Even though I love Opeth's older stuff, I think that Soreceress is a tremendous album.
I like the new one even better...
Sorry not sorry but Opeth lost me after they stopped being a Death Metal band. They formed as a Death Metal band and slowly went prog rock and shit the fucking bed. I will always love Opeth, as far as post Watershed and possibly Heritage they suck. Mikael said himself he doesn’t give a shit about anything but money now so there ya go. Fuck em

This has given me a new perspective to listen to Sorceress.
To see how the tracks were recorded, what emotions were involved, and how overall the band and producer felt, is very important and it sets a tone and mindset for the listener

I have that same feeling years ago while I was watching Steven Wilson's Insurgentes movie, I created an uncondidional love for that album
Fredrik almost never smiles. He is the man for the job, absolutely professional and amazing guitarist.
Mendez is the most amazing member of the band, without even talking...I only need to see him while standing and it brings laugh on my face!
Miss his hair swaying though :-) It was a classic move on stage back in the day.

Plenty of death metal bands out there, rock music was in short supply. I wouldn't call the change in direction "selling out". In fact it was brave. Thanks Opeth.
@@saltpeter7429 there certainly aren't as many great Rock bands like there were in the 70s and 80's, I wouldn't say this is selling out at all, it's far too progressive to really be considered mainstream

The mix of this album is so bass heavy it is hilarious we get no bass or drum footage 😂
I once heard Mikael slating electronic music just like any rock purist, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him handling a Moog synthesiser! After all, rock and metal wouldn't exist without the wonders of electronic engineering.
I think he meant the stuff purely created on some computer software
THIS is what I expected of the behind the scenes vid Opeth themselves were posting, not just a bunch of interviews of them being like "yeah I tracked guitars today n had a beer it was fun"
I love Mike's "fuck yeah" face at 3:24 when Frederik pinches that note. I love the album cut but I kinda wish that last version made it to the record.

The album is so uniquely great, I think especially spring mcmlxxiv, that Frederik is playing here, could be a number one single. Quite a shame that most of the reviews in the prog and metall magazines don't even mention it.

One thing I learned from 20 years in bands is to let everyone contribute. The Dark Side of the Moon approach. Otherwise it's too one dimensional and you don't get full effort from all the band.
