      My daughter struggled with mental health and chronic pain. I wish I had known about the ketogenic diet before she died from a drug overdose. As a nurse, I felt so helpless trying to help her. I understand where you are coming from.

      Lauren and Hannah ❤. Hearing your stories has given me a lot of hope in living with depression. I can't thank you enough 🙏🙏🙏 I too have been attempting a Keto diet. Compared to living with some of the awful psychiatric symptoms its been pretty easy shifting to low carb. I too am quietly hopefull that this might be a game changer in managing my MH. Much love from Scotland 🌈🦋 xx

    I like the ritual of the soda water in the wine glass.
    Very impressed by Hannah's habit of leisurely run.
    Well done to both of you.

    Thank you all so much for this excellent podcast and great information. I have been following Lauran for several months and watching your podcast, Metabolic Mind. I live with Bipolar with psychotic features and have, along with Lauran, a month ago gone on a medical Keto diet. I have experienced a significant improvement in my symptoms. As of yesterday, I have reduced my antipsychotics under my doctor's approval. Thank you all so much. I finally have hope for a better life.

    I Think it is truer to say metabolic illness which affects the mind. Rather than mental illness.
    Hannah is right when she talks about illness.

    Lovely to see that it seems to be working! I share Hannah's enthusiasm that this is a huge event for metabolic therapies, seeing it documented in this way. Lauren who I am sure will improve terrifically could also potentially help so many others

    Wonderful interview with great interviewers! I've been following her journey and gotten some tips for my own recent keto life to manage my mental condition - I just started meeting with Nicole too, hoping to get better results as we work through my issues because, no it is not always an immediate success so I'm hopeful to hear more stories and take it day by day. Thank you for sharing!!

      @@metabolicmind I figured out that I had to not believe in my hallucinations and delusions because whenever I would get in an argument the hallucinations would go off into the background and then slowly return. I simply began to ignore them and they lost their power over me.

    I started low carb (not quite medical keto) a week after she started her journey. I need to lose weight and thats a plus, however, I really did it to feel better. Having Crohn's, and pituitary andenomas that effect my moods, ability to deal with stress, and thyroid. I was feeling horrible with tons of symptoms from aging. I am experiencing a mix of benefits and struggles that both her and Rob are experiencing. I am seeing so many changes for the better at this point that I am excited to see were we are in 6 months. I hate the planning part of food so I use an app and a food service that helps me get over all the hatred for cooking and food planning.

    So impressive!!! Sending this on.... I had followed up on Lauren and her interesting blog. I also had discovered Dr. Chris Palmer's book and then as a consequence Metabolic Mind. I had a close relative, dear to my heart, who suffered from Schizophrenia . So that's why I take an interest. I am so impressed y the changes Lauren experienced. It is really impressive and incredible that Lauren is becoming the person she always was inside and always wanted to be. The same is true for Hannah and others who had this astounding success with shifting their diet. Heartfelt congratulations from my side for this!!! This is really beautiful to see!! Impressed also of Rob, Lauren's spouse, who is a bright light and so supportive.

    The stigmatising also comes from psychiatrists and those who should no better when they apply an accusatory tone to describe uncontrollable symptoms. Eg. "You are aggressive, argumentative, angry, difficult..." As if a cardiologist would criticise their patient for complaining of chest pain!

    Hannah, can you get off the Keto diet and remain free from bipolar disorder? Or do you have to remain on Keto for life?

    • @metabolicmind
      @metabolicmind  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your question! Right now, there is not enough research to answer this question, and it appears to vary depending on the individual. Anecdotally, there appear to be individuals who can go off of the diet and stay stable, as well as people who experience mental symptoms when they go off of the diet, even after an extended period. There is a need for ongoing research to better understand the neurobiology of this intervention, including individual treatment response.

    Schizoaffective disorder is basically a form of schizophrenia but it’s not exactly the same. As a former full blown schizophrenic I wouldn’t know what to recommend other than to reject whatever delusions and bad thoughts that you might have. I can say that auditory and visual hallucinations and delusions are not your friend. Maybe the diet helps to help focus on reality.
