  • This is video is a long one but there was a lot to fit in, so grab a beverage, relax in your favourite chair and I hope you enjoy watching me build and paint Tamiya's 1/35 Sturmtiger......and in case anyone is wondering I had to scratch build the front mud guards because I messed up the photoetch ones 🥴

    Only one thing better than a Tamiya kit in one's hands...seeing it the hands of a master builder and watching him bring it to life. Thanks, Ian. Always a privilege seeing you work.

    A brilliant result CWM! Just the right amount of weathering too, in my opinion. I have this one in my stash, so watching this has spurred me to finally do something with it. Looking forward to the dio for this big cat. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 !

    I tried making this exact scheme on RFMs Sturmtiger,but I failed horribly,now that you have made a video about it,I might have to get another Sturmtiger,and paint this scheme on it.Great work Ian! :)

      Why not just paint over the previous scheme? Or remove it, then paint it? Not trying to be rude or anything👍

      Nah,it is because it took too much effort,and I was already sort of drained out of the want to make the project,so I couldn’t be asked to re do something that could go wrong again,so I just painted it all Panzer Grey.

    I enjoy watching and othets they all have a bit of themselves in making kit as i have learned over time. Sure its very cool having tracks or photos edge. But like i have said. We have talent. So if i throw a tank together its for me and my part in models. It can be scifi or i can turn it in a war game

    Your Sturmtiger and the way how the work has gone to become this result, was nice to see, Ian. Convincing paintwork with this camouflage pattern
    Inspiring a d a good template when the time has come for a late Sturmtiger. Best wishes and a nice weekend, Joachim

    Awesome build!! I loved watching every minute. Super inspiring for me with my Tiger I on the workbench. The weld details and flame cuts add so much, as does the hand-applied zimmerit. Did you use Tamiya liquid cement to secure the grills on the engine deck? I never thought of that! An obvious/stupid question: does it hold the parts in place? You do this vehicle justice, all SturmTigers I saw were pretty beat up and filthy. You capture that look very well. BRAVO!!!!

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks......yes, I used Tamiya Extra Thin to melt the plastic and press the PE in to it. It only really works for largish flat surfaces and occasionally it will come off but CA glue comes apart occasionally as well👍

    Two questions:
    1) how did you get the barrel rifling to work properly? I've been trying to get it to wrap into a correct tube shape, to no avail.
    2) please show hiw you built the ammo loading crane. What gauge wire/cable did you use?

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  หลายเดือนก่อน

      1) as you say I just made a tube with the rifling scored in to it and pushed it in to the barrel. I did measure the inner diameter with a digital measuring calliper so maybe thats what you need to try. If you put the join at the top of the barrel it doesn't matter if it doesn't line up as it won't be seen easily
      2) The cable was three strands from an old electrical cable which I twisted together to form one wire

    Hey Ian. I love your videos and would like to start making dioramas but I'm not good at scale. Can you tell me what the length an 8 foot 2x4 and a sheet of 4x8 plywood would be in 1/35 scale. Thanks alot.

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      its simple maths, just divide the real measurement by the scale factor (ie 35) to get the measurement you want in scale......or.....google is your friend as well as mine - www.scalemodelersworld.com/online-scale-converter-tool.html#aScaleConvert

    Why did he apply the mr surfacer like that ?
    And why did he use the sprues to fill out holes? Isn’t this what putty is for ?
    I’m new to the hobby.

      There is a name to the channel which you can use when asking a question as using the word 'he' implies you are not asking the question of the person in the video, but rather, the audience that watches the video to provide you with an answer...

      @@CWModelling most TH-camrs don't reply to comments so i was addressing my question to the public.
      I got into the hobby after i saw a photo of your work on pintrest.
      I usually read the captions to figure out what's going on, but this video doesn't have any lol.
      anw great work and thank you :)

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always reply if I can but it just sounds wrong to me if the question isn't directed at me👍.......so now we're all good again, to answer your questions.......the Mr Surfacer is applied to mimic texture on steel plates and cast steel elements. Steel plate although flat has little imperfections so a thin layer of Mr Surfacer which is then sanded back mimics these imperfections. Cast steel has a rougher texture so a thicker layer stippled on with a stiff brush mimics this as well.....hope that makes sense.....Putty is great for filling gaps but for holes that go all the way through the styrene it can be difficult to get a flat surface when sanding and also I've had putty fall out of holes. I prefer to use spure 'dowels' as when you glue the dowel in place it bonds with the hole, you can then trim it and sand it flush with the surface.....I hope that helps👍........Nightshift has done some videos on it - th-cam.com/video/TW65lwwfJqk/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/0-kqLtRGhUQ/w-d-xo.html
