My husband fixed the leak under our sink after watching your helpful video. Of course it would start leaking on a Sunday, the day before my sister is going to visit, so we were going to call a plumber out tomorrow, but now, thanks to you, we don’t have to. You are an absolute star for making this. Thank you xx
Thanks for the tip for using PTFE tape to fix the leak. I moved into a new house recently and the waste pipe in the kitchen had a very slow leak. I really couldn't be bothered with the faff of contacting my landlord or a plumber for such a minor issue, plus I had some PTFE tape anyway in my tool box. Took me all of 10 minutes to fix it. Job well done! :)
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I was sure my leak was going to be something serious... but thanks to your video, I fixed it myself in 5 minutes. It took me longer to move the stuff out from under the sink than it did to solve the problem. Cheers!
Thanks so much for this. I had a leak from my sink and like you said early on in the video, it was just a loose nut that needed tightening. You saved me a lot of hassle during this lockdown!
Ha ha... it kills me that a plumber wanted to charge me $400.00 US dollars plus to hook my sink back up after I had other work done...I DON'T THINK SO !!! DISGUSTING ! I'm a single woman out of work caring for my elderly uncle w/ Alzheimer's full time, that being after dealing with my mother that passed away & now I am trying to pay her past bills. I figured out how to do most of this myself before watching this video but this definitely confirmed to me what I needed to know. THANK YOU !!!

Thank you for the quick & easy video, ain't nobody got time for waffle! It took me less than a minute to replace washer & have sink up & running! I checked out your video to confirm my suspicions that it was just a washer. Great vid 👍
I was about to get a "man" in then decided to check youtube first. I'm glad I did. You saved me at least 40 quid with your very clear, easy to follow video. Thank you sir!
Thanks so much for this video. i thought I installed it badly, and it was right. i didn't include the washer in the first go. now there is no more leak. Really appreciate your video!
Thank you so much for taking the time to video this! It saved me a lot of panic. The pipes had completely separated, I'm guessing that the vibration of the garbage disposal loosened the nut over time. I fixed it in no time after a lot of cleaning up.
Thank you! It started leaking under the sink yesteday. I was just back from a day of cycling so I watched this but being tired, I stuck a plastic box underneath to catch any water in case (which I did at times) I forgot not to use the kitchen sink. Woke up fresh this morning and using a bit of duck tape to tighten the connection (also removed the U bend, cleaned it out etc) and problem is fixed, The U bend I guess is not far off 20 years old so I'll "splash out" and get a new one and if / when it leaks next time, I'll just change it.
Clear and straightforward thanks Ill give the Teflon tape a go firstly as I had Such trouble doing the the screw back up through the plughole -it kept spinning and only after a long battle finally it screwed back up-but now its leaking badly from underneath directly -not near the nuts.So i will try PTFE tape up there and fingers crossed .
Brilliant! I managed to stop the leak using only a screwdriver to tighten up the screw in the middle of the sink hole. I didn't even have to go to the hardware store. Explanations very easy to follow and understand. Thank you !!
@@dereton33 Thanks all done. It wasn't the washer, it was the bolt that holds the sink waste in from the top down, it had split in the middle so wasn't holding tight plus the sealant under the top part of the waste. All done and no leaks.
Thanks for this. I fixed a blockage and noticed that it was leaking after. I think I was tightening too much which was changing the shape of the washer. Sorted it now by not tightening as much. Fingers crossed. Thanks
We had a new kitchen fitted recently and every few months or so I have to tighten the nuts which come a bit loose as the u bend starts to leak. I reckon its the washing machine which is next to the sink causing vibration enough to start loosening them. Does that seem logical/have you come across that before?
brilliant video thank u. (3 years ago!) the plumber didn't put the black rubber ring (=taper seal?) on the outlet pipe!!! It took 3 years but it leaked today! arghhhh
Thanks for an excellent video. I had to take off my U bend as it was clogged up with fat. I replaced the washers. But should you use some sort of jointing compound on the threads to make it extra water tight?
I think I have to unscrew the Knot on the pipe and bring it to the plumbing shop; some shops don't have the standard size so they ask for the size which i can't find!

I could not tell, but it seemed one end of your trap was a flanged connection? The difference is subtle but important. Flanges are used in two places under sinks: on the top of the vertical tailpiece coming from the strainer and into a Tee connection. All other connections involve a taper, whether from a washer or molded into the pipe. If you see a flange instead taper on, say, a tailpiece going into the wall, you've got the wrong one and it will NEVER work. In the USA, entire trap assemblies are typically under US$20 and assure perfect fit. Get PVC if you can.
That was very helpful. With your help I was able to fix the drain pipe all by myself. I saved hundreds of dollars in plumber fee. Please let me know if I can make a small payment to you or make a donation to a charity of your choice.
