Correction. People aren't PAYING for new skills anymore, they're teaching themselves, because why pay for education to become a debt slave for life when you can't even get the job you became a debt slave for?
Look at what the employers are doing to their workers. Employers are screwing over their workers. Why would anyone want to get a college degree to become unemployed? I have 25 years of structural engineering experience, and professional licenses. I still get laid off anyway.
Sorry to hear about you getting laid off. Employers are definitely treating workers poorly. It does make working and trying to find a job very discouraging. Thank you for the comment.
Software engineer here, I was just laid off for the 3rd time in 5 years. And as usual, was the oldest on the team to be let go. The workforce is becoming a Logan’s Run scenario. Have a mercenary mindset, be loyal to a paycheck, not the company providing it.
I have a job, but because of similar experiences being mentioned by my friends, I applied to some jobs. Didn't even get an interview, but did get a response that I didn't have enough experience. I've been working with the technology, and that specific brand of it, for over 20 years...I even wrote some of the key processes they still use today to manage it...but I don't have enough experience somehow. I know more about it than pretty much anyone still in the field today. The truth is, they are pushing DEI and ESG. That means the majority population in this nation aren't even being considered for positions. Can thank thee left for what is happening now.
I'm 51 with a computer science degree, not getting any jobs, so I have been working minimum wage in a factory. My major dilemma is that I need to train into something, but everything that I look into will take a lot of money and time with little assurance of a job at the end. I can't afford to go massively in debt for a slim chance to get hired.
Great. Your working which makes you more hireable. Look at job’s internally that are entry level as they will train you and you already have a degree. Like procurement, supplier type stuff or even IT. You already have a degree and are working min wage so you don’t need to go back to school in most cases!! Just tone down your resume…a lot…highlight current job even more depending on the job, or balance, and apply to entry level jobs in a variety of jobs of interest at current or competitor companies. Look companies like entry level cause it’s low pay and a great place to start a new career for free. You got this!! 😊😊😊
Engineering degree here. Working illegally paid in cash (no taxes, no insurance, no leave, no security) for years at a car wash. There are plenty of jobs if you’re desperate.
I am 53 I hold an MBA in management however I’ve been a Master Barber for about 30 plus years and I have two very good part time jobs as a barber instructor and working in a high scale end barbershop so I am doing very well and the best thing is that I enjoy what I do.
Glad to hear that you are doing well and enjoy what you do. That's awesome. It really stinks that we are pressured at 16 and 17 years old to get all this education, when it doesn't set us up for a fulfilling career. Thanks for the comment!
I'm a male nurse, don't over look this career field; it can be very rewarding and an easy way to upper middle class lifestyle. 3 days a week for 6 figures pay is very doable.
@@RAGINGMACHOMANX I do 12 hour shifts and at the moment I'm doing 4-5 shifts a week. If I cut back to 3 days a week I would be under $200k I think probably closer to $185k if I slow things down.
9%-10% unemployment amongst the young is not normal. Such high unemployment figures are indicative of a broken job market as well as an education system that is not providing new entrants in to it with the skills that employers require.
Right. When these reporters are in their cushy jobs that they have had for 15 years, it's easy to say crazy stuff like that. America only seems to care enough about the young people to push them into the military or to riddle them with $40,000 in college debt. Then the degrees don't give you the actual skills or experience you need to land a job. Then maybe you're back to looking at the military. Thanks for the comment!
Education? You're trying to blame the teachers? That's shady. It's not their fault. It's parenting and lack of motivation in kids. You think it's the teachers fault kids can't read at grade level? We've gotten to soft giving everyone a trophy. Passing students whether they know the material or not. That's not the teachers fault they put in the work, the lowering of standards is to blame. People feel bad that inner-city kids can't do the work so instead of investing more time on them they just pass everyone it's easier that way.
I was a Firefighter, got injured.. had to switch jobfields as I couldn't be in fire suppression anymore. Took 7 months to find a job. Now I'm a Park maintenance worker making 40k less than I was prior. Very humbling for sure. They say "everyone" is hiring, but I put in over 400 applications to various jobs and might of only had a 5% return rate of interest.
Thank you for your service, happy to hear you found something, I also took a 40k pay cut after losing my job last year. I was able to switch to the public sector and I feel like I'm doing something useful, not just making a company rich.
I got fired by a "Man of God" who exaggerated that I was full time instead of part time and when looking for an additional fast food part time job I kept getting turned down by email. I was able to get a full time overnight baker job at a grocery store before my last paycheck from my previous job. If I ever come across the opportunity to be fire fighter brave I hope that it doesn't happen to begin with.
In 1982 - 1984, after leaving the military after three years, the job market was terrible. I did odd jobs for two years while I tested for civil service jobs and other positions. It was so bad that in 1984, I decided to reenlist in the military. I didn't want to but, you do what's necessary. I stayed another 7 years until 1992 and got out again. I was hired by my county 10 months later and stayed 30 years until I retired at 61 with a pension!
I was in the same position during that time. I did not go back into the Navy. However, it was hard. But I had my fiancé at the time financial support . I did get a fed government job. And I have credit of 40 years including my military time. It has Not been a bed of roses. But it paid the bills. Entrepreneurship with a trade is the best way to go. In my humble opinion.🎯💯
Here in Redding California, Jobs with a Bachelor's degree start and $17 an hour. Retail and other low skill jobs start at $17 an hour. Fast food workers are making $20 an hour but only get 10 to 15 hours a week. The entire system is broken and about to fully implode.
Now that fast food workers make 20 an hour their is only 2 or three people running a shift now. Usually 3 for rush hours and 2 during slow times. Sometimes only 1 person which the gm salary person comes in to help. How do I know you ask. Well that's me for the last 7 years. 🍔 🍟
Its the illegal immigrants coming from the southern border they double their money by bringing it back to that country while we can't survive on the competitive pay
I was a NEET for years before I landed my first job. Being a NEET made me a very bitter person and it’s taken years to recover from over that. One thing being a NEET prepares you for is expecting failure. But when you finally start to succeed, you still just wonder when you’ll fall again.
It's crazy how important momentum is. Once someone gives you that first chance, more and more opportunities will open up to you if you have a good attitude and are likeable enough.
Consider moving overseas. In Asia and the Middle East, age is respected and valued. I’m in my 60’s and working in the UAE and have never felt such job satisfaction.
Yes, I am a patent attorney in Taiwan, been in Asia for 16 years, am 60. Will stay here until retirement, whenever that happens (sooner if we hit another 2008-style recession, since companies don't spending money to file patent applications when they are laying off huge chunks of their workforce.
In Indonesia, a foreigner cannot get a work permit when 60 or over. This is for a job with any company. The spouse of an Indonesian citizen, however, may work as an entrepreneur, including teaching if she or he has a long term stay permit. Many countries in southeast Asia will not allow one to work as an English teacher when 60 or even younger. By contrast, in many South American countries a qualified person may get an English teaching job at any age.
The problem is that the job market needs change so rapidly that by the time someone is trained for a specific job then that job is no longer in demand. Technology is evolving so quickly that job training can’t keep up . Thus people graduate in debt. Trying to get a job that’s no longer in demand. Look at all the IT job layoffs.
I have a bachelor degree, masters degree, & technical certs. I resigned my infrastructure job and they replaced me with a person who had zero experience. It’s been 4 months and water systems and wastewater systems all crashed a half dozen times. My work crews left after I left and got hired by other municipalities. So a few thousand people are having really bad services and my former employer has sent emails and visiting me at my new job. But working for a city that wants great service and don’t have to be under the thumb of a city manager who has crappy people skills. The worker who took my job, was a nephew of a city councillor, and is under investigation for health violations for the last 4 months. Many younger workers I had work with me make $27-$36 an hour. I usually find workers aged 20-25 that are tired of waiting for unknown opportunities.
Wow, that's a mess. Thank you for sharing. Usually when I leave a job I am replaced by a few people with a lot less experience as well. When are these employers going to learn? They say you need to network, but what you really need to do is try to get a job where your relative works. I am glad you got out of that situation and into a much better one.
One thing people generally glaze over or don't realize or talk about... ... one of the BIGGEST DIRECT POINTS of capitalism and constitution is the ability to make our OWN JOBS. The government on ANY level is not responsible for job numbers and creation. Our markets and economies have become lopsided and backward.
If governments fail to set the optimal conditions for business and job creation, then governments cannot tax. Governments that cannot tax cannot build and maintain essential infrastructure and institutions that elevate our standards of living. Thus, governments do have some responsibility for job numbers and creation.
@BabylonCentral also... yes you do have a point... for essential infrastructure and what not. But that's finite, limited and "ESSENTIAL". What we do now is come up with excuses to build and falsely inflate numbers... so I MAY... owe you an apology.
Have you ever given a thought to do a video on the overproduction of college graduates and how too many degrees are persuing too few available positions that require them?
That’s been discussed to death and a lot of people are aware of this, it’s no surprise college enrollment has been dropping for years. I’d rather hear talk about solutions
Exactly. College is a scam and fell for it by getting my bachelor's in a dead end field that has few openings thinking I'd have more opportunities but no.
Sad but true. Many of the people bragging about making a lot of money these days are doing so at the expense of people who don't know any better. Thanks for the comment!

The pay is ok, not room for growth unless business owner. Esthetician, hair stylist, massage therapist, lash tech, makeup artist, brow permanent makeup.
Appreciate you sharing your story and the example of other trades most people don't bring up. Esthetician and hair stylist sound pretty Recession proof if you're good at what you do. Thank you for the comment.
Another thing is that it's kind of has become like a lot of other jobs where you only get trashy people in. Blue color, military and white collar have the same issues when It comes to only keeping Mediocre, Drug addicts, and the really shitty ex cons around but anyone sober that isn't a boor is looked down on. They view sober minds as autistic burnouts. Most your best and brightest, End up making their own business to fuck these slimeballs outta the running race. Pay is low everywhere. But if manual labor that can be physically grueling pays the same as sitting at the desk, most people will want to sit in the air condition. But it does seem quite easy to make employees in an industry happy: pay a fair wage. But that is an employer's last resort. Thanks for the comment!
The new working class is now called the working poor. Why the hell would you bother to work full-time just to live in your car? F that in the A. You have to become more entrepreneurial to make it.

I dislike these "just do more" job advice goons. They got hired by getting attention with a fart in front of an employer. Now we have to be industry leaders to not get auto rejected by ai.
Yea, they talked about "in my day we had to hike up a snow filled mountain to get to school." But in our day you need a PHD, you need to network for 8 hours a day, and you need 25 years experience to get an entry level job. Thanks for the comment!

I"m 57 and employed as an analyst in healthcare. Have a BS degree. In the 35 years of my working life, I've done lots of different jobs in different industries. The reason I've been able to survive during rough patches is flexibility. During the IT bust in the early 2000s, I worked as a courier for a delivery service for nearly two years. Yes, it was deflating but it was that or move back home. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to, in order to make it. The world doesn't owe you anything.

To anyone thinking plumbing is sooo easy, those guys/gals work 50 to 60 hours a week!😮. I worked for a local plumber as a data entry clerk typing up timesheets.
Young people 100% still get into engineering, not just tech. Engineers including software will still do just fine. They just won't all work at Google making $500k. Also tech jobs will bounce back. Just don't go into engineering if you hate it. Seen a good number of young software engineers who don't like the job. They do poorly and they stand out in a bad way relative to people who love the work. If you hate your first internship jump ship. As someone who graduated in 2007 I feel your pain that things like engineering internships are not as common now. But this is a temproray problem. So you may have to work at a less desirable job in the short term.
Depends, if your first internship is working with Lotus Notes (you can't make all of the problems up that software has) maybe don't interpret too much into that. For me it was the second internship. But that's just luck. That was about 10 years ago, but that piece of software still stands out as really bad. Not unique, but pretty bad.
Agreed. Also, the USA needs citizens to get the skills to work in these fields. In the future, there will be a huge shortage of programmers and offshoring won’t be able to deal with the void.
Welp, they can always join the Military. The cut-off age now is 42 for some branches. It changed my life. I learned skills and got paid for it. Veterans get the first pick for jobs in the civilian world and you can buy a house with no money down and they also pay for your education.
YMMV on military service. It's not a bad option, But we live in an age where most people that come out the service are being spied on by the government thinking that they'll stage a coup. And the va will make it a bitch to pull benefits when needed. Moral aspect of fighting wars that don't even benefit us in any tangible way aside. Most jobs in the civilian sector pay you a lot more than military, And if you were in a situation where We had a war of existentialism like russia rn People should be signing up a lot more. But at this point it depends
42?! Last I checked it was 39. Even that is bananas considering what it was when I should have joined back in the 90s. They must be desperate these days.
i’m in this situation. 23 and just got my bachelors from a top public university. i’ve been applying everywhere for the last five months and i can’t get hired anywhere. not even at a grocery store. i’m at my wits end and i have no idea what to do. my husband is in the exact same boat and he’s more skilled than me. i’ve tried all the tips and tricks and still nothing. i don’t know what to do.
Sorry to hear you are going through this. Unfortunately, there is no magical solution. You just have to keep fighting until someone gives you a chance. Good luck. Thanks for the comment.
You are applying to ghost jobs that companies use to make politicians look good. Any job that is unfilled for more than 30 days is a ghost job. Any job that keeps getting reposted every few weeks is either a ghost job or a place that is a nightmare to work at. All the rest of the jobs are being hired offshore. Cheap warm body labor from poverty stricken countries is king.
I had a TBI when I was 9. 39 now, just recently got disability. What I'm saying is, everyone should be given Universal Income because we can't have everyone be homeless.
@@brianvent3043 sorry for your disability. Universal income is not for that (disability). The failure of universal income is people feel entitled to a portion of another's income just because life is hard. No funds should be extorted from people to give to others to simply spend. The necessities such as food stamps, housing vouchers and such we can negotiate and even then a weekly requirement of 16 hours community service. I won't have my tax dollars used to enable a freeloader lifestyle.
We need a TON of these young people in the trades!! My 23 yr old neph became a plumber and is probably make 45-50 K a yr now. The older dudes are retirering and they need to be replaced!
i’m a married NEET living with my parents. my husband and sister are in the same boat. we’re all recent graduates unable to find work. my father is in his 60s and just lost his job at a big tech company. he’s getting recruited but getting cut at the end of the interview process. the job market is brutal right now. i’m barely keeping myself afloat by participating in research for pocket change and helping my mom with her business. i’m about to lose my health insurance, as with the rest of my family. it’s hard out here.
You made some great points there! See, for me; I've always had a job (JOB, being an acronym for just over broke), but have been turned down by every possible career, and/or promotion. I'm 40, with two degrees. I've worked scheisse jobs for peanuts my entire life. I currently work for $22 per hour in a warehouse. When I was in my teen years and 20's; my employers would pass me up for promotions because I was too young. Sometime in my early 30's, the dynamic shifted, and I was too old. They wanted younger people to mold into these higher, sought-after positions. I've become so disenfranchised that I've basically given up, lost all hope, and feel that I will be forced to stay at my current position until I get laid off, or my back or knees fail.
Thanks for the compliment! Yea I was just over broke for a long time too. These employers always have a different excuse to not pay people what they are worth. Definitely not a good time to leave a job without another one lined up.
Nowadays the virtual interviews, the interviewers have their cameras off while your being interviewed, it is the most uncomfortable feeling I've ever felt. I hate interviews now.
I had a video interview where one person was on view and the other was not. I agree with you that it was weird...why not simply do a phone interview where that's expected
Had a pre-interview zoom with a recruiter who was horrified by my backdrop/"green screen" choice - not for content, which was an extremely neutral snowbound landscape - but I was told that "company culture" dictated cameras must be on ( a blurred background would be okay, but cameras on). Whole experience was the usual fruitless mess, but it is one of several experiences where I was somewhat relieved to not get an offer, wondering if I dodged a bullet.
Totally. I have had interviews where I didn't talk to anyone, I just had to read prompts and record my answer. I have also had 2 different interviews where the hiring manager's "camera wasn't working" while I was sitting there with my video on like an idiot. Interviewing in 2024 is the worse. Thanks for the comment!
@LaborGains No problem, I had a interview that I recorded myself as well, such an uncomfortable feeling and I didn't get selected for the job, so frustrating.
Single Mom, laid off 3x since Pandemic = 7 sources of income. I gave up on real estate earlier this year and now I’m self-employed… I don’t make a ton of money but all of my bills are getting paid groceries and my insurance premiums so we are surviving in Austin Texas as I am growing my TH-cam channel more
I have a skilled trade. I don’t have to worry about age discrimination because there are not many people who are available to take my place. In the state of California for example, there is an acute shortage of refrigeration mechanics. You can work as long as you are physically able to. Want to lay off an older worker who is skilled & experienced? Go ahead. The competition will be happy to take that person off your hands & good luck with a replacement. They are getting scarce out there.
There are two paths: HVACR trade school or an apprenticeship program. Either way employers will want to see that you have learned the basic fundamentals first. Also HVAC technicians are in demand as well. From this field you can evolve to work on basic air conditioning/heating units, super market & commercial refrigeration, working on chillers or even venture into building automation systems & HVAC controls.
I respect the elder workers. They are very great at training the newer people and really getting them informed with the line of work. I’d rather be trained and working with an elder in the workforce over a newly grad.
I'm a nurse, i love my job, it's super fun low stress, no debt, just an associates degree and im making over $220k from all my income streams. Lots of people don't really understand the economics of capitalism. You want to have a job that generates revenue for the company. The closer you get to the money the more secure your job often is. Once the young understand that everything they enjoy is a product of someone’s labor they will realize work is literally life. Don’t stop looking, searching, interning, networking. I don’t care if the market is down or booming.
What you said is complete garbage and in fact detremintal to young people as a whole. The amount of people who get into the work is a FIX NUMBER, all you are doing is causing a pointless arms race that doesn't change the bottom line and make everyone wose off.

I earned a BSEE in electrical engineering and graduated with honors in 2001. After a year of job hunting, including 12 interviews, I had no job. I went back to school and earned an MS in physics. For many years, all I could get was adjunct professor jobs. When I finally got a full time position, it was only for three years to replace someone temporarily in a different role. Then I got a job at a college in Oklahoma. I taught 63 credits in one year, more than the work of two full time professors and was paid 6000 dollars less than I was paid in my prior job. My engineering electrical engineering degree has no value to employers aside from international schools where classroom management never comes naturally or well to me and colleges who still usually only hire adjunct professors. The same may be said for my physics degree. I finally moved overseas and teach English as a foreign language, a job where one is generally underpaid. I also earned, prior to my engineering degree, degrees in psychology and library science. They are likewise not valued in the market.

I was reading about how Thailand 20 years ago taught a bunch of people to cook Thai food, especially "Pad Thai" that foreigners really enjoyed. Then they sent them to other countries to open restaurants. If they did that with he people they shipped out, I can only imagine how much they invest in the people actually staying in the country. I experienced the same thing in 2010 and wrote about it in a song: He’s a college grad, that used to mean something, A guaranteed way of life and how to function/ But now it means nothing, when you have no experience, Even if he’s qualified, they don’t want to teach him/ Gotta find the best applicants for the job, Regardless of eagerness and the person’s heart/ Just trying to make start, he lowers his standards, Applying to positions he easily could manage/ Sent into a state of panic when he gets denied, From the simplest jobs, overqualified/ There’s no sigh of relief from his breath when, He’s constantly dealing in a state of rejection/ But he expects some respect, he won’t settle for less, He rather live on the street than check to check/ But it’s time to forget, he lost his patience, So now I guess he’s on some permanent vacation/

Manufacturing is going offshore, more precisely into Mexico, computer programmer jobs are sent offshore to India and Poland, more also to Argentina. Now H1B visas are taking DOE jobs which were mostly reserved for US citizens. Now AI (bot) is replacing many offshore call centers in India. A friend relocated to Mexico from USA and still work his American job with same salary, I think that's what is the most sensible thing to do when having a family of four, and medical professionals not charging a leg or an arm over there.
Yea organizations, (and I guess even the DOE) are doing anything they can to cut labor costs and ship jobs elsewhere to at least give jobs to foreign born people. Geo arbitrage is quite brilliant. If you can take your American dollars overseas, most of the times you can live a very high quality life. Medical costs are really low in a lot of the countries I have visited, and the attention and care is phenomenal. Thanks for the comment.
The secret is to hold a gate kept certificate or license. Union electrician, registered nurse, teacher in a blue state especially in shortage areas, welding will need 300,000 new welders in the next few years. Short term but lower paid programs like pharmacy tech, and registered vet tech will keep you employed in most states. You must have a multiple skills. Yes you do have to do apprenticeships. The best solution is to have two ways to make money. 1, a higher paying way that you mostly rely, 2 a technical skill like driving a forklift where its easy to get a job, this way you can always make some income. You can always start with a technical skill and work your way up there.
Tech is unstable, the trades are so and so (depending upon location) and the government jobs go to the connected class (who you know, not what you know). This job market is crazy, be grateful for what you have
My two young in twenties are having such a hard time even getting called back , everything is on line applying. I think the AI algorithm are what is keeping them from getting looked at. IMO . We all know companies use it , we all know they also do social media searches. I was told that black of social media can also be a red flag to companies, because they start to wonder if your reasons are based on right wing ideology. My sons don’t have basic social media accounts like instagram, or facebook or TikTok, because they think they are ridiculous and they like to focus on educational content. You would think this would be a plus for them . I truly don’t understand this time frame . All I hear when I’m in stores or work place environments is how hard it is to get good workers that actually show up , so here are my two son , willing, but don’t get called back , I’ll come in next week to see a tattooed , blue haired face with piercing kid standing behind the counter giving the worst customer service ever, but they don’t hire my sons.. it’s starting to feel like discrimination against a clean cut white male , with no social media presence.
Oh,they ask you what makes you happy and what you wanna do. But they also tell you that it doesn't matter and you should obey whoever is in charge. Feels like mixed signals. But it 's probably just me. I mean everything is working fine.
It's not just you. They totally gaslight you into thinking everything is fine. And they make you believe you will love your office job when most people don't. Thanks for the comment.
Speaking of Government jobs, be aware of DEI as a replacement for Affirmative Action. Had planed to go into the electrical power industry in government, but faced Affirmative Action after my term in the Navy. I am the wrong race and gender to be considered, and don't have purple or pink hair now. So instead of a government job, worked for an equal opportunity employer and was hired by merit instead of race and gender.
I really wish people would go into training as Careivers EMTs Firefighters Medical Personel Police Officers or Paramedics... so many job openings with few candidates.
Having a certified trade is better than a degree. Too many degrees Equals too many options for employers. When too many people are fighting for the same job, the skull becomes saturated.
That kills that saying low skill job don’t need livable wages like they use to get paid in the past. Long ago you could work as a cook and afford a house (one job). There was less people on government assistance due to that. They wasn’t living high class but they was comfortable and had a little extra income to pay stuff. Middle class don’t completely run the economy it the poor. They was getting squeezed out decades ago and now it starting to hurt the nibble class. As more get on assistance to just barely live (that also why you see a increase in crime etc) the government raises taxes. Than the middle class start losing jobs due to people spending less and less. The circle that begin with pure greed to begin with will continue. It looks like our shadow government the true ruler of the USA have hyperinflation plan instead of letting it crush. For a place that claim they founder was believer in the Bible etc the answer to their problem is there. Every 50 years there a jubilee where all debts from everyone is completely forgiving the best way to reset a economy with less pain from everyone. Also a lot of problems is answer there in the Bible. Will they do it, hell no as the Bible says the world is in the hands of the wicked and they only going to go to evil to more evil. These don’t effect them as much at the ever top they only worry is loading control of the masses. So they put more money and things and place to keep the masses in checkmate. Look at what they putting more money into and it not to help the people (sometime bones here in they if they look like they might raise up) they live hate and make sure it carried everywhere to keep the masses fighting each other and not looking at them.
Forty years ago I was hired for my post graduate education so that the school could include someone with degrees and be legal under state laws. For the privilege of doing academic stuff and paperwork as well as all the typical teaching duties I earned half what the uneducated teachers did. I took $4.50 an hour while they got at least nine dollars an hour. That's because I was expected to give back to society after getting an education and also because I got to use my education at work, and nobody else did. Sounds like people are still getting abused.
Wow, what they did to you is completely wrong. Thank you for sharing. Yes, people are still being taken advantage of. Especially the talented and well educated people.
why aren't job seekers looking into open competitive govt jobs? They are relatively secure with benefits. One needs to get foot in the door to showcase their skills. Start at the bottom , getting hired is the start.

I've been in software development and support for 40 years. This shit has happened before, but the difference this time is the scale is bigger than ever before and the sheer disregard for those who are let go is more obvious. I suggest that young engineers concentrate on survival now, and worry about polishing their career later.
The Michael Bordenaro influence is apparent in the overall style, structure and presentation of the video, complete with the pauses to pan the landscape.
It's a style that works, so why not? I focus more on Corporate America and can speak more to my actual experience there than others, so that changes it up.
Oh, wow. Then you have the skills to land a new job in this market. I have never gotten a role that way, so need to get better at getting referrals. Thanks for the comment.
there is a rise in these insulting but "not so insulting" acronyms for groups of people that aren't part of any "protected" group...it's a little bit of an embarrassment that people aren't being a little more kind to emerging groups of disenfranchised groups or whatever the circumstance may be, and instead just attempt to generalize while coming up with a passive aggressive attack on someones humanity...at least come out and say you hate them straight out...like I do...screw rich people! See was that so hard? The wealthy have always liked having a mass of poor, uneducated people who are more than willing to fight amongst themselves and blame each other for the problems of the day than direct the blame where it is due, the property owners. The truth is that there has and always will exist a class war until there are no longer any classes along property or material lines and that class war is the ONLY fight worth fighting, those who are not with us are against us and are traitors and need to be made aware of how wrong they are and how each one damages all of us, including themselves and their own family.
The idea that we live to work a job, especially a job we hate is repugnant. We do not live to be resources for greedy pricks that already have everything.
Why don’t young men get into the trades? You start as an apprentice, learn the trade for free, schooling at night is free and the pay is GREAT if your in a union. No college debt.
Not good labeling them as unemployable,it is a disservice to them and ourselves. Sooner or later we all will be that old or even older. Not true they are as useless and unskilled they can’t be hired
Yea, you can learn things on TH-cam, but these employers want "the piece of paper." They want the degree and the professional certification. But then still also want the experience of doing the exact role somewhere else so they don't need to train. It's really rough right now in the USA. Thanks for the comment!
You are are not looking hard enough. Multitudes of programs exist all over the country to get people into high paying careers in the trades, in addition to the free education training available at community and state colleges.
Unfortunately jobs are hard things that nobody wants to do. That is the truth, those jobs will always be in demand. Some people are lucky enough to get cushy jobs that don't require much skill and high technical training.
Those college graduates that are neets are just mad because A they picked a stupid major B they picked a good field but are unhappy they have to start at the bottom like everyone else. The other neets need to be kicked out. Ill bet they find a job. The job market isn't really bad per se. It's oversaturated with college graduates. PICK A TRADE JOB. I can tell you haven't had a trade/manual labor job. Very few make the demands you mentioned. 60 hour weeks maybe. I would attribute that to a shortage of workers rather than normal for the trade though, you can get your CDL and sit on your ass all day pay goes from 40k for local delivery like Pepsi (lots of manual labor in those types because you have to unload your own truck, to over the road making 60k to start, to 250k-300k for owner operators. What skill? Almost any trade job. They are in a pinch millennials and gen z are not taking over those jobs. Most trade schools are around 2 years of school and way cheaper than college. Depending on where you live you can join a union and work your way up but i didn't get steady work when i was in a union. In a right to work state it's pretty easy to move up. Average starting pay on a trade is probably 30 to 40k but you can move up in a year or so. Topout pay 80 to 120k. What you just said about trade jobs declining you read that backwards. There's a decline in applications for those jobs. 2023 saw a decline of 49% for plumbers and electricians. Trust me those jobs are in desperate need of workers

Should be one of the easiest jobs to get given the absolute dregs of society they appear to hire. No one is any “safer” as a result of the TSA, but if you can get a job there, it should be pretty easy to stay employed with minimal effort.
Correction. People aren't PAYING for new skills anymore, they're teaching themselves, because why pay for education to become a debt slave for life when you can't even get the job you became a debt slave for?
They pay fast food wages and want skilled tradesmen.
If you are in school still you don’t have to pay anything back.
The government would force a mandatory certification for all jobs.. then. Its the government conspiracy to keep their citizen docile.
youtube university is the cheapest.
I gather it's still true that in general graduates earn much more than non graduates so the debt slave stuff is not really valid
Look at what the employers are doing to their workers. Employers are screwing over their workers. Why would anyone want to get a college degree to become unemployed? I have 25 years of structural engineering experience, and professional licenses. I still get laid off anyway.
This. It makes me mad that is always the employee and professional who is blamed. Latest one is labeling them as unemployable as if it is their fault
You mean laid off, right? Did you get unemployment?
@@vinny-is-here YEs, laid off. I do get unemployment because bosses violate the law to lay me off.

Is there a huge layoffs in civil engineering right now. Does this means a recession is imminent?

So sorry to hear
Unemployment rate for those 50+ is probably 25% for those looking for full-time jobs.

9%-10% unemployment amongst the young is not normal. Such high unemployment figures are indicative of a broken job market as well as an education system that is not providing new entrants in to it with the skills that employers require.
I agree

The jobs situation was so much worse then. It took me a year to find a job.
Women were rapidly increasing their presence in the workforce in the 70's and 80's, which greatly upset the supply/demand balance of the labor market.

Haha let me just go get a business loan after racking up student debts for a high paying job
The ability to make our own income is more precise. (preferably from a jobs)
If governments fail to set the optimal conditions for business and job creation, then governments cannot tax. Governments that cannot tax cannot build and maintain essential infrastructure and institutions that elevate our standards of living. Thus, governments do have some responsibility for job numbers and creation.

As someone who graduated in 2007 I feel your pain that things like engineering internships are not as common now. But this is a temproray problem. So you may have to work at a less desirable job in the short term.
I agree tech jobs will bounce back.
Be a proper engineer - they are rarely unemployed and when they are their neighbours love them for work that's needed
Great advice. I hope you are right about the tech bouncing back. Just have to make things work out until it does. Thanks for the comment!
Those sound like great perks. Thanks for the comment.

Cheap warm body labor from poverty stricken countries is king.
try a temp agency and sometimes you can convert to being hired for permanent work with the company.

Agreed. Thanks for the comment.
Had a pre-interview zoom with a recruiter who was horrified by my backdrop/"green screen" choice - not for content, which was an extremely neutral snowbound landscape - but I was told that "company culture" dictated cameras must be on (
a blurred background would be okay, but cameras on). Whole experience was the usual fruitless mess, but it is one of several experiences where I was somewhat relieved to not get an offer, wondering if I dodged a bullet.
@@devnull1313 wow that's weird

Congrats on choosing an in-demand profession. Sounds like a great situation to be in. Thanks for the comment.
Hey rob what are the certs to brake into trade refregeration mechs??
There are two paths: HVACR trade school or an apprenticeship program. Either way employers will want to see that you have learned the basic fundamentals first. Also HVAC technicians are in demand as well. From this field you can evolve to work on basic air conditioning/heating units, super market & commercial refrigeration, working on chillers or even venture into building automation systems & HVAC controls.
I respect the elder workers. They are very great at training the newer people and really getting them informed with the line of work. I’d rather be trained and working with an elder in the workforce over a newly grad.
Just like the early 80s late 70s Rust belt depression
I'm a nurse, i love my job, it's super fun low stress, no debt, just an associates degree and im making over $220k from all my income streams.

I experienced the same thing in 2010 and wrote about it in a song:
He’s a college grad, that used to mean something,
A guaranteed way of life and how to function/
But now it means nothing, when you have no experience,
Even if he’s qualified, they don’t want to teach him/
Gotta find the best applicants for the job,
Regardless of eagerness and the person’s heart/
Just trying to make start, he lowers his standards,
Applying to positions he easily could manage/
Sent into a state of panic when he gets denied,
From the simplest jobs, overqualified/
There’s no sigh of relief from his breath when,
He’s constantly dealing in a state of rejection/
But he expects some respect, he won’t settle for less,
He rather live on the street than check to check/
But it’s time to forget, he lost his patience,
So now I guess he’s on some permanent vacation/

If USA is like the UK there's simply very little free quality training that anyone can get to better themselves
Thank you for the comment.
Thanks for the comment!
Move to DC area.
Thanks for the tip.
Rent a bedroom bathroom suite on bus stops. Double up on jobs in DC area. Keep getting certifications. Never pay more than a couple hundred dollars for a test, course, certification, etc.
Buy assets, stocks bonds gold or real estate. Avoid debt. Aim for credentials from top schools but don't be elitist about your employer if you don't have multiple job offers. Stay away from hustles like gig jobs. Consider teaching.
Ask me questions. All this worked for us. Speaking from personal experience ❤
Lots of comments are saying military 🎖️🪖🎖️. Veterans get benefits. 5% of US population but they're 25% of civil servant GS employees. Don't overthink it. Just do it.
20748 zip code. 5 bedroom house, fully renovated, $500k. Quiet street with bus stops.
You can buy a bedroom in cash for $100k with similar housemates.
Buy an unlimited bus pass for $700 yearly.
Split property taxes utilities groceries...
Then just work all the time until you have enough wealth to go wherever you want.

Wall st. Journal wrote years ago when deindustrialzation was ramping, said this these highly paid union jobs will be replaced by unstable pink collar jobs usually dominated by women.
TSA jobs in busy airports like Orlando ...
Thanks for the tip.
Should be one of the easiest jobs to get given the absolute dregs of society they appear to hire. No one is any “safer” as a result of the TSA, but if you can get a job there, it should be pretty easy to stay employed with minimal effort.
