      Android apps are just sooo bad though. Even the apps that are on both platform from big companies/developers, the polish of the iOS apps are leagues above the Android counterpart. Don’t get me started on the design of smaller/indie apps and the variety of them. Due to my job I rocked both Android and iPhones for so many years and I always loved Android OS but hated most 3rd party apps - which is like 80% of the experience of a phone outside of the web browser and photos app. After a while though I just really became annoyed at how bad Android apps were to the point where I used my Android phone only when I had to and eventually stopped rocking both phones all together.

    The passport size was superior. There's not much point for a square screen when open. Watching movies = thick black bars. Watching vertical videos on social media = thick black bars too. Lose/lose situation. They should've kept the passport size and pushed for software improvements for better compatibility. But at least overall it's still better than Samsung's Fold, I guess.

    I am way too deep in the iOS ecosystem to ever consider an Android phone, but this is the first phone from outside the walled garden that I’ve wanted in years. I really hope Apple makes something like this because I would happily shell out the cost of an iPad mini and pro iPhone combined to get it, which is basically the form factor and the price point that this is at.

    • @ccarazay
      @ccarazay 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I don’t think Apple will ever make a folding phone. Just like they never made touchscreen Mac’s. It’s just got too many compromises for Apple’s brand, which is about consistency and reliability (obviously they’ve had major fuckups in the past, but they usually fix them quietly in successive models, such as the iPhone 6S being thicker after bendgate and the complete removal of the butterfly keyboard).

    • @wilmotown
      @wilmotown 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sigiligusYou’re right about their posture, although I think the normal sized iPhone that folds out into the closest thing possible to their iPad vision of an invisible sheet of glass might be interesting to them. The fact that they don’t seem to IP rate any of the iPads or allow you to use CarPlay with them suggests they are only interested in their use as a second device to be used while stationary and indoors where it competes with your laptop, desktop or Apple TV (given that most of what people do on the iPad is consume content and browse the web), so as usual the iPad is stuck in this awkward middle place between iOS and macOS. As a user of the iPad mini, I think Apple could make a great folding phone, but I know most iPad users see the platform trending more toward MacOS than iOS.

    I'm still very curious about whether or not Google has added any new multi-tasking features to this year's Fold. The last one could only run 2 apps side by side. The One Plus Open uses OpenCanvas which lets you quickly swap between multiple full screen apps and the Galaxy Fold (Which handles multi-tasking my favorite way of the bunch) allows you to go all the way up to 3 apps split screen for multi-tasking and floating windows on top of it. I believe the best use case for a foldable phone is for mult-tasking, not to just have a giant phone.

    I feel like I'm the only one who actually thinks the name Pixel 9 Pro Fold makes much MORE sense... This is the "9" lineup of Pixels, the phone has all the "Pro" features and it "Folds". What's not to understand? I think reviewers are too fixated on the fact that this is only the second incarnation of a foldable Pixel, but regular people simply don't care. They care about the "generation" and "form factor" only. Fold 2 would have been confusing to them.

    • @Bagley2014
      @Bagley2014 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the reviewers fail to appreciate how nice it is that Google standardized the naming of the Fold. Years from now, "9 Pro Fold" is going to tell everyone with even the bare minimum familiarity with the Pixel line exactly where this phone stands in comparison to other pixels. Just calling it the Pixel Fold 2 would only help you compare it to other Pixel Folds.

    Personally, I think the new phone is too thin when unfolded. Instead of advertising it as "the thinnest foldable" they should have made it a useful thickness instead, and then they could have also not dropped down the size of the battery to as well. I don't understand this obsession of phone companies to make thinner and thinner phones. They are really getting hard to hold properly and feel good in your hand.
