- The first new Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch broke new ground by brining a creative AR experience to Mario Kart Live Home Circuit. The idea of building your own track and racing through it is something that can capture the imagination of any kid (or anyone!). The process of designing a course based in your home can be very fun, but completing the game is very boring. You'll see what I mean when I complete Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.

Control a real-life Mario Kart with Nintendo Switch and watch it come to life in the game!
Race a real-world Mario Kart through your home! Use the Nintendo Switch system to control your kart and watch as it reacts to what’s happening in the game as you boost and drift to victory. Your in-home course comes to life on-screen with a view from right behind the driver’s seat. Place gates and customize courses in the real world, then see them come to life with different in-game environments, like jungles and snowscapes, and obstacles like Piranha Plants. Use objects from around the house to customize your courses, then watch the game transform your home into the world of Mario Kart! Zoom around the house with up to three friends. Challenge some friends to race in the Grand Prix or try out your personalized course in a Custom Race! This was a really cool video. Using the toy as a camera for the show was brilliant. Your crew’s courses looked great too. I may never play this game, but it was great to see how interesting it could be.
As someone who's oldest memory is playing ''Grooverider: Slot Car Racing'', learning this exists is a pleasant nostalgia trip.

TBH I didn’t think Jirard would actually do a Completionist episode on this game, mainly because this kind of game doesn’t really feel like it’s meant to be “completed” (IMO at least), but it’s awesome to see him play it anyway!
I thought since this is a physical thing, he would talk about how long till the batteries run out, or the quality of the cars or the durability
Yes, I was wondering about the batteries as well.
So many Frog's in a car. This game also seems really interesting not so much in an I need to play it sort of way but in a this is a prototype for more refined games of this nature.
I work Kohl's on Black Friday for the past 3 years leaving my family in the middle of thanksgiving and working two to three shifts in the span of 48 hours.. That intro had me sobbing :( Thanks Jirard, it honestly means a lot.

The Box Fort track looks like one of the coolest homemade tracks ever! I'd definitely make something like that if I had the cardboard for it!
It required a LOT of finessing from the TOVG team as the cart really can't handle anything but a gradual slope, but we really wanted to add some levels and variety. Too bad then we couldn't really race on it that much in anything beyond 50cc!

agreed, for many games, i just aim to finish it, collecting only those that has tangible gameplay benefit.
Otherwise most collectible are just things that i will grab along the way, if i missed them, then so be it.

Yeah it sucks. He continuously puts himself on strict timelines to complete games which make it so he has a worse experience with games that are designed to be a more casual experience that you're supposed to take your time on.

I think this episode's bonus mix is my favorite one thus far. Choco Island + DKC sounds like something straight outta Silvagunner's vault.
I feel like, to get the best possible 200cc experience, you need to just make a focus on _WIDE_ paths for the AR car. Large turns that aren't very sharp, good straightaways for boosting, maybe even a few shortcuts that would require a mushroom to reliably reach. All the things we know and love.

I played this game in a Costa cafe, two player with a friend, Mario & Luigi karts. The staff were really friendly and let us build a massive course around the quiet store. Multiplayer is where this game excels

Sucks that you had to be playing the game on a deadlines it only makes sense that it would quickly become monotonous. I've been casually playing the game with family, it's been a lot of fun
That’s what I got from this video. If you approach it like work (deadlines, only playing for unlocks) then it’s going to feel like work unsurprisingly. If you play with it, treat it like a game, because it is a game, it’s amazingly fun.
Since you own it, can you explain to me what he meant by tricking the npcs? Wouldn't he have to drive through the same loops they have to go through?

I agree with your conclusion. It's a fascinating experience and novelty, but for which we shouldn't seek to complete. I bought both sets, play around with them from time to time alone or with friends, and am always glad when I unlock something new here and there.

Love the custom tracks, and I completely respect the decision to cheese the AI. The game asks for a lot of time with very little reward, speeding up the process a bit makes sense.

You know, I've always wanted the Completionist to take more of a review angle. Completing games is, usually, just not fun to do given any kind of time limit. As a result, I'm pretty sure Jirard ends up disliking games that are great, just because of how much content they have, or how he has to play them to complete them. I used to want him to do games I love, but I've realized I'll always disagree with him because even though I completed them, I did it out of love. He did it out of obligation. Those experiences aren't the same.

I am just surprised by how good the camera is on the RC cart. The AR is also so neat. I will never personally play it because I know I'd get bored of it too fast so I'd be wasting $100+ for this thing but still really cool technology.

I went to Game Stop for Black friday. Got there 45 minutes before they opened. There was a line like 40 people long. About 20 minutes before they opened, someone came out and said "Hey, we don't have any Xboxes or Playstations. Sorry".
Thank you for the review. My room (where the switch is as well) is very narrow so I would probably have no way to play higher than the lowest speed. It does sound pretty neat that the kart does actually have some kinda limit based on the cc you pick
this game in the confined playstyle he had to complete it in i think tarnishes the point and joy this game can truly bring. It's not meant to 100% complete. I think it's better off played in short bursts with friends, in a board game or arcade style of play.
..like a classic game of monopoly never really changes, but that doesn't stop it from being a chaotic party night with the mates, multiple times over.
Also the higher speeds are crazy fun, but need adequate space to enjoy them.
One thing i recently thought of implementing MK Live in was bike riding around town. So go on a bike ride with friends, and look for new courses to play at.

definitely want to know what he thinks of Starlink ( especially the Switch version with the additional Star Fox content ), but it's a completionist nightmare. Every ship & weapon levels up individually for every pilot. So in order to complete the game you have to have every pilot, ship & weapon and reach max level with everything on every pilot while also maxing out every pilot. And boy is it grindy af....love the game but the grind drags it down a bit.
@@newageBoundhippie Well I haven’t finished the game yet, but I wasn’t planning on going the Completionist route anyway... Although I think I do own all of the ships and pilots! (Which actually wasn’t as expensive as it seems on paper, mainly because the Starlink figures were so heavily discounted in stores that it made collecting them so much easier and affordable for those who still cared about the toys to life aspect of the game, including me!)
@@Supercatandrewman yeah, my comment was intended more like how his perspective on it would likely be. I have all the pilots, weapons & ships as well albeit digitally as the eShop had a huge sale on them last year...but after trying a few other pilots a little I ended up defaulting to Fox & mostly sticking to the Arwing due to the massive grind. Finished the main game & most of the Star Fox stuff though, definitely a fun game to just play. It's basically just finding the combination of pilot & parts you click best with & just going with it

It’s hard to sum up Starlink in 1 sentence, but the shortest way of putting it I can think of is... Starlink is sorta like Skylanders meets No Man’s Sky!... Or should I say, No Man’s Skylanders? (*ba-dum tss*) Corny jokes aside, adding Starfox definitely adds a nice flavour to the mix, and because of it the Nintendo Switch version just might be the best way to play Starlink! (Although I don’t know how well it runs compared to the PS4 or Xbox One ports, so I can’t say for sure which is technically the best port of Starlink, but the Switch definitely has more to offer)
Honestly I really liked the Toys To Life genre while it lasted, it’s too bad Starlink died out so fast, it was definitely one of the more unique and innovative toys to life games IMO!... I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of Disney Infinity or Lego Dimensions, but I’ve got a decent Amiibo collection, and Skylanders has always been my all time favourite game series even to this day! I’d actually like to see Jirard review one of the Skylanders games (most likely Spyro’s Adventure) sometime in the future!... Although I doubt he’ll give it the “Complete It” rating. While I am a passionate and dedicated fan of the series, I will say that I don’t think it’s ideal for hardcore Completionists. One of the main reasons would be that, while Skylanders is not pay-to-win, despite popular belief (technically you only need 1 figure to play the main meat of the game, and the standard game comes in a starter pack with at least 3 figures and the USB portal/platform, basically everything you need to play the game), however, it is “Pay To Complete”, as a lot of the side areas are sealed off and require a specific 1 of 8 elements to unlock them, which means you’re required to own 8 figures (most of which are sold separately obviously) in order to access everything and complete the game, and that’s just the 1st game. That’s probably the main reason why I wouldn’t consider Skylanders to be an ideal game for Completionists, especially hardcore ones like Jirard... Though I would definitely give it a “Finish It” rating for sure! (Sorry about that long rant)
@@newageBoundhippie Oh yeah I actually did get one of the Starlink collection packs on eShop during a big sale! I think it was the one that had all of the new ships and pilots that were exclusively digital and didn’t have any physical figures available. Still cool though!
Did not expect this game. Very surprised
When this dropped I didn't think much of it, then days later it hit me and my heart sank as I realized this is the dedicated Mario Kart game we're getting for the Switch. No new Mario Kart for the system just a Wii U port and this. So I'm predisposed to hate it.

Thank you, Jirard. Thank you for acknowledging how hard Black Friday/Christmas can be on retail workers. This year has been a particularly bad one for me, and some days have made me feel like just giving up entirely because I’m working for people who don’t care about anything other than the bottom line, paying me dirt to work my ass off for people who just want top take advantage of me.
I don’t tell that sob story for sympathy. I tell it because hearing you say what you did was such an unexpected delight: I come to this channel to forget about how bad my problems, and hearing this was just another wonderful reminder to keep my goddamn chin up until things get better.
