  • I made the best shot of my life today. I shot a penny at 15 yards with my Ruger Super Wrangler with .22 Lr. I wasn’t a 100% satisfied with the groups my Super Wrangle. So I tried a few simple things to tighten up my groups. In this video I show a few simple things anyone can do to tighten up groups with a pistol or revolver. I am now happy with my Ruger Super Wrangler. My eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be, old man eye sight. I show you three things that will help you see your target and sights. Enjoy and thanks for watching.

Finally bought a super wrangler last week after months of looking for one here in GA.

what made you choose the super wrangler over the rough rider with adjustable sights? I have a few rough riders, but I really want the one with the adjustable sights and then ruger dropped the super wrangler and now I cant decide. I've held both at the store, but I have more firsthand experience with my rough rider

@acesoftrul3z I’ve never owned a rough rider but I’ve shot a few. They shoot great and is very reliable and parts are easily found. Basically the only reason I went with the Super Wrangler is I’m a Ruger revolver fan and have thought I would try to get one of every Super revolver Ruger makes. Super Redhawk I have. Super Blackhawk I have. Now I have a Super Wrangler.

I picked up a Ruger Super Wrangler about two months ago but have only managed one trip to the range. With CCI Mini-mags it shot a little low at 10 yard but I'm having trouble with my 73 old eyes. I had cataract surgery in Aug. and Sept. of 2022 and was fitted with new glasses in Oct., a month later. Now I can see better without the glasses after they've had time to heal but my close vision I need to use reading glasses. Next time I hit the range I'll remember to take my reading glasses and see if that helps me see the sights better. I only shot it with the 22lr cylinder because I also took some 22 mag. ammo but forgot the 22 mag cylinder. Yeah, I'm getting a little forgetful too. Nice video and good shooting.

I’m 75 with pretty good 75 year old eye sight - I use over the counter reading glasses when at the range. I usually get very tight groups with both my regular Ruger Wrangler and with my Ruger Single Six. I do find that some days I’m better than others. Also different ammo matters. Sometimes I get “keyholing” with cheaper bulk ammo - specifically Federal Value Pack Champion 36 grain. Thanks & enjoy your Super Wrangler - I just might get one when the market settles down.

Thanks for watching. I ordered a pair of 1.25 full lens magnification shooting glasses should be here in a couple of days. I’ll see how they do. I’ll be putting a video up late tonight on shooting different brands of .22 lr through the super wrangler.

You should always see the front sight clearly, and the target should be less clear when using handguns.

If you only need glasses for close up i.e. reading etc. try taking a regular pair of sunglasses or safety glasses put a piece of non transparent tape on the portion of the lens you look through to shoot. The tape should have a small hole through the center to peer through. You may have to experiment with the hole size. Perhaps start with a circular hole about 1/16" diameter. When you have the hole size correct & properly aligned you will be able to see the sights & the target clearly like when you were younger. It's like having a peep sight.

Take it from an old school shooter, I'm 64. You need to get rid of those readers, an go get regular glasses, prescription from an optometrist. You will be surprised how much better your groups an site picture will be. It has allowed me to go back to my youth an shoot really tite groups, once you make the switch to real glasses, you will be pissed you didn't do it sooner.

Shooting that group from 30 feet away is mighty good! My groups with a GP100 are good. Not so good with a regular Wrangler. Partly because the sights are difficult. I have a super wrangler on order.

Thanks and thanks for watching. Yeah, I’m pretty happy with my last groups. You will like your Super Wrangler. From what I’m hearing from people they are hard to find now. I have zero complaints with the Super Ruger and I’ve put at least 800 rounds through it.

I have 7 River handguns. The least accurate is a single six, one of the early ones that has 4 clicks like a Colt. The two most accurate are a 4 5/8 44 Special using 250 grain hard cast bullets under a weak powder charge. 2" at 25 yards. Even more accurate is a Blackhawk 45Long Colt, same barrel length, using 300 grain hard cast under healthy dose of 2400 powder, my deer gun. Just over 1" groups at 25 yards! Almost unheard of. Anyway, I just don't get excited about rimfires. I miss the big holes, the recoil, the big cartridges, the power potential. I reckon it is a good thing we don't all like the same kind of shooting, and the 22 has so many advantages. If I shoot a rabbit or squirrel with one of my puny 44 loads, I will get no meat from the critters front half. Thanks for the video. Those Super Wrangler are nice guns. I'd like to have one just because it' a Ruger. I got 4 carry guns, all Rugers. No, I ain't rich; it is a lifetime of collecting. God bless.

    • @HotLeadretired
      @HotLeadretired  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have never own a rimfire pistol/revolver before I bought the Diamondback Sidekick and the Ruger Super Wrangler. I own a Super Blackhawk .44 my most accurate revolver and a Ruger Super Redhawk .454. I like big bore wheel guns but I figured it was time to get a rimfire. Thanks your watching.

Were very close in age and as our eyesight worsens so does our ability to see the front sight (most important) & the target. I need to match the proper glasses to the shooting I intend to do. This is compounded by lighting conditions which also makes me change glasses. Experiment with different power reeders and prescrition glasses until you find what works best for you. There is also a device you can put on the ouside of your glasses lens called a Lyman eyepal which is a small plastic circle that forces your dominant eye to focus more intently. You'll see profesional target shooter use these. This works for some people to give a more crisp sight picture. They can be found pretty cheap on the net.
Absolutely agree with the targets vs plates. You don't see many people shoot actual targets with a pistol/revolver anymore because a hit on 8'' steel at 7-15yards is a hit & that's good enough for shooting steel. However, that doesn't tell us anything about the actual inherent acuracy of the gun. It would also tell us if that shooter was a consistently accurate shooter & many of the people shooting those plates (the ones that don't compete profesionally) don't want you to know how good/bad they really are

I finally worked out the glasses. I now use a 1.25 magnification full lenses safety glasses I found on Amazon. They work well and my shooting has improved so much. I had to re- sight all my pistols. I can see rear sight, front sight and target now. Thanks for watching.

I have the same gun, it's not uncommon for revolvers that shoot both .22 Mag and 22 LR to not shoot 22LR as accurately because the bullet diameter aren't exactly the same, 22Mag is a little bigger. I put a Dawson Precision fiber optic front on mine, same one as for the Ruger MKIV guns. But yeah I've noticed mine is more accurate with 22 Mag.

I have a regular wrangler .22. It is Not accurate . Not compared to my single six with 6 inch barrel, or my Ruger Bearcat with fixed sights and 4 inch barrel. I've tried all sorts of ammunition. What the other 2 can do at 20 to 30 yards , the Wrangler strugles to do ar 7 yards. It is pathetic. Accuracy counts. Ruger should be ashamed of this revolver. All shooting was donedone over a rest. To recover my happines, I got out my High Standard Military, with either of it's barrels and CCI standard velocity it gave better groups at 50 yards than the wrangler did at 7. 😢
