Thought I had it all sorted after doing all the major plumbing relines from bath to basin on a new wall, until it came to the last task - putting in the basin drain + overflow waste on the new wall hung unit. Despite using hemp in places & PTFE tape in others, that despite my reluctance to use silicone under the basin drain, it wasn't until I watched this video that it became the obvious solution in the absence of a plumbing putty. Can't do a proper test under pressure until it cures but the jobs @ my own place so there's no hurry. A check in the morning and I'm sure she'll be right mate. Thank you for your easy to follow tutorial Michael.

Impressed by the clarity of instructions and practicality of advice. If only more "How to" videos were half as good as this. Top bloke - I doff my hat to you mate.

bit late but if using a HM silicone then best to leave the nut as finger tight as the mastic will form a washer and mastic needs to have a depth of material not squashed out

Good luck doing that with a pedestal. No way you can get the grippers up there. Hardly even a thumb and finger. If it was done with silicon you'd have to smash the thing up with a hammer.
Plumbers mate. Same outcome, none of the issues.

You don't need silicone, washer is enough with some teflon tape over the thread (you didn't use any washer here).
As for the second part, lol you don't understand how that joint work don't you? Black washer is used there for sealing, not the thread, no need to put tape there at all
