Martin Mendez proving you don’t need a dark glass pedal and crazy looking bass to have a good metal tone. I prefer his more traditional tone to the super clacky sounding bass tones that everyone in death metal wants now. Sometimes they have a place but his bass tone on deliverance is so good
8:08 look closely. Peter and mikael locking eyes and thinking in unison "wow!" they were such an awesome guitar duo and obviously were two peas in a pod musically and best mates
This was definitely my favorite lineup of opeth. Nothing against newer members and I actually like the newer albums but I miss Peter and Lopez and can’t help but wonder what opeth would sound like if they were still in the band.
In the making of Ghost Reveries they explain that Lopez got ill, he got some kind of blood infection problem and took a time to rest, but later he started having panic attacks and stuff so he decided to quit. But, he formed a new band named Soen, which is very cool :)
I don't understand why the limited themselves with regards to time so much in these studio sessions? Why not rehearse a bit more before hand, or have a bit longer in the studio (ok, money perhaps)? Seems strange how much they rushed it. I understand Mikael wasn't totally happy with Deliverence, and we might've had an even better album had a bit more time gone in to it. It's not like they were leaving much time between albums back then. They were pumping them out. And quality, too.

You are damn right.
He's looks like Charley Day in a metal band!
Thank you I love creamy deep bass tones and it's heartbreaking to see people walking away from that in advantage to more modern tones
4:48 Mendez: "Puta madre... Will this outro ever end?.."
You can see and hear Lopez's fragile soul when he speaks.

agree 100% I miss Peter so badly….I have his autograph framed along with the rest of the true classic lineup
1:28 As a guitarist, I can relate to that.
I'm deaf and this is 0% relatable!
I hope Opeth never gives up. They are Masters of Music! Such a blessing to us.. .
6:45 thats probably my favourite Peter Lindgren solo
@Rritobak Dutta yes indeed
Haven't got that far yet, but I'm presuming Fair Judgment? My favourite is probably Beneath The Mire (the outro).
@@Cheximus no it's the first solo in Wreath
@@arklowrockz Ah yes, I realised later!
Absolutely his most haunting solo
Martin Mendez: "Mikael is the main villain"
Peter Lindgren you are awe.
"I don't consider myself a great lyricist"... Dirge for November lyrics would like to have a word with you
Right! Opeth legitimately has some of my favorite lyrics.
11:35 Trying out the lyrics in his head to a beat?
Likely working out the timing of the vocals, yes.
Nah he's just fixing the table

Legend hope your good Martin!
Anyone know what pickups they were using in that blue PRS?
8:05 they could've kissed on camera and it still would've been less gay than whatever this was
What happened to Lopez exactly?

@@harmont752 Soen is a great band 👌
@@harmont752 woah i had no idea lopez was in soen.
Who does Martin Lopez talk about as his idol ??? Didn't understand
Gene Hoglan
@@maksymfresh6274 Who also filled in for Lopez when he got sick and couldn't tour, before Axe joined full time.
Akira Jimbo also.
He talk about Horacio "El Negro" Hernadez, terrefic afrocuban drummer, and Akira Jimbo, who played for Casiopea. As well as Gene Hoglan
