    The progression with Cross Duel was hilarious:
    1. Gets revealed, is laggy, and crashes.
    2. Releases, is laggy, crashes, and is super pay to win.
    3. As it turns out the game is not pay to win because Z METAL TANK is actually the best card, but nobody cared at this point.

    5. Death

      Yeah games ran on too long for how little reward you got from it. You could make a really good deck, but you had to know what you were doing before starting the game or you were practically screwed. And if you wanted to try out a different deck, tough luck, it'll take forever...But the game was so much fun (when it worked). A PC port and more forgiving gacha would've fixed the biggest issues.

    Dueling Network getting abolished at the same time as Master Rule 4 being instated definitely killed a lot of people's passion for the game. Happened to also occur at the same time we lost both of my group's local OTS and didn't touch the game again until Master Duel

    10:40 So, the biggest problem with with the Utopia name is how it affected the Zexal anime, in my opinion. Because the name "Hope" wasn't just a cool funny name they made for their boss monster, it was directly tied to the show's themes about "never giving up" and all that stuff. Which, yes, is not really groundbreaking literary content for a shonen anime aimed at children, but it's still like, one of the central premises of the show.
    This also meant that several moments and references in the show lost a lot of meaning, because whenever someone uses the word "hope" in jp Zexal, it's not just referring to the concept itself, but also alluding to the protagonist, either as a literary parallel or as an in-universe reference to the protagonist and the effect he's had on these characters.
    Like, the big final super boss monster that Shark uses in his final duel against Yuma is called "Barian Hope", which obviously represents it being the last hope of the Barian race, but also makes it a parallel to Yuma's ace. And when Kaito summons Prime Photon for the first time he shouts "This is my last hope! This is *our* last hope!".
    And all that stuff was thrown out the window because Hope is a girl's name.
    I don't even like Zexal that much I've only seen a couple episodes and I'm still salty.

      That person has never seen Zexal and it shows
      not that they need to, but it throws their argument completely out of the window.
      If they just didn’t like the name, whatever, but this much fuss about the name Hope for a monster that is QUITE LITERALLY based on the concept of hope, in a show with themes such as Hope, is just silly and unnecessary to me.

      He translated only the title, said it was the full name, and then justified the change because "it's just a descriptor."

Some of the box contents were more put together than others, some people had hot garbage, but then i saw someone who had triple Duality, 3 Gorz, 3 Solemn J, and 3 Caius. Legacy of the Duelist is how I got into the game, but my god, is it barren.
    No voice acting, barely any music, static cutscenes, almost no animations, and to top it all off, _none of the Vrains duels have any story._ The worst part is that it still has random crashes to this day. Still, it was able to hold down the fort until Master Duel came out.

      Don't forget that Deck Building in LotD is also absolutely and unnecessarily bizarre: Each YGO series only has 5 vaguely character-themed booster packs WITH A MASSIVE POOL OF 300 CARDS EACH, with no ingame way to check what's actually inside aside from a generic completion number. You can make some estimated guesses based on the booster pack character, but god forbid if you wanna play an archetype that didn't get used by any of the characters. (Examples: Madolche is in Cathy Katherine's booster, the Ghost Girl handtraps somehow ended up with Solomon Muto). The deck builder also feels very unintuitive, and overall the game just leaves the impression that the developers just... didn't have any menu UI artist on their team.
      And yet, depressingly, for those looking for a singleplayer Yu Gi Oh game, LotD is STILL the best option, especially because it allws you to play reconstructions of the anime decks in the Story Mode for both Heroes and Villains. The rift between the game's card pool and the actual card game is just gonna get wider and wider though...

    • @genesisera8364
      @genesisera8364 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@GeminiTasiri You'll legitimately have more fun with the Tag Force games if we're talking "reconstructions of anime decks"; LotD has...issues balancing deck fidelity and actual playability.
      For example, with the GX campaign duel against Satorius, they'll make you play the unironic brickfest that is Jaden's HERO Flash deck as per the anime, and then put an Agents engine in the Satorius deck so the AI can turbo out the Arcana Force EXs.
      Or the final ZEXAL campaign where Astral has all the Utopia Xyzs, but because Number F0: Utopic Future wasn't printed back when the original LotD first came out in the Pendulum era all you have for Yuma's extra deck are the Gagagas and Djiins, and they never patched the decks to add F0 in Yuma's story deck for Link Evolution.
      Or just the fact that before the MR5 patch came out for Link Evolution you *straight up could not make any of the anime plays in the GX, 5Ds, ZEXAL or Arc-V campaigns* because the need for Links to do extra deck plays in MR4 means you were flat out STUCK having only one extra deck monster on the field with the story decks.
      [Oh, you want to tune level 8 Lifestream Dragon with level-modulated Level 1s Black Rose Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, Ancient Fairy Dragon and Black-Winged Dragon to Over Limit Accel Synchro Shooting Quasar Dragon? MR4 just said nah, no Links in Yusei's story deck so only 1 ED monster at most, maybe two with Monster Reborn]
      And yes, this means that there's the original LotD where the Yuya decks could pendulum summon all his pendulum monsters from the ED, and the later Link Evolution version where that's gone and the Yuya decks remain nerfed from their anime incarnations.
      [Also Tag Force lets you date the anime characters so that's one more point against LotD]

    On the Dueling Network bit: it's not just that players are atomized. The game doesn't support casual play anymore. The speed the game would need to be at to keep DN's numbers would need to be the speed the game was at then. Yugioh is way too complex now which means the Pokémon Showdown style pick up and play aspect is dead. So now people just watch streams.

XYZ Dragon Cannon could cheese the cards stored in it, Power Tool Dragon was basically an MTG-style Voltron deck, Magician of Black Chaos/Gilford the Lightning used terrain effects, and Junk Destroyer was a more combo-centric take on Z-Metal Tank

    Shadow Duelist attendent here, here's my experience
    -Round 1 was nuts, it took like 15 minutes to get through all the scoring. Sped up after 2nd round, though
    -After Round 2, it was announced that the Tops would increase from Top 16 to Top 32.
    -About halfway through the cup, about half of the participants dropped from the cup.
    -It was kind of depressing that a lot of conversation of the general chat was just "Everyone's dropping". Which makes sense but still
    -It was a LOT of people's first time at a tournament. It was mine too, but so many people I guess didn't actually read the doc.
    -The duels that were streamed weren't even live. They were replays played on Seereax's twitch, and NOT EVEN ON THEIR OWN CHANNEL-
    -The stream the day after was a mess. The first few duels they had to redo because the games kept crashing, which took forever.

    9:59 Note to self: do not mention Commander Format by name in my Ruleslayer Format video, or else I'll incite the yugiboomer mob that can't handle change in their children's card game (even though its an entirely optional format).
    I had to explain to my friend that the rules for deck masters in this homebrew format differ a bit from Konami's actual DM format, and he almost had a fucking stroke. Like, i wanted something that operates more like the commanders in Magic, where they don't do anything while they're outside of the game, can be summoned once per turn, and can be used repeatedly throughout the course of a game. I wanted decks to have their combos and end boards be built around their deck master, and I didn't want a situation where someone could make Thousand-Eyes Restrict their deck master, never summon it and floodgate the entire table.

    • @four-en-tee
      @four-en-tee 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @Lucy5456b That's another thing too: i wanted to make sure it felt distinct from Domain and Junior Format (since Ruleslayer has an "optional tribute summon" rule among other rule changes).
      Ruleslayer Format is inspired primarily by Junior Journey, Konami's Deck Master format, and MTG's Commander Format. It doesnt have the domain deck building restriction, so it plays like Modern Yugioh on crack. That being said, it's also going to support 2v2 games and 3+ player Free-For-All matches with new rules for how the board and chain links work. The short version is that "every player is getting their own 2 extra monster zones, and link arrows which point out of bounds will be able to target every other player's EMZs."
      I'll also be maintaining an adjusted Forbidden & Limited List along with a Legal Deck Master list, but i expect people will make their own forks of this project with their own banlists and deck master lists.

      1. 4kids going bankrupt had nothing to do with yugioh, there's a ton of videos explaining it, if anything Yugioh saved their VAs because Konami bought them out to keep guys like Dan Green and Eric Stuart on their payroll.
      2. The Videogames didn't "crash and implode immediately." Konami just didn't give a shit. DDM and Capsule Monster Colisseum were DOA anyway and Tag Force/WC were very popular, Tag Force lasted till 2014 in Japan while WC lasted till 2011. Plus with the "Early Days Collection" they're clearly trying to gauge interest in new single player games.

I haven’t seen Keyforge in years but it still cracks the top 10. I’ve also never seen a game of Elestrals in person. But bet your bottom dollar I still see Dragonball Super Card Game still be played. My guess is that Konami knows that would be the fate of Rush, especially when almost no one under 20 even plays YGO here anymore. It can be rough and it’s a harder sell the longer it doesn’t release.

    By FAR the biggest blunder by Konami is the way they have genuinely killed this game with LGSs. I go to several different LGSs, and NONE of them even consider selling Yugioh anymore. They actively will not accept trade-in for store credit for cards, they dont stock packs, etc. They want nothing to do with the game anymore cause its always a financial loss for them. In a few years, I can only see this problem coming more and more to the forefront.

    I gotta say, we got Rush in duel links and almost the entire player base at the time tried it on launch. A couple months in though we all dropped it because the gameplay was ass (hope you draw better than the opponent or die) and the game currency was shared with Speed, which meant you had to either choose one to keep playing or double your yugioh budget. And nowadays it's even harder to get back into rush because after everyone dropped it to go back to speed the queue times are almost a minute compared to Speed's 3 seconds, I've even seen a guy screenshot his KoG rank up winstreak of just being paired up against the same guy 5 times in a row.
    Tldr: the rush release in duel links had a lot of hope but Konami dropped the ball so hard that everyone dropped it to go back to Speed

    The first "shadow duelist" was so bad I didn't even know there was a second one, let alone that actual Pro Wrestler and all around goat Xavier woods was part of it. Like I am a huge wrestling fan, and play yugioh a lot yet it was so ignorable that I didn't realize that it happened until this video. When it was first announced it sounded like it was going to be an event IN Master Duel where you'd duel the Shadow Duelist. I'm not even sure what the Shadow Duelist is, like is it just a social media video Konami puts out after enough people guess it, is it a livestream event, is it somehow also buried in Duel Links next to Rush duel? I have no idea what is going on with that.

    if there's any reason Konami doesn't bring Rush over, it's because they're worried about self-cannibalization, right? i think they identified that the Japanese market is diverse and competitive enough that it could bear two very different conceptions of Yugioh simultaneously. in contrast, you bring Rush stateside, where do you think it's going to pull players from? Not Magic or Pokemon, that's for sure. TCG is already very expensive, so it's a hard ask to get a community frustrated by pricing for years to double down. A lot of people would choose either Rush or TCG. I don't know that TCG can survive at the same scale if Rush pops off and eats half the player base. It's easy to say "people will play both" but you can't really be sure.
    Plus, and this is kinda anecdotal/vibes-based at this point, but I think there's very few people who actively play multiple games in paper (unless it's something more indie like Elestrals on the side), and I think Yugioh fans are a lot more reluctant to fully migrate to another game for any number of reasons. Rush Duel is maybe too tempting as an offramp if you love the idea of Yugioh but you're maybe sick of actually playing it.
    (plus Speed Duel fell off entirely which cannot inspire confidence about introducing an alternate format generally lol)

    • @blexander
      @blexander 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A few things:
      1. While the threat of self-cannibalization is there, to say it would split the playerbase in 2 is exceptionally inaccurate. If we're being generous, maybe around a third of the playerbase loves Rush, while the rest outright don't like it or don't care, so it's maybe a case of a loud minority. Also, since players who don't care about Rush rarely talk about it, you aren't immediately aware that there are a lot more players who wouldn't buy Rush packs outside of the ones who vehemently hate Rush for whatever reason.
      2. The success of Rush is difficult to accurately gauge considering it carries the YGO brand name. Like, it's clear they aren't confident in it succeeding overseas the same way as in the OCG regions. You also gotta understand that CCGs tend to last at least a few years in JP, so, Rush may end up going the way of Future Card Buddyfight eventually, just not any time soon, since YGO is a much stronger brand than Vanguard.

      As a Duel Links player i can confidently say the amount of Rush players vs Speed players is like a 1-4 ratio if even. It's got its fans but i don't think it would take a significant playerbase away from the TCG especially if they do it like duel links where they release good packs and constructed decks that don't cost an arm and both legs.

    • @blexander
      @blexander 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@lilsunny7399 Are you 100% sure you're playing the same DL as everyone else? Like, yes, the Rush boxes and SDs were all good for the most part, but the monetization is insanely predatory. Rush gets more mini boxes, meaning you gotta go through the mini 3 times for the SRs alone. Couple that with the fractured gem economy, and it does in fact cost an arm and a leg to play both Speed and Rush competitively to an extent. But that's not the fault of Rush, that's Konami's fault for exploiting the playerbase.

    Anyone else remembers *Yu-gi-oh Online* from GX era? It was a somewhat YGO MMO where you could battle in Domino City or Duel Academy with NPC or other players and had to buy code cards to get cards as well as ability to duel. I remember I came across someone selling codes who managed to crack the system and for a limited time (a month or two) was just generating the codes acceptable by the game and was selling them for a quarter of the official price.

    I suggest taking the unique card effect customizability of CrossDuel and make it a normal tabletop game. Make a pack of 7 normal cards (either by default, or stripping the effects away), and 1 a guaranteed rare effect monster (ex. Jinzo) and start with DM and DM-like cards from later eras (like weak effect monsters in newer eras that nobody uses with meh effects). Make it like a RPG, but Yugioh. Call it Yugioh Rogue, or Yugioh Break. (Rogue from the normal play/breaking the known effect rules of the normal game.) I'd love to play that. It would also make some funny content as well.

    Hot take: Battle Packs were cool in theory but lacking in execution. There were ample brick and bad cards, dated even by standards of Zexal era. There were a couple neat cards here or there, but extra deck monsters were neigh impossible to summon in the format because of the range of monsters. Had they done something like the Deck Build Packs, fairly generic archetypes with a few themes that can sonewhat knterchange with each other. It'd be far closer to achieving the goal of Battle Packs being draftable set that can be later played.

    • @geek593
      @geek593 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Obviously the decks were worse than constructed Zexal era. That's what a draft IS. Magic players had no expectation of being able to play Splinter Twin Combo in Tarkir Limited.

    • @otterfire4712
      @otterfire4712 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @geek593 I expect some level of cohesion in the packs. Dark Dust Spirit and Buster Blader aren't things to be seeing in a set that lacks any meaningful way of getting to them outside of praying that your two monsters can survive just long enough to tribute to summon them. Especially in a set that contains the likes of Pot of Greed, Raigeki, and Cyber Jar (which is also a questionable card for a limited set). Like I said, I'd expect some more tempered, especially on a first flight. No banned cards, no absolute garbage, more lower to the ground with some bigger bodies that can be somewhat reasonably be summoned and generic good spells/traps that offer some decent utility, but don't warp the pace of the game.

    • @otterfire4712
      @otterfire4712 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jeanpitre5789 that just makes Battle Packs even worse. There were already few cards that cared about typing Machina Fortress being one of them so the rule almost becomes completely moot. Had the packs been focused on a few types with some intermediary cards that could tie decks together then it'd be far more engaging to draft with. Imagine a Battle Pack that focused on Tri-Brigade's trio of types and packs contained archetypes that fit under those tri-type. Other card games don't suffer the same drafting issues because they use resources which means that cards can eventually be played to some capacity with relative ease. Battle Pack 1 having something like Dark Dust Spirit is inexcusable.

      @jeanpitre5789 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @otterfire4712 I disagree. They were good they just made the card pool overly large so it felt like you couldn't make a solid deck out of pulls. That's likely the issue you were having.

Dude was the face of European YCSs, and translated cards into German, and was involved in YUGIOh since the Upper Deck era. Farfa asked him if he wanted to do an interview and Oliver was down as long as he got permission from Konami. So he asked the people at Konami EU that he worked with since he was a freelancer and they said "that's fine as long as you make clear you're not an employee and don't speak for the company." Oliver did the interview and kept to the rules but then someone high up at Konami JP saw the interview and without asking for context or anything else just told Konami EU to fire the poor guy.

The alternative would be to hit flamberge, but leaving OSS still generates a ton of card advantage. Banning it but leaving flamberge alone means that the "plan" for snake eyes still works as an archetype, it's just inconsistent.

    Literally posted this in the thread just now, but something that was flopped hard is the combination of Duel Devastator, Legendary Duelist and Hidden Arsenal. Devastator seems like a home run series to continuously reprint yearly staples and have them in 100% pull rate storage boxes with cool trinkets to keep you interested, right? Nope. Done once 6 years ago now and never again. Legendary Duelist could be a fantastic vessel as a set to target themed Time Wizard formats, right? Nope! Shove 2 meta staples in the set and rarity downshift a bunch of rogueish decks based around rough attributes that a niche side character used that will never see the light of day even at locals (Shoutout to Richmond Salamgreat Man though, my GOAT). Hidden Arsenal, shake some more Duel Terminal Rarity treatment into more cards? Reprint some Duel Terminal cards so they see the light of day again? Hell no! Print one wave of reprinted Naturia and then never do it again. Legendary Duelist is a fumbled bag twice over because Konami even tried to rebrand it as not a miniset but just full out microboxes instead of Deck Build Pack style.
