    • @this_is_patrick
      @this_is_patrick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      They still need to design a new motherboard and retool factories to manufacture the new product. If many types of sockets are in the market and new ones are coming relatively frequently, it could be tedious and expensive for manufacturers to keep up.

    • @hubertnnn
      @hubertnnn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really, people are simply buying a cheaper motherboard more often rather than a more expensive one less often.
      Motherboard producers have a much lower margin from those cheap ones.
      So its not worht for them to swap sockets so often.

    • @highkicker11
      @highkicker11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      its real simple Intel and AMD sell chips to the motherboard producers if you don't buy a Intel or AMD board you will always en for ever pay both the manufacture of the motherboard and Intell or AMD for their perspective chip-sets on those motherboards. you buy a new intel or amd cpu then you buy a matching motherboard that has the intel or amd chips on it so they win win win.

    • @GrimYak
      @GrimYak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exact opposite dude. They would earn more money by keeping the same socket and Mobo design as they dont have to do R and D as well as produce a new process for it. This is why Apple for instance uses its designs for 3 or more iterations before they change them as it is costly to start over.

      Well, when they don't change much about their architecture it's normal to stay on the same socket.
      Same with intel. Intel's been on the 1151 socket since 2014, because since 2015 and skylake they haven't touched their architecture. And realistically there is no reason for Sandy, Haswell and Ivy bridge NOT to be on the same socket, but oh well intel is intel.
      And let's not start laying it down on chipsets.

    Socket 775 lasted for at least 5 years (even though the chipsets changed): Pentium 4/Celeron, Pentium D, Core2Duo (plus a refresh), Core2Quad (plus a refresh). Socket 775 was used on boards that supported DDR1- DDR3, Pentium 4 to Core2Quad different chipsets and architectures . The socket was mechanically compatible, but you couldn't run a Core 2 Quad on a first gen LGA 775 boards due to incompatible chipsets.
