I was really hoping for a moment in this BO3 that Alex would find Ultimate Offering and just normal summon all 9 gadgets to make like 4 Rank 4s. Would've been really funny.
Wonder if they'll do what they did in History of Jank for DAD where people were just throwing random antimeta garbage at the wall to see what sticks... even if, if I remember this era correctly, the only thing that _did_ stick was Spellbooks.
I had never seen this Tin Gadgets deck before, but just looking at the decklist it is so cool to me. I really do love this series as somebody who stopped following the game for so long, seeing cool decks like that is just awesome.
There's some cool innovation with something like Chain Summoning to give you 3 normal summons a turn. Play 3 Goblindbergh, Tin goldfish and Kagetokage and you can easily end on a field of 3 rank 4s with resources in the hand and decent backrow. A really awesome format

I’ve always wondered how Gadgets were once a top deck. This really shows off how very well, the second you manage a board wipe it’s almost impossible for any deck to ever hope to catch-up in resources.
Super happy to see Gadgets, but sad to see it on this era. Not too long after this people notice a package with King of the Feral Imps and Kagetokage which allows them to run 2 of each gadget and a ton of extenders. The extra deck is so malleable at that point that it offers a consistent chain of resources, constant answers to various threats, and its my favorite deck ever.
@bing chilling Yeeeeessss toolbox gadgets was such a viable deck. I dont think it got many tops so I doubt it will be played at that point in history, but such a valid and powerful deck.

Machina Gadget was my favorite deck of all time. I miss this era of yugioh. Even after dragon rulers came out, redox was super fun in the deck giving you rank 7 plays. I'm glad the deck got another chance to shine here :)
This video gave me a lot of nostalgia when I played yugioh as a kid during the zexal era. A lot of back and forth, molding when a battle trick was used, and even that bit of the unknown on whether you can win or not
The biggest issue with dragon ruler format at first was they were short printed rares and the rank 7s plus the rulers themselves made the deck so expensive it priced people out on top of the power level of the deck
The rurlers we're only supers and the "budget deck" of the format, it was having to spend grand in big eyes draccosaks etc, and prophecy being a grand before the extra deck that made it inaccessibile, but the format had enough cheap win cons that it made 3 or 4 relatively cheap decks very viable, the absolute staples of the format were cheap,(the traps and what not). Basically mermail spellbook and drulers we're really expensive everything else was relatively expensive

Yes the extra deck was expensive but the rulers on release we're rares demanding 10+ dollars making the main deck just them over 120 which is not cheap for a children's card game

And yeah it's a children's card game but played competitively it's always gonna get expensive and when the format warps around 2 decks and an adult feels comfortable throwing 4 figures at a deck it's gonna happen. I think of YGO as cheap Vintage MTG which helps with the pricing

Bujin's were a little bit after this. They debuted in Judgment of the Light, which was the set after the dragon rulers came out in Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, so it'll probably be a bit before we see them in History.
Cimo did still often reveal how many Gadgets he had in his hand by not summoning exclusively searched ones. The only reason to do that would be playing around Mind Crush.
@@Snom_on_a_Bench they did the problem was the sheer amount of good dragon cards that existed that didn't see play in the full turbo Druler deck they forgot about, basically there were still a bunch of competitively playable monsters that allowed the daddies to still be an engine unlimited and eventually at one, the Drulers banning was like the plant synchro nerf of it's era, it symbolized Konami not wanting a specific kind of resilient strategy playable in the future
I am 26 now and remember this form like 9 years ago at Epik Cards and Games I’m Texas years ago. By far my favorite episode and era of yu gi oh! I ran constellars personally and was happy to hear them mentioned! I did think you forgot bubblebeat though.
2012 was when I first got into Yugioh, playing on DN. I remember Machina Gadget as the deck I played and enjoyed most at the time. Dragon Ruler format had me quit playing until 2015.
Tin Gadget is one of the most simple deck but very versatile due to rank 4 toolbox. I was still playing it during MD N/R event and it is very consistent.
Yeah this format is probably one of my favorites. Just so many decks that thrived on being able to consistently place pressure on the opponent, compared to just completely dominating the game turn 1
dude, this format pre-LTGY was SICK. Super dope stuff, dino fist was a very interesting and unexpected addition to the meta game and i think that would be fun trying to break this format with modern deckbuilding reasonings.

Okay so why wasn’t this a wheel episode? The wheel episodes are so much fun, because it brings mystery to the game. I fervently wish you’d bring it back.
The two of them agreed not to use the wheel for History if possible so they can actually practice with the decks for a while before they made the episodes. It also allows for more interesting, calculated matchups instead of relentless mirrors. They still use it for Jank occasionally as they aren't as worried about playing the decks correctly or about Mirrors.

Machina Fortress has a weird quirk that due to its wording it is a valid discard for itself. Its due to summoning "this card" and being able to be summoned from the GY and Hand. So you can activate Fortress in hand, discard fortress and any other machine monster, and "this card" is now the fortress in the GY which summons itself

He's worth looking up, and in particular I recommend Super Eyepatch Wolf's video "The Undertaker: Long Term Story Telling in Wrestling." During this time I was playing Harpies and at Worlds 2013 Side Events I was playing a Chaos Piper variant. I was pulling the attention off of other games because I ran Kuribohs in my Chaos Piper deck.
