show up
For me I think the most important Settlement mod is the Transfer Settlement.
That Minigun interior decoration session cracked me up. Perfect!
You are very welcome. :) Thank you for watching and thanks for the heads up!
Right? There's straight up lore friendly voice acting and I always think "Wow when did they do this?" but it's a mod.
@@OrionDakota a little tip for SS2: it's better to start/play it with a completely new game.
@@panpiperI think he was referring to the fact that it breaks precombines and can affect your games performance if you use it heavily.
Place everywhere also allows you to turn snap on and off, you can also turn surface placement on and off.
You did a fabulous job on this video. Very well explained, to the point, and demonstrated. And the mods, are excellent picks.
@@Kaltor_Gaming Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. :)
Definitely would recommend Sim Settler 2 over SS1.
Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! It seems almost unanimous that SS2 is the better mod. I wanted to keep each mod simple so less conflicted with each other but from all the good feedback I most certainly will be switching over and featuring it in another video. :)
It takes me a 70+ hours just to "get started" when doing a SS2 (Chapters 1-3) playthrough.
I sort of wish they just did a few updates on SS1 but tbh it's pretty good how they left it so I can't complain too much!
@@JeremyRichard82 Ya, I'm seeing now how long it is, and going at my own pace, I'm OK cool with it.
Absolutely, thanks for the suggestion! I will have to try it out. :)
@@OrionDakota It's customizable to increase or decrease it's effective range and voice, etc.
Have Factions ACTUALLY work together, like a Knight of the Round Table kinda thing. Other places that are NOT settlement will also start to spring to life, like Concord... The story line, acting, added game mechanics,... are all top notch.

Edit: accidently put this in reply but thanks for the like :D

Paint That House: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6176

There's a great one called "do your dammed job codsworth". You don't get pre war houses. You get sanctuary but that's been maintained.... By codsworth... For 200 years. I use it every play through
I am actually using that one right now, I didn't know it even existed when I made this video!
Thank you for the suggestions! There is so much interest in this video I will certainly be making a part 2. :)

There is a newer slightly more complicated version of the mod called Sim Settlements 2 you can get here: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/47976
The primary difference between Sim Settlements 1 and 2, other than being updated more recently, is integration of a quest story line.
"slightly more complicated". Where do I pin the award for understatement of the year?
I could never get SS2 to work. Maybe it was a conflict with another mod, but I couldn't complete the beginning quest.
@@jbarker2160 Are you on Steam for PC? Sounds like its hit or miss with console versions. I didnt have too much trouble getting it to work with a new save, however many of the interactions are quite slow. Im not sure if SS2 is entirely to blame for that one though, I have a pretty plump mod list... What issues were you having?
Thanks. What mod do you have on (or mods) that add the green grass and living trees?
I used True Grass: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23469
and Trees Have Colorful Leaves: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/426
THCL adds leaves to a tree that is fallen down just past the bridge outside Sanctuary.

SS2 is a stable in my load order.
Salvage Beacons is already a part of SS2, you will get it later in the quest line.
How do I find the scrap everything mod, because it's not popping up. I'm on Xbox
Scrap all the things is a perfect example of this issue, but for console its the only one i've found that has gotten everything that i want gone.
Cool, but you not providing any concrete mods is infuriating.

Incredible the amount of work we have to do because Bethesda loves to release entirely unfinished games! ;)
Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!
(I’ve only discovered Sanctuary Hills and helped the guys in town so far)
Whats all this about raiders spawning INSIDE your settlement and houses?

Raze my settlement and clean my settlement will do everything spring cleaning does but better and both mods will work off 1 holotape since same dude made both. Plus no broken precombines and allows you to clear trash and rubble plants and stuff.

@@OrionDakota No probs! all about hitting the right KW! good luck with the next ones
Are these mods located on Bethesda because nexus don’t work for ps5 or at least I don’t know how to get it over to my ps5
Which see through scope mod are you using? Tried one the other day and it wasn't working
The one I use is called See Through Scopes: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9476
OCDecorator, if for at least to keep the bollards at the drive-in in place…
@@OrionDakota I didnt want to call you out Just wanted o point out all the people complaining.
Thanks for the recommendation! I will have to check it out for sure. :)

The best castle rebuilt mod somehow broke a few months back. I haven’t found one that can come close to replacing it.
Try Castle Walls Restored: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24703
I had a different one at some point but the author never finished it and the nav meshes were all jacked up.
Spring Cleaning still work? Does it break pre-combines?
It works just fine for me in pre and next gen versions. It does have to disassemble the pre combined meshes in order to work. While this isn't immediately damaging it does cumulatively effect performance.
If you want to avoid this and opt for a simpler "clean settlement" there is a mod I featured in my second video called "This is Trash - A Scrapping Alternative." In this mod you don't have to manually scrap things like you do with Spring Cleaning.
Check it out here: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42552
You can see it towards the end of my video if you want: th-cam.com/video/ycMvm2YfuGs/w-d-xo.html
What's the bodyslide/preset you've got in the video
So I am using a modified curvy preset ported from my Skyrim game. For whatever reason the curvy preset in CBBE for fo4 is much less curvy than the one in Skyrim so I copied it over after making a few tweaks. If you like I can upload it to Nexus when I get a chance and link it for you. Or if you jump in my discord I might be able to upload it a little sooner when I get back to my computer.

OrionDakota sounds like the principle in Adam Sandlers They're All Gonna Laugh At You album.
I mean to be fair, they ARE all gonna laugh at you!
You can actually backport your game manually or with a mod if you so choose. www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81630
I also know they finished patching F4SE so Place Everywhere should work, though I've heard it still doesn't.
Awesome. Are you on next gen by chance or the previous version?
@@OrionDakota the next gen.
@@OrionDakota The only thing I can think of is maybe I had it in the wrong order. I'm not too sure about that, but it usually adds everything in the order by itself. It changes once I add or take away a mod. I usually verify by reading if it needs to be in a particular order. It can also be that the mod needs updating.
why is the newset version not available on their homepage yet? 🤔
Newest version of what?
Sorry, I meant f4se.
@@chaddabob3958 That is odd, usually they update the website first. I can only presume at this point that a majority of their downloads are off Nexus Mods and that's why their website is secondary. :/

Also note that in my experience even before troubleshooting and rearranging load orders about 98% of my existing 270+ modlist worked without issue on next gen now that F4SE is updated. Good luck!
great content, will definitely try some of those mods, keep it up
Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching! :)
Why is place everywhere not on Xbox anymore?
It could be because of an incompatibility between the next gen update, Place Everywhere, or perhaps F4SE. Sorry to hear that, it's probably one of the most useful settlement building mods as vanilla snapping can be extremely frustrating. Hopefully it gets added back soon!
@@OrionDakota yeah I used to use it all the time but now without it, it feels weird to try and build a settlement where you have a build limit and have to use the rug glitch for everything, hopefully the guy who made the mod puts it back on Xbox too, thanks for the video

Script Extenders are not allowed on consoles. It's Sony and Microsoft policies that hinder that.

I have no real way of checking as I am on PC but from what I understand the script extender (F4SE) is not available on console and so you would not be able to use Place Everywhere. That being said I would double check for yourself if that is still the case.
Neither is on PS5, SS2 works on Xbox. Place Everywhere requires F4SE which is PC only.

How many of these are ok for PS4
See a comment I pinned for known PS4 alternatives to some of these mods that arent available. Some absolute LEGEND made a reply with a nice list and I made him post it separate so I could pin it just for people like you! I dont have a console so I have no way of knowing.
I hope you find some good mods that work out for you! Thanks for watching. :)
Are all these mods available on ps5 and xbox1
I wish I could answer that question for you but I do not have a console to check. I can say that Better Settlers, Salvage Beacons, Provisioner Supply Containers, Place Everywhere, and OCDecorator have tags for Xbox One on their nexus pages. My understanding is that Sony is a bit more restrictive on what they allow though. :/
So, unfortunately, Sony has restrictions on mods that use external assets and scripting. But, don't let it get you down, we still have over 5,000 mods to choose from on Playstation. Some ps alternatives to these mods are:
Simple Settlers - adds the variety of different settlers.
Do any of these mods work on PlayStation?
I know some of them do, but I can't attest to which specific ones because I don't have a Playstation to test with. The one that I am almost certain won't work is Place Everywhere. As far as I know F4SE (Script extender) is not available for console versions and Place Everywhere requires it to work. If I am wrong please let me know!
Otherwise have fun and thanks for watching! :)
bro really funny good video haha
from what i understand mods like Spring Cleaning break precombines and can destroy performance, especially downtown
I downloaded from skidrow, is it possible to install mods?
I'm sure it is, but you will have issues with many mods. Grab FO4 on steam when it's on sale or go to G2a.com because many mods don't work on the cracked version and no mod author will help you. I get it, I used to get cracked games but FO4 is worth it grabbing a legit copy. That's my 2 cents. :)
Head over to my tutorial if you want to get started. Should be first link in the description. Keep in mind F4SE probably won't work but it's worth a try, it only takes a bit of time to test out. Have fun!
Not all these mods work with next gen update. Like sim settlement 1.
Just saying.
Good to know, thanks for the update! I had initially planned on installing next gen on my laptop for testing but didnt find the time.
Unfortunately, Place Everywhere mod is broken, which sucks!
You must be on Next Gen then? It works good on the last version.
Workshop rearranged is by far the best building mod on console. Except for pay$tation. Soynes onerous restrictions on their consoles don't allow any mods that are actually good.
I found none of these mods in the mod store in game.

Mods to stop my xbox from crashing due to the amount of decorations I have in my settlements? lmfao
Thanks for watching!
Meh.
Sim Settlements 2 is way better then the original
I think that's why Kinggath left SS1 up, because he knows they are different enough to justify leaving it as a whole different mod. I did make a video on SS2 a couple days ago to give people a little preview because it has enough to it to be its own video instead of a feature in another top 10.
Thanks for watching! :)
Too bad SS2 is too big for an XBOX to handle.
Annoyingly I think that Settlement Attacks Beyond is somehow tanking the happiness of new settlements so that I lose them...
Now, for the record, I have played over 1000 hours of Fallout 4 and never in all that time, EVER have I lost a settlement, I didn't even know such a thing was possible until very recently when it was mentioned in a different vid here on the youtubes
So what happened? Sometime after I installed Settlement Attacks Beyond I took over Covenant (by killing everyone) I then flattened it, rebuilt it and needed to repopulate. I have a mod that gives me a cheat terminal which, among many, many other things, can spawn settlers. I used this to generate 3 settlers to grow food and run a shop. They had more than enough beds, more than adequate food, water and the defence was over 100.
There was also 2 robots running supply lines from there to other settlements but I can't remember if they were based in Covenant or at the other settlement of the supply line
I then left to do something else, only to shortly get a message saying the happiness was very low and I would lose the settlement.
Now, as I understand it, the happiness of a robot cannot change so the happiness of a settlement containing a robot cannot reach 100, nor can it reach 0
Anyway...
I've never had a problem like this before, after setting up Abernathy, I fast travelled to Greaygarden, ran to the water treatment, cleared the supermutants outside and by then the happiness dropped from 50 to 10
I went back and there was an arrow next to the happiness while I was there in build mode but as soon as I came out I was no longer allied with them!
If you didnt do too much in your save I would replace Settlement Attacks Beyond with Edmonds and load a save prior to the installation to be safe. Then test it out under similar circumstances.
Let me know how it goes. If you want help/want to indulge my curiosity you can send me your modlist to my email or in my Discord.
#9 should have been something Bethesda put in game instead of using a mod for it, But we all know how they do things.😂😂
Cool thanks. But on Xbox atm
I believe several of them are available on Xbox. Thanks for watching! :)
minigun on the coffee cup! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Are you intentionally adding that croak to your voice? It seems like an affectation. It’s grating
"Better settlers" will cause the stutter engine bug.
Thanks for the update, I didn't have performance issues on my laptop but then again it was a pretty fresh save so I'm sure that's why.
very moist
Don't top play without
Ah diversity, an old wooden ship.
Lol are you referring to the Wooden Prefab? Didnt occur to me until I was editing that it wasnt a vanilla structure. Its honestly been so long since I played vanilla FO4 I have trouble remembering what it was! :P
@@OrionDakota Just an old Anchorman joke :D
Oh okay, I guess that whooshed right over my head.
OMG I didn't realize you could ROTATE the things you're building before placing them. What a dummy.
I dislike mods makes me feel dirty.😅
Mods ARE dirty. When I run LOOT it shows "dirty edits" everywhere!!
That's all great if you got a PC unless you got a PC you can't have those mods
Yeah unfortunately it sounds like Sony is pretty restrictive of what mods can be installed on their consoles. 😢
Try Scrap That Settlement
