    Ortur no longer produces the Aufero CNC, instead, I've been recommending the 3018 machine which comes from various companies. Sainsmart is the one I recommend the most here: geni.us/ortur-aufero-cnc

    Great video....very simply instructive and you covered all the bases. I wanted to buy the Ortur Aufero CNC Engraver as I will use it for a project w/Hardwood....Walnut. It appears that product is now discontinued. Do you have another recommendation of a non-laser engraver that would be $300-$550 as this was? Thanks.

    the weakest link is the rod, both machines have 10 or 12 mm rods and they will bend the same, even if a steel frame is used it will not differ. Supported rails or linear rails should be used for a rigid x axis

    Use NATURAL wood like not a plank but on the end of the grain like a chopping board cut from a log and there would be NO fraying and it would run beautifully. Plywood is horrendous for fraying tbh.

    Whether it is laser engraving or laser cutting, in fact, the most important thing is two points, one is the laser power and the other is the smoothness of the frame movement.
    Laser power not only depends on the input voltage and current, but also depends on the good or bad laser diode, a good diode can make you more quickly into the perfect carving, on the market these products, the laser spot compression is the best, whether you are cutting or carving, despite the product is not good but have as much as possible to Advertisement and make the spot compression of the product is difficult to show the light.@

    Dear Make or Break, I watched some of your videos and probably you already answered to a question like that ;-)
    I am pretty familiar with vinyl cutting plotters, I had few ages ago.
    I was wondering if there is a machine where I can buy the main frame and then use a laser and a router.

    The reason you can't get to the front edge is your brackets on the bottom are backwards. I had the same problem when I put mine together. I also put the bed on upside down (only had 3 cuts vise 4 on the bed. Once you turn the brackets around, you will be able to go front to back, right to left.

    Looks awesome, seriously considering it, have 3 lasers and I think this would compliment them well. I really don't see why a laser module would be good, as you say this isn't fast so loses alot of the benefits of laser

    • @makeorbreakshop
      @makeorbreakshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh the laser would take FOREVER, but if you don’t have one at all it would be nice as an easy entry. Bigger CNC’s let you retro fit a laser module fairly easily but the screw drive on this would make doing any type of raster image take forever.

  • @Edward_Black_Rose
    @Edward_Black_Rose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think you put the bottoms wrong and that's why you can't use the whole table area. Look carefully. These lower two aluminum plates, on one is attached the motor, on the other the handle for rotation. They have to be turned upside down, the protruding things on these aluminum plates are actually the legs of the machine and they have to be down. If you turn these parts upside down, the table will be able to pass over them and have more space for movement.

    Thanks for your review.
    The correct term for the "bit" is a cutter.
    The big negative I saw was that the lead screws are not protected from dust and swarf, especially the Y screw (under the table).
    That would be my FIRST thing to do is cover it.
    I would imagine the accel/deceleration can be changed. You just do not want to make it too short of the steppers will miss steps.

    6:10 you put the collet on upside down (backwards). =) i'm sure its just something that slipped by editing but for those using this as reference... put the collet into the nut (the text on the collet should be facing the work peace; there's also a little notch inside the nut for pressing collet in and out); screw collet and nut into spindle loosely; and then insert cutting bit into the entire assembly before tightening everything down.

    • @johnsmith-000
      @johnsmith-000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old post, but I just wanted to post the same observation. No wonder there was a chatter, and no doubt the results would be much better with the properly installed tool. And it's obvious the actual cutting was also done with the collet upside down because there's a huge portion of the thread on the arbor left unused, but also because the resulting cut was much worse than I'm sure this machine can do. One should be careful with the reviews like this, it can do a lot of damage to the manufacturer...

    You should be able to change the acceleration rates, that would speed it up. Seems to run GRBL, laser may be possible but you’d have to add a some control hardware to turn it on and adjust the intensity. These may be in the laser module already.
    Really good to see the all metal construction and lead screws are much more rigid than belts, I think this is a good product if you are ok with the smallish working volume. It seems you can hang a long workpiece over the front and out the back so that helps.
    The exposed lead screws always bother me but I don’t have that so can’t say how big a problem it is, I do know that I do a lot of vacuuming and chips and sawdust goes everywhere anyway. The Y axis is hidden underneath and the X screw is high up so there is some protection, Z is more hidden, maybe I’m just paranoid. Guide rails are more exposed but the bearings do help if they seal against the rods.

    • @makeorbreakshop
      @makeorbreakshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great point! I didn't think to mess with the GRBL settings for acceleration. The bearings do a have a pretty good seal so I think (hope) that dust wont be a huge issue.

Then you will invest approx. twice as much money (or ten times) in properly selected machine parts (4080 profiles, 20mm linear rail guides and ball screws) and happily build your own machine (that's what I did). Considering, spending the cost of this machine for a hands on class on how not to engineer CNC routers will be totally worth it. It was for me.

    $th. Nov. 2020 $300, 17th. Nov. 2021 $610. If materials were sourced in 2020 and item sold for $300, one year later the item is sold at $610, that's one massive profit margin.
