    Hi TH-cam,
In this video I am building Tamiya's lovely Fairey Swordfish Mk.II
In the video I use a mix of Mr Hobby, Tamiya, AK Interactive, Abteilung 502, Ammo by Mig, Vallejo and Microscale Industries products. I use Tamiya and Mr Hobby paints to paint the main surfaces of the model and most of the weathering is done using my favourite Abteilung 502 oils.
Please also follow me on Instagram for my build updates:

And follow me on Facebook for updates regarding my shop in Somerset, UK.

    Thanks for watching.

It's hard to believe that a torpedo from one of these Fairey's spelled the downfall of the Bismark. It was a torpedo launched from one of these planes the hit the Bismark's rudder causing it run in circles. In order to launch the torpedo from the air without destroying it from the impact with the water they had to fly so low over the water that they were almost touching the wave tops. One of the crew members had to hang over the side to see how close they were to the water and give the signal to launch. All of this occurred in the North Atlantic with launches and landings on pitching carrier decks in lousy weather. Hopefully anyone who sees this model will explore the stories of the plane and the brave men who flew them.

It’s not that great a stretch of the imagination when one considers that basically the same thing happened to the Musashi, sister ship of the Yamato.

My late father in law would have loved this.
He flew as an observer in stringbags, shagbats and avengers (amongst other aircraft) during and after the war. He was on the Implaccable as part of the British Pacific fleet.
Went in the sea twice but was rescued both times and survived the war and achieved the rank of Lt commander.

This is a standout even amount the many extremely talented modelers here on TH-cam. So many of the models I see these days have what I call a hyperrealistic look. It’s like every rivet has to stand out in stark relief and the colors are often just this side of lurid. I’m not knocking those modelers (they are all vastly more talented than me) but I really appreciate this simply superb effort.

Fantastic result to a very technical build. Nice work! I'm a big Gannet fan, and in some ways can see the roots of the aircraft in the Swordfish.. Thanks for the video!

I remember my father, who was an aircraft mechanic in the FAA during WWII and worked on many types of aircraft from Seafires to Barracudas, saying that when the Swordfish returned off carrier duties the undercarriage was all braced and held together with wire to stop the wheels splaying out because they were so worn from the hard carrier landings...

Staggering work Andy and thank you. Big thanks too for the enormous effort put into producing the video itself. A spare 45 minutes are exceedingly rare in my life but your video was well worth it.
Since being a tiny tot I have had a great fascination with flying and especially warbirds. At 54, my childhood bedroom ceiling has a dozen or so WWII planes still in combat, having hung there since the early 80s. Needless to say, my techniques were mightily rude next to yours, but I still remember the satisfaction gained with all those hours of joyous construction, saving up to buy another paint colour etc. Now my 12yo son makes models and flies RC planes too (instead of sitting at a computer). I can't wait to show him this beautiful work of yours. Warms my heart.
Cheers and thank you from Sydney - David

Despite the most blatant waste of micro drillbit life, I really enjoyed the build. The worn effect on the wings turned out great!

'Sink the Bismark!'...One of the most complicated models to build...and I always thought the chaps that flew in them had to be some of the bravest pilots...flying a WWI aircraft low level and slow with a fish in the dark in a WWII environment under heavy fire from battleship gunners and static harbour defences like Taranto...You couldn't sell that gig!
