How fast can you drive on the German Autobahn?

If you have ever wondered how fast you can drive on the german autobahn and said, "nevermind Its unlimited, you would be wrong. You cant just drive at top speed all the time.
The Autobahn has a speed limit in most places and unbeknown to many, actually has a general speed limit assigned to it, which you should not exceed!

Many correct facts about driving on the German Autobahn. Of course you can drive (where it is allowed) as fast as the car can, but from the perspective of insurance you should not drive faster than 130 km/h. So, if you drive faster and cause an accident, the insurance company can refuse to accept benefits.

I remember when i was a child, we were driving through Germany on holiday, and my dad was so proud and ecstatic when our Daewoo Nexia with a 1.5l 80hp engine reached 200km/h down hill. And then we were casually passed by what appeared to be a soccer mom in an X5, then a Mercedes taxi, then a 5 series touring with 3 kids in the back, all of them casually doing well above 200. I loved it. My dad's disappointing expression was so funny.

even with speed capable cars (260kph+), i barely exceed 240kph (maybe in 1-5% of driving) cause no matte how big your brakes are, your speed and reaction time will make it harder and hard to dodge the idiots. Swiss, Dutch or French or dumb German drivers regularly pull up into the left lane with less than 130kph. Some dont even signal and that doesn't result in the nice ride you imagined if you're pushing more than 250kph. Also arround bends and hill tops you cant push much more speed because you need to see more of the road than you need to react and break. Stuff can go wrong really quick and even though its allowed, remember that you actually wanna arrive somewhere alive and speed it's worth your or potentially many more lifes. Drive as fast as you can control the car on the given road and traffic conditions. Rather 20-30kph slower and 5-10 min later than dead.

Best time for speeding is during summertime on a sunday morning. 5am, just when the sun kisses the street, the Autobahn is completely empty. The air is still fresh because of the night so your turbo can take a really deep breath, the sun is behind you and is slightly warming the asphalt, so your tires are getting quick grip... i did this often when i was younger, with a highly modificated Golf MK2. Biturbo charged V6 engine, syncro drive, 650hp. Just you and the empty A4 between Dresden and Goerlitz.

I was in germany in january and i put the pedal to the metal on a skoda fabia 2018 1.0l.
Could barerly reach 180 downhill , im used to driving my bmw that felt 180 was a piece of cake.
