Hey Cimo, thanks for profiling my deck!! Just saw this video and brought me back to high school and a rush of memories! The last extra deck card was Blood Mefist to help win in time, and weird situations/decks that played waboku and Troar.

  • @denfallas

That hieratic list is so weird, you either played a luster dragon #2 or a curse of dragon alongside the wattail, you never only played one normal monster.

During their "game 3", Cimooo keeps grabbing more Hieratics with the tributed ones' effects, but they're only able to summon "Normal" dragon monsters, aka Watt-tail dragon. This loop of tributing he was doing "Su tribute Su, tributed Su grabs Tefnuit" couldn't work since the Tefnuit would have to be a normal, so the Watttail in grave.

It introduced an interesting way to get these good (for their time) Xyz monsters on the field, and we can all agree that the fact that Hieratics received a Link monster for modern support means Konami acknowledged the lack of a modern power in the archetype.

I'm really interested to see how this series would consider the not too long ago week that pre-errata Makyura was legal at 3, resulting in complete madness, roller coaster prices, and overall.. an inconsistent unspectacular FTK in modern YGO.

The short time Makyura was legal without Errata showed that the card could have probably come back without an Errata what is crazy to think about because Makyura's effect of breaking a complete card type is broken as hell but FTKs with the card are too fragile and inconsistent especially the versions that played all these draw traps that do nothing if you don't have Makyura access.

Didn't run into them at tournaments very much. Very fun deck tho, wish it had released more towards the beginning of xyz era.
Fun fact: Hieratics were actually released about 22 days before the release of shock master (as a Shonen jump promo card no less), so the initial testing period when a lot of ppl we're trying the deck the meta was slightly different.

So I guess at the time people weren't running Heliopolis. Heliopolis was something I used a lot in my Dark World deck back then, but I guess people weren't comfortable running a couple of Blue-Eyes or something in Heiractics in order to make it.

Gemini imps was a fascinating card. It was sort of like the "droll phenomenon" but way b4 droll in the sense that ppl 'dicovered' a use for a card long thought to be useless. In addition to doing well vs dark worlds, dropping gimps vs a Wind-up hunter killed the hunter and stopped any chance of ur opp ripping cards from ur hand. Even tho the full hunter loop was gone, ripping a few cards from ur opps hand isn't exactly a bad choice turn 1 for the wind-up player.

If youre opponent has nothing on their board and you have 3 hieratics in your hand your board should be su, wattail/labradorite and a blue eyes. Then go rank 6 atum and summon galaxy eyes photon dragon with atum and overlay blue eyes and galaxy eyes into number 62, then overlay rank 7 Gaia over atum and go for game

  • @ShrankTheFirst

Besides Eldlich, Hieratic was the archetype I played the most variants of back in the day. I had a few janky ones besides the usual control variant:
One OTKd using Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and Creature Swap
Another OTKd using Mini Guts and Chronomaly Machu Mech
A third one locked the opponent out with Horus the Black Flame Dragon Lv8, Tyrant's Temper and Skill Drain.
Once Labradorite Dragon came out I had one that turbo'd out Ultimaya Tzolkin.

Wind-up Rabbit really is one of the best cards in the Wind-Up deck. John could have used it to play around Maxx C. When Cimo Maxx C'd his Magician effect, he should have gotten another Rabbit instead of Shark. That way he can use Rabbit to banish Magician, his Rabbit will likely die, then next turn, he has his first Rabbit and Magician coming back and he can continue his play. He also could have gone for the OTK in game 2 instead of going Shock Master. But I guess he didn't know how to do it?

Hieratic is one of my favorite archetypes. It's also an excellent example of an archetype that was so poorly designed and under supported at the time. That many players misunderstood what it was supposed to do. Leading to the otk variant and a few others.
When in reality, it was a control deck built around using your Backrow hieratic seal traps and main deck monster effects to control the board by tributing your monsters. Atum being a means to help get fodder on board. Thankfully Konami actually remembered this and every piece of new support so far has been to buff the original intended play style. Deck still needs searchers for it's spells and traps, and more consistent ways to set up our backrow as well as get back spent spells and traps.
